Six Award-Winning Authors have contributed new stories to A Timeless Romance Mail Order Bride Collection , now a USA TODAY Bestseller! Six historical romance novellas set in the Old West. In Written in Her Heart , a charming novella by Stacy Henrie, Georgeanna is getting desperate. She can’t fund her favorite orphanage unless she marries and secures the rest of her inheritance left by her father. But her father’s financial planner, Clay, can’t understand why she’s not content with her current situation. Georgie determines to send out a notice as a mail order bride to attract suitors who won’t know her financial situation. Little does she know, Clay takes up the pen and sends her letters of his own under an assumed name. After years of working for Georgie’s father, Clay realizes he isn’t ready to watch her marry another, not when his heart is already claimed by her. In Kristin Holt’s delightful novella Midwife Bride , Dr. Naomi Thornton thinks she has it a beautiful house, a loving husband, and a fulfilling career. But when everything she holds dear is ripped away, Naomi has no choice but to start over. What will she find in the wild and untamed Wyoming Territory? Dr. Joe Chandler has waited years for a wife with the knowledge, skills, and tender heart he yearns for in a medical colleague and lifetime companion. When a midwife arrives with more expertise and secrets than he counted on, Joe quickly discovers there’s more to love and marriage than a simple mail order contract. In The Sound of Home , a captivating novella by Annette Lyon, Marilyn is given the choice of either marrying the despicable Victor or being charged with a murder she didn’t commit. Refusing to believe that either is her fate, she finds a third she answers a mail order bride advertisement and boards a train to Wyoming to wed a man named Harry. Moments after her arrival, she learns that Harry isn’t who he seemed to be, and the advertisement turns out to be a giant mistake. Harry’s brother Thomas agrees to let her stay until she can figure out what to do next—after all, she simply cannot return to New York—but Marilyn quickly finds herself developing feelings for Thomas. In Sarah M. Eden’s endearing novella For Better or Worse , Gerald Smith, on the advice of his well-meaning neighbors, has decided it’s time to change his lonely existence. Mary Hill, on the advice of her empty pocketbook and non-existent roof over her head, has decided it’s time to secure herself a future. A mail-order marriage, they both realize, is no guarantee of happiness, but it is a risk they are willing to take. However, coming face to face on the train platform, the hapless couple discovers an unexpected marriage to a perfect stranger is sometimes far preferable to the prospect of a lifetime with someone you used to know. Heather B. Moore’s sweet novella The Inconvenient Bride sees Carmela traveling from Boston to Colorado, eager to meet the man she’s been corresponding with and will soon marry. Her brother’s new marriage leaves little room for Carmela in her old life. Upon arrival in Leadville, she faces a rude awakening, and the only one who can understand her predicament is her fiance’s brother, Samuel. But Samuel can’t possibly help her out of an awkward situation, can he? The Price of Silver , an engaging novella by Siân Ann Bessey, Katie leaves New York for Idaho to marry Jake, a man she’s written to a couple of times. But when she steps off the train, his brother Caleb is there to greet her. Jake has gone to take a mining job he couldn’t pass up. Caleb takes Katie back to the family ranch to wait for Jake’s return. The more Caleb gets to know Katie, the more he envies his brother, but he can’t let his heart overrule his head unless Jake changes his mind about his intended bride.

Not bad for when you want a quick, sweet romance fix! This is a curious sub-genre of the marriage-of-convenience romance genre: the mail order brides.
description
Here we have 6 novelettes, about 40 or 50 pages each. It was on sale for 99 cents, so I snagged it and downed them all last night, like so much candy. I couldn't stop. It was addictive stuff. Even though logically it's all kinds of silliness, and pretty superficial, it's also fun.

These stories all take place about a hundred years ago, in an Old West setting. Interestingly, a couple of the stories have the would-be bride coming out for one guy and ending up with someone else. One woman is a doctor who's gotten all kinds of grief for being in a man's field, which has had an effect on her psychologically. A couple of the women are running from criminal accusations (they're innocent, of course). One couple even realizes that they already knew each other as teenagers -- and it was not a great relationship back then.

Several times I ended the story with the strong feeling that it needed to be just a little longer; the endings felt rushed. But I still would recommend them for a quick, cute and fluffy romance read.

3.5 stars, rounding up.

For a collection of stories with such a specific theme, I was amazed by how individual and unique each plot is! What they had in common is well-developed characters, a vibrant setting, an unexpected twist on the theme, sweet romance, and a satisfying conclusion. In a novella collection usually just two or three stories stand out as my favorites, but I can honestly say that I absolutely enjoyed each of these stories equally. I loved reading about the uncertainty and anxiety of each situation that leads at least one member of the couple to take desperate measures to hopefully improve their circumstances. The blind faith it would take to be willing to make a life with someone you barely know astounds me, but loneliness, the desire for love, protection or just companionship compels the characters to move forward and trust that there is the potential for a better life waiting as long as they can work for it. The romantic moments were built up to which made me want to savor them. This is one of my favorite Timeless Romance collections and I highly recommend it!

This has been nominated for a 2016 Swoony Award. Share the love and vote for it here.

I think it would be terrifying to be a mail order bride in real life, but I love the concept in novels. I was really excited when I heard the Timeless Anthology group was planning on doing a MOB collection and marked my calendar for its release. I was thoroughly charmed with these stories and characters. I’m always impressed with how you can give six different authors the same idea, mail order brides, and come up with six completely unique stories. A great addition to the Timeless Romance Anthology collection.

