"Love me. Come back to me. Look at me like you used to. Touch me. Stop breaking me.”

description

Ella Fields delivers one hell of a debut novel that was impossible to put down. Her writing is solid, sexy, and suspenseful. The story is about a wife and mother of two, Lia who has been married for ten years to her husband Leo. From the first page, her cries for any sort of reaction from Leo that he cares that their marriage is sinking is heartbreaking.

"I can’t keep waiting on him. I can’t keep hanging on by a frayed thread. I think it needs to snap once and for all. Let the pieces fall where they may. Because if he won’t do it, then they only person who can fix this pain and make me happy again is me.”

description

The author writes the heroine’s day-to-day very well as we get to know her married girlfriends and a younger man named Jared who’s very interested in Lila. Our heroine tries to scare her husband into caring/noticing her and his reaction shocks her and this reader.

description

The story does include cheating yet that isn’t the basis of this story and the author throws in a very, very, good reveal and will spin everything you know up to that point on its axis.

description

Overall, I loved this story truly an impossible read amongst a lot of the same old stories out there these days. I LOVED Leo and thought he was extremely well written. I am left wondering what the private eye number asked for would be used for if the author will continue the storyline in another book just for Jared?

My first read from Ella Fields and it was a smashing success! I didn't realize that this is her debut novel until after I had begun, but what is more fitting than starting your own journey with a new-to-you author than where their career has taken off from? Pull up a chair and buckle up, because this review might be more quotes than actual review, due to the fact that you really need to go into this one blind, but also because her writing is just that powerful.

description

"It's not love you should fear but, rather, the things you might do for it."

Where to begin? I had zero expectations going into this buddy read with Jenn @storiesandcoffee. I purposefully stayed away from reading reviews, because I have a habit of spoiling myself unintentionally, and this was most definitely the best route to go. What you need to know is that Dahlia and Leo's marriage is on the rocks, and Dahlia is really feeling the loneliness and heartache associated with the loss of intimacy in their relationship. What follows is a reckoning of epic proportions, and secrets are unveiled from all sides that have contributed to this falling out.

"I love you. Only ever, always you."

ALL. THE. FEELS. Stepping cautiously, you should know that this book deals with some heavy subjects. I'll include content warnings below, but I want to touch on the subject of cheating. If it is a trigger for you, I wholly respect your decision to steer clear of this story. However, if you are ok reading about this element so long as the cheating is not glorified or shown in a positive manner, then I highly recommend you give this book a go. I won't say more than that, but I will say that the reveal of why the marriage was in crisis completely took me by surprise; I could not predict where this was going, and I'm grateful the author took a sensitive and somewhat taboo subject and, not only gets the conversation going, but also follows through with steps towards healing. Ok, enough from me, just read the dang book! <3

"Life doesn't always follow the rules and plans you lay out for your future. Something always happens to make you realize that while yes, you are in control, some things just can't be predicted. And simply won't fit into the mold of your plans or dreams but rather, will smash them to pieces and force you to rebuild. So finding a way to be happy and live despite that is what matters. It's where you find your true strength and find out just how much you have."

Dahlia is a stay at home mum with two kids and a hot as hell husband, but her marriage is in a really bad place. I felt so sorry for Dahlia Leo treated her like dirt, I think getting ignored would be worse than being spoken to badly. He just completely ignored her and expected that to be okay. Even when he found out what was going on Leo just didn't care, all he said was "We're not getting a divorce". I mean come on I'd be so friggin mad having to live with that.

 photo fightforme_zpshrv2t87x.gif

Jared is younger than Dahlia and is doing community service at the shelter she volunteers at. He is hot, young and more importantly gives her the attention she is craving. It'd be hard to say no to someone who makes you feel alive after feeling dead for so long and Jared seems to know exactly what she needs to hear.
"Because I can smell a broken heart from a mile away, Blondie. And you"-he points a peeler at me-"reek of it."

Leo shocked the shit out of me half way through when he suddenly decided he gave a fuck. Then Leo's MASSIVE secret comes out and I can honestly say I didn't see that coming.
 photo stunned_zps4c09iwbk.gif

This was my first Ella Fields book and to say I was impressed would be an understatement. To be able to write such a controversial subject in a way that didn't come across offensive deserves credit. It seemed so realistic and dealt with real life problems with realistic reactions to those problems.

The characters are fantastic (well all but one, hehe), I loved the grandma's and Dahlia's friendship with Lola. This was a well written story of how a marriage can overcome adversity and boy what an emotion ride.

"…maybe we’re all a little broken.
Some of us are just better at hiding the missing pieces."

Cheating is my biggest pet peeve. I try to avoid such books and I probably would have never read this book if I didn’t spot Julia’s review.
She honesty included the major spoilers and it made me curious.
I’m glad I read this book.
It’s very interesting, almost cliché-free and has an unique plot.

Surprisingly (or not, coz I’m often that girl with different opinion) my sympathy for the main & side characters was different (again! *sigh*) from the majority of readers.
I liked the heroine a lot, I liked the OM and I wasn’t a big fan of the hero/the husband.

