SAFE HAVEN: REALM OF THE RAIDERS

A virus has swept across the planet turning people into flesh-craving zombies. The UK and Ireland were the last to fall, but now the virus has won. Cities are infested with the undead. To stay is to die.

Having fled Leeds, Mike Fletcher and his family thought they had found a safe haven in the island village of Candleton. But their peace was fleeting and others want what they have. Now they find themselves in a fresh fight for their lives; battling armies of vicious raiders and fast, relentless zombies.

Horror and tyranny reign in this new world and a war is looming on the horizon that only the bravest will choose to fight. The time has come to take a stand. The time has come to find a new kind of hero.

I was born and raised in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Wanting to escape life in a big city and concentrate more on working to live than living to work, I moved to the Outer Hebrides in the north-west of Scotland in 2004 and I have lived there ever since with my wife and dogs.

I write post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, dystopian and horror fiction. I’ve released fifty one books across six different series - Safe Haven, The End of Everything, Unsafe, Relentless, The Burning Tree and Scares in Scotland.

In addition, most of my titles are now available as audiobooks narrated by Kim Bretton, so if you’re one of the many people who struggle to find the time to read, you can listen on the go.

Brilliant.

A brilliant second book in the Safe Haven zombie series. The main character, Mike, is one of a kind and he makes the book. The other characters are good and likeable or not depending on the part they play I’m sure the good ones will grow on me as the series moves on. The books so far are absolutely full of fighting the zombies or other groups and they are exciting, on the edge-of-your-seat page-turners right to the last page and the books do go to the 100% not 80% or 90%, they are great value for money and well worth reading.

HAVE YOUR TISSUES HANDY, EVEN FOR THE MALE READERS, AS THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN FAMILY IS INVOLVED.

Another super great book by Christopher Artinian as Safe Haven: Realm of the Raiders is everything I expected it to be and so much more. Number #3 please, Mr. Artinian as soon as possible, as this one was "Rockin'". I loved this book and I truly believe #3 will be an even better ride. Mike, Emma,Sammy & Jake have literally been through hell, but it's not over, not by a long shot. As they do their best to get to their loving Gran, others stand in their way, some become friends and family to them, but then they're the others, that don't care and only want to take and kill and the Raiders are just one part of that group, as some they thought were friends fall into the same category. Have your tissue handy as there will definitely be tears, even for the male readers here, as that's what happens when family is involved. But by the end of the "Epilogue", I really believe you will you'll want Book #3, to be able to read as quickly as me.

The adventure continues as we follow Mike & his extended family in their quest to reach their Gran's place in Scotland. Along the way, we have villains, love, loads of emotion and, of course, ZOMBIES!

Mr. Artinian is a great writer and he really keeps the action going with this one. Loads of great characters, tons of gore and zombie killings. There is a lot of emotion in this book as well.....family comes first, no matter what. You just don't leave anybody behind that you consider family!

I hope that Mr. Artinian hurries up and writes the next book! An awesome read for all the zombie lovers!

First, Christopher and Kim are an amazing team. No I’m not talking about characters but the author and narrator
Second, wow just wow! So much action. Half we have a tiny bit of hapoy in this book, but so much sad as well.
Third, I like how the worlds from The end of Everything and this series will be kind of crossing a bit, even if it’s just from the villains.
This guy Fry needs to die ASAP. He’s like a damn cockroach!

Safe Haven -Realm of the Raiders (Book 2 of the Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Horror Series) by Christopher Artinian and narrated by Kim Bretton is a fast-paced, on the edge of your seat, wild ride through the apocalypse! Would recommend this series if you enjoy fast-paced zombie action with a great story behind it.

This is yet another series by Christopher I can envision happening...it’s easy to listen to and get sucked in (you’d be best to clear your schedule before you begin listening to both of his Safe Haven series if you know what’s good for you).

What’s it about? Mike and his entourage are settling into their new location, but it’s not long before it’s under attack and things get complicated. You get zombies (descriptions are excellent), action, blood and gore, betrayal, love, family, bad guys, losses and gains, weapons, character growth, killer rats, and more. The minor characters add to the story all in a good way, especially Humphrey (the dog). Nice to see characters from The End of Everything make an appearance. My only gripe (it’s hard to even write this) is I’d like to see the children get on board- they’ve been through a lot in a small amount of time, time for them to get on the zombie killing board or…

The narrator, Kim Bretton, did a marvelous job. She brings the characters to life and is easy to listen to.

