Collecting three stories featuring everyone's favorite droids! What adventures did the probe droids in The Phantom Menace get into when Darth Maul wasn't looking? Luke's got a mission for R2-D2! But can the astromech complete it in time? And all BB-8 wants is to help…two Resistance soldiers fall in love!
This was cute. I had actually read the first story since it was a back up feature I believe in the first issue of the Darth Maul miniseries. So i was a little mad that I paid 5 dollars for this and already read 1/3 of it, but I guess as a Star Wars collector I can't be too mad since I'd probably have paid for it anyway. But to my knowledge there's no new material in this so, if I'm correct in making that statement, you might want to do some research before you buy this to make sure you haven't already read the shorts included.
Edit: if they do this again, I hope they include a 000 and BT short. I would say K2SO but he already has a one shot coming out in August.
Three quick, bland stories about droids: a Sith probe droid makes a new droid friend; R2-D2 goes to prep Luke's X-wing and lots of other droids get in the way; BB-8 brings two people together for a date.
These aren't droids you're looking for. Few short stories about various SW droids sound like fun, but it actually was bit dry and disappointing. I'm not offended here, it's not utter crap, but it is something missing. And I'm not trying to discourage anybody - if you like SW droids, it's still worth a try.
It was ok. These had been published before, which was my first let down. I also found it hard to focus on what was going on, except for "SaBBotage" which is quite cute. But if Marvel wants to put out contents about Droids, I would be very interested in new material!
I don't tend to read the SW graphic novels, so all of 3 these stories were new to me. Utterly adorable, although like other reviewers have mentioned the visuals can get a bit confusing.
Awful. My first 'worst-in-class' Star Wars comic review.
1 out of 5 stars.
80% of this comic has no dialog whatsoever, it is literally just beeps and boops of droids putzing around.
On top of that, the art work is very poor. Hands down, the absolute worst I have seen in any comic I have read. It looks very much on par with Sunday Newspaper comic strip styles, with the likes of Haggard the Horrible which despite being low quality artwork, was a hell of a lot better than Droids Unplugged. At least Haggard was funny to ~10 year old me.
So this offers no lore, humor, romance, action, excitement, stimulating visuals, depth on anything... this is just terrible.
I was also highly deceived with this being flagged as a Maul comic. There is literally one (1) single image of his ship (The Scimitar) off in the sky throughout the entire empty vessel this so call 'comic' offers. Maul fans, do not be bamboozled like I was. There is no Maul here.
This book has cute stories that share a little more into the day to day life of the Star Wars droids. I really enjoyed them and some even brought a little smile to my face, but the stories were very short and limited, kind of like Sunday newspaper comics. They were great, but it is hard to fully recommend this book for the $4.99 price tag. I bought this book on sale on Amazon.com for 50% off, so I'm not really disappointed, but I can only recommend this book for full hard-core Star Wars droid fans like me. I don't think that the average reader will enjoy this one, especially for that price tag. I am not sure if I'd really love it either if I had to pay the full $4.99 for it...
I wanted to read this because of the BB-8 comic (SaBBotage) contained in Poe Dameron, Vol. 1: Black Squadron. That one was definitely the high point, as BB continues to be my favorite lil droid stinker. I like that there's are stories from each of the trilogies, but the BB-8 one is definitely the cutest and most fun. Still, overall a fun book and I'm glad I paid $5 on eBay to read it!
While I appreciate what the artist and writer was trying to do with this, I found the presentation and connection into the arc I’ve been on to be off-putting. The trade would have been fine not including this story, in my view.
Honestly, this felt like it could be part of Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, save for the last story that was actually kinda cute, but the other stories had almost no dialogue and felt kinda pointless. Also, what was with the Calvin and Hobbes-style artwork?
Overall kind of okay. It was short and sweet but that's about it. As a sw fan it lacked depth and story, and was quite boring don't see the need for a comic of it's own. It was just a cute three stories but they were dull.
At the back of some of the Star Wars comic series are little shorts featuring our favorite mechanical heroes. This issue collects the first several of them. I’m not sure I can accurately express just how adorable these are. If you love droids you should read this, even if you don’t read the comics. If you get excited when a mouse droid rolls across the screen or love listening to BB-8 and R2-D2 “talk” then you should read this. It is just so precious. Most of it is not verbal, they are droids after all, but it is much like the skill that was in the Groot series. A lot can be said without words.
You have droids making friends and droids struggling with distractions. Not all of the droids featured are stars either. There is romance. The art style is just sweet and definitely adds to the expressiveness of the droids. There are others so I hope that they continue to collect them like this. Honestly I would read a whole series of this. I don’t think that will happen but I definitely look forward to them.