I didn’t support everything the heroine did, but I could understand why she did it! At the beginning I even judged her a bit; but then I saw how her husband treated her and I..., well..., got where she came from.

As always no retelling, I’m so bad in it. *facepalm*

I only point out, that there is indeed cheating in the book.
Despite the h didn’t have actual sex (penetration) with OM, they did oral and kissing.
Cheating is cheating.
It wouldn’t even bother me, if she did sleep with OM.

Shame on me!!! Yeah, it was really me, who wrote the line above!
I must honestly admit, and you know I always blab the truth, the main reason I wasn’t annoyed with the cheating – because it was a woman who had an affair and not a man (which is the case in 97% of all romance books).

Yes, I’m a hypocrite!
Yes, I support women and always try to be on the heroine's side!
So, judge me!

I wouldn’t go the path the heroine went, but I would definitely had a huge problem if my man treated me that way.

Yes, he was a victim at the end. But… and here I 100% agree with the heroine:
"You can’t fix a damn thing when the other person doesn’t want to."

I loved that the author didn’t choose cliché ending!!!
Respect!!!
The OM didn’t turn out to be a villain!
The heroin did NOT grovel! *I keep the author in my prayers*
The hero confirmed that he was a jerk to her and he did NOT sanctify his a§§holish behavior; he acknowledged his mistakes and accepted the whole situation.

It wasn’t all flowers-and-butterflies.
Not everything worked out, no miracles or jezz, but a plausible HEA.

Overall: well written unique story. I liked it a lot.

It has been a really long time where I've read a book in a span of hours. This book. Omg this book. It captivated me, it stole my life and held it hostage until the end. And man did I love it.

First things first, there is cheating, yes oh yes there is cheating. And if you know me, I hate, HATE, HaTe cheating, especially in real life. Books are a bit more tolerable but still... So this book was so very hard for me. And secondly, this author, how the hell is this her first book. It was damn near perfection. I'm in love with her writing!!!💗

Leo and Dahlia are the perfect family, have the beautiful house, all the money in the world, perfect children, the love everyone dreams of, until they don't........

Their relationship changes, Leo works longer hours, avoids Lia, doesn't touch, won't kiss, won't do anything romantic at all with his wife, barely has time for his kids, and is honestly quite the dick. But why? Dahlia can't figure it out. After months of asking and being shut out, she's done. She wants to feel wanted, loved, wants to laugh again.

In steps Jared. I never connected with Jared. I guess he was the 'other' man to me. But I just couldn't connect. He seems like a nice man, sexy, charming, but i was always reserved when it came to him. He always treated Lia with care and I know he honestly liked her. Things start to heat up in their relationship and then BAM 💥

Dahlia is a housewife, stay at home momma, and a lady everyone seems to know and like. She handles everything herself, doesn't call on anyone for help in all aspects of her life. I loved her, I hated her, and I absolutely adored her.

This story rocked me. It consumed my world. This story shattered me, it wrecked me, and it put me back together. I can't say what happens or how without giving anything away, but if you love a good love story, please read this one. It's simply an amazing love story with a hard journey but one I am so very happy I took the chance on!!!💕

It’s been days since I’ve read Frayed Silk and I’m still thinking about it even now. For me, that’s a sign of a good book.

No matter how much I want to down play the aspect of cheating that took place in this book (those of you that have read this story may understand my feelings), there definitely was cheating. So be forwarned! It may have seemed justifiable at the time, but there was no excuse for what the heroine let happen and no one understood that more than her. Her devastation at realizing her error in judgement and lack of knowledge on what was truly going on with her husband was heartbreaking to read.

There was a reason for her actions though. Her husband was treating her so, so cruelly that even I, who hates cheating plotlines, began to justify her choices along with her. BUT once her husband’s secrete came to light, the whole focus of the story, and my feelings along with it, quickly changed. The best part? The secrete wasn’t contrived or used for shock value. Nope! What happened was realistic and sadly very believable. And it’s so not what you think!

I had so many emotions while reading this book. I felt anger, disgust, judgement, saddeness, heartbrokenness, hopefulness, happiness, and even at time, giddiness. Boy, do love a book that can make me feel. I know this book won’t work for everyone, it just won’t, but somehow it worked for me.

There are some pacing issues, which is why I didn’t give it a full 5 stars, but I still ended up loving it. I loved it’s uniqueness, it’s conflicting emotions, it’s heartbreaking love story, and it’s cast of endearingly flawed characters.

FRAYED SILK: A full length, stand alone romance novel by Ella Fields

I went into this knowing that my heart would be torn in two, slayed in half, an emotional ride that would wreck havoc on my very being and that’s what Ella Fields delivered in a heartbeat. That first page grabs you unexpectedly, a wife, a mother to two adorable children, a woman struggling to get through to her husband, a marriage of ten years crumbling down around her feet, a man that hasn’t touched or offered her kind words in months she’s at her wits end questioning what have I done?

