ShadowShifters - Shapeshifting wolf creatures that love as fiercely as they fight.

Aidan Bloodlocke never dreamed he was a wolf Shifter, much less an Alpha. When a pack takes him in, his entire world changes, and loyalties are developed. Then disaster strikes, and he’s on a ruthless mission for justice.

When veterinarian Maddie Ardelle moved to Bridgepoint, Maine, to start a normal, peaceful life on her own, she didn’t expect to get herself caught in the crossfire of two factions of violent, feuding werewolves. And definitely not entangled with a sexy biker shifter that made her weak in the knees. Against their will, Maddie and Aidan’s worlds collide, and with an attraction so enthralling, both are helpless to resist.

As Aidan struggles to fight for both love and duty, he uncovers a betrayal so heinous, it puts the lives of his entire pack and the brave woman he desires at unthinkable risk. The stakes are high, and both must decide if Maddie ultimately can live in his violent world of teeth and claw in this action-packed paranormal romance series!

A Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy author, Kharma Kelley has been enamored with all things that go "bump in the night" for who knows how long. She truly believes that finding humanity and beauty in some of the most seemingly unconventional places is part of the romantic psyche to her. A big fan of the Big Easy, Kharma tends to weave her proud Cajun heritage and values into her books. She enjoys reading other urban fantasy and romance novels and playing Minecraft in her spare time.

"Tall, Dark & Deadly" is the first book of her "Agents of The Bureau" series. Expect more sexy, dangerous and even hilarious installments to be released along with a new "ShadowShifter" series coming in 2017.

She frequents Wattpad (which she refers to as a story "incubator") often and beta tests her new story ideas there as well as provide guidance and critiques to aspiring authors.

Her works are often compared to Laurell K. Hamilton, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole and the late great author, L.A. Banks.

Quote from Kharma Kelley on writing Paranormal Romance:

"There's something intriguing about strong women finding love in all the "wrong" places in the world of fantasy. Of angels, demons, ghosts, werewolves and your occasional blood sucker, all these paranormal metaphors are catalysts of what humans are and crave most...that we're all different, beautiful and a little bit weird--and just want someone to love us for who we are."

She lives in Texas with her husband.

Enthralling and addictive….

This paranormal shifter romance is a thrilling story of family loyalty, betrayal and deadly retribution…a battle has been waging between two separate factions in the shifter world for millennia and a showdown is coming …..this is a fabulously detailed and carefully constructed imagined world, with it’s own language, history, fable and law…at some points the helpful glossary at the start of the book was a useful and essential addition…

The characters are wonderfully described Maddie a smart, funny and unsuspecting heroine and Aidan the enigmatic Alpha of one of the warring factions who is on his own personal mission of revenge…their relationship is believable and a captivating combination of humour, respect combined with a good measure of sexual chemistry (and tension) … the secondary members of the cast also have depth and complexity… the shadow shifter world is full of fascinating characters forces for both good and evil… and individuals such as Devin and Cameron are begging for their own stories to be told…

The story is told from multiple points of view and whilst this provided insight into the thoughts and feelings of all the main players it did at times make the flow of the narrative slightly disjointed and affected the pace of the story….that said the action comes fast and furious particularly in the second half of the book…

This is an enthralling and addictive paranormal read which captured my imagination from the very first chapter; this has to be the start of an epic series there is so much more that this storyline has to offer and I hope this is not the last I see of Aidan and Maddie it is too soon to say goodbye to them……I received a copy of this book as an ARC from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review...

Selenium Night is the first book in Kharma Kelley’s Shadow Shifters series. This is not my first time reading her work and based on my prior experience I went into this book with high expectations. She did not disappoint.

What the story is about.
In this new series, readers meet Adian Bloodlocke and Dr. Maddie Ardelle. Abandoned by his pack. Aidan, an Aristan shadowshifter grew up knowing nothing about his lineage. All that would change when the alpha of the Bloodlocke pack adopted him and raised as his own. Aidan’s new life taught him about family and unconditional love. In spite of this, there were members of the pack who despised him a situation which escalated when he became the pack’s alpha.

Then the unthinkable happened, his pack came under attack leaving death and mayhem in its wake. Now he is on a mission to hunt and capture the responsible party and ensure that pack justice is served. What he never counted on was that during his quest he would find love with the delectable Dr. Maddie Ardelle.