I always love these anthologies because I get a similar theme with a taste of six different authors, which makes for a lot of enjoyable reading sessions. Each story can be read in a sitting, allowing for a snippet here and there, or all together. Sometimes when I read similar types of stories, I get tired of them, but these are just the right length and the right amount of stories in each collection.

There is NO way I would ever be a mail order bride. Okay, so I'd have to be very desperate to do it. There are too many risks involved, as some of these women found themselves sent for by men who weren't competent, left town before she arrives, died, or other various things. These men left to pick up the pieces are all great men and true gentlemen, if a little rough around the edges, but there are men out there, as seen in some of the stories, who are downright scary! That said, I do love the idea of being "forced" into a relationship and finding the adding bonus of falling in love, which makes me think of the quote, "Choose your love; love your choice."

It's so hard to choose a favorite story! I love how each story plays out, leaving me to swoon at the romance, cheer for the couples, and enjoy the descriptive settings, as they all take place in the wild west. This collection is on my favorites list!

Content: some have a few non-graphic moments of peril and/or violence; mild romance (kissing). Clean!

This was a very good collection of mail order bride novellas. I enjoyed each and every novella in the collection. All of the authors did a great job of writing stories that allowed me to connect with the characters in a short amount of time. The only thing I felt was missing was that when each novella ended, I wished that there was an epilogue to each story, allowing me to look six months to a year into the future with each of these couples. I would have really enjoyed seeing what was going on in their lives and it would have made the endings more fulfilling for me.

I listened to the audio version and the narration was well done for each story.

Mail Order Bride Collection
Six novellas written by different authors, all new to me...

WRITTEN IN HER HEART by Stacie Henrie
Georgie, a 22 year old heiress wanted to marry someone who didn’t know of her wealth so she wrote an ad to find a husband. Her father's business manager was given the dubious task of going through the replies for the best ones, a task harder for him than he had believed.

Sweet story albeit a bit predictable and a bit eye-rolly. 3.5 stars

WANTED: MIDWIFE BRIDE, by Kristin Holt

Dr. Naomi Thornton (aka Ernie Fairchild) replied to an ad for a midwife/bride for Doc Joe in Evanston, Illinois. Her big city life and familiy's hospital a thing of the past as her husband implicated her in a crime in order to attain all she had and gain his freedom.

Much of this story was good, but I had a major issue with the fact that these two people married with a doubt in their minds as to whether or not her divorce was final. Doc Joe just said their vows to each other were all that mattered. What?? Oh, that dropped this to 2 stars.

THE SOUND OF HOME, by Annette Lyon

Marilyn declined vile, arrogant Victor Meadow's proposal, who in return claimed he would accuse her of poisoning a recently deceased friend.
Escaping the city was possible when she responded to an ad for a bride. Little did she know, it was a feeble minded man who used his brother's savings to bring a woman into their farmhouse to be their mother.
Cute story. 4 stars

FOR BETTER IR WORSE, by Sarah M. Eden

Mary's living situation was bleak, so she answered an ad for a wife. Gerald needed a helper at his homestead so he sought a mail order bride. The problem when Mary arrived was they knew each other, and what they remembered wasn’t great. Making the best of this situation was not going to be easy.

Plausible and satisfying. 4 stars

THE INCONVENIENT BRIDE, by Heather B. Moore

Carmela needed to leave her brother's home now that he was getting married. After writing letters to a man in Colorado, she decided to marry him. However when she gets there her intended is dead and his brother is shocked.
Samuel had never been around such a beautiful Italian woman. He felt obligated to help her while she waited for the next train, and a few days can make a world of difference.
Of all the stories I think I liked these characters the most. 4 stars!

THE PRICE OF SILVER, by Siân Ann Bessey
This story was slightly similar to the previous story except the hero’s brother was not dead, just took off on a mining job. A furious Caleb meets Katie at the station. He takes her to his mother's cabin to wait for Jake's return in a few months. But the anger Caleb felt melted as he sees for himself what a perfect fit Katie makes in his own life.

Really good one. Loved the integrity Caleb had to not act on his feelings. 5 stars

This was an audiobook apparently read by the same woman, however, by the last one her reading was less halting and, at least for me, much more enjoyable.

"'Once you get me started, I may not stop,' he warned."
" 'I won't be bored, I promise,' she said."

Mail Order Bride Collection (2015, Mirror Press), sixteenth in the multi-author Timeless Romance Anthology series, is a collection of six historical romance set in the Old west. I wanted to read this collection because I always enjoy these Timeless books.

Rating: 4.8 stars
Narration: 5 stars

------------------------------------------------

Written in her Heart by Stacy Henrie: 5 stars

From the blurb: "...Georgeanna… can’t fund her favorite orphanage unless she marries and secures the rest of her inheritance left by her father. But her father’s financial planner, Clay, can't understand why she's not content with her current situation. Georgie determines to send out a notice as a mail order bride to attract suitors who won’t know her financial situation. Little does she know, Clay takes up the pen and sends her letters of his own under an assumed name..."

The unfolding of this story felt very natural, and the writing itself was very good. It's a dual timeline story, which I don't usually favor, but I thought it worked well.

------------------------------------------------

Wanted: Midwife Bride by Kristin Holt: 5 stars

From the blurb: "...Dr. Naomi Thornton thinks she has it all… But when everything she holds dear is ripped away, Naomi has no choice but to start over. What will she find in the wild and untamed Wyoming Territory? Dr. Joe Chandler has waited years for a wife with the knowledge, skills, and tender heart he yearns for in a medical colleague and lifetime companion... "

This was my first read by Kristin Holt, and I look forward to reading another of her works. I really liked both protagonists, and tend to enjoy stories with a doctor as a main character. This one has two!

