The author of the Pretty Little Liars book series that inspired the show on Freeform brings you the second story in a three-story trilogy about the origins of Ali and Emily as a couple. Imagine if what you read in the books isn't totally true. Picture if, after Ali was taken away to The Radley, she finally found her chance to return and be with Emily forever. Emily and Ali daringly escape from everything and everyone they know and plan their future...but will it be that easy? Can love really conquer all?
Sara Shepard graduated from NYU and has an MFA from Brooklyn College. She has lived in New York City, Brooklyn, Tucson, Arizona, Philadelphia, and now lives in Pittsburgh, PA. Sara's Pretty Little Liars novels were inspired by her upbringing in Philadelphia's Main Line.
Update: I've gotten a few questions about this book and the 1st one. Amazon had a program called Kindle Works that were mainly short stories by the authors. However, it got canceled so if you search for these two books they aren't available anywhere. However, I may be willing to email you a copy that I had to manually copy and paste if you send me a request if I can find the copies.
Pretty Little Lost PLOT: In Part 2 of this story, the real Ally wants to get back at the Pretty Little Liars for making her life hell and having gone to the Radley so she invites them to her family's vacation home and sets it on fire. Only she doesn't want to kill them just give them a scare. So she provides them with an escape route. She finds Emily and comes clean to her love about the history of her and Courtney (leaving out the more juicy bits of the tale aka her hand in killing her twin). She propositions Emily to run away with her and after some thought, Emily agrees to this. They run away to a house that's deserted of an old flame of Ally's while she was staying at the Radley. Ally makes plans to start over with a new life with Emily as her wife. But everything comes crashing down for the two when the police come knocking.
MY THOUGHTS: Now maybe I'm missing something BUT in a twisted Di Larentis thinking way I can understand Ally wanting to off Courtney. But why the Liars? They didn't have anything to do with Ally getting locked up at the Radley. NOTHING! They didn't even know about the twin switch. And it's not like they were Courtney's accomplishes in keeping Ally there or getting her put there in the first place. But then Ally's a Di-Larentis and I won't wrack my brain too hard to figure out what sense it made to trap them in a house not wanting to kill them but scare them. With the girl she loved no less. Would you *really* risk having the person you love having to go to the hospital because they were injured or inhaled too much smoke? What if they couldn't find the exit? I did like the idea and setting of Emily and Ally living in this deserted house symbolizing that they didn't really need anything but the bare minimums and each other to survive. And I did like the proposal a lot better than I did on the show. I just wondered how Emily would have taken it if Ally would have confessed and would it have changed anything. But there was intrigue in this. There was the question of how long Ally will be on the run. Does she get caught? Do she and Emily get their new life together? Do the other girl's find out it's not Courtney. So I'm just waiting for Part 3.
RATING: 6 This one was interesting. I enjoyed it more than Part 1.
Frankly speaking I'm having a hard time separating the book from the series. Maybe I'm still having withdrawals from the finale. :((
The second book concentrates on Ali and Emily only but it ended on a cliffhanger. I wish it was longer. I hope the final book will be longer, I know the author said that the final will sort of "connected" with the HEA of the finale of the series. So, I'm really looking forward to read it.
Let's hurry up with the third part of Emison saga. Also, why you're at it, can you please just write an entire book on this?.
Thanks, Ash
Pretty Little Liars: Pretty Little Lost is the second part of the reimagined version of Shepard's Pretty Little Liars series except the relationship between Alison DiLaurentis and Emily Fields is endgame. It's pretty much the best thing ever.
Pretty Little Lost takes place shortly during and after the fire in the cabin that Real Ali sets. In the books, her motivation is to kill the Liars, Emily included, after returning from The Preserve. This is when she reveals that she isn't her sister Courtney but Real Ali. It's pretty freaking amazing in books.
However, in this version, while Ali does set the fire, her intention isn't to kill the Liars, she even provides them with a way out, it's to run away and start a new life with Emily. Finding Emily in the aftermath of the fire, Ali tells her the truth about the switch and asks her to run away with her.
Ali wants a future with Emily and vice versa but Alison has a lot of secrets, mainly manipulation and murder. As she and Emily grow closer and fall deeper in love, will their relationship be able to survive all of her lies?
Oh, Sara Shepard, you are still with the teasing! Despite that, I enjoyed Pretty Little Lost. These kindle worlds novellas are insanely quick reads. Therefore, there is any filler and the focus is purely on Alison, Emily, or both. It makes for a tighter and more personal story.
Shepard has done a fine job with making Alison a likable, tragic, and sane character. As fans of the book series know, Real Ali was crazier than a box of Cracker Jack's. Homegirl was done. The lights were on and someone insane was there.
However, this Alison is vulnerable and sad. She also found the love of her life with Emily and did many reprehensible things in and out of The Preserve to keep her sanity. While Emily, who has been in love with Alison since seventh grade, finally got her, lost her, and didn't even know she did. She had to experience Courtney playing with her feelings and then teasing her about it.
The real question would be will Emily still love Alison despite every heinous thing she has done? It's an answer that, hopefully, will get answer completely in the next and last installment.
I really liked it but I feel like I'd love it if Emily had been playing with Ali, making her think she wanted to be with her when really she was just buying time till the police came. Because Ali is a bad person and I know Emily wouldn't be with someone like Ali, as was proven in the books. But other wise good story, I hope the third one comes soon :)
I enjoyed the second book and can't wait for the third installment. The grammar in the book isn't perfect, but I know she kind of self published these and an editor probably didn't go through the book. Regardless it is still a good read and left me wanting more! And this is coming from someone who wasn't an emison fan on the actual show.
This one was a little harder to wrap my head around as parts seemed far fetched; the Emily and Ali from the book series would never had been together. However, I still plan on reading the third installment as I'll read pretty much anything that Sara Shepard writes!
The ending was the sweetest. I love how Sara connects these with the original books, giving more insight on Ali, but with the perfect twist: Emison. This fanfic was truly awesome and there's nothing left to say but "I can't wait for the last chapter". Damn, now I'm wondering where Sara will start off next: The cruise? Prom? Ali in jail?
I don't know how to compare this to the other one. I guess the same things I mentioned in my other review. I was way more interested in the Ali parts and the parts that tied back into the main PLL canon. I also had more issues with this one. This was a much bigger diversion from the series than the other one. There were some non-explicit sexy scenes and swearing that were not present in the other books. Those were what for sure cemented a lower rating.
