One-Time Second in Line

Rate this book
Prince Albert Harrington, aka Bertie
She sees beyond my title. She sees right through me. And if it wasn’t for this disease, I would never have held her in my arms.
My entire life has been run for me, because of who my father is, the King. But now I have to make the choices. Time may not be on my side, but I’m too selfish to let her go. Rose Summers is the one I should have met years ago. I should refrain from getting myself romantically entangled with her. But as each grain falls through my hourglass, it’s a moment with her I cannot imagine being without.

She’s my anchor to life.
My will.
My last chance at normal.

Rose Summers
After my brother Jack passed away from cancer, and my parents went back to their roots to live the happy hippy self-sufficient life, I trained and worked hard to help others who became ill, hoping to make a difference. I thought I had found my calling. That is until I was offered the position to care for the most eligible, handsome, but stubborn bachelor on the planet, Prince Albert Harrington. Now the only calling I have, is to him. My feelings, my professionalism, have all been swallowed up by the Prince in denial.

He takes my heart.
My body.
He takes my reasoning away.

Warning: Contains scenes of an adult nature, adult humor, issues that some readers may find upsetting, and a different kind of HEA.

Okay plot, but it was ruined for me by the lack of polish.

What I liked:

1. Beautiful cover photo. The colors and the gorgeous guy really pull the eye. Some will no doubt one-click just because of that cover, and who can blame them?
2. It's available through KU so if you're signed up, it's free.

What I didn't like:

1. The editing. Punctuation problems; grammar errors (White can't conjugate lay); misspellings; "the King, the Prince"; and odd word choices.
2. Lack of tension in the story. The only real tension comes from the fact that Bertie is dying and we know that before turning the first page, from the synopsis.
3. I'm not a fan of cliches. I know it's hard to keep them all out but there are more cliches here than flies on a horse's rump (see what I did? but at least I made mine up). She even sneaked one into the blurb.

This was one I didn't finish. But if you're unbothered by careless editing, looking for a romance featuring a royal fill-in-the-blank and a commoner, and you don't care about stuff like tension, One-Time may be perfect for you. It wasn't a good fit for me.