Choices she makes that necessarily wouldn’t be our own you still can’t help but connect with her character, you feel exactly what she’s going through, her struggles, her heart break, her deceit, but is it so wrong when her husband tells her to do what she wants? My heart literally broke and I wanted to shake Leo and wake him up to what he could potentially be throwing away.

I'm still madly. stupidly, and irrevocably in love with him.

Where did everything for this couple start going so wrong?

BUT THEN I got to the very gist of the story, the raw, sad story of what had happened to Leo and my heart was torn in two, kind, gentle Leo, he held my heart in the palm of his hand, I fell for his character, I cried over the injustice of what happened to him.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

But slowly as only this author can do I was mended as I raced through the pages towards the HEA I was hoping for.

I'd been in a book funk since reading 'Suddenly Forbidden' by this author so what better way to kick that funk to the curb than to read another one of her books and OMG I am so glad I did, but now I know I'm going to be heading into a second book funk after finishing this. This author throws out all the feels, the angst, the emotional turmoil, the love I felt for Jared and Leo in this book was heartbreaking, even though it all worked out how it was mean't to in the end, it still slayed me to smithereens.

Overall Opinion: This was not quite what I was expecting, but in a good way. I enjoyed it, but I felt like something was missing. I think it would've been extremely beneficial to have the H's POV! Some of his behavior was kind-of cruel toward the h, and even though I understand the reasoning behind it by the end of the book I wanted to understand him more. I get that they had some hot sex (and a lot of it by the end), but I wanted more in the form of communication and groveling along with the hot sex! It didn't seem like enough to me. Even though I will categorize this as a HEA I still feel a little apprehensive about doing that, because I'm not sure they fully worked out their problems to the extent I needed them to. .

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Dahlia's story (going to keep this vague in hopes of not ruining it). Dahlia is at her wits end with trying to understand the drastic change in her husband over the last several months. She becomes desperate and threatens things like a divorce and that she's having an affair, and when he doesn't react with anything but indifference she makes some bad decisions. This is her story in trying to find happiness again, and she does get a HEA ending.

POV: This was told in Dahlia's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, but there were already strong feelings developed when the story begins.

H rating: 3 stars. He was ok. I think it would've contributed a ton to have his POV to understand some of his off-putting behavior.

h rating: 3.5 stars. Dahlia. I liked her, but I think she could've gone about things a little differently.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: Yes

Cheating: Yes

Separation: No .

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had decent closure with what I would call a HEA ending.

How I got it: I paid the $3.99 on Amazon for it.

Safety: This one is probably Not Safe for most safety gang readers

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲. 📚

Lia's perfect marriage is falling apart and she has no idea why...
For months Leo, her sweet and romantic husband has become cold, distant and unwilling to admit that there's anything wrong - with him, with her, or with their marriage. 💍😭
When she tried to shake him and asked for a divorce, he doesn't respond... When she told him she was having an affair, he didn't even flinch.
She tried everything, but he's just... indifferent. 😬

This book is asking the question we are all afraid to ask - is it possible to fix a broken marriage, especially when you don't even know what's wrong? 💔

Then came Jared... A young, flirtatious and hot as hell man - and the lonely Lia is thinking of doing an unforgivable act. But her husband gave her a green light - right? He doesn't care what she does, RIGHT???

📚 "𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲. 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼. 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗺𝗲. 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲." 📚

THEN... came the BIG TWIST. 😱😱😱
God, I did NOT see that coming! I promise no matter how many theories you will have in mind (and you will have *a lot*...) non of them will come close to the truth!!! 😂
I can't add anything without spoiling, so I'll just point out that this twist was unique and original - I've never read about it in other books before!!! 👑
The only thing that bothered me was that the author created such a brilliant twist but didn't take full advantage of it. She didn't elaborate on its important implications and effects to the plot.

From the moment I started reading, I couldn't stop... I had to understand Leo's behavior, I had to know how far Lia would take everything with Jared and I definitely had to know if this couple could ever forgive each other. 😭🙏💔
I got my answers, but now that I'm done...? Damn, I need a glass of wine! 😂

📚 “𝗜’𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗲’𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵, 𝗵𝗲’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜’𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲.” 📚

The writing was full of emotion and the pain was so tangible that I felt everything with Lia. When she felt rejected and frustrated - I felt that too... When she felt fear and remorse - my heart was bleeding with her... When she was happy - I was relieved! ❤

This story had secrets, lies and pain - but the real story was about the power of love, acceptance, forgiveness and the importance of communication between couples...

If you ask me? This book a MUST READ!!!
BY FAR it's one of the best books I've ever read! ❤👏👑

I must admit, this beautiful cover caught my eye and led me to read the blurb. Once I read the blurb I was intrigued and decided to take a chance on a new author for me and boy was I happily rewarded. This story does involve cheating so if that is one of your triggers then I suggest you pass. But I will say this story is written with heart and soul and the author was able to make me understand the gravity and consequences of the cheating.

