Gabriel Winchester was finally getting to open his own practice. With the last of the painting done in the patient’s rooms, he sat back in his unfinished office and closed his eyes, just to rest them, he told himself. When he opened them, there was a burly stranger sitting across from him, and he wasn’t too friendly. He was looking for a Rayne McFarland and “I don’t know who she is” wasn’t an acceptable answer. So he called his brothers through their link to help.

Rayne was on the run from her father, and when he caught up with her she knew she’d be dead. Rayne could speak to the dead and they warned her every time her father’s henchmen were near. What she didn’t count on was falling in the woods and injuring herself.

When his brother, Owen, brought the unconscious woman into his office, his wolf knew immediately who she was to them. Ready or not, Gabriel had a mate, and he could handle the human threat to her, but could he handle the dead?

'Gabriel' is the second book in Kathi S. Barton's "Winchester Brothers" series. From the time Gabriel was sixteen he's known he wanted to be a doctor but not the kind he was presently working at. He had the practice he was in buy him out and open his practice to practice the kind of personalized medicine he wanted. As he was trying to finish setting everything up in his office he found his first patient. I have to tell you, at this point "listening" to the conversation, I had to giggle repeatedly. He no sooner gets that crisis situated, sits in the chair, and closes his eyes for a bit just to have a breather. When he opened them he was being threatened by a large man he didn't know for information about a girl he'd never seen. You see where this is going, right? This was a well-told story with fully developed characters. The family is ever increasing and that brings new drama, villains, a crazy or two, and humor. Wrap all that in a fated-mate relationship with all the chemistry and romance and you have a great Kathi S. Barton book.

Pretty Good!

I’m only saying pretty good because most of the bad vs good plot was over in the middle of the book & that was disappointing to me.

I almost gave this book a 2 star rating because overall I feel that this book was just ok. It does have a good vs bad plot & some slightly descriptive sex scenes & the family helping family out but, it was just an ok book for me.

Gabriel is the doctor in the family & he finds his mate Rayne when his brother Owen brings her to him for treatment after she fell in the woods.

Rayne, sees & helps dead people; but, she can also send those that are dead but don’t follow the rules to a place where there’s nothing & no one for them to bother.

Rayne’s father, Carson (& there was a mate named Carson in the Manning Brothers book too; which I find funny sine I read that series before this book) was 1 of many bad people in her life & she was trying to run away from him when she was directed by 1 of the ghosts that she sees to go to the Winchester family.

This is the beginning of Gabriel & Rayne’s story & now is the time to decide whether or not you are going to read this book.

Loved it

Gabe is settling in as a country doctor. Happy to be doing what he loves on his terms.
Ranye thought she had escaped her wealthy criminal father. He has tracked her down and she is on the run. Rayne is a death watcher. She is able to communicate with the dead and has power over them. Her father wants to use her gift. Injured and in danger of being caught by her father a spirit leads her to help.
Gabe wasn't expecting to find his mate, when his brother called him for help. He sure didn't expect to share her gift when they bonded. Now that he does, he is ready to help any way he can.
Gabe isn't the only one in the family facing big change. Caleb and Quinn are adjusting to bings the pack Alpha's and to being parents to thee young boys. Kelly is learning how to be a grndadda and loving it. Owen makes some unexpected discoveries in the boxes and trunks left behind in the house he bought. Xander takes on the roll of father to an orphaned human girl. Loved Gabe and Rayne's story. The teases into Owen and Xander's story.

Gabriel was a hot character that I fell in love with. Sexy, tender, caring and a doctor (my mother would love him...lol). Rayne was a heroine after my own heart. Tough yet vulnerable, she falls in love reculantly. When the two came together...WHOAA! The heat index was off the chart. This was a great entry from Kathi S. Barton.

Gabriel, a doctor, finally did it. He opened his own practice, and now, upon completing the finishing touches, is taking a quick break in his office. However, an unexpected visitor interrupts and begins questioning him about a woman, one he's never heard of, and the man doesn't seem inclined to believe Gabe. Gabe doesn't hesitate in contacting, mentally as they're shifters and can speak through a family connection, for backup. A family friend also appears and, as she has a certain talent, is able to discern more of the story, the actual story.

She sees, and speaks to, the deceased. Rayne has had this ability for as long as she can remember, and believes she knows why, it stemming from a situation with her birth. This ability, unfortunately, isn't always a blessing as her father plans to abuse it. So now, after being informed of his plans for her, including marrying a man of his choosing, Rayne runs. Thankfully, she's fairly able to stay one step ahead of him, but, while helping the authorities locate a lost soul so they'll finally know peace, Rayne is injured.

Gabe knows immediately upon seeing the woman his brother, Owen, has brought in needing medical help that she's his mate. Thankfully, Gabe is saved from having to explain not only what he is, but also who she is to him. Rayne, on the other hand, does not have as easy a time explaining what she can do to Gabe. Yeah, the man who can turn into a wolf, is hesitant to believe his fated mate can talk to the dead. *Irony.*

As Gabe and Rayne begin their journey toward mating, they must first completely out Rayne's issues to rest, starting with ensuring she's safe from those after her.

Can Gabe protect Rayne? Will she ever be free of her father's plans for her? How will Gabe react upon learning Rayne's abilities are no longer just hers? Can they both accept what being with one another entails? Is there a HEA in their future?

One-click now and follow along as fate steps in, leading two people to their destiny.

After the death of a family friend, Gabriel Winchester is finally opening his own practice. He now got the funds, his family is behind him, and he has to get out from working under those who don't seem to have an scruples. While working on the last bit of setting up he's confronted by a man looking for a woman, and he's determined to find him with Gabriel's help.

Rayne McFarland has been on the run from her father. She's been able to keep one step ahead thanks to her mother...her dead mother. Rayne has a gift that not many people believe in. She's able to talk to the dead and help them when necessary. She's been told the Winchester's can and will keep her safe, she just has to get there before her father's men find her.

Gabe is one of these sweetest men Kathi has written. While he doesn't judge Rayne when he doesn't believe in her gift, he tries to keep an open mind because he knows he needs to, to make their mating work.
The Winchester family takes right to Rayne and will help to protect her from the men coming after her no matter what they have to do.

As always, Ms. Barton doesn't disappoint and her characters always get such interesting mates. Gabriel is a Doctor, while he is a paranormal being and believes in magic he still has a hard time believing his mate can see dead people. Rayne is running from her father, he wants to use her gift to benefit himself and she wont let that happen. Meeting her mate while on the run was unexpected, meeting his family just made things interesting. Each new story in any of Ms. Barton's series is guaranteed to keep you entertained. Her characters are easy to like, her storylines are easy to follow and it is written in a way to draw you in to her worlds and keep you there. I thought the choice of necromancer for a mate was unique and I can't wait to see how this plays into future stories as this author doesn't do anything without a purpose.
I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion.

In book 2 of Winchester Brothers.....Gabriel finds his mate. Gabe is finally getting to open his own practice. As a medical doctor he can't wait to be out on his own.

Rayne MacFarland is on the run from her crazy father. He's been abusive to her all her life and now is trying to get her to marry another abuser. She fears for her life. When she's hurt a stranger takes her to Dr. Winchester....when he sees her his wolf reacts very protectively. Gabe learns his mate is what's referred to as a Death Watcher.....she can communicate with the dead.

This was a nice love story and found the parts with the ghosts to be very entertaining. The end of this book helps to introduce the story for the next Winchester brother Owen.

It was interesting for the doctor to now be able to speak with the dead. Just wish they explained the why all of a sudden her gift was shared to her mate. Have to re-read book 1 I've forgotten any of the characters in this.