Overall, I highly recommend, especially if you are a zombie fan. You can’t go wrong with either of his Safe Haven series.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: this is a dark zompoc book- swearing, suicide of a woman and her daughter, guy treats dead body violently, mention of a suicide pact, violence, weapons, women are forced into sex work, death, Afghanistan mention, and probably more things I’m forgetting (it’s easy to get into the book and forget to write info down).

*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!

Another really good offer in my much-loved zombie genre! Not really a 4-star book per se but I don't feel like it's fair to keep giving books that are this enjoyable 3 1/2 stars each time (having said that, I also need to re-rate 'Girl With All the Gifts' from 4 1/2 up to 5 stars).

**MILD SPOILERS**
Artinian has put together another emotional and extremely tense book in his 'Safe Haven' series. By this time, if you've been reading along since part 1, you are DEEPLY invested in these people, so the kicks in the gut really count! Sure, there were parts that I wish he had slowed down a bit on (e.g. Joseph's final transformation and the reprecussions were far too rushed) but I also have to ad that the improvement in the overall writing style from the first tome is very noticeable!

Kudos as well for bringing in some truly unique 'tricks' into this book. Sure, there's some rusty old clichés that show up, especially when it comes to the 'Evil Empire' and their army (heh heh how much foresight did it take to name one of the bad guys 'Don'?). But how Mike & co. repel the initial attack on the village is as gruesome as it is original! Lots of these books say 'we have to do whatever it takes to survive' but few include examples of just how to achieve that. And the rat 'invasion' truly gave me the creeps. Now if we can only explain how the dog didn't manage to turn anyone with a misplaced nip?

For lovers of this genre, there's a lot to love in this book and - again - my biggest compliment-to-share is that I can't wait to keep on going (great cliffhanger at the end!). Yeah, you could argue there are some soppy bits and that sometimes the odds seem to be just a little too overwhelming to justify all these oh-so-close-escapes, but so far the adventure is a lot of fun! See you lads and lassies in the Highlands next time!

Disturbingly familiar. ** NO SPOILERS **

After Mike’s miraculous escape and evasion tactics he made safely to the fictional village of Candleton somewhere in North Yorkshire. Enjoying his reunion with Lucy whilst Joseph’s infection spreads, it won’t be long before the village has a RAM of its own.

Unfortunately for them that’s just the start of their problems.

In a crisis there are always a few types of people that make themselves known; Mike - capable leader, viewed as a hero (despite his opinion of himself), Lucy & Emma - solid reliable people capable of leading if they have to, The Sheep - will follow orders but sometimes freeze in fear, The Bullies and Cowards - who do whatever it takes to keep themselves safe and finally The Monsters/ Antiheroes - the psychopaths and sociopaths who don’t need an explanation. This series like so many others has its monsters and in every single instance it’s always the living who are capable of bringing the horror.

Highly recommend this series, it flows well, the characters are believable and realistic some in an endearing way, some in brutal honesty (Lucy) as well as those who are stuff of nightmares. The locations used in the books are delightfully fictional where it matters but still have that ring of truth that makes them work. After all nobody wants to read a book of this genre with their actual home in it.

I really wanted to like this series. The first book was average but showed enough promise that I hoped the characters and world would grow over time. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get past this second installment.

The pacing is fast. It's action packed to the point that there’s barely any room to pause and get to know the characters beyond Mike. I struggled with the believability of a 20/21-year-old rugby lad somehow having a plan for everything, while seasoned Army veterans who had toured Afghanistan seemed to just follow along as if he were their superior.

On top of that, the constant perspective shifts pulled me out of the story. We’d suddenly jump into a random soldier’s head for a paragraph or two, only to never return to them again. These sections didn’t add much to the main plot and felt distracting.

In the end, the book just wasn’t for me. I prefer series where character development balances the action and where the story builds naturally without forced heroics. Sadly, I won’t be continuing with the series.