------------------------------------------------

The Sound of Home by Annette Lyon: 4.5 stars

From the blurb: "Marilyn is given the choice of either marrying the despicable Victor or being charged with a murder she didn’t commit. Refusing to believe that either is her fate, she finds a third option: she answers a mail order bride advertisement and boards a train to Wyoming to wed a man named Harry..."

The hero of the story is too attracted to Marilyn too soon. And they both fall in love within a day, but that's something I just can't buy, no matter how great the day! Otherwise, I thought it was a lovely story.

------------------------------------------------

For Better or Worse by Sarah M. Eden: 5 stars

"What I want and what is possible are no longer the same thing."

From the blurb: "Gerald Smith, on the advice of his well-meaning neighbors… [and] Mary Hill, on the advice of her empty pocketbook and non-existent roof over her head... [have] decided it’s time to [get married by way of]... a mail-order marriage… However, coming face to face on the train platform, the hapless couple discovers an unexpected truth: marriage to a perfect stranger is sometimes far preferable to the prospect of a lifetime with someone you used to know. "

The beginning of this one grabbed my attention.
The middle of this one grabbed my attention. What a great premise!
The ending went in a different direction that it appeared it would, which I appreciated.
Loved this one!
------------------------------------------------

The Inconvenient Bride by Heather B. Moore: 5 stars

"Carmella… couldn't ever remember speaking to a man like Samuel, who actually seemed to listen to every word she said."

From the blurb: "Carmela [is] traveling from Boston to Colorado, eager to meet the man she’s been corresponding with and will soon marry. Her brother’s new marriage leaves little room for Carmela... Upon arrival in Leadville, she faces a rude awakening, and the only one who can understand her predicament is her fiance’s brother, Samuel."

Carmela and Samuel are both very likable characters. All the stars! Very enjoyable.

------------------------------------------------

The Price of Silver by Siân Ann Bessey: 5 stars

From the blurb: "Katie leaves New York for Idaho to marry Jake, a man she’s written to a couple of times. But when she steps off the train, his brother Caleb is there to greet her. Jake has gone to take a mining job he couldn’t pass up. Caleb takes Katie back to the family ranch to wait for Jake’s return... "

I could see this story failing - in my book at least - really easily. But Ms. Bessey pulls it off. I really enjoyed this one. All the stars.

------------------------------------------------

Is it clean/chaste? Yes. Timeless Romance collections are consistently chaste.

***********

The bottom line: Six wonderful historical novellas with mail-order brides. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys clean historical romances - and doesn't have a disdain for novellas. I look forward to reading more in this collection and hope more of them become audio books.

A Timeless Romance Anthology
Mail Order Bride
Six Historical Romance Novellas
Stacy Henrie
Kristin Holt
Annette Lyon
Sarah M. Eden
Heather B. Moore
Sian Ann Bessey

This anthology is set in the West and brings intrigue and history to the occasion of the mail order brides. This is the first one I’ve read and I was pleasantly surprised to learn there are many more out there to gobble up! I believe this one was number 16.
Well written with a wonderful variety of writers, you will find yourself drawn in and wanting to read more! As each bride has her own needs as well as the grooms, each story in this anthology brings these to light and gives you hope and compassion for these fictional characters. These clean romances leave the intimate times to your imagination. They are full of growing love and the mystery and suspense the heart yearns for in a romance book. Remember the delicacy of your first kiss and take a ride with me on the adventure of being a mail order bride!
I wrote this sincere review on the request of one of the authors and I received an advance copy of this anthology. I jumped at the chance to review it am so glad I did! I hope you enjoy these sweet novellas as well! ~ Cindy Nipper

Written in Her Heart by Stacy Henrie

A twist on the concept of a mail order bride; this woman seeks a mail order husband!
Filled with excitement from the beginning, Stacy continues to keep you on your toes with a nice twist in the middle AND the end. There are many chapters where Stacy explains the history of the situation almost like a remembered dream. I love how she not only adds the year but the time lapse so you don’t have to turn back a chapter to figure out what’s going on. (I wish more authors did this!) I thoroughly enjoyed this short read and I was able to finish it within an hour or so. Just like the characters, my own heart pulsed in the right spots as I anticipated what the answer would be. I recommend this book and I look forward to reading more by Stacy Henrie.

WANTED: Midwife Bride by Kristin Holt

Intrigued from the first lines of the story, this is NOT your ordinary traditional mail order bride book!
This one speaks of the women who break the mold of the traditional wife. Naomi is a doctor, a true surgeon, a daughter of a wealthy man. She is also a married woman. She is scorned by her husband who seeks to belittle her and find his pleasures outside of the marriage bed.
This book speaks of divorce. While a common subject in today’s society, it was a rare and frowned upon reality of the 1800’s. Men held all the cards, the power, the prestige.
Seeking refuge from all her husband plans to ruin her career and absorb her inheritance, Naomi flees New York to accept an offer to marry a small country doctor in Wyoming Territory.
I loved everything about this book. It speaks to the hardships women faced, and makes me appreciate more so, the equality we now have. It also speaks to the men who love these brave women and treat them with true respect and admiration. Dr. Joe is a hero in all aspects. He not only provides a job and family for Naomi but also gives her equality in the marriage and the medical practice. I highly recommend this book to those who love Westerns, Mail Order Brides, American History, Women’s Suffrage, and Clean Romance. I can’t wait to read more books by Kristin Holt!

