This bestselling recovery classic has helped untold thousands of alcoholics onto the road to recovery. Written by the founder of the Johnson Institute in Minneapolis, one of the country's most successful training programs for treatment providers, I'll Quit Tomorrow present the concepts and methods that have brought new hope to alcoholics and their families, friends, and employers. Abstinence is not the only objective of Johnson's breakthrough methods -- his therapy aims at restoring the ego strength of the victim to assure permanent recovery. Johnson outlines a dynamic plan of intervention and treatment that will block the progress of alcoholism and lead to a richer, more productive life.
Excellent book in the sense that it made me think and draw connections to social media addictions today and what sort of “treatment” needs to be developed to reverse the postulations of the shallowing hypothesis.
I picked it in the .25 bin and read it from cover to cover. If you are an occasional drinker or a full functioning alchoholic its worth a moment to peruse this vintage classic. I had never really considered chemical dependency in this manner before. I learned some things, really.
PS...The edition I have is from the 50's (different cover) so there are lots of little period quips about men and women that are "classic" for the time...very MADMEN! I am guessing though that this newer version updates those bits right out...
To learn about alcoholism, I prefer reading a memoir rather than a more didactic book like this. The second half of the book, to me, read like an infomercial for the institute. All that being said, there were some valuable nuggets of information here.