So let me begin.......There is an authenticity to this emotional story. A marriage unraveling and not knowing what to do to keep the silks from fraying. Doing an act that you think might illicit a reaction that will save your marriage. There isn't much logic when the heart is falling apart except to do things that will make it feel better.......even if those things might make the heart break even worse.

The reader is taken on the journey of this marriage in crisis. There are children to consider which makes it even harder as children are very cognizant of what is happening around them. Dahlia "Lia" is married to the love of her life, Leo. They have two children. All has been perfect with their life until it wasn't. This is where the story starts. This is where the emotion, heartbreak, frustration, desire, lust get thrown into a pot and starts to boil. You are present in their marriage and in their decisions. It's a beautiful train wreak you are experiencing. Lia has her girlfriend that she confides in and their relationship feels true. The children also add an extra truth to the marriage as it's unraveling. Of course, the tension and the distance between Leo and Lia has a reason and that reason is in itself a different and unique twist.

I throughly enjoyed this emotional and loving journey. It was different and heartfelt. There was angst and drama and very deep poignant moments to the story. The writer's words held me and made me feel for all the characters. A new author for me and one that I look forward to reading more from.

Marriage is not for the faint of heart. It take hard work and commitment. It can be tough and loving and heartbreaking at times. But vow are taken, for better or worse, and when those vows are broken, it's that love and commitment towards one another that makes forgiveness possible. This story had it all and left me with a happy heart and I thank the author for that!!

It's not love you should fear but, rather, the things you might do for it.
You know it's a good sign when you're highlighting the epigraph ^^

To say I loved this story would been an understatement. And the ironic thing about it is I don't gravitate toward stories with cheating and/or love triangles. Not because I hate the content, but because I typically don't enjoy how authors portray such stories. I don't believe all infidelity is black-and-white. Frayed Silk is a perfect example of this!

Dahlia (Lia) broke my heart! It's pretty rare for me to be satisfied with a single POV lately, but she had me completely enthralled. She's the last person you'd think of if you heard the word "cheater." She loves her husband and is devoted to her children. All she wants is to keep her family together.
I don't really want a divorce. Far from it. I just want my husband back. I just want my heart to stop hurting every time I look at him, and he looks away from me.
description

But Leo is constantly pushing her away, and she doesn't understand why. There are a few flashback scenes and he clearly adores her, so it's easy to see why Lia is confused. And while cheating isn't the right answer, it's also easy to see how she got there.
I can't keep waiting on him. I can't keep hanging on by a frayed thread. I think it needs to snap, once and for all. Let the pieces fall where they may.
Lia is desperate. Alone. In pain. And she turns to a man—Jared—who is paying attention to her.
My conscience is screaming at me. But this stupid need for some form of happiness and vengeance, I don't even know—wins out.
It feels too good to be cared for like this again for me to simply run out the door. Back to my cold house and even colder husband.
I loved Jared's character! One, because he was a lot of fun, and two, because he was actually very similar to past Leo. Ella did an amazing job of crafting his character. It was obvious (to me) that Lia was falling for the parts of Leo that he'd been keeping from her. His affection, his lightheartedness, his love.

But once she gets what she wants from Jared, and Leo finds out, she doesn't want the pieces to fall anymore. She doesn't know what to do or how to fix anything.
In a daze, I stare at the mess, wondering why, when there's so many missing pieces, so many irreparably broken fragments, you would even contemplate trying to piece it all back together. It'd be a misshapen cluster of desperation. A warped memory of what it once was, never to be the same again.
description

When we eventually find out why Leo pulled away, the situation becomes even more complicated. We didn't get Leo's POV, but I fell for him just as hard! He didn't immediately forgive Lia, but he didn't make her suffer either. He was willing to own up to his mistakes.
"We're in this together. Like we used to be, like we always should've been," he says.
description

I enjoyed many aspects of this book, but watching them work through their problems—both admitting their share of the blame—was one of my favorites!
And while I understand that some things can't be repaired, they can always be remade into something better.
^ This is undoubtedly my FAVORITE QUOTE 😍

Obviously if you're a strict safety ganger, I wouldn't recommend this book. But if you're like me, if you occasionally enjoy cheating/love triangle storylines but are wary of them, this is the book you should take a chance!

The only complaint I had (hence the obnoxious 0.5 deduction 🙈) was that I wish the situation surrounding Leo was a little more fleshed out. Particularly . I know that people are shitty so it's definitely not like she needed one, but I personally wanted more information on it.

This was slight in comparison to everything else, though. It's hard to believe it's Ella's debut novel, that's how good it is. The characters were amazing and the storyline was well-developed and intriguing. Add in stunning writing and a gorgeous cover, and this was a complete winner for me!

I've already read devoured Cyanide and I'm FREAKING READY FOR patiently waiting for Corrode 🤗 Ella Fields has quickly, and easily, become one of my go-to authors! ❤️

Overall, I liked this book because it was different. It deals with really sensitive issues that should be discussed more. I've been looking for books to broaden my horizons, and unfortunately that involves books with cheating, which I tend to stay away from. This book wasn't fantastic, but I think the author handled these sensitive issues very well.