The Sound of Home by Annette Lyon
Oohh! I really love these stories! Each one is so different from each other and so different from the mail order bride books I’ve previously read! Harry has the mental capacity of a 10 year old. Sweet as the day is long, the bride to be was ordered by Harry to be his new “Mother”. Will Marilyn stay to take care of and love Harry as her child instead of her husband? Will she return back East to face the falsified claims of the evil man who will have her thrown in jail if she refuses to marry him? You’ve got to read this story to find the answer! Annette Lyon, I hope this book has a sequel! Maybe the spinster Miss Faye will find the perfect husband!

For Better or Worse by Sarah M. Eden

Mary and Gerald are matched up through a normal mail order bride arrangement, but the shock is, as soon as they meet on the station, they realize they know each other from being neighbors four years earlier! She was a thorn in his side then, what will happen now!
I enjoyed this quick read and was captivated by the “what ifs” and “what nows”! Come enjoy this novella and the rest in this wonderful collection of authors!

An Inconvenient Bride by Heather B. Moore

A gentle romance in a rough Western town! Carmela is intended for Samuel’s recently deceased brother. Samuel feels obligated to assist her for a few days, until she can return to Boston and the home of her newly married brother. This story moves rather quickly and is a little bit more predictable than the other novellas in this book. Yet, very entertaining and full of beautiful descriptions that pull you in. I think I’ll look up a recipe for Apple Tarts now!

The Price of Silver by Sian Ann Bessey

What a great way to complete this anthology! Caleb is always fixing his brother’s mistakes and this time is no different. He has to pick up his brother’s bride and bring her home to his mother while his brother is off looking for riches in a silver mine! With no word from his unorthodox brother, Caleb finds himself falling in love with the woman engaged to his brother! How can he betray his brother or his own heart! I recommend this book and hope you take the time to find out how this crazy sitcom ends!

Mail Order Brides is a historical fiction romance anthology. I wanted to read it because the concept of mail order brides was entirely new to me. I was interested in seeing what could come of it, and the creativity really astounded me. With the same concept these authors managed to make each short story unique. I just loved reading them all. I have a mini review for each.

Written in Her Heart: As an opening short story I wanted this one to grip me immediately. And it did. It was sweet and cute. It had coloured characters even though this was a short story, a brilliant writing style and even used flashbacks. I really loved the romance as well.

Wanted: Midwife Bride: This one showed me that men can be so cruel. I can't believe the way one of them tried to take advantage of a smart woman just because she was smart. I really liked Naomi. She had ambition, a clever, down to earth mind and was sensible. She had trust issues after being hurt the way she was, and that made sense. There was a touch of insta-affection/love, but this is a collection of historical fiction romance short stories. It's makes sense for that to happen, and I'll excuse it a bit in all of these short stories.

The Sound of Home: This book brought another cruel man. It also dealt with the issue of illness and loss. I liked how Marilyn wasn't afraid of hard work and was willing to put elbow grease into what she was doing.

For Better or Worse: I loved the situation that these main characters found themselves in. Imagine sending for a mail order bride, only for her to turn out to be a girl you strongly disliked from your childhood. It was the enemies to lover kind of thing that I have not seen in historical fiction before. And I liked it!

An Inconvenient Bride: This was a story where the original husband for the mail order bride passed away before she could arrive there. Carmela is Italian and I liked hearing a little bit about Italy from her point of view. Not much to say about this one, but the characters had chemistry.

The Price of Silver: This was a sweet one to wrap up the collection, but it went a bit too fast for me. Of them all, this was the one I felt the instalove most present in. It was short and sweet though.

I loved this collection and if I have less to say about a short story, doesn't mean it was worse! I will definitely be looking into works by all these authors so I can try their independent books as well.

This is a collection of six short stories, all featuring mail order brides. These novellas are fun because you can read one in a very short amount of time, and still get romance and a happy ending. However, because these stories are short, and they have to introduce to characters, have the characters fall in love, and have a happy ending all within a relatively few pages, there is a lot of insta-love going on. So if it annoys you when people fall in love really quickly, just be warned that this does happen in these anthologies.

Because I do have a hard time relating to falling in love within a few hours or a few days, my favorite stories in this collection were the ones where the brides already knew their intended grooms. My favorite story was by Sarah M. Eden. She had such a fun idea of having a mail order bride who shows up to meet the groom and they realize that they both know each other and the groom can't stand his bride-to-be. He didn't like her four years ago and he is sure he doesn't like her now. So will he marry her? It made for a fun story line. I also liked the story by Stacy Henrie. Here our girl is applying to be a mail order bride but her friend who is helping her realizes that he has strong feelings for her and doesn't want to lose her. So will she end up as a mail order bride or marry her longtime friend and childhood crush?

These six novellas are well-written and fun for the romantic who enjoys clean romance (no sex) with happy endings.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

A delightful collection of six historical Mail Order Bride novellas’, they are quick reads and each can be read in a single sitting.
All of the brides have fallen on unfortunate circumstances, and for some they have been accused of terrible crimes, and others arrive to find things are not what they expected to find.
I can’t imagine traveling a long way from where I live to a very unknown place, knowing no one, and end up marrying someone I have never met. Although, at least one of the stories end up with people who have met before, and another that yes they have met, but don’t see what is right under the noses. In other stories when the bride arrives, the groom is nowhere to be seen, will they wait for him to return?
These are quick and interesting stories that will keep you page turning, and moving right on to the next. Enjoy!
I received this book through I Am A Reader, Not A Writer, and was not required to give a positive review.

