Here it is in its entirety. You have twelve books and well over one million words of zombie goodness.
THE DEAD WALK!
Welcome to the world of T.W. Brown's DEAD saga. This raw, violent, and brutal world isn't populated with military supermen and women, or preppers that have been waiting for the human extinction event to arrive. This is a world of normal people...some good, some bad...and some pure evil.
This is a global look at the end of the world. Follow Steve and his group as you see the apocalypse unfold through a single person's eyes. With The Geeks, you meet four young men who thought a zombie apocalypse would be cool...and quickly discover that it really isn't.
In the Vignettes, you will get short glimpses of the state the world has fallen into. Some will only be a single offering. Others might stick around for a while, but rest assured...NOBODY IS SAFE.
Tucked away in the Pacific Northwest with my wife Denise, a Border Collie named Aoife, a guitar collection, and an increasing number of aquariums sporting a variety of fish (cichlids are my new favorites), I live for football season when I can cheer on the Oregon Ducks and be disappointed by my Seattle Seahawks once again. I am a fan of Cookie Monster, KISS, and Dr. Who (along with most things British).
As a person who always dreamed of writing as well as one completely enthralled by all things zombie, it is hard to believe that I never once considered writing in the genre. It is true. I wanted to be more “mainstream”. The first novel I actually wrote is titled Dakota (as Todd Brown). It is about a pair of DEA types tossed back in time to just prior to the start of the Civil War. They are in Charleston, South Carolina, and one of them is an African-American.
The zombie thing really started when I wrote a short for a college Creative Writing class. The teacher, Ms. Bose, pulled me up and told me I had an obvious love for the subject and a real talent for the style. I decided to give it a shot.
The first thing I cobbled together was Zomblog. I wrote it as a warm up for the project I had brewing in the back of my mind. It is a journal account of the apocalypse. The funny thing is that it was never intended to be published. A few things happened and it ended up being presented to me as a gift in book format by my wife for a Christmas present. There was something I will never forget about holding the copy of that book in my hand the first time. Because it gained a readership, and those readers asked for more, I made it a trilogy (Zomblog, Zomblog II, and Zomblog: The Final Entry). It is also because of those fans that I have returned to the Zomblog universe and just released the sixth (and FINAL) book in the series on Halloween of 2013: Zomblog: Snoe's Journey. I freely admit that I will sellout my plans to write what the fans ask for.
I really want my DEAD series to be what I am known for, and in the last year, it has really taken off. However, I will say that with the release of the fourth book in the DEAD series (DEAD: Winter), the numbers started to pick up beyond my wildest dreams.
The DEAD series (DEAD: The Ugly Beginning, DEAD: Revelations, and DEAD: Fortunes & Failures, DEAD: Winter, DEAD: Siege & Survival, DEAD: Confrontation, DEAD: Reborn) is scheduled to be a 12 part epic series.
It is told in three rotating chapters. One is from the first person perspective of Steve Hobart, a man thrust into the role of leader for a group of survivors struggling to keep alive. One chapter follows a group of four self-professed zombie “geeks” who initially believe that the zombie apocalypse would be fun and soon discover that it is nothing like the movies. The third of the rotating chapters is called “Vignettes” and is a series of snapshots from all around the world. Some of the vignettes are single chapter episodes, others are continuing threads that carry on for several chapters. A few are merged into the Steve story or the Geek story line.
Last year,I began my horror/comedy series, "That Ghoul Ava" and have found it to be my new guilty pleasure.
These books are way too fixated on rape, sex slaves, zombie children, and child sexual abuse.
I don't automatically hate all books that touch on these topics, but I bought a series about the zombie apocalypse. I expect a crap ton of bloody, squishy, dismembering, brutal zombie fighting action. It's a shame, then that more text is devoted to sexual abuse than survival, or killing undead.
Where does that leave us? It's okay.
It could be great, but the writer has some strange fixation on men having sex with young girls (and sometimes boys) and keeping women as sex slaves. AT first it was like "Whoa! That's messed up!" but 20% into this and seeing nearly every new male character with an obsession with either one or both of these things is just tired and boring. Feels like the author is working out his own issues in this book and pushing it on the reader. It's just unrealistic. There are literally more men in this book who are into 10-16 year old girls than regular guys.
When we aren't being walked through some twisted underage sex slave fantasy, we're constantly being hit with dead child zombies.
It's really a shame. The rest of the story has so much promise, and the descriptive writing isn't bad. The problem is that the book is always harping on the same descriptive shit. There's no variety. Every single bad guy (and some of the good guys) is the same young girl (or boy) loving slaver with a different name and face. It's kind of unforgivable in an audio book this long.
