As Chief Archivist at St. Mary University in Detroit, Deborah Brooks is smart, beautiful and focused. Deep within the archives, she cares for letters, diaries, books and family records, each telling stories of lives lived long ago. Yet nothing excites her more than making new discoveries among the storied collections. When the university receives the Dubois Collection anonymously- along with a multi-million dollar gift to protect it- Deborah is more than intrigued to discover its secrets.
Little prepares her for an unexpected visit from the donor- the sexy Englishman Ben Stewart. He is relentless, charming and far more than she imagines. He shatters everything she thought she knew... about herself. Together they unravel the secrets of the Dubois Collection, finding love and mounting danger along the way.
But it’s Ben’s utterance of one word - awaken- that triggers a flurry of unrelenting visions she can’t escape. Deborah soon learns the visions are key to unraveling the mystery that binds her to Ben. Can they save each other or will he lead to her ultimate demise?
This is my first book that I have read from Ms. Chevelle Allen and I must say it was exhilarating! I immensely enjoyed the characters of Deborah and Ben in how they were written. They were both scholarly, well spoken individuals who also exuded hot blazing sensuality. This was a cleverly well written paranormal tale that was also original. I loved the descriptive writing, vast use of formal words. It was an overall intellectual love story with historical references and supernatural forces. This will not be the last story I read from Ms. Allen. This has been one of my favorite stories I have read in a long time. Do yourself a favor and click to get your copy.
If it weren't for the rushed ending - and the lack of condoms - this book could have easily gotten 5 stars, with its awesome plot and attention to detail (especially with its historic references). 'Asira Awakens' was well-written, with two very likeable, sexy protagonists. I wanted more, and actually expected another book! ???
That is what Deborah/Asira and Ben learned. Before, the spiritual beings were angry because the Supreme Being abandoned them but they did not know it was a part of a greater learning plan.
This story was creative and imaginative. Deborah was written as a complicated character who did not remember her past. Her only clue to unlocking her past were her night terrors. Ben was a complicated character going from urgently looking for Asira to eliminate her to falling helplessly in love with her and wanting to be her protector and giving his life for her if need be.
I see an allegorical parallel to the bible with Ben offering his life and some of the other spiritual beings as fallen angels. The religious symbolism his not lost.
The author, Chevelle Allen, did some extensive research in writing this well put together book
I'm not great at writing reviews. I can tell you I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I do hope the story continues.
One thing is I did not get is overly annoyed with characters. I do find myself skipping out on a series because of character development. Or the story just falls flat. I did not feel this with Asira Awakens.
I loved this book. It started out a little slow but then it just exploded and I could not put it down. This was a great book. I hope this is not the end of Ben and Asira aka Deborah. I would like to read more about them. I highly recommend this book. This is my first time reading anything by this author but it won't be my last.
I really enjoyed this book. I really appreciated Deborah's refreshing strength and age. Some books have the females appearing immature and making childish decisions; not here. Deborah and Ben were both adults, making refreshing adult decisions. The love story began fast, but it evolved and they acknowledged it each step of the way, especially it being surreal. The suspense was awesome, keeping us intrigued, we knew the ending, but it was interesting to take the journey. The love scenes were so swoon worthy.
I could not put "Asira Awakens" down! I have read all of Chevelle Allen's books and was not sure what to expect, but this book exceeded all expectations. It is tailored for the mature audience and is a page turner. "Asira Awakens is imaginative, intriguing and sexy. I can't wait to see what she does next.
this was my first book that I have read by Chevelle Allen. I really enjoyed the fact that this book is so well written. It draws you in with stories of the past, present and what you can look forward to for the future. I definitely am looking forward to reading more of her books
The ending had me very much confused. Way to many details were left out for the book to end the way it did. The story was good but the ending decreased it's score
Watching this writer evolve has been such a ride! I knew this book was going to be amazing just because the cover was so different from the others. This is an amazing story that weaves genres seamlessly. Yes, there are paranormal elements, but what a dynamic love story that has historical references, mythology and so much more. Get yours-you won't sorry!
Just finished reading "Asira Awakens", my first read in this Genre. Ben and Deborah's story is so very Special and Unique and So Hot. I have to give Author Chevelle Allen her " props", for the Research alone for this story, which in itself was interesting. Ben and Deborah!!!!!
Ben is a God, here to find the elusive Asira. Along the way he meets Deborah, who unbeknownst to her, is going to be instrumental in his search. Can't wait to read the next chapter in their lives!
They say it's tacky for an author to rate their own work... I'm certainly not trying to be tacky. But I will say this book was an interesting journey for me as a writer. If you know my work- this is a departure of sorts, but my hallmarks are still present. If you love dynamic characters, strong plot lines and romance set against an incredible set of 'other worldly' circumstances- this may be the book for you. I hope you enjoy it! It will be released July 11th.
I read this book in one day, it kept me intrigued. I found some of it disturbing knowing that history was brutal and how horrible humans are to one another, but inspire of it all a sense of pride is brought forth in the people who survived. This is an excellent read. Bravo Ms. Allen. Deborah and Ben were perfect.
I was totally in love and captivated by this book. The author did a fabulous job with plot/storyline, character development, etc... Desperately looking forward to reading book two and reading how their story pans out.
My first book by Chevelle Allen and I loved it. I wish there was a little more of Asira in this book but I loved the dynamic between Ben and Deborah. I will be reading the sequel soon.
This is a completely different genre - paranormal, interracial, and multicultural. Not sure what the other form was - some type of god. The book held my interest from the beginning but not enough backstory on the main characters or the supporting characters. Were the supporting characters supporters of Ben or Veshlu or others who conspired against Asira?
The love story between Deborah/Asira and Ben/Bensai transcended time, space, religion, race and species. There just wasn't enough explanation of what the minor characters were - gods or angels or other?
The ending was rushed and not satisfactory at all. Still, the book left me wanting more so I will read Book Two. Hopefully some questions will be answered, otherwise I will have read two books with disappointing ending.