WRITTEN IN HER HEART - Georgie has given up on the man she loves, Clay, ever loving her. She's decided to become a mail order bride, with Clay's help. Clay, however, doesn't know how he feels about that... A sweet, yet fairly predicatble novella, with a little bit of "You've Got Mail" mixed it. 4 stars

WANTED: MIDWIFE BRIDE - Naomi is a skilled surgeon is ousted from her successful career by jealous men and a cheating husband, when they accuse her of murdering the mayor- a man she's never met. Doc Joe is in need of a midwife/wife. There is an immediate attraction between Naomi and Joe. The only problem when Naomi answers Doc Joe's ad is she isn't sure if her marriage is legally over. Sweet story with some action. I found myself crushing on Joe a little bit... 4 stars

THE SOUND OF HOME - Harry is a man with the mental capabilities of a 10 year old child. He placed an add for a mail order bride- thinking it meant a married woman would come to be a mother for him. Marilyn answered the ad thinking she would be a bride to a man. Should she stay and be a mother figure to Harry or return back home where she is being blackmailed into an unwanted marriage?? I know it sounds like a weird premise, but it's actually a sweet story with a few twists. 3.5 stars

FOR BETTER OR WORSE - Gerald can't believe that when his mail order bride arrives, his "Miss Hill" is Mary Hill from his hometown. She drove him crazy then, so of course she'll drive him crazy now, right?? I love Sarah M. Eden, and she didn't disappoint with this novella. 4 stars

AN INCONVENIENT BRIDE - When a mail order bride shows up to wed Samuel's recently deceased "heathen" brother, he isn't quite sure what to do. Carmela has no where else to go and she's a widow before she was even a bride. I really enjoyed this story. It was somewhat predicatable, but moved along quickly and was fun to read! 4 stars

THE PRICE OF SILVER - This one was a little similar to some of the others, in that the groom wasn't there when the mail order bride arrived. Katie has come expecting to marry Jake. However, Jake has left town to work in a silver mine, a left behind his mom and brother Caleb. Jake sends money for Katie to go back to her hometown, unless there's a reason to stay behind... This was a quick moving, sweet love story. 4 stars

I absolutely LOVE stories about mail order brides! I would have never wanted to be one, though, since the idea is pretty scary. These six authors delivered a fabulous book!

Generally when I read these anthologies, there's one story that I enjoy above the rest. However, I loved each and every story! There's one where a woman applies to be a mail order bride and the guy who works for her secretly starts writing her to win her affection. There were plenty of mix-ups, too, where the men weren't planning to get married but found themselves attracted to the women who showed up to marry their brothers. In one of them, there was the added element that the mail order bride knew both brothers. One had left town so she was stuck with the one she didn't have a great relationship with. They got a second chance to figure things out.

Most of the women were leaving behind a life they didn't want to return to and were lucky that they wound up with great men to get to know better. What I love the most about this series is that the stories are always clean and I can recommend them to anyone. This is the perfect read if you want to escape to the 1800's and the time of the mail order bride!

I received a copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.

Another great anthology collection of six short stories!

I loved the twists some of these authors put on the mail order brides. One "bride" doesn't realize that the man she is writing is actually her co-worker who realizes he loves her and doesn't want her to marry a stranger. Another "bride" escapes a terrible marriage and answers an ad by a doctor advertising for a bride who is also a midwife; they both get so much more than they bargained for! Another "bride" shows up only to discover the man who sent for her was someone she knew, and four years ago they didn't part on good terms! So we got a second chance story and a mail order bride story all rolled into one!

Romance, Clean.
This was another clean, sweet romance collection. The romances were between honest, hard-working characters. It was fun to see how the honest and sincere interactions led to the growing affection in each of the novellas that was beautiful to read.

MAIL ORDER BRIDE was another enjoyably sweet, heartfelt, and quick read. With six novellas that were easily read over a day or two, great characters, swoon-worthy moments, emotional and romantic tension, and happily-ever-after endings, this was another fabulous addition to this line of books! Definitely recommend for those who have enjoyed the other titles in this series or read sweet historical romance.

WRITTEN IN HER HEART by Stacy Henrie: This was a fun story! I liked both characters and how the plot was a little like a historical remake of the 1998 movie, You've Got Mail. I wasn't quite sure how I felt about Clay deceiving Georgie and both of their internal dialogues could have been shortened, but otherwise an endearing story.

WANTED: MIDWIFE BRIDE by Kristin Holt. The beginning of this story had me riled right up. Thank goodness things worked themselves out! I loved the first time Doc Joe meets his mail-order bride and the way that so much emotion was conveyed over a few pages. Some of the endearments and inner thoughts were a little long, but still a very sweet and lovely story.

THE SOUND OF HOME by Annette Lyon: This was such a heartwarming story! I loved how Harry plays his role in both getting Marilyn there and in keeping her there. Their interactions were sweet. Add to that a man who falls in love not because of Marilyn's looks, but because he feels a little bit responsible and then loves who she shows herself to be, and you have one very sweet story. Enjoyable from beginning to end.

FOR BETTER OR WORSE by Sarah M. Eden: This story was so fun! I loved the dialogue, the nice twist that really livened things up, the characters, and the heartfelt story that practically had me in tears at the end. Sarah is a master at pulling emotions from a reader. A favorite from this set.

THE INCONVENIENT BRIDE by Heather B. Moore: This was another enjoyable story with a little passion and a few swoon-worthy moments. I really liked both of the main characters and how they were both strong and different, but fit together so well. There was some nice tension and it was an overall sweet story.

