4 stars -English Ebook 🦋🦋🦋 Love and some action as a Amarican soldier who leads an investigation is on an Ilse while hit by an Earthquake and meets with a nurse on the team of Docters with out borders. They meet up again after 4 years but escapted prisioners trow trouble in the bowl of found love. 🌹🌹🌹
Meh. Good idea but definitely needs a better editor. The earthquake and all was interesting but I didn't like the execution of the story. Happy ending however I was hoping for more than what occurred within the story. Romance was okay. A solid 3 🌟

When an earthquake hit on the day David Sloane arrived, to prove two of the Army's men were innocent, he knew the job had to wait. But there was a good thing about the earthquake. It brought Sarah Kyle with Doctors Without Borders. He had not seen her in almost 4 years (he actually knew to the day how long it had been) but meeting up with her had to wait too. He wouldn't have time for anything after being put in charge of finding the convicts who had escaped during the earthquake.
I liked David a lot. He took over the sheriff's job without question, even with no experience. And he fixed the mess the sheriff left behind. I love the Black Dawn series. I especially liked how they arrived to help capture the escaped convicts in this book.
**Disclaimer: This title was previously released in the Cuffed & Claimed box set, however, it has now been rereleased and is newer extended version.**
David, an Army investigator, believes two fellow Army members are being framed by an island's government, and he refuses to let that happen. However, the same day he arrives, there's a obstacle in his way, as in an earthquake. David, being the man he is, immediately lends his support and strength anywhere it's needed. In the two days since, he's, thankfully, found survivors. On the downside, there are still escaped prisoners on the loose. As if he isn't exhausting himself enough, including trying to convince the island's Governor he can't be the new Chief of Police, his commander now has David traveling to meet and retrieve the incoming aid workers. That last part reunites David with his past in the form of the woman he's never forgotten.
Sarah, a former Army Captain and nurse, is now a part of Doctors Without Borders. When she arrives to begin her next assignment, she's shocked to see David. After introductions and instructions are made, Sarah doesn't hesitate to find out if she and David will be staying at the same place.
David can't believe Sarah is close again. He hasn't seen her in five years, okay, four years, five months, and sixteen days, not that he's counting. Their time together back then was unfortunately cut short when David received new orders four months earlier than planned. It was always David's intention to keep in contact, to have Sarah in his life even after he left, but for some reason, and without explanation, she refused. When he and Sarah get a moment to discuss the past now, it doesn't take him long to realize she was trying to protect her heart. David, even though he had no choice otherwise, left her, just as her husband, Matt, did when he died while serving. She didn't want to be left behind again, mourning what could've been. But both decide they want to try this time, to explore what they could be.
As David and Sarah continue their respective jobs while there, the clinic where Sarah is working, though thankfully not at that time, is overtaken by the very same escaped convicts David is hunting.
What happens when David and Sarah realize the attraction, the feelings, are still between them and just as strong as before? Will they take a chance to see if they can make it work despite their hectic schedules? Will the two wrongly accused men be released? Will those on the island begin the slow process of healing? Will David and Sarah get their HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people, separated before fully being able to explore what they could've had, are reunited.
On a purely personal note, I didn't like that it's implied Aiden, a member of Black Dawn, liked Carys, the leader of Doctors Without Borders. (This is based on the sentence "The man worked fast." coming from David regarding Aiden and his protectiveness over Carys.) I say this because we saw in book nine, Her Dominate SEAL, when secondary characters Aiden and Evie met, the hero and heroine in book ten, Her Relentless SEAL. We know in this series once these men meet the one that's it, and they've never felt the same about another woman. Yet here, there's a part insinuating Aiden feels that way about Carys. Yes, this title was published prior to those books, but I still don't care for it. Thankfully, in the epilogue when we're given Aiden's point-of-view, we're told he considers her a friend. That makes me feel better, though I do still wish the other wasn't implied at all, even if it was only a misinterpretation on David's part.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**
Her Steadfast Hero,Black Dawn Book One by Caitlyn O'leary 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This is a uniquely magnificent story.Caitlyn O'leary writing is nostalgia classic I enjoy reading her books. What a page turner I couldn't put the my reader down. The characters are well developed and written. It's a lively captivating story that Caitlyn O'leary created about David Sloan and Sarah Kyle. This is a exciting adventure of David Sloan who is a captain of MPO in the army. Sarah Kyle is a nurse with the agency Doctors without borders, they travel across the world giving medical help in natural disasters. It's a great story that's full of passion that's had me on the edge of my seat. This story is enthralling, interesting and entertaining all the way to the end. I'm so excited to read more books in this series. I volunteer to post this review, because r enjoy sharing my thoughts with other readers.