Dr. Maddie Ardelle moved to Brdgepoint Maine, to get the pieces of her life together. Her life lacked excitement. Therefore, the last thing she expected was to get caught in the middle of the ShadowShifter's feud. When the hot and sexy alpha came to her aid, she found herself caught in a world of passion, violence, and a lot of shifters.

The Story
Selenium Night is one of those books which holds you captive from the first page and you eagerly turn the pages because you have to know how the event will unfold.

I loved the world that the author introduced me to in this story. There are two species of ShadowShifters, Aristans created by Arista one of the moon sisters and the Thesians, created in retaliation by her twin sister Thesia. Since this time, both species have been sworn enemies.
ShadowShifters are human souls that were fused with the soul of a wolf. In their natural state they are humans, however they have the power to change in various forms of a wolf. They lived in plain sight of humans, but the humans had no idea they were living among supernatural beings. ShadowShifters are born not made.

The romance was refreshing and well done. It was slow burn, which is not typical for these kinds of stories. This is not shifter story where the hero recognises his mate immediately and lay his claim to her. The hero was drawn to the heroine but had a hard time reconciling his feelings as it was forbidden for his kind to mate with humans. They got to know each other and allowing their love to develop at a natural pace. She tugged at his heartstrings and he had this uncontrollable need to protect her, which proved detrimental to his mission.

Suspense, action and humour were sprinkled throughout the pages of the book, making it a true page-turner.

The Characters

The Characters were well fleshed out. I was invested in them and could not help but root for them. Aidan is strong, determined and protective. His life growing up was hard, but that was until his circumstances changed. However, the pain of the past haunted him. Maddie had experienced her share of hurt and as such was not looking for a relationship. I could relate to her uncertainties regarding her developing feelings for Aidan. She was a likable heroine and it was clear Aidan was so enamoured with her. She is funny, selfless and brave.
They complemented each other. I enjoyed their initial contact, which provided me with some laugh out loud moments.

The secondary characters played an intricate role in making the story a page turner. My least favourite was Kieran, Adian’s adoptive brother. He is a true personification of evil. It was his actions that led to disaster that struck the Bloodlocke pack and he is the one Aidan is hunting.

The one thing I had an issue with is the author’s failure to delve deeper into the forbidden aspects of Aidan and Maddie’s relationship. They go their HEA, but it would have been good to know the effects in the future in light of the fact that Maddie cannot be a shifter.

Conclusion/Recommendation
The story delivered a heart-warming, emotional, suspenseful and action packed read. I do believe this is a great start to the series and I am eager to see what next the author has to offer. Fans of paranormal romance with strong sexy characters will enjoy Selenium Night.

This was very good and thorough. Being it's the authors first of s paranormal series it could've been just as good as a full standalone novel. I hate to know that their is more stories to some of the characters in this book coming up, because I do not like series. I didn't realize this was part of a series until I already put it on my to read list a long time ago. But I stay committed so I read it and enjoyed it. The story is full of romance, drama, action&treachery!

First time reading from the author.

Mention of Goddess or shifters or any other paranormal, count me in to wanting to read the story. I love how the author makes a world for her characters and pulls me right in. Sure there is some slow spots as we get to know some characters or their thoughts. But most of the time it has a steady pace of bouncing us to one character to the next. At times this was a little to much but it didn’t stop me from reading.

The Goddess sisters one good and one not so good have a fight, which leads us to the story that unfolds for us to read about.

Aidan’s, Maddie’s character is likable and want to know more about them. I do like some of the other characters in the story as well. Maddie was my top character, that I liked. She right off the bat stands up to a guy at the animal clinic. Maddie and Aidan have chemistry and heated up pages.

I don’t care much for Kieran and some of the others he hangs with.

I thought the story was good and will find me looking for more of their books.

Got ARC for an honest review.
Thank you for letting me read your story.

This story is about a shifter who is looking for revenge for the death of his foster mother and finds his mate. I really liked this story and the characters. It was well thought out and complex. The only thing I didn't like was that you read from everyone's POV. It made it a little frustrating sometimes which is why I only gave it 4 stars. But I can honestly say it wouldn't stop me from reading the next book if this continues in a series.

***I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***

This is the first book I've read from this particular author. The book has a moderate pace throughout the story and was well written. The story is slightly ponderous at times and you had to pay attention when you're reading it. Plan to read it when you know you're going to be distraction free. The story has humor, action, romance, and plenty of sass.