It's a shame the author didn't look to other zombie fiction, movies, and TV series for inspiration for conflict and drama. Instead it's like he sat down and said "We need a new bad guy..... Wait... why don't we have him keeping women as slaves..... Wait! Let's make him obsessed with sex with minors too! Yeah people will really hate him then!" .... 4 ... 10... 20... 462435352345 times until the series ended.
Some people have really strange ideas about the world when they call this series "realistic." I just don't buy it. I 100% don't believe that within 1 month of a zombie apocalypse 70% of people with dicks are going to turn into rapists, sex slavers, and child molesters.
Rating: 2.5 It would be a solid 4 if not for the cookie cutter characters and conflicts being regurgitated a billion times.
The writing, the narration...everything about this series was A1. Top dog. I can't sing enough praise for it. You fall in love with the characters, you fall in love with the story line...you fall in love with their progress. You get happy with them, you get sad with them. You will feel all the feels. As an fan of the TV show that's been running for years, this definitely was a book series well equivalent. There are hard parts to read, but you need to understand, they are realistic especially once the world goes to shit, there will be some really messed up people and TW Brown wasn't afraid to write about them. I'm just going to say if you love Zombie books that aren't soley about the gore and killing zombies then this is the one for you. This book is more than just another Zombie series. It's long, but I know i'll end up listening again. I just finished and already miss the characters.
I listened to this on audible, all 143 hours and 15 minutes of it. I really loved this. I was so invested in all the characters and was mostly very happy with how each story progressed and then concluded. Even when the endings weren't the happiest, they felt like good way to wrap up things. The narrator, Andrew McFerrin, has got to be one of the best audiobook narrators I have ever heard, he gave each character their own distinct style and flair. I often get irritated with male narrators putting on stupid voices for female characters but Andrew did a fantastic job and seamlessly switched between characters without missing a beat, so much so that youbarely noticed they were all voiced by one person. I seriously give 10/10 for the narration. The series overall I give a 4.75/5 stars. It was a fantastic time and an excellent story spanning over a massive time frame. Characters were well developed and relationships between characters were always so interesting. The only place it fell down was in a few of the vignettes where there was an abundance of violence against women and children, some of it sexual violence, and as much as I know that would definitely happen in a zombie apocalypse, it felt a little like it was being done for shock value alone. That's being said, that was a small part of a massive saga. Again 4.75/5 stars, which has been rounded up to 5/5 for goodreads. Seriously if you like zombies and have an audible account, spend a credit on this. 12 books+ vignettes, 143 hours and 15 minutes of awesome writing and narration for a single credit!
I’m not sure I can adequately sum up my emotions to give a quality review. Reading 12 novels back to back… it’s a marathon of the mind. You get hit with everything under the sun - fear, dread, joy, disappointment, surprise, disgust, you get the picture, right? It is the connections you make to the characters that keep you going. Only to cause a sort of crisis when you finally reach the true end. I’m in reader mourning. All chronic readers get it, and sometimes it even causes us to switch genres for a few reads to help cleanse through the tears and sense of loss. See? All I can talk about is emotions! Yes, the series is in most zompoc must read lists. The Author interiors are the beginning of each novel is absolutely recommended. Trust me? Go pick up book one, either singly or as part of a box set. Best of all, Enjoy! Thanks for the amazing experience, TW Brown. You made my great authors list.
A long journey into the apocalypse with a variety of characters from diverse backgrounds. I put this on hiatus for ages before returning. I'm glad I finished it. The audio-book benefits from increasing playback speed, in my case, to 1.6. Be warned; the author kills off many characters and some of these aren't good choices in my opinion.
To me, the mark of a great book is how you feel when characters you've traveled with meet their end. There's many in this book, and I found myself feeling sad and empty after losing them. I also think the last couple of entries we're a bit long-winded considering how things kind of fizzled out towards the end without much action going down.
All in all, a worthwhile experience that requires some patience and endurance, as well as the understanding that endings are always sad and difficult, but ultimately a reality we all find ourselves living in from day to day.
Well there you go - I let you know in the subject line which way I was leaning so you wouldn't have to steel yourself before reading my review. First, I want you to know that I seldom write reviews, but I felt the Dead series deserved one..... This was the greatest - I got so invested in the characters that I hated it when the book was done, and wished it could go on forever. Now I'm going to read the second Dead series as well as the snapshots that you are writing. Your book gave me many hours of enjoyment and I was able to escape into the world you created for us... Never a dull moment, and so easy to relate to the characters...... Keep up the good work Mr. Brown - you are awesome and you ROCK!!!! Your proof readers need a little more practice.... Keep on writing!!!!!