David is in the Army and sent to a small Spanish island to find out what happened to get two of the Army’s men sent to prison. Unfortunately this little town is swarming with unethical men. Luckily there are a few good men including the Lt. Governor. After an earthquake many of the prisoners take off. Doctors Without Borders are called in too help with the medical side. David’s surprised to see Sarah who he had started a relationship over four years ago arrive to help. I know he had to be thankful to see her again since he never forgot her. I enjoy stories which military, the men going after the bad guys, and civilians stepping up to help out which this book has. I encourage you to read it.
I absolutely loved this book. This is David Sloane and Sarah's story and oh my what a story. Sloane is a Army Investigator and a darn good one. Sarah is a Army nurse working with Doctors without Borders. They now each other from before. Sarah is the woman who got away. When they come face to face in Las Flores Sloane thinks maybe he might get a second chance. Only problem well earthquakes, escaped inmates, oh and proving he's men innocent should be simple enough. Right? Sarah is dumbstruck to say the least when she sees Sloane again. She keeps telling herself there's a reason it didn't work she just can't remember when he kisses her like that lol? Can these two find love amongst all the carnage? Can Sarah overcome her fears and let Sloane in? I absolutely love this series. I love the characters and how they interact. Check it out you will to.
I read this book back in 2018, and then listened to it as a reread in 2019 -and fell more in love with it the 2nd time!
~~
I genuinely loved David and Sarah's story - the glimpse back at their beginning, and just how much time has gone by to get their second chance at their hea. The instant re-connection and honest communication did it for me. David had such respect, care, and bossy protectiveness towards Sarah, and she was sweet, compassionate, and just what David needed in his life. Add in the drama of the natural disaster paired with bad guys galore, and toss in a swoony Navy Seal team as backup, and you have a perfect mix of adventure and love in a short story that doesn't feel rushed.
Loved it!
p.s. and if you listen to it, omgoodness do I love the narrator's deep voice and the way he brings the story to life!
David is Mr. Cool Under Pressure, and he's not going to let a natural disaster keep him from the one woman he hasn't forgotten. When he sees Sarah as part of the Doctors Without Borders program coming to help out after the island he's assigned to is hit with an earthquake, it's as though time stops and he has to make sure he doesn't lose her again.
The action is non-stop in this action romance. David has to organize a manhunt to track down escaped inmates, deal with corrupt law enforcement, and rescue hostages at the hospital, all with the help of the Black Dawn SEAL team and a few locals who are willing to fight alongside him. Sarah's not going to sit out all the action, either. She's a dedicated nurse and tries to help as many people as she can to live for another day. The story was instantly captivating and simply a joy to read.
This almost reads as an insta-love because neither Sarah nor David wanted to separate years earlier. Seeing each other again forces them to confront their feelings and work together to make sure they're never apart again. Their HEA was sweet and encompassed a couple other romances among secondary characters, too. It was also a terrific introduction to the men of Black Dawn, who have their stories told in other volumes in the author's world.
This was a short length, however, there is nothing short about the story. David, Army Military Police, was in Las Flores to get two of his men away from the corrupt police of the country. A serious earthquake changed his plans. Injured but moving, David found himself in the middle. The governor just didn't care what he said, David was now a highly placed government official. He began to help reorganize the people available from the prison where a bunch of serious bad guys had escaped. That he could do. Another unexpected development was the arrival of Sarah, the woman who'd left him but not his heart, now a part of DWB, Doctors Without Borders.