“I’ve come to realize that this soul deep kind of love is an unstoppable force. And while I understand that some things can’t be repaired, they can always be remade into something better. Something stronger and harder to break.”
― Ella Fields, Frayed Silk

This book was a real surprise. In a very good way.

Here's the thing these days..it is rare when a book has the ability to surprise. Very rare actually. Usually, it is the opposite. Predictable story lines dominate.

Not here. Frayed Silk was a pleasure to read and I will say straight up that I am recommending it.

This book is about a marriage. But not in the conventional sense.

Dahlia's husband has grown distant. Distant to the point where he barely speaks to her. And she just wants him to love her again.

There was no fight..no argument. He just shut down one day. Now, they exist in an empty shell of a relationship. They drift..two strangers who barely speak.

Not that she hasn't tried to find out what in the world is going on. But Hubs will not answer her..

The books is addicting just in the first sentence which is "I want a divorce". But I wont say who says that nor what the answer is. Nor will I speak of what is going on with Hubs.

But what is going on will shock you.

This is a book that starts interestingly enough but at a certain point, turns into another book. Literally. What you think you know..you don't.

There is no murder. This is not a mystery in the conventional sense. But it will shock you and I have to give this wonderful author credit. Wow. Frayed Silk has a premise so unique I cannot recall the last time I read a book like this. I don't think I ever have.

Now as other reviewers have stated..INFIDELITY AND CHEATING ALERT: Also GRAPHIC SEX SCENES. If you absolutely cannot read about those things I'd suggest skipping this but otherwise..recommended to everyone.

The story here is unique, touching, tender and soulful. This book was nothing like what I had expected and THANK YOU Chelsea for your amazing review. That is what inspired me to read this.

It is so nice when one reads a book that has both emotional depth and is also so readable. I really commend the writer for how she handled everything in this book including..well..what I am not discussing. LOL. I do recommend this book. It is not to long either and can be read in one sitting if you so desire. Four stars. Excellent.

What on earth am I going to read next, because this was absolutely brilliant!

Now then – there’s cheating, it’s not hidden so if that’s a trigger maybe you want to avoid this book, keep your blood pressure down and then you don’t need to shit all over the book when said cheating commences.

There you go, I said it, there is cheating in this book, but ……. all is not as it seems. There are good reasons for what happens and the cheating is not done gratuitously. Should she have done it? Probably not, but then again I don’t know how I would act in that situation, so glass houses and all that - no judgement here. I also totally got why Leo changed the way he did, the huge impact this had on his marriage and his family.

This is told entirely from Dahlia’s POV with a couple of snippets in flashbacks to show just how they loved each other, how IN love they were with each other and how happy they were. These little snippets show just how bad things had gotten for Dahlia and Leo, the changes in them both were so glaringly obvious. At times I wanted to get in Leo’s head but that would’ve given the twist away too soon, and what a bloody twist it was! It shocked the crap out of me, I definitely didn’t see that one coming and felt absolutely wretched for both Leo and Lia. I was heartbroken for them, I read with my stomach in knots for a good part of the book. Ah the FEELS!

I really loved this one, and can’t wait to see what Ella Fields comes up with next. Possibly one for Jared??

Frayed Silk was intoxicating. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down. I was completely mesmerized with Dahlia and Leo's story. How their marriage had strayed so far from what they used to have. The helplessness Dahlia felt and her attraction to another man. The repercussions of her actions but there's always two sides to a story and I couldn't wait to find out why Leo was behaving the way he was. I loved the twist. I loved the flashbacks to Dahlia and Leo when they first met and most of all I loved how they worked and fought like hell to find their way back to one another.

Their chemistry was amazing! Wow. I felt it down to my toes. There wasn't a point where I hated or was frustrated with the two of them. Very early on I established a connection with the two of them thanks to a wonderful flashback. From that point on I was team Dahlia/Leo. They complemented each other flawlessly and I loved every scenes of them together. From the heartbreaking ones to the beautiful and emotional ones. Perfection.

Frayed Silk gave me exactly what I needed in a contemporary romance. Angst, romance, sex and most of all an intriguing storyline. I connected to the characters and cheered like hell for them. The poignant prose kept me glued to the pages until I reached the end which was incredible. I couldn't ask for more. Ella Fields is definitely on my radar now and I'm salivating for more.

this is one of the most selfish heroines I've ever read and I get mad just thinking about it. It's a pretty clear case of narcissism (me me me) when her husband was going through something traumatic. I mean, sure he was closed off, but wouldn't you rather divorce than be a piece of shit? Can't believe he took her back. What about next time he doesn't give her attention?

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Female
Rating:

For years Dahlia and Leo Vandellen had an enviable marriage. When it all suddenly torn apart, she felt alone and was left questioning what when wrong. Jared Williams came into her life when she needed him the most. Starved for affection, she decided to take it even if it didn't come from the man she promised her life to.

This book first caught my attention with the beautiful cover. And then I read the blurb, I knew I wanted to know more. I can say I didn't regret trying this new author to me.

