Beri finally breaks under the unrelenting strain of tragedy. In the fragile aftermath, she lets herself be carried farther away from everything she knows and loves.
A trio of major life passages come in rapid succession and form into a new perfect storm. Unsteady, but accepting, she faces strange challenges and more confusion. She grapples, she contends, she bends, but she doesn't find balance or solace.
WAKING UP
When she wakes up dazed, bleeding and lost, Beri is unable to connect the dots. All she knows is that she's becoming more uncertain. Is she in danger? Is she in denial? Is she becoming her own worst enemy?
THE FARTHER IN YOU GO, THE DEEPER IT GETS
Unrecognizable is the third installment of METTLE, a 2017 psychological thriller and racy suspense novel built around strong female characters and a riveting alpha male.
This series just keeps getting better and better the deeper it gets into the lives of Beri & Jude. Marriage is not at all what Beri imagined, and she is struggling to find that connection she first had with Jude, as he seems to be distant and pulling away from her. There is something very sinister about Jude, and Beri is just starting to get a hint that he is not everything he seemed to be in the beginning. For anyone who has ever looked at the one they are in a relationship with and wondered "Who IS this person?", the turn the story line makes in this third book of the series will feel quite identifiable. Although, hopefully, the reasons won't be exactly the same -- LOL!
As par for the course, Moss leaves you suspended in agony over what happens next. I NEED my part 4 fix NOW!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
I wasn't going to read this until the whole thing was ready to read, but... Well... I was curious. So here we are.
Jude is finally showing his true, super-twisted colors, but it has been a painstakingly slow journey to get here. The title says this is a "psychological thriller"... I'm still waiting for the "thriller" part to kick in. I stick with my previous assessment that reading a story in installments is not really my cup of tea. Meanwhile, I feel like the good part is coming (i.e. When Beri figures out she has a problem, and his name is Jude, and she needs to fight to get away from him), so I will probably jump right into the next installment in spite of my better judgement, in hopes that this will be the one.
The POV switches between first and third person are jarring. Every. Single. Time.