Aidan is an alpha wolf on a mission to kill his foster brother. His brother betrayed their pack to their rivals and then helped them to raid and kill numerous members of the pack. Maddie is a young human woman trying to make a fresh start on her own. When Aidan and Maddie meet things get complicated for the pair. Aidan must find a way to let Maddie in and Maddie needs to learn to accept help sometimes. Aidan also has to watch over and keep Maddie safe whilst he continues his mission. There is tension, anger, and the impending threat of large scale violence if not out an out war.

Aside for the main story there are other interesting characters that add to the story. Aidan and Maddie's journey to their HEA is littered with obstacles. Will things explode into a war? What does the future hold for Adrian's pack? Read the book and find out for yourself.

This was a well rounded paranormal read
The perfect combination I look for when reading-
-Great characters, strong story line, action, suspense, angst, humor - romance - A well rounded paranormal read that will definitely keep you engaged
-Maddie has her big girl panties on but still can accept assistance with grace and humor- I really liked Maddie she has had a rough past but has gotten back up and is taking control of her life - She has a propensity to use her snarky attitude as a shield when things get a little close to the emotional side for her -
-Aidan is the packs Alpha yet he still seems to have to prove, not only to himself but to the elders, that he has control of his wolf and he can lead the pack without letting his emotions control his choices - not always an easy decision for anyone but for a werewolf who has the background Aidan does - it is twice as hard -
-Our antagonist and we have a few - Some are plain as day and their evil rivals the worst of the lot - others you never see coming those -I think were the most dangerous
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.

What a different take on sifters. Instead of them living among us in secret, in this book the ones that live in a pack are in a commune type setting unless they have been banished, then they live in small towns that do not feel "right". This is really a story of family, love, betrayal, and fighting for your loved ones. In this wildly imagined world, complete with 2 opposing shifter groups, it is a fight between groups all due to a spoiled man who did lost the fight to become Alpha so decides if he cannot be Alpha of his home clan, he'll destroy them as he tries to become "king"/alpha of a new group that do not have to follow all those rules handed down from the gods. It really is about how Maddie and Aidan meet and the trials they have to go through to be together as mates. Add in great secondary characters both good and bad, it was a great read I had to finish to see what happened due to all the crazy bad guys. Loved it! My honest review is that I found it to be well written and more real in terms of people being real people with flaws and all.

This book has everything I look for in a reading experience. I laughed, cried (more than once), was scared, hopeful and totally engaged. The story in so full of feeling and the characters are distinct and believable. Aiden, a ShadowShifter, is the perfect love interest and Maddie, a human, is so sweet and compassionate. Kinda cool she's a vet. I loved Leigh and Cameron, oh and don't forget Devin. I really, really liked Devin. My heart broke for Aiden, with all the betrayal he's suffered throughout his life. Maddie still stands with him after she learns his secret. I busted out laughing when she stole the cop car. There was so much that was outstanding in this book that it is hard to say everything without spoilers. I thought this was a great story. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Selenium Night starts off immediately filled with action and doesn't stop until the very end. I was on the edge of my seat while I devoured this book filled with non stop suspense, action, and steamy romance. It's one of the more unique takes on shifters I've seen in quite sometime, which made it even more intriguing for me. This isn't your typical girl meets shifter and they're instantly mated. Aiden comes to Maddie's small town filled with a heartbreaking past and on a mission for Justice. The humans have no idea who is really living amongst them, and the laws of his people intend to keep it that way, except love has other plans. Maddie was so brave throughout it all and never turned her back on her love for Aiden no matter what was thrown at them. I could go on for hours about how riveting this story was, but I'll instead suggest you grab a copy and get lost in this amazing world!

Another intriguing read from Kharma. A hot shifter romance and vengeancee story. Not as steamy as Tall, Dark and Deadly. An intense Action / Adveture. Haunted Aidan sets off to find Kieran, killer of Aidan's foster mother, Kieran's blood mother. The rogue is determined to destroy his own pack, unite the rebels, and burn down whoever or whatever gets in his way. Aidan finds love and loyalty while pursuing the betrayal of his foster brother. He also manages to break a few rules himself, falling in love with a human veterinarian. Discovering true loves, friends and family and holding and standing together with them is the only shot alpha Aidan has to survive- so true for all of them. Together in trust, or falling in failure.