You'll share the devastation, the grueling hours, the blood and pain, as well as the feelings of loyalty, giving one's all, reminders there are always good people in the word, and of course love. A love lost, Sarah lost her military husband when they were both very young, a love rediscovered. Can she take another chance? Memorable characters both minor and major and emotions of all kinds. This is a winner, of course, it is. Caitlyn O'Leary wrote it! I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
David arrives on the Island of Los Flores intending to interrogate two soldiers who he believes have be set up. Unfortunately an earthquake quickly changes everything.
With the death of the Chief of Police, the Lieutenant Governor immediately takes advantage putting him in charge of the corrupt police department. He needs someone responsible to take control in order to expedite the clean-up and manhunt for some very vicious criminals.
I love my heroines strong and determined. Sarah certainly fills that description. Having left the Army and joined Doctors Without Borders, she can and does handle anything thrown at her.
As things get going with search and rescue and the manhunts tension rise. Especially with the doctor Sarah has already called out once for being drunk. She is escorting him back to quarters when the others in her group are taken hostage by some of the escaped convicts.
The Navy SEAL team Black Dawn is called in to liberate the hostages, and then gets permission to hang around and help with the round-up of criminals.
Fast paced and emotional, as this island works itself back to functional with the back story of Sarah and David coming to the forefront as their passion re-ignites.
The heroine is gutsy but has her vulnerable points as well. She was a recent widow and doesn’t really want to date or get back in with another military person when they knew each before. Now its been a few years, but when the hero got transferred, their relationship stopped due to distance. Then the heroine made some life changing decisions…
Our hero had come to this place to look at and field charges for other military persons who were arrested. However, you never expect an earthquake to happen and many of the people in charge either are criminal or have left their positions. He’s now tasked to getting law and order restored as well as making the community safe when our heroine shows up. He never wanted their relationship to end, but his position and orders made him leave. Now, he knows what he wants…
The plot is where our heroine and hero knew each other prior to this book but due to the hero’s position the relationship ended early. However, when they run into each other again, they immediately know they want the relationship back, but can they make it? Or will each of their jobs cause them to separate again?
This is the first from this series, I liked the characters and I wonder what the next book and the series will bring.
David is an MP who has been sent to find out what happened when 2 enlisted men are arrested and imprisoned on foreign soil. He never expected a major earthquake to hit and for the island to need his help in order to not only round up vicious prisoners that have escaped but to also help protect the people that have been sent in to help. Sarah is a nurse that has come in with doctor's without borders in order to help provide medical care to the people that have been hurt. She never expects to see David or for the old feelings to still be there. But at the end of the day, she knows that she has to take this chance to see if what they have can be something more.
I absolutely loved the introduction to this series! David and Sarah have so much sense of responsibility to others that sometimes they forget to take time for themselves. And I totally loved that about them! They have a beautiful chemistry and are just perfect for each other. The fact that they both would be willing to step aside and let the other go and do something that they dream of or just feel like they need to do is something that is beyond rare. Beautiful couple!
What an Awe Inspiring Novel, Author Caitlyn O'Leary has done it again! I was unable to put this one down, I felt pulled into the emotions ever present in this authors stories. Her gut wrenching writting of the unexpected heroism in a time and place where living and dying are hardcore. Her interpretations of Doctors Without Borders (DWB), our Navy Seals and Army Investigators, as well as our Servicemen in general are inspiring and truly heart felt! The interactions between her characters make this story oh so real, that you feel the edges of fear, loss, hurt, anger and especially love. Too many times people look the other way when natural disasters hit foreign lands. Not many realize the dangers that are involved when our Military or our Medical Professionals are taken to, trapped in and working in these out of the way places. This author brings home the destruction that happens as well as the added desecrations that can and do happen. I recommend this story to those looking for the good people do, adventure, and the ever elusive HEA. Well Done!🌺
Drugs, corruption and devastation in an earthquake-ravaged country are the foundation of this riveting story.