THE PRICE OF SILVER by Siân Ann Bessey: Loved, loved, loved this story! Definitely my favorite of the set. It was full of a hard-working, caring, and charming cowboy, his dear and kind mother, and a sweet and endearing lady. Katie came with nothing in answer to a mail-order bride advertisement and finds that the brother who sent for her isn't the one she ends up caring about. I loved the dialogue, the plot, and the romance. So much told in so few pages and it was perfect! It left me with a content sigh and smile on my lips.

I enjoyed all the stories from this collection, although it was worth reading for The Price of Silver and For Better or Worse alone. Those stories made this series for me. I'm looking forward to the next collection and more sweet stories.

Overall this was an enjoyable collection of novellas. My favorite was the last one.

Written In Her Heart by Stacy Henrie-3 stars

Georgie has loved Clay for years but Clay has not returned the feelings. Georgie decided to become a mail order bride and Clay realizes he doesn't want Georgie to marry someone else. This was a cute story. I liked it and the characters.

Wanted: Midwife Bride by Kristin Holt-4 stars

Doctor Naomi Thornton leaves her home under a cloud of suspicion in the death of the town mayor. Her husband plans to divorce her so she answers an add and becomes a mail order bride to a doctor. I really enjoyed this story. They fell in love fast but it felt believable.

The Sound of Home by Annette Lyon-3 stars

Marilyn answers an add to be a mail order bride to escape a man she despises. I liked this story and the characters. The falling in love happened in one day which was too fast to feel real.

For Better or Worse by Sarah M. Eden-4 stars

Mary agrees to be George's mail order bride without realizing he is the Mr. Smith she knew when she was 15. He did not like her then and is not happy to see her now. I liked this story. Mary and George are likeable characters. I was happy they didn't immediately fall in love, some time passes during this story.

An Inconvenient Bride by Heather B. Moore-4 stars

Carmela heads west to become Gideon Butler's mail order bride. When, she arrives his brother Samuel informs her he has died. Carmela and Samuel fall in love. I enjoyed this story. I liked Carmela and Samuel.

The Price of Silver by Sian Ann Bessey-5 stars

Katie agrees to be Jake Walker's mail order bride but when she arrives she finds he has left to try his luck at mining. His brother, Caleb takes her back to their ranch where they live with their mother and await Jake's return. In the meantime, Katie and Caleb fall in love. This was my favorite in this collection. I liked Katie, Caleb and Elisa. I appreciated that their story took place over a longer period of time. They were attracted to each other immediately but it was not instant love.

A difficult anthology to rate. I know those were all short stories, so slightly different rules apply but in general, I did not find much to enjoy here.

1. Written in Her Heart - I did not get through this one; it did not hold my interest.
2. WANTED: Midwife Bride - same here, except this was because a bad case of insta-love and a truly Wagnerian intensity of feelings almost from start to finish.
3. The Sound of Home - same again. I do not remember much from this story.
4. An Inconvenient Bride - this story was tolerable (at least interesting enough to tempt me ;)). 2.5 stars, I would say.
5. The Price of Silver - and this was the highlight for me; the only story I really enjoyed and even read twice. Definitely 4 stars, maybe 4.5.

I do not regret buying the collection, if only for the sake of the last story, but I do not think I will try other anthologies in the series.

This collection contains six novellas about mail order brides. I loved that they were all about mail order brides that didn't go according to plan.

Every story had a responsible man who stepped up and rescued a bride from her circumstances. My favorite story was the first in the collection, Written in Her Heart. The man who won her heart years ago realizes all that he has to loose when she advertises as a mail order bride. I think it was my favorite because the characters had known each other for a long time.

All of the stories are sweet. I liked all of the main characters. Every story has a great ending. This is a great addition to the Timeless Romance Anthologies. I will keep looking forward to new additions and adding them to my reading list.

These stories were fantastic. The first seems very like Emma and Mr. Knightly. I love the second, fourth, and sixth stories the most. Each of these is a fresh, fun take on mail-order brides (and none play out like you'd think!).

Review & GIVEAWAY on my blog! http://smilingbookreviews.blogspot.co...

WRITTEN IN HER HEART, a charming novella by Stacy Henrie. Georgeanna is getting desperate. She can’t fund her favorite orphanage unless she marries and secures the rest of her inheritance left by her father. But her father’s financial planner, Clay, can't understand why she's not content with her current situation. Georgie determines to send out a notice as a mail order bride to attract suitors who won’t know her financial situation. Little does she know, Clay takes up the pen and sends her letters of his own under an assumed name. After years of working for Georgie’s father, Clay realizes he isn’t ready to watch her marry another, not when his heart is already claimed by her.

I enjoyed this sweet romance. Georgeanna has loved Clay since she was a girl but has hidden those feelings deep in her heart when Clay didn't love her back. Now she's determined to find a husband who can help her fulfill her dreams. When this mail order bride business shocks Clay into realizing his feelings, he determines to try to win her heart through letters. I enjoyed Georgeanna and Clay's interactions and the sweet conclusion to their story.

In Kristin Holt’s delightful novella WANTED: MIDWIFE BRIDE Dr. Naomi Thornton thinks she has it all: a beautiful house, a loving husband, and a fulfilling career.

This unconventional story is about a lady doctor who has to flee her husband, her house, and her hard won career when faced with a dangerous accusation. When she answers Dr. Joe's advertisement, there is an immediate attraction between them. When Dr. Naomi's past catches up to them, will she leave Dr. Joe? I enjoyed this short but intense romance novella.

