A young woman’s body is discovered in a remote Sussex location. The female student had been held captive before she was tortured and killed in the most heinous manner.
Detective Inspector Scott Baker and his team must uncover the events that led to her tragic death.
The savagery of the murder points to a twisted and deranged psychopath with a propensity to exact extreme violence. A killer with the darkest of minds. A depraved individual whose actions go beyond the realms of rational thinking.
Stalking his victims, the killer is preying on lone female students that match his specific taste.
With no evidence and no witnesses, the killer is set on making it hard for those investigating to find him. Will Scott catch a murderer who’s lost his grip on reality?
Unexpectedly, another student is murdered in exactly the same circumstances. Scott and the team must get to this terrifying and sadistic killer before panic sets in amongst an already nervous student population.
The eyes of the force are on Scott as the pressure mounts to get a result.
With few clues to go on, Scott’s job becomes harder when a face from his past resurfaces to haunt him and shake up his new life. A moral dilemma ensues that forces Scott to put his career and relationship on the line.
Faced with mounting pressure, can Scott turn this around before his life and career spiral out of control?
Crime Never Pays… Well yes and no depending on what side of the fence you’re on!
I’ve always had a strong passion for whodunnits, crime series, and books. The more I immersed myself in it, the stronger the fascination grew.
In my spare time, you’ll find me in the gym, reading, binge watching Netflix or taking walks in the forest.
Oh, and I’m an avid people watcher, I just love to watch people, their mannerisms, and their way of expressing their thoughts… weird I know, but I could spend hours doing that. It's funny, because watching people often gives me insights and inspiration for describing human interaction in my books.
Fun fact: My favourite, bestest place ever on earth? Any of the Florida theme parks and the mad coasters out there. Add the food, shopping and weather, and you've got the best place on earth... especially when I see the joy on the faces of my family when we're out there :)
Weird fact: Spending an afternoon in a mortuary to bring my books to life. Oops! poor choice of words there :)
Captive is book four in the DI Scott Baker series by Jay Nadal. DI Scott Baker and his team were still grieving for the loss of colleague Sian when they caught a new case of the murder of university student Hailey Bratton. During the murder investigation, DI Scott Baker was also trying to control his past not to derail his career and new relationship in jeopardy. The readers of Captive will continue to follow DI Scott Baker and his team to find out what happens.
Wow, Captive is another fantastic book by Jay Nadal. I have to ensure that I do not read a book in this series and go to work the next day due to the issues of having trouble putting the book down. I love Jay Nadal portrayal of his characters and the way they intertwine with each other throughout this book. Captive is well written and researched by Jay Nadal. I like Jay Nadal description of the settings of Captive that allowed me to imagine being part of this book's plot.
The readers of Captive will understand that bullying and sexual harassment can affect men and women. Also, the readers of Captive will understand the problems that psychologists can have with their clients.
Don't get me wrong, it was written well, had a good outcome. It just wasn't the same as the rest of his books. There was DI Scott Bakers past coming in, and that just confused everything. And really, the storyline was better without it. But that's just my opinion, and we can't all love everything thrown our way. So I gave it 4 stars, and I think many ppl would love this book. I liked it ok, just not my thing I guess. Off to the next one. And looking forward to it.
This book was every thing that have come to expect to read in a DI Scott Baker story. The twists, turns and surprises that keeps the frustration level high for Scott and keeps the pages turning. Not knowing what is going to happen next makes for an interesting and entertaining story. The characters that make up Scott's team are great bunch. I look forward to following DI Scott Baker on more of his adventures.
Jay Nadal keeps on getting better with each book in this series. Some uncomfortable reading at times but it relates well to the story. Can't wait for the next read.