David Sloane is an Army MP sent to investigate charges against fellow soldiers holidaying in Las Flores. As an earthquake hits, and the damage is assessed, Doctors Without Borders are flown in to assist with the medical treatment of those in need.
Four years, five months and sixteen days, melted away as nurse Sarah Kyle emerged from the aircraft David met to escort the medical team that had just arrived from Nigeria. She had haunted his dreams for all that time, but seeing her again confirmed he would never erase her from his heart.
Tasked with capturing escaped prisoners and rescuing the injured in the process, David and Sarah are thrust into each other’s arms and confront not only the dangers of the tasks ahead, but the undeniable bond that has never died during their time of separation.
Edge of your seat reading with a healthy dose of unquenchable passion and some really sexy SEALs; yes Ms O'Leary has done it again!
David Sloan is a member of the Military Police Investigations who is sent to Las Flores to investigate the allegation against two US Service Personnel. Two days after his arrival a devastating earthquake nearly destroys the island and plunges the place into chaos. Besides other duties and tasks, the local Governor entrusts him with the organization of the rescue mission. Among the rescuers arriving in the country is the only women who ever touched his heart: Sarah Kyle. What happened and why did they separate? Do they have a chance to re-kindle the feelings for each other?
Not bad but faaaaaaar too short for my taste. I have to admit though that considering how short this story was, the characters were well carved out and the plot was OK but …. There just wasn’t enough space to elaborate the story and characters more or to “work towards” a special twist and turn. Yes, the main characters got their HEA but it was rushed – there just wasn’t enough space to build up a “crescendo”, which left me a bit disappointed.
This was an amazing beginning in this Black Dawn series with a NO is sent to check up on his men that were unfairly imprisoned by a corrupt head of the police. While he was there an earthquake occurred and the town was a !was as escaped convicts escaped and were all over the towm. A group of doctors and nurses with doctors without borders arrived to help. One of the nurses was David's long lost girlfriend Sarah. She had broken up with him without any explanation and he was deter!ones to mend there relationship. David also called for help from the Black Dawn SEAL team to help them round up these dangerous prisoners and look for missing people in the rubble. This was the beginning of this exciting love story as David and Sarah get their happily ever after and the town Las Flores is saved with all their help and is on the path to rebuilding again.
Honestly, the nicest thing I can say is that I hope this was the author's first attempt at writing and her subsequent books get better.
This was just really hard to read. There's no flow to the writing at all. Everything is very choppy, awkward, and unnatural. Additionally, the things that happen in this story are just weird and ridiculous. A foreign country makes a visiting US Army investigator one of their city's chief of police?
I read this book 2 years ago and just read it again. Folks, it's just as good the second time around. Caitlyn O'Leary has provided readers with a book that is well-written and packed with fabulous characters. David arrives in Las Flores to try and retrieve his soldiers from whatever snafu they've landed in. He no sooner sits with the Chief of Police to go over matters when an earthquake causes the death of the Chief and chaos ensues. When relief workers arrived he was shocked to see Sarah, the woman he had to leave over four years ago. Sarah and David's story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Caitlyn O'Leary in the future. Her Steadfast Hero is book 1 of the Black Dawn Series and book 2.5 of the Midnight Delta Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
*Her Steadfast Hero* by Caitlyn O'Leary is a quick read that packs a lot of suspense into a short format. The story revolves around Navy SEAL David Sloane and his mission to rescue Dr. Carys Adams from a hospital overrun by dangerous convicts. Despite its brevity, the book is filled with action, particularly the intense efforts to recapture the escaped prisoners.
David is a strong and somewhat alpha male, but not overwhelmingly so. His character is balanced, making him a likable hero. The heroine, Sarah, is equally tough and gives as good as she gets, adding a refreshing dynamic to their relationship.
While the romance takes a bit of a backseat to the suspense, it’s a solid story that would appeal to fans of romantic suspense looking for a quick and engaging read.