In THE SOUND OF HOME, a captivating novella by Annette Lyon, Marilyn is given the choice of either marrying the despicable Victor or being charged with a murder she didn’t commit. Refusing to believe that either is her fate, she finds a third option: she answers a mail order bride advertisement and boards a train to Wyoming to wed a man named Harry.

I really enjoyed this sweet novella about a lady who escapes a dangerous situation only to find herself in another pickle when the advertised groom is not who he seemed to be. I loved Marilyn's interaction with Harry and how sweet and caring she was. Can she win Thomas' heart or will she have to return New York? Another sweet romance with a happy ending.

In Sarah M. Eden’s endearing novella FOR BETTER OR WORSE Gerald Smith, on the advice of his well-meaning neighbors, has decided it’s time to change his lonely existence. Mary Hill, on the advice of her empty pocketbook and non-existent roof over her head, has decided it’s time to secure herself a future. A mail-order marriage, they both realize, is no guarantee of happiness, but it is a risk they are willing to take. However, coming face to face on the train platform, the hapless couple discovers an unexpected truth: marriage to a perfect stranger is sometimes far preferable to the prospect of a lifetime with someone you used to know.

I loved this fun story about two people who arrange a mail-order marriage only to realize when they meet that they already know each other. Mary has her reasons for the way she acted years ago but all Gerald knows and remembers is how annoying she was. Can they forget the past and learn to love each other? A sweet endearing novella about finding love unexpectedly.

It would be better for all if she returns immediately to Boston and pretends she never traveled to Colorado in the first place.

Another sweet novella about a mail-order bride who finds herself in a predicament when her fiance is not who she thought he was. Can and will his brother help her out and will he fall under the charm of this sweet lady from Colorado? Loved the chemistry between these two and as always, loved the happy ending.

THE PRICE OF SILVER, an engaging novella by Siân Ann Bessey, Katie leaves New York for Idaho to marry Jake, a man she’s written to a couple of times.

I really liked this engaging novella. When Katie arrives in Idaho, her fiance has left for a mining job. I liked that in this story there was a mother involved who takes Katie in and makes her a part of the family right away. And when sparks start to fly between Caleb and Katie, they have to decide if they will follow their hearts. Another sweet, romantic mail-order bride story!

Welcome to the eighteen hundreds/turn of the century, when being a mail order bride was sometimes the only option for a respectable single lady with nowhere to go or no one to turn to. The other option was to be an unrespectable lady.

Each of the six stories is told with its own charm and voice. All the heroines head west for a fresh start with a stranger. What they end up with a man who captures her heart. The fun of each story is in the details.

Clean, wholesome, romantic, and utterly enjoyable.

I'd love to see these authors cook up a reverse romance series where the hero is a mail order groom!

The Mail Order Brides Review
Another high quality anthology. Can’t wait for the next one! Please keep them coming.

Written in Her Heart by Stacy Henrie—4 out of 5 stars; California, 1884
Clayton Riley (Clay) cannot figure out why he is so upset when his employer and closest friend, Georgeanna Fitzgerald (Georgie), requests his help to place an advertisement to be a mail order bride. When he reads the four responses to the ads, he finally recognizes that he has been in love with her for a long time and has to decide what he will do. Clever use of both alternating between the current happenings and the history between them, as well as alternating the point of view from which the story is told.

Wanted: Midwife Bride by Kristin Holt—3 out of 5 stars; NYC and Wyoming, 1888
Dr. Naomi Thornton is falsely accused of wrongdoing by her two-timing husband, who seeks a divorce. To get a fresh start, Naomi responds to Doc Joe Chandler’s ad for a midwife bride and takes her chances joining him Wyoming. Although Doc Joe and Naomi fall in love, each constantly worries about all the reasons they will lose the other, almost to the point of paranoia. A clever premise, but more interaction between the main characters and less self-questioning would have made this a better read.

The Sound of Home by Annette Lyon—3.5 out of 5 stars; NYC and Wyoming 1887
Harry Yardley, a man whose head injury left him thinking like a 10 year old child, wanted a married woman, a wife, to come and take care of him and his brother on their farm in Wyoming, so he advertises for a mail order bride in a New York City newspaper. In response to the ad, Marilyn Davis comes to Wyoming to escape a vile man who threatens to have her arrested for a murder she did not commit if she refuses to marry him. Harry’s brother, Thomas, learns belatedly about the ad and greets Marilyn at the train station to tell her that a mistake was made. Now they have to decide what Marilyn should do. The character building of likeable people in a short story makes this enjoyable to read.

For Better or Worse by Sarah M. Eden—4 out of 5 stars; Nebraska and Colorado, 1879
What are the chances? When Miss Hill of Nebraska responded to the mail order bride ad from Mr. Smith of Colorado, she expected marriage to a stranger would bring her a better life than where she was headed so far. Although Gerald Smith thought loneliness was worse than being married to a stranger, he was surprised to find he was wrong—it could be worse. His bride turned out to be none other than his old under-foot pesky neighbor from Ohio, Mary Hill. Although an incredulous premise, it is certainly within the realm of possibility and makes for a thoroughly enjoyable story.