I have never fallen so hard for characters in my life. This collective has become my non work reality. I am so hurt that I'm stuck back in the real reality where I have to clean and go to work and pay bills. What, after living so carefree with all of these people that have become like family, am I just supposed to do after work? I will miss them all so much and in a year I will read it again and hopefully much of it will wear away so that it cam be like new again. This is my favorite series of all time in any media type. I will recommend this and reread it until the end of time. Thank you so much for sharing these amazing tales with us and please Please don't stop. 👏👏
I really loved this book. I really did. Up until a part. I loved the side stories with secondary characters. Those were amazing. I love the style and development of the characters.
[Spoiler] You can't write a first person story and kill off the main character. When he killed off Steve, I was out. There is no more story after that. He killed Steve and my suspension of disbelief died with him. I was done. Thanks but no thanks.
I have read many good zombie series but this has to be the best. I feel as if Mr Brown brought his characters to life and while zombies were in the books the focus was on the characters. Some survived and some did not but this made the books better and as realistic as you can get when writing about zombies. I am looking forward to reading more by Mr. Brown
This is a great series for true ZOMBIE fans. I really loved the realism that was brought to this series. Also the different twists on zombie lore. Original! I dug the fact that this series is complete so that I could read it straight through. If not the cliffhangers at the end of each book would have drove me crazy.
Amazing series! I was quickly drawn into the story and became addicted. Told through various points of view, we get to glimpse the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse through different perspectives... The good guys, the bad guys, the undead themselves... This is a definite reread and recommendation.
Never been a zombie fan but stumbled across this and fell in love from the beginning. Each book drew you in as you got to know the characters. Loved how each one grew as there journey went on. Absolutely love T. W. Brown and thank you for this absolute gem that I highly highly recommend to everyone. Its been a marathon zombie fest that's came to an emotional end. Brilliant 👌
This is easily my favorite Zombie Genre Collection. If you're a Walking Dead fan then this will take you to another level . This series is horrific, heart breaking and enraging. It will open your eyes to the best of humanity and crush you with the worst of humanity . It will make you cheer for heroes and cry when they fall . This is not at all a series for the faint of heart or easily disturbed ... hell I'm not easily disturbed and this series broke my heart , made me laugh and at times made me cry . This isn't a story just about Zombies but this is the reality of us. . . The human species .
Book 1-3 wow, Just wow. A lot has happened. The world is overrun with zombies. The fight for survival is savage. The book 3 ended without my need for vengeance. I will not give spoilers. What i would say, is I had to get use to the back the and forth between the many group of survivors. I literally took notes. On to the next episodes.
Good story not like the silly movie. This is about people and how they handle life. It's a very good read. I normally do not read zombie books, but this set is a very good read.
The Dead series as a set was great. I didn't have to keep ordering the next book it just kept going and I could really get into the whole story. The story and writing was great and I loved the two little girls and how they fort the Zombies. They really made the book very enjoyable.
I loved this entire twelve book series! I have been listening every day since I started it. He provides his own original twist on zombies. TW Brown me made me laugh, cry, gasp in shock and cringe throughout the twelve books. The narrator was wonderful. Wow!
I love it. it's so good. definitely check your trigger warnings these a lot of really bad things that happen but also some good. I highly recommend but with a word of caution don't get emotionally attached to ANYONE! no one is safe.
REALLY tried to give this book a chance but there’s too much changing between perspectives and also the rape scenes are far too much and often. once or twice sure ok but at a certain point obvi the author is working though something in his work.
I was lucky enough to acquire the complete twelve-book series of The Dead. The epic adventure begins with six groups of survivors that the story rotates through; usual for this genre. We have Steve, a late twenties-something average guy who takes on the responsibility of five-year-old neighbor girl Talia. This duo is soon to expand by a couple more and then a few more after that. Madeline Bosley and Rick are trapped in a hospital with youngster Nicky who was bitten. Then there’s Juan “tight like a tiger” Hoya, a Mexican male who sees opportunity in the disaster. Ian and Dillon, current residents of Iowa state prison. Antoine Maxwell heading for Eastern Oregon. And lastly, Kevin, Mike, Darrin, and Cary having visions of a South Dakota cabin. Some of these six groups may join together, get larger, or disappear altogether. Later, we encounter a larger community set up in a Four Seasons Hotel. We follow all these folks through the multiple volumes as they survive the apocalypse, or not. Four.point.five for continuity. Multiple read dates denote books in the series.

I saved this book for a long time after it was gifted to me-I love zombie 🧟 books-my favorite genre. While I liked this one it it is not one of my favorites. Honestly I am writing this review several months after I finished the audiobook and I cannot really recall much about it-sadly it did not leave long standing memories.