I can’t keep waiting on him. I can’t keep hanging on by a frayed thread. I think it needs to snap, once and for all. Let the pieces fall where they may.

I could definitely put myself in Dahlia's situation. I understood her pain and her dilemma and I like how while she was dealing with her issue, she never neglected others around her. Though, personally I wish she would have pushed more instead of just taking it.

His presence, despite not being the man I desperately want, is somehow soothing.

When it comes to cheating, there are two types of story - the one that wreck it, or the one that mend it. I won't say which type this book is but I felt what happened was fixed too easily. I got the direction the author chose but I wanted one party to be featured more because that part of character/story development was stunted especially after something was expressed but never followed through.

The book was a lot less angsty than I expected but I'm ok with it. The revelation was a good one, which I didn’t expect and I'm glad it touched something that was not usually featured in romance. I like how the connection between the characters was intense and the sex scenes were pretty hot.

"Love me.
Come back to me.
Look at me like you used to.
Touch me.
Stop breaking me.”

Frayed Silk is a story of pursuing happiness. It would appeal to readers who enjoy low angst but intense story.

"Maybe we're all a little broken. Some of us are just better at hiding the missing pieces."

Flawless writing, captivating plot, and all the drama and angst you could ever want! That's what Ella Fields delivers in the mind-blowingly beautiful novel.

Ella Fields is a master! She really had me going the first 50-60% of this novel. I kept going over the circumstances repeatedly trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Never in a million years with an infinite number of guesses would I have guessed the punchline! Color me impressed!

The plot and execution were both fan-freakin-tastic! Add to that the fact that the writing is flawless and I'm blown away. I wasn't overly impressed with the characters initially. In fact, I wanted to nut Leo several times during the 50% of the novel, but the ending was totally worth my frustration with him.

Leo and Dahlia's story captured my heart. It's one of the most impressive romances I've had the pleasure of reading. The author has really elevated the playing here. She's no longer an author to watch, but is a Must Read author! If you can handle the triggers and warnings (cheating), this book is pure kindle crack and should not be missed. Recommended!!

Wow! This is my first Ella Fields book, but it won't be my last. I loved her writing, it freely flowed, yet held weighty emotion that sucked you into the story.

I don't know where to begin without giving anything away and I don't want to do that. This story MUST be experienced first hand. It's original and captivating with real, flawed and relatable characters. And I love how Ella took something so real, yet rarely acknowledged and did a phenomenal job of bringing it into the light. Are you intrigued now? I hope so!!

All I'll say is, don't make snap judgments on this one. If you've read reviews saying there is cheating and that's a hard limit for you, push through it because to not read this book would be a shame. Truly, it'll surprise you and it'll be so worth the feels, the uncertainty, and the anguish!!

Highly recommend this book!

*** This is a book that involves cheating.

Leo has closed himself off to his wife for the past 7 months. Before that, they were really happy. Dahlia tries to talk to him but he doesn’t give any answers. He acts as if she is invisible or as if there is nothing wrong with his detached attitude.

To elicit a reaction from him, she asks for a divorce and he immediately rejects the idea. Dahlia is still in love with her husband but she is also hungry for affection. She is craving intimacy with her husband but he doesn’t let her. She feels so worthless...

There is a hot guy named Jared in the shelter she goes to every Tuesday to help. Jared is doing his community service there. He is infatuated with Dahlia and he constantly flirts with her. He knows she is married with 2 children but he relentlessly pursues her.

“Jared.” I smirk down at the food. “We’ve been over this. You know I’m married.” I go back to chopping.
He sighs dramatically. “Yes, you’ve told me. Three times already.”
“So why do you keep asking me?” I can’t help it. I’m curious.
He moves in closer to my side. “Because I can smell a broken heart from a mile away, Blondie. And you”—he points a peeler at me—“reek of it.”

In order to attract her husband’s attention, Dahlia tells him that she is having an affair. He says she can do anything but they are not divorcing.

This attitude of him becomes the last straw for Dahlia and in this weak moment of hers, she gives in and becomes intimate with Jared, thinking her husband wouldn’t care. She cannot go too far .

Although she doesn’t want to take things further, when Jared shows her a lot of attention, she starts to behave more and more recklessly each time she sees him. And just she was about to have sex with Jared, !!!

Well, her thinking that Leo wouldn’t care turns out to be wrong, we learn that he truly cares!

From then on, things go crazy. She finally learns why her husband was pushing her away and closing himself and believe me that was really a shock for me. I never thought about that possibility. So, it was a good plot twist.

Now, there is a mess:
We have a wife who started cheating on her husband and was caught & a husband who pushed her away for valid reasons of his own, but causing her to look for affection elsewhere.

