Rate this book
Celebrate the 150th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions to Saint Bernadette in Lourdes with 150 true and moving stories! With an introduction by Most Reverend Jacques Perrier, Bishop of Lourdes, and Pierre-Marie Dumont, publisher of the immensely popular Magnificat missal, Wonders of Lourdes tells the true story of this marvellous shrine from the very first apparition to the present day. This unique collection chronicles 150 true and moving stories that celebrate 150 years of faith, prayer and miracles, and recounts the epic history of a pilgrimage site that has become a sign of conversion, faith and hope for millions of believers. Working in harmony with the bishops of France and with complete access to the Lourdes archives, twenty-two contributing writers relate in dramatic style the development of the shrine, its traditions and the personal journeys of many who work or have visited there. A great preparation for the first Papal visit of Pope Benedict to Lourdes, planned for the autumn of 2008.

This is a huge book: 611 pages, not counting the appendix or index, with indeed 150 stories to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the apparitions at Lourdes, each roughly four pages. While they were all well-written and well-researched, some were more compelling than others. I was more interested in the stories of the actually healings than in this or that organization or facility, but that's just my opinion. I think it would have benefitted from some pictures or maps. Well worth the read for those interested in Lourdes. Enjoy.

A moving and interesting book on a place of holiness, tenderness, and kindness. Who could have imagined that a small village in France would become a world center of peace and love? This book details the accepted miracles but also shares many more miracles experienced by the many visitors over the 150 plus years of Lourdes. I recommend this book to someone seeking a better understanding of apparitions, holiness, and the humility of the one chosen by The Blessed Mother.