David and Sarah dated in the past. They knew their time together would be short but the time they did spent together they formed a bond that they couldn't shake. Years later a natural disaster brings these two back together again.
I loved reading about these two. They are two of the most grown up people I have read about in awhile. These two are in the middle of a disaster and even though they know they need to talk and their chemistry is still there, they both have a job to do. I did like reading about the parts that even though they were tired and when they did get a break, sexy time was ON!
This is an extended version from Cuffed and Claimed and yet, I still fell in love all over again with this incredible novella! Caitlyn O' Leary is one of my all time favorite romantic suspense authors and Her Steadfast Hero is fast paced, action packed, tender, sweet, and perfectly sexy. I love...LOOOOVE David and Sarah! This couple have an intense and passionate chemistry and while they work on their unstoppable love for each other in the midst of an earthquake and danger, I found myself sighing dreamily, my heart melting, and I found myself completely and utterly satisfied and BEGGING for more! The story is balanced beautifully and is amazingly written. I HIGHLY recommend this author and EVERY one of her stories, big and small!
I think my favorite part of this book is that there are no ill feelings to overcome, no disastrous breakup, no other woman; it’s a reconnection that feels fated, and David and Sarah are both mature and intelligent about their relationship. David is the person everyone wants in a crisis; calm, competent, and focused, he takes over the running of the prison, sets about proving his men innocent, races to the rescue of the hostages, protects the islanders … Sarah is certainly a match for him, with an inner core of strength – a typical Caitlyn O’Leary heroine. This is the first in the Black Dawn series, but I read everything out of order, and believe me, that doesn’t detract from my enjoyment, so if this is still one of your unreads, treat yourself!
Assignment in Las Flores; David is an Army investigator who becomes acting chief of Police after an earthquake disrupts the city and frees dangerous convicts. Sarah is a nurse with Doctors Without Borders. If he put her in the past why does he know it has been four years, five months and sixteen days?
You are immediately immersed in the chaos of the earthquake and into the lives of those involved. As if we are there struggling to make the best decisions and save lives. A captivating story of danger, generosity and second chances.
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
Her Steadfast Hero has all the bells and whistles!
As always Her Steadfast Her has all the bells and whistles you have come to experience from this author. Military suspense, alpha men, strong kick ass women, prison breaks and to top it all off an earthquake that destroys most of the city. David and Sarah have such chemistry that the rest of the story happens around their HEA. As always O'Leary's character development will keep you turning page after page. You will love main characters and while there are many secondary characters they add so much to the story that you become attached to them as well. Great writing, great characters, great story what more can you ask for.
I originally read this book from the Cuffed & Claimed box set, but this is a new extended release of that version. I love a good military romance, and Caitlyn O'Leary knows how to weave a tale involving strong men in service and their strong women. David, now an Army investigator, is shocked when he runs into Sarah who is a nurse working with Doctors Without Borders. They share a past together but parted ways, yet the chemistry between them still sizzles. Loved this wonderful action-packed novella//prequel. It's a great addition to her other series,, and we're introduced to new characters that I can't wait to read about! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This is the story of an Army investigator David Sloane and former Army nurse Sarah Kyle, who is now with Doctors Without Borders. They meet when David is sent to a small Island to see about two missing Army soldiers who have been imprisoned. The day he gets there the island is hit by a devastating earthquake that destroys the prison and a bunch of convicts escape. He is tasked with putting the prison back to rights and apprehending the escapees. They see each other for the 1st time in four years when she is tending to a patient. Neither has gotten over the other. I loved this story. It has everything danger, angst, intensity, and endless passionate chemistry.
I first read a shorter version of this story in the anthology "Cuffed & Claimed. I was thrilled to have the chance to read it again with more. Earthquake! Major damage to an island country, one with a lot of corruption. Captain David of the Military Police finds himself placed in charge of rounding up escaped prisoners after the jail was damaged. Sarah arrives with 'Doctors without Borders' - a blast from his past. Their chemistry sizzled throughout this tale of action and drama involved in capturing these dangerous prisoners. I really enjoyed this well written story and highly recommend it.