Although Leo had some valid reasons to be so much depressed, I believe 7 months is too long to stay silent and not share what happened to him with his wife. He should have found the courage to talk to her. Closing himself off to her was not a solution. But again, Dahlia’s cheating wasn’t justified in my eyes, either because if I were her, I would squeeze the life out of him until he told me what was going on. I wouldn’t ask and then accept his silence for 7 months. I would really fight with him - torture him relentlessly - to learn his reasons. I believe she gave up on him a little bit too easily and tried to find the happiness elsewhere. And because what she had with Jared was more sexual rather than emotional, I couldn’t accept it easily. (I may have had a harder time than the husband)

When they each learn the truth about their situation, both of them agree that they have acted in the wrong way and both of them apologize to each other for their mistakes. Since each of them loves one another too much to leave, they gradually find their way back to each other, forgiving and trying to forget about it all.

“I’m fucking furious. But just give me time because I can understand why you did it. Doesn’t mean I like it or that I think it was fair to me.”

***

“I can’t say that I’ll get over it quickly, but I love you too much not to forgive you. I need you too much to walk away.”

***

I’ll fight harder next time, love harder, and make sure he knows that whatever he’s going through, he’s not alone. That I’m not going anywhere.

This is a very realistic story. It is written really well and it makes you feel.

Life. It doesn’t always follow the rules and plans you lay out for your future. Something always happens to make you realize that while yes, you are in control, some things just can’t be predicted. And simply won’t fit into the mold of your plans or dreams but rather, will smash them to pieces and force you to rebuild. So finding a way to be happy and live despite that is what matters.

One criticism of mine is that I would really like to hear Leo’s point of view, too, but we learn everything from Dahlia’s point of view.

I don’t know if I should recommend this book or not because it is a hard story to digest. It is not for everyone... absolutely not for readers who need safety.

Here is my grading:

Hero – Leo: 3 out of 5
Heroine: 2 out of 5
OM: aka Jared, the home wrecker: 2 out of 5
Romance: 2 out of 5
Steam: 4 out of 5
Angst: 4 out of 5
Plot twist: 4 out of 5
Writing: 4 out of 5
Safety: Not safe. It includes cheating.

As you can see from the above, I couldn’t love the characters in this book. All of them chose the wrong way – all three of them!

And when I cannot love the characters, it is hard for me to rate a book more than 3 stars. I need to love the characters and I need to relate to them. As these characters couldn’t justify their actions to me, I felt a bit detached from all of them. Therefore, even though I can give it 3,5 stars, I don't feel like giving it 4...

I emphasize that the book is written very well but that was not enough for me to love it.

Recommendation:

I have read two very good books about cheating and I would advise them to anyone who is flexible on the issue of cheating in romance books. Those books were exceptional for me even though they included cheating. (FYI: In both of the following books, it is again the female who cheats – but their story is too good to miss... really... Give them a chance some time)

Absolutely a 5 star read for me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ok let me start off by saying I am not usually a big fan of cheating in books. This is because it's usually handled poorly and quickly forgiven with little thought on why it happened and what it means for the characters afterwards. Not here. Nope. This author achieved the impossible - she got me to not only overlook the cheating but to actively support the character in her choices. This is a raw, heartbreaking story with plot twists you won't see coming. I can't tell you much without ruining the story and I don't want to do that because it's rare these days an author can make me genuinely gasp while reading a book and Ella Fields managed that - more than once.
The book has beautiful dialogue, moments where the character's pain is so real you can feel it. The characters are allowed to be flawed and tell the story as it comes - with absolutely no sugar coating.
She also wrote some of the hottest sex scenes I have read this year, and really if we're honest, who doesn't want hot sex in their books.
This is definitely not your average predictable HEA Love Story but it's ABSOLUTELY a Love Story. A real, raw, beautiful love story. So I hope that readers don't let the cheating warning put them off. It's a story of what love really looks like when awful things happen, daily life gets in your way and how your actions have consequences. I definitely recommend you read this book.

3.5 - 4★'s

This is the story of Leo and Dahlia (Lia), a married couple, going through a pretty extreme rough patch. Lia's done about everything possible she can think of from asking for a divorce to claiming she was having an affair and nothing is snapping Leo out of it!

In giving an honest review, I have to say that this book was almost my very first DNF. I thought the beginning of the book really dragged and wasn't keeping my interest. I decided to keep going until we find out why Leo did what he did and then of course, I was hooked! Thank goodness!

And I really didn't like Leo at first either. He was pretty horrible but there was also something about him. You get a hankering of what his issue is but I just didn't want to believe it.

As you've probably read in other reviews, this book is about cheating...Lia does have an affair for all intents and purposes but the lines are blurred.

description

Fortunately, just as things are getting a bit heated, Leo comes to his senses and puts a stop to that nonsense. I loved the extent to which he went as well. He covered all the bases! Besides you-know-who pretty much creeped me out so there was no love loss there!

Leo and Lia's family were really sweet even though it was hard seeing the kids being affected by what was going on. Luckily, both Leo and Lia were sensitive to it and always there for them.

My heart really went out to Lia when she found out what was going on...and where! Poor thing! I think Dylan could have handled things a better even though he did take care of her a little bit.

Thankfully, she did find out because that's when things turned around. I could see how she could fall for Leo...he was so sweet and romantic. I probably would have liked him more if we had had more of this Leo in the beginning.