An Inconvenient Bride by Heather B. Moore—3 out of 5 stars; Boston, MA and Leadville, CO, 1885
Carmela Domeneca Rosalia Callemi, Italian immigrant in Boston, needed to move out of her brother’s household when he decided to marry a woman she could not get along with. In response to a mail order bride ad, she corresponds with Gideon Butler and decides that he is the upstanding, educated type of man she could marry and maybe even fall in love with. But when she arrives in Colorado, she learns from Gideon’s brother, Samuel, that Gideon was a law-breaking sot who was killed two days earlier in a drunken brawl. As she gets to know Samuel, she sees that he is the man with the integrity that she was looking for. For some reason that I cannot put my finger on, I just could not feel the spark between the two main characters, making the relationship seem a bit contrived and rushed.

The Price of Silver by Siân Ann Bessey—3.5 out of 5 stars; Idaho, 1880
What happens when letters cross in the mail between a mail order bride and the groom who placed the ad? In this case, Katie Spencer arrives in Idaho to marry Jake Walker only to find out that he left town to try his luck at a silver mine. Jake’s brother and mother, Caleb and Eliza, provide Katie a warm home at their ranch while they wait to hear from Jake. As Caleb’s and Katie’s feelings grow for each other, both dread learning Jake’s response.

This is the 3rd story in this anthology about a mail order bride responding to an ad for one brother, but falling in love with the other. A bit more variation on the mail order bride theme would have made the collection as a whole even better.

Note: Since the stories all took place around the same period of time in smaller western towns, the stories could have been threaded together by setting all the stories in one town with characters from other stories appearing in each. For example, Dr. Joe Hutchins’ success with a mail order bride mentioned in The Sound of Home could have been Doc Joe from Wanted: Midwife Bride. Or the people that main characters met on train rides could have been from other stories. Other character types that crossed stories, such as the helpful neighbor in town, or the boarding house owner, could have also been used.

I love all the “A Timeless Romance Anthology” collections. In fact any title published from Mirror Press has an instant place on my to be read and purchased shelf. In the world of secular romance it is hard to find clean romances. I always know any secular romance title from Mirror Press will have a clean sensuality level that still has a romance that has sparks that will have me turning the pages when I am not reluctantly taking a break. Titles that exercise the mind and heart and yet have endings that make me swoon and squeal like an adolescent girl at a boy band concert. I was especially excited when I heard news they were doing an anthology about 19th century mail order brides as I was a 21rst version of an “e-mail” order bride instead, whom found her husband who lived 1000 miles away through an online matchmaking site.

Even though I successfully and safely met my hero that way, I can’t imagine risking being a 19th century mail order bride. One of the things I like about the “A Timeless Romance Anthology” collections is that I get to discover new authors to look up. Kristen Holt the author of WANTED: A MIDWIFE BRIDE in this anthology did 14 posts on Mail Order Brides on her author blog that was 12 parts the perils of things that could go wrong. That was what made this anthology of mail order bride romances refreshing from other typical mail order bride trope stories, was the 6 different authors’ historically accurate inclusion of oops things that could go wrong and then the suspense of how things are going to resolve themselves for these vulnerable women. In two of them the brides were unknowingly writing to men they already knew. Several of the prospective grooms or brides lied about whom they were or their situation. Two of the brides are on the run from the threat of the law though innocent. There is the absent or dead groom situation in several. Of course all end with believable but incredible swoony romantic endings (sigh), because like Kristen Holt said in her author blog many prospective brides and grooms wouldn't have risked all unless there was real life success stories back then of finding your romantic happily ever after from long distance, like this here reviewer did many years ago.

Sensuality content: Clean.

I was given an advance copy of this book in exchange for a review.
This is a collection of 6 novellas & I enjoyed all of them.
The first one is titled WRITTEN IN HER HEART by Stacy Henrie. Clay is Georgie's guardian & she's in love with him. When she asks Clay to help her find a husband, he realizes that he wants to be with her so he makes up a name & writes to her, hoping that she will choose him.
A friend of mine said that it reminds her of the movie You've Got Mail & I had the same thought. It's a sweet story.

WANTED: MIDWIFE BRIDE by Kristin Holt. Dr. Naomi Thornton is treated horribly by her husband & his colleague & they intend to blame her for their medical mistakes. She runs away to Wyoming to become a bride to Dr. Joe Chandler, who appreciates her & treats her as an equal. I enjoyed this one, especially when the creeps got their comeuppance.

THE SOUND OF HOME by Annette Lyon. Marilyn is given the choice of either marrying the despicable Victor or being charged with a murder she didn’t commit. Instead, she answers a mail order bride advertisement and boards a train to Wyoming to wed Harry. Harry’s brother Thomas meets her & explains that his brother has a childlike mind & didn't know what he was doing when he placed the ad, but he agrees to let her stay. Marilyn & Thomas eventually fall in love.

FOR BETTER OR WORSE by Sarah M. Eden. This was my favorite story. I'm a big fan of Sarah Eden & this one didn't disappoint. Gerald is tired of being alone so he places an ad for a bride. He gets Mary, a woman he knew when he was a teenager, who drove him crazy following him everywhere. The more time he spends with her, the more he realizes that he misjudged her & he falls for her. This is a really sweet story.

Heather B. Moore’s THE INCONVENIENT BRIDE reminded me of While You Were Sleeping. Carmela answers an ad only to find out that her prospective husband died a few days earlier. His brother Samuel helps her & ends up falling for her. A cute story as well.

THE PRICE OF SILVER, by Siân Ann Bessey. Katie comes to Idaho to marry Jake, but meets his brother Caleb instead. Jake has gone to take a mining job so Caleb takes Katie back to the family ranch to wait for Jake’s return. As they get to know each other, they fall in love. I liked the characters in this story, especially Caleb's mother.