There's a couple of things that bothered me :

the tiny unrelated part in the beginning? Was that just to introduce the idea of a type of zombie rat/ feral killer rat?

Since the rest of the story barely mentions them, except towards the end and then only a small bit.

This time the story felt waaay more all over the place than the previous one, but I can't pinpoint why exactly.

Mike was same old crazy dude that I don't dislike but also not really like but his sister tried getting a bit more backbone in this one, which is good.

I like Lucy, although the pills that she takes are in a bottle that's supposed to fit into her pants without being very obvious but she somehow never seems to run out of them?

There were some other continuity issues and some weird sentences and such which altogether made this feel like it was rushed.

Because of that all, I'm not sure I'll read the next books in this series.

This is book two in the series and the action ramps right up from the get go. Mike, his family, other survivors and soldiers are doing well at their sanctuary until some people who hid the fact that they had been scratched, turn and create more rams. That's bad enough but then they're attacked by some waste of skin, sadistic and brutal survivors.
After repelling the attackers, plans are made to leave as they know another attack will happen. Bad decisions are made which fractures the feeling of security and togetherness between the citizens and the soldiers.
I don't want to say too much and ruin the story for you but be warned, there are some heartbreaking excruciating losses during the attack that will leave you stunned.
I highly recommend this book and the series to anyone who enjoys the horror genre with zombies, compelling characters and an action packed tale of terror.

Horror in the UK continues. Our intrepid band of survivors thought they had found refuge in a Bed & Breakfast Inn. We all know that won’t last long. Mike and Lucy are an item; it’s about time. As usual in these type of stories, it’s not the infected that cause the most problems, it’s the ne’er-do-wells that take advantage of the situation. It is the same for this tale as our survivors fight a pitched battle. For a nice change, our survivors are rather intelligent and inventive. The characters are wonderful. There are many RL situations and discussions. My favorite is still Lucy, she brings passion and calm to the chaos. After a bit of unexpected betrayal, the focus of the story abruptly changes. Once again, we go from survival to rescue mode. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Realm of the Raiders, the second book in the Safe Haven series, is cleverly written, entertaining, and gripping. It met my highest expectations. I knew it would be fantastic within the first few minutes, and I wasn't wrong. It's a fast-paste zombie (rams) apocalypse action-adventure with loads of intensity and excitement. The characters are authentic and interesting, especially Mike; he is absolutely awesome. The storyline and dialogue are a smooth flow; while capturing and holding the attention of the readers/listeners from the very start to the end.

A stellar performance by Kim Bretton's; she adds personality and heart to the Artinian's words, breathing life into the characters and story. Bretton and Artinian make a fantastic author/narrator team. I'm definitely looking forward to more of the two.

Chris does it again!!!

Boy, what a ride!! Non stop fast paced, bloody Gore and a great plot to boot. Not just bloody for the sake of having zombies, this story has a destination and is meaty all the way to the bone! The character Mike, reminds me of Flex Sheridan in Eric A. Sherman's 'Dead Hunger' series, but with a dark shadow he's burdened with carrying around all on His own and won't let go of. Brilliantly written and just plain FASCINATING to behold, you must read the 2 books so far in this series!!!! And please do the author a favor of leaving a review, however short, long, good, bad or indifferent. That is how Indie authors get their name out there and also learn what needs worked on or what kept you thrilled to the end.

Brilliant

Having finished the first book yesterday i couldn't wait to get into this one. Someone else has said on the reviews to make sure you don't have any jobs to do because this book sucks you in. They were dead right.

Far more action than the first, this book picks up nicely from the last and introduces more characters and villains. Things aren't ashtrays as they seem and Christopher Artinian is brilliant at weaving twists into his books.

If i could only offer one criticism it is that everyone in Mike's family seems to be the perfect human who can't do anything wrong. However this is only a minor issue of a very well written book.

I cannot wait to read the third and I'm about to download it now!

If you like decent zombie books this series is a must!

Book 2 is a fast paced story and non stop action ride. I have truly enjoy this story and the series so far. I love the characters and seeing how they get out of the jams they get into. The author really brings the characters and story to life. Beware if someone keeps asking you to do the same thing over and over, it is not going to end well. This is the first time I rooted for the rams. Karma is good. I liked the minor characters that have been added in this story and can’t wait to read and listen to the next book in the series. I highly recommend this author you can not go wrong either listening or reading any of his work.