Still, Leo and Lia have a lot to work out. It was great how they managed to make time for each other...in a lot of interesting places! ;) But mainly, I loved how they worked out things together.

Anything with angst spice up a story and knowing this book involves cheating, it's a sure bet to be an angsty ride. To all who proceed, don't say I didn't warn you.

I've read a couple of books that involves infidelity, not that I agree with it but because it was more of a reality in life. Some gave justification as to why they cheat, and this book wasn't any different. Being completely ignored or left in the dark wasn't new to me either.

What I loved though is that the book doesn't solely focus on infidelity but rather on the picture of a family. How every actions may affects the children involved. But most especially, I loved that this was probably the only book where

description

This book stirs a lot of emotions from me, but mostly, it's anger. Mind you, not on Leo but on Lia.

Especially around 48% because after everything that is happening around the house, she decided to do something that made me boil with anger.

description

Another first for me, as I've never encountered such scenes. Good thing it didn't happen a few minutes earlier, otherwise...

description

Why I snip a star was because for the lack of character building on Jared. It was like I was told that he flirts with Lia way before. And Lia considering him as a "friend"

description

Seriously, what friend? The first time I read about them is when they have coffee...

“I can make you come so hard you’ll forget you even have a husband.”

The next and next meeting, well you know what happened. So again, what friend? And because of the lack of character building, I cannot "feel" how he came to be a "friend" rather than just a means to relieve her itch.

I get that Lola and Fiona's involvement in the story is needed. Including their husbands and kids. What I cannot understand is the need to include Taylor and Renee to the story. In my opinion, had these characters been eliminated and focused on building the "friendship" that's blossoming between Jared and Lia, everything would've been perfect.

That thing with Leo was something I didn't wouldn't see it coming. His actions then are quite understandable.

Overall, I enjoyed it. It was a real page turner since it had me reading this till 4am.

Did I liked the hero? Yes.

The heroine? Not really. Even if I tried to understand her, I still cannot.

"Life. It’s where you’ll find your true strength and find out just how much you have."

This little story wasn't too bad, it kept me interested enough to finish it. I love cheating stories done right, but this one just didn't wow me like others have done. I did enjoy Dahlia finally getting attention from that she'd craved from her husband for months, now from someone new, because her husband just kept shutting her down when she'd make advances towards him. And Jared was sweet, but he just didn't knock me off my feet in a way that made me believe he'd be worth throwing a marriage away for. That tipping point where the character is finally drawn into the extramarital affair is tricky. For me, this one just barely missed the mark. Instead of the whole, 'She couldn't stop herself from falling for him...', where the reader is just dying to see them get together-just didn't happen for me. It felt more like she was just just too horny to stop herself, not that she had actually developed feelings for him as well. The whole situation was pointless and would have been totally avoided if Leo would have just talked to Dahlia when she begged him to. The big secret reveal about Leo was kind of a let down too. Been seeing that same scenario in a lot of books lately, so I guess it didn't have that shock value it should have had.

3,8 "Only ever, always you" stars!

"Love me. Come back to me. Look at me like you used to. Touch me. Stop breaking me."

E o mais importante, mesmo distante, frio e aparentemente sem nenhum interesse em seu casamento... eu AMEI muito o Leo, muitoooo!!!!

"Don’t fucking break my heart again, Lia. I won’t survive it."

Leo ❤️❤️❤️

Frayed Silk is exceptionally well written. A love story with the unpredictability that will keep you engaged to the story. I'm actually shocked when I learned the reason why Leo became emotionally unattached to Lia, I didn't see that one coming. The angst and the tension between two people who are still madly in love to each are just too much.

Ella Fields certainly surprised me with this book, it's captivating and intriguing at the same time. Despite the warning, I was challenged to read it and glad I did. Because it's worth my time and discovered a new author to follow. This is my first book from Ms. Fields and definitely not going to be my last. Greatly recommended if you're into this kind of romance.

I will admit that I read this book because it included an atypical situation as I normally would rather clean out a sewer then read a romance book with cheating. Before reading it I initially through that the author was brave for having the heroine have sex with OM (without the heroes consent) while married to the hero. While I have read millions of romance books I have only read a handful of the books where a married heroine had sex with OM while the hero remained faithful and they stayed married.

It is funny though because I cannot add this to my list of five because while the hero remained faithful to the heroine she did not have sex with the OM. I don't get it. If the heroine is going to be a cheater then at least have her go all of the way. There are millions of books where a hero, who is married to a heroine, has sex with OW while the heroine remains faithful. So if your going to write a book that includes a heroine cheating then don't have her stop at receiving oral pleasure because if the sexes of the characters were reversed then the hero would receive the full monty as opposed to a few bjs.

This one sucked me right in and I barely put it down. It gave me all the feels of a Taylor Jenkins Reid book (where you swallow a tennis ball in the beginning and it just sits there until the end...😫) even though the writing style was much different. It broke my heart more than once. If you want angst, this one's for you!
