Nana loves to tell stories. She has visited lands far and wide, seen things people would not believe. In her place by the fire she tells these stories, hoping to give one last fright or cry of wonder before the night's end. But there is one story closer to her than any other, a story that she relives each time she tells it. Come now and listen to the tale of The Rugin, and remember that in every lie, there is a grain of truth.
The Rugin is a short little fantasy story with some dark elements in it. Brian Quirke painted a good picture of a broken girl in an unforgiving world. There are some small things I would have liked better, such as more extensive fight scenes. But, as a first book, this is a good example. I would recommend it as a short read.
