A collection of Classical Greek poetry from the inventor of the bucolic idyll, one of the foremost Ancient Greek lyrical poets, Theocritus. Together with the Roman Virgil, who followed in his footsteps with his Eclogues, these two poets became precursors to the entire pastoral lyrical tradition in many European literatures. An interesting variety of idylls, with commentary preceding each one, and with a general introduction. Well worth the effort.