Mike continues to try to get his family, new and birth, to Gran's.. As in anyone's life it isn't easy but not even the RAMS will deter him. Oh and heaven help the humans who try to harm his loved ones. This wonderfully written story reminds us that we never really know what we are capable of until pushed too far. I loved the little glimmer of crossover of the End of Everything world as well. Also as should he expected in the z9mbie/RAMS world never get too comfortable....trouble is probably around the next corner. I received a free audiobook copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

The second book in this series has more action and more twists than the first one. Mike and his family had decided to settle in Candleton, when raiders decided to overrun the settlement. Because of this, Mike and his family have to fight on two fronts: the zombies and the raiders, in order to protect themselves. What a fantastic tale. I'm ready to move on to the next book in the series. I recommend this series to others who enjoy a good story. Kim Bretton's narration is awesome and her style adds to the book's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

I found this second book even better than the first. I think this was because it could jump straight into the action and built on the established relationships and personalities grounded in the first book. I'm really enjoying the whole black and white versus the shades of grey on moral decision making and on the interesting dynamic (that is sure to unfold further) regarding those who embrace the black for black reasons. There are several very confronting, hard to forget and edge of seat moments in this book.

This was an excellent read by Christopher Artinian! Some bad things happened and good things happened. But some of the things I wanted to happen didn't and now I'm sure I know what the third book will be about and hope that it will happen then. Lol.... have I intrigued you enough to read this book yet.... I hope so, Mike is such a good character along with his sister Emma and the least of the gang. It is definitely worth five stars!

Another page turner

This book was second in a series and if you haven't read book one I highly recommend it. Once again great character development! One thing I forgot to mention in my review of the first book is the zombies are different than any other book I have read before. No shuffling for these monsters! Nope! You better run because these suckers are fast! It makes it so much more exciting! I can't wait for the next book.

If book 1 wasn't enough horror and great story telling, this follow up book in the 'Safe Haven' series will have you looking for weapons at home suitable for handling the undead. I enjoy these books and recommend them to anyone interested in the zompoc genre!!
Great job to Christopher Artinian for another wonderful read. I'm certainly going to continue this series till the bloody end!! Thanks also to Tina for keeping Chris at his keyboard! Cheers!!

Action, love, family, bad guys, nerds, oh and Zombies!!!

Just like the first book in this wonderfully crafted series, you are sucked in and wonder what it would be like to be in Mike's family. To know that kind of steadfast, fierce, love and loyalty that is no engrained that you never have to question it!!! The characters, imagery, everything is beautifully written!!! Even the zombies!!!

Realm of the Raiders (Safe Haven, #2)
by Christopher Artinian
The rescue of the family only just started, the violence, and struggle has come again to the little place of peace they found. Raiders, have come, their violence and destruction will leave carnage behind them. The struggle of getting people to safety is the only thing on their mind. What they did not know is that their trust will be tested. What they could loose could be everything.

In this volume, the characters still battle the zombies, but other survivors become even scarier because of being organised into huge armies. Accordingly, there are lots of somewhat unconventional military battles in pretty primitive circumstances. I wish that Mike, the main character, was older to lend more realism to the story, but I'll just have to be annoyed by that for the remainder of the series. Big battles have been set up for the third volume as well, so that's my next read.

Action and lots of zombies... sorry RAMS!

Excellent Zombie apocolypse novel with enjoyable characters. Some you loathe, some you love but all mashing together to show a horrific new world. Fast paced Artinian has matched his first book with the excitement and drive of his protagonist. Roll on book 3!

Wonderful

Book two is just as exciting as book one. Just when Mike and his family think they've found a safe place evil men come calling. So they're back in the road again fighting the RAM's and humans who find the Apocolypse a bit too much to their liking. I can't wait for book three.

Even better than the first

This second book in the series is even better than the first one was. I was super happy by the end of the book and then.......

Spoiler:

The epilogue sucks!!!!
It totally sucks all the happy out of the book 😞 I don't see myself reading the next in the series, I want to keep imaging them all living out a great future forever
