Excellent book in the sense that it made me think and draw connections to social media addictions today and what sort of “treatment” needs to be developed to reverse the postulations of the shallowing hypothesis.

This is a worthy read.

I picked it in the .25 bin and read it from cover to cover. If you are an occasional drinker or a full functioning alchoholic its worth a moment to peruse this vintage classic. I had never really considered chemical dependency in this manner before. I learned some things, really.

PS...The edition I have is from the 50's (different cover) so there are lots of little period quips about men and women that are "classic" for the time...very MADMEN! I am guessing though that this newer version updates those bits right out...

To learn about alcoholism, I prefer reading a memoir rather than a more didactic book like this. The second half of the book, to me, read like an infomercial for the institute. All that being said, there were some valuable nuggets of information here.