When Aidan’s pack is attacked, he wants revenge. When he finds out this his brother is responsible for the attack and the death of his mother, he sees red and sets off to find him and make him pay. While on his journey, he meets Maddie. She is everything he wants but he is not so sure that she can make it in his world. When the betrayal is brought to light, Aidan knows what he must do. Can Maddie forgive him and live within his pack? Aidan must have her so he believes she will see reason. Excellent writing with a storyline that really is unbelievable within the laws of a pack. Awesome characters to boot.

My first book by Miss Kelley, though hopefully not my last! I received an ARC copy for an honest review, and this was a thoroughly engaging, wonderfully detailed shifter book. Aidan and Maggie are rich and deeply written, with wonderful chemistry. Aidan has just lost his mother to murder and his pack has been betrayed by his own brother. Maddie has experienced loss and betrayal in her personal life, and struggles to trust anyone. Their story towards each other and to exact justice for Aidan's family and pack is rich and detailed. What a great story!

He's a psycho & is determined to destroy his own pack, unite the rebels, and burn down whoever or whatever gets in his way. Aidan accidentally finds love and loyalty while chasing his foster brother, by falling in love with a human veterinarian. I loved this story & recommend it 5 Thumbs up

An action-packed, edge of your seat shifter romance story you won't be able to put down! You will lose sleep and probably be late for work, but it will be so worth it!

This book has it all... romance, intrigue, drama, wonderful characters and so much more. If you like romance, and shifters, you cannot go wrong with this series, and we're just getting started!

Maddie and Aidan's story is amazing! I love how accepting Maddie was of the ShadowShifters. Maddie is the new veterinarian in a small town. She ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time, looking for some relaxation, when Aidan comes to her rescue, against his better judgment. And so their story begins. I hope there will be more in this series.

Having enjoyed another book by this author, I figured it would be good to start from book 1 for once and picked this one up. This book throws you right into a complex world of shifter factions, fated mates, war and betrayal from page 1. Prepare yourself!

Aidan is the adopted son of the “good” werewolves. They’ve tried to stay out of the way of human and enjoy nature. Guided by a council to aid in the transition, Aidan has been leading this pack without incident until a gruesome fight leaves them severely wounded, both mentally and physically. Aidan’s own mother was murdered, most of the home burned down, and the most likely suspect is his adopted brother. The council allows him leave to hunt him down and come back with him. Should be easy enough, right?

Maddie is a veterinarian in a town with a mostly deserted night life. One night, however, she decides to take a risk and go into a local bar. This bar, however, happens to be populated by the “bad” werewolves. The only thing that gets her out alive is Aidan, who just so happens to be in the right place while hunting his brother. His hunting plans soon take a backseat as these two lovebirds flirts and tease each other. Nothing in town is what it seems and things only get more twisted and complicated as time goes on. While we eventually get to a good place, you should be prepared for a bumpy ride.

Since I can easily call the Paranormal Romance/Shifter Romance genre as my favorite of all, I was captivated by Selenium Night as it gives us a different look at the shifter world, a different type of lore and one very good story to get caught up in.

It’s very easy to slip into this world where warring shifter packs also include family dynamics that muddy up the waters a bit. Most of what you’d need to know to make the decision to pick up Selenium Night is in the cover description blurb, the rest I can give you my impression of, hopefully without spoilers.

I liked Maddie so much. She’s strong with a tender side, logical without being so set in her reality to not think outside of the box. Aidan, well I fell a bit in love with him myself. He’s torn in some ways, determined in others. Strong but knows when and how to listen to others. Loyal, even when that bites him back emotionally. Together they make not only a great couple but an impressive team as well. There are many intriguing secondary characters in this world, many that I’d love to learn more about one day Watching Maddie attempting to make sense of this unknown world, and Aidan trying his best to keep her from danger all the while wanting to draw her in closer simply speaks to the emotional, and steamy pull these two have for each other. I had fun with this story, and frankly, was hoping for the next in the series to be around to dive right into – but it looks as though that will have to wait.

If you love Paranormal Romance, and a slightly different spin to Shifters than you may have read before, then I believe you’d enjoy Selenium Nights. I know I did and I’ll be on the lookout for what comes next.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Selenium Night is the second book that I’ve read from author Kharma Kelley. Although I do not generally read this specific genre, Kelley’s writing is entertaining and engaging. This is a book that you will want to read if you enjoy supernatural romance with an action-packed plot.

Aidan is a man with a secret...he can shift. When he meets the human Maddie, he knows that he needs to keep his distance. He is in town looking for a criminal from his pack and knows that it is against the rules to mingle with humans. However, Aidan cannot help the attraction and soon finds himself falling for the town veterinarian. Luckily, he is not alone in his feelings as Maddie finds the s*xy stranger to be a man that she cannot resist.

This book includes the mystery of where Aidan’s lost pack mate is, the action of confrontation when the rogue pack mate is found, and a sweet romance that grows against the odds. Selenium Night is a great book on its own, but even more so around this time of the year!

Another great book by K. Kelley. I think the author has made me a fan!

An Exciting Story To Kick Off This New Series.

I enjoyed Ms Kelley's slant on the werewolf myth in her ShadowShifters world. I loved our heroine, Maddie; she's a leading female character with all the traits that I crave - a good sense of humour, loyal, resilient, a beautiful sense of moral duty and oodles of gumption!

I must just mention that I do think this book is in need of a good proofreader/editor.

I love that there are no cliffhangers at the end of this book - the romance and threat aspects of the tale are happily concluded by the end but I will definitely look out for book 2 in this series as I am intrigued where Ms Kelley will take us next in her ShadowShifters world.

Aidan Bloodlocke, once a lone wolf, is now the alpha to his pack. When a betrayal takes place, he must go after the rogue wolf and exact revenge. Veterinarian Maddie Ardale recently settled in Bridgeport, Maine. As she settles to her new life, she finds herself in the middle of a feud between werewolves.
This book started out very good. My problem is that it seemed to shift POVs every few paragraphs to any particular character that was in that particular scene, not just the main characters. This got really annoying and made it really hard to focus on the the main plot and the two main characters. I’ve never read this author before, so I’m not sure if this is her normal style, but I’m not sure I’ll try her again.

I'm too old to stay up all night reading, but before I knew it the sun was coming up and it was time to start my day. I thought I would just read the first chapter to get a start on it for the next day, but nope. Once I started reading I lost all track of time until the alarm went off. This story grabbed a hold of me from the first page. The suspense, anger, fear, hope, passion and love jump off the page at you. My heart was pounding and I found myself holding my breath with anticipation. This story had everything! I highly recommend this, or any other book by Kharma Kelly. You won't be disappointed.

Selenium Night is the first book in the ShadowShifters series by Kharma Kelley, and is an entertaining paranormal read.

Interesting world building, action and danger, a bevy of different characters and a touch of humour, provide the substance of a strong and engaging tale. The story does have a tendency towards laborious at times, so make sure you are not distracted, as your full attention is required to ensure you don’t miss anything crucial.

With so much going on, Selenium Night basically sets the foundation for what’s to come, and ensures that readers will be watching anxiously for the next in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. This is my first book by this author. I really enjoy her style. And shifters have become a huge favorite because an author can let the imagination fly! Shifters are not hidden in this story. So this opens all kinds of issues when they deal with humans. But this story is more about greed and betrayal within a family and between Packs. Violent. Bloody. Messy. Who can be trusted. Will the hero and heroine be doomed? Or will they get to their HEA? The only way to know is to read this captivating story which is difficult to put down. Enjoy.

You have ShadowShifters that believe in their pack. Packs alpha dies and a new alpha needs to be named. Will it be the son or the adopted son? The Counsel rules until they are of age. The one son goes the wrong way and the other son becomes Alpha falls in love with a human which is against the law. Will the pack except her will they kill the Alpha and human? I really loved the love story and all the action that toke place. It was just the right mix. I would love to see a story on the beta and the alpha's sister. I received an arc for my honest review.

I received an ARC via NetGalley.

This is my first read from this author and I enjoyed her storytelling. It had a little different take on werewolf/shifter lore. It was pretty action-packed. I enjoyed learning about their pack and the members that I'm assuming will be part of future stories. Aiden was a pretty great leader without being super macho alpha and domineering. I really liked Maddie, but I feel like we didn't get as much backstory on her as we did with Aiden and the pack. Can't wait for the next book!

If you like shapeshifters, you need to add this to your TBR. Kelley's lore is unique and she does a fantastic job world building around the two types of shapeshifters in her world, Aristans and Thesians. We meet the main Aristan - Aidan Bloodlocke - right after a fierce battle in which he loses his mother. As he pursues justice, he winds up in a small Maine town where he runs into Maddie Ardelle, a veterinarian running from her own sordid past. The chemistry between these two is steamy and realistic and I would definitely read a sequel about these two.
