At 57, I have seen many people come and go. Those who have made a lasting impression and actually changed my life are very few and far between. Let me be clear that, it's _not_ Michael Anthony's own writing and speaking skills which I am about to comment on but, far more importantly, his willingness to be lead by the true teaching of God, found in the Bible. That...that is what separates this book from anything else I have ever read. While he does share stories from his life, which are amazing in their own right, it's his willingness to set aside his own wants and/or desires, to reach other people.
What you _will_ find in his book "A Call for Courage" is thoughtful, sound "1+1=2" simple reasoning, to encourage you to recognize what you can do as a Christian and, just as important, how to do it.
His style is convicting without being condemning. It is written with passion and persuasion. It is the encouragement you've been searching for. Each chapter ends with thought provoking questions, which summarized the chapter. Footnotes and references are provided so you can be assured that, what you're reading isn't simply an "opinion" but backed up with resources you can investigate yourself.
There is so much deep, soulful material that re-reading it is effectively compulsory. That's not a bad thing! For those of us blessed with Pastor Mike's preaching, the ability to take a few moments to read the kinds of topics we've been hearing for the past several years, is actually a "relief"! By that, I mean his sermons are an exceptional blending of easy-to-understand truths, delivered with passion and excitement. He will gently warn you that the day's sermon may be like being hit with a firehose. That's almost always true. Being able to sit in a quiet place and read the truths he preaches is like being swept down a mighty river, rather than the firehose. You can no more stop the river than you can the firehose but the book allows you the freedom to "rewind" the ideas he conveys. You can "paddle back upstream" and re-read things that struck you.
He has said in public and in conversation with me that, he wrote it as if it might be THE last thing he could write. Mind, having lived the life I've lived, read the things I've read and listened to the things I've listened to, it's my heartfelt belief that Pastor Mike is on the brink of becoming one of America's best preachers of God's Word. If you appreciate the down-home, plainly spoken style of, for example, Dr. Charles Stanley or Max Lucado, this book is for you. If you feel you have doubts about what's going on in our country but you're just not sure of yourself, regarding how to address tricky topics, this book is for you. (I'm also going to get the audio version so I can not only "re-read" it again while I'm driving but let Pastor Mike's vocal delivery, bring the proper emphasis, to the appropriate passages.)
It's high time for Christians to come together, to acknowledge our failures to stand up and speak out...and to do it such that people, believers or not, will see that Jesus works through those who are willing to submit to His word, as plainly taught in the Bible. We don't need to beat people over the head. We're already getting beat over the head and, honestly, it builds resentment, not persuasion. We're simply not going to sway everyone out there but, that's to be expected. It's not about being militant. Like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we can peacefully bring about powerful change for the better, together.
Be encouraged and discover _you_ too have "a call for courage"! :)

An AMAZING book that lays out clear cut examples of how to daily speak God's Word in Truth and Love to those around us. It calls each of us to step out with courage and humility, and stand up AGAINST hatred, intolerance, racism; and FOR the long forgotten principles this country was founded on in a society where we are to be Salt and Light . Mike turns what most of us see as a complex and daunting task into a simple, straightforward game plan with real life examples. All we need to do is humbly surrender ourselves, reach out and grasp that courage and start standing up for God and His Truth each day.

What an eye-opening, encouraging, convicting, and truth speaking book. This should be required reading in every church coupled with a Civics class for followers of Jesus. Not just a “point out the bad things” kind of book, but one that actually gives practical steps to stand up and speak out with humility and courage. To be bold in speaking truth equaled with love as Jesus did.
Warning...this is not an easy book to put down. Nor is it a one-time reader. Be advised that your neck may get stiff from nodding in agreement at so many truths written in its pages.

The only book I read that deserves more than my 5 stars. This book is encouraging to live a purpose driven life with courageous humility. We really need to stand out and speak up if we really want our message to be heard and our actions to be felt. This book will indeed motivate us to bring a salt to the earth and light to the world.

I hate reading, but I love this book! Unlike many Christian books of our time, it goes into depth about the social and even political issues that we currently face, and more importantly, attempts to equip and spur us into action.

I absolutely loved this book. I highly recommend it to every pastor, minister, and Christian out there. It challenged me in a way that I haven't been challenged, in quite a while.
Pastor Michael exhorts the believer to love people in to the Kingdom, in this page turner.
It generally takes me a long time to read a book. Sometimes I don't finish them. I read this one, 240 pages in less than a week.
If you buy this book, you won't be disappointed.

The situations Michael Anthony discusses, speaks to you, and me. This is the stuff we are dealing with today, right now. He is very clear with sensible verbiage, you can't NOT get it. His words are factual, and to the Point, and then there's the Answers ! Imagine that!

“Somebody needs to do something.” I’ll bet most of us would confess that we have made that statement at one time or another in reaction to daily events popping from the headlines of our news sources, maybe even perhaps in the last month or two. Well, that somebody is you, my Christ-following friend. And Michael Anthony’s book, "A Call for Courage," is the springboard to get you and me to speak and act with humble courage.
George Barna, writing in the forward, says, “The daily question for every person of faith is, ‘How do I translate the incredible courage, perseverance, wisdom, gentleness, and humility of Christ into my own interactions and decisions?’” Michael Anthony lays out a clear-cut, no nonsense answer to that question, providing plenty of footnotes, self-examination questions, personal examples, and a strong “battle plan” that make this book so distinctive.
Shining the spotlight on our “comfortably lukewarm” Christianity, a trait that is very distasteful to God, and our affinity for blaming our nation’s problems on “them,” Michael Anthony begins to lay out the framework of pursuing and practicing humble courage. At the onset, he shows us that WE are the problem: “waiting for someone else to be the change that God is calling us to be.” We do that by speaking the truth in love to a dying world. This book is truly a must-read book for 21st century Christians in the United States...remarkably impactful for being both inspirational and even transformational as I continue to process the content imparted.
Without being alarmist, Michael Anthony analyzes our present and anticipates our future...and then prescribes some action steps for ordinary people to take for making a difference in their respective spheres of influence.
In a broad sense, he emphasizes the necessity of “courageous humility” or alternatively, “humble courage.” A creative way of rephrasing Paul’s exhortation in Ephesians of “speaking the truth in love.” Truth must be spoken lest the culture will continue to deteriorate, but if not spoken with love, the most truthful of words will never be heard or heeded.
His overall message underscores the reality that our national problems are, at the core, spiritual in nature. More specifically, he convincingly presents the case that spiritual reformation—or a revival—can only occur when personal repentance begins. When a yearning for revival is expressed, we typically invoke 2 Chronicles 7:14 as a guiding passage...but he reminds us that rather seizing on this passage as a call for intercessory prayer, we should view it as a plea for personal repentance.
The big takeaway is his exhortation to be less fearful of people and more fearful of the Lord. Only when the focus shifts from the horizontal to the vertical can one truly hope to live with courageous humility.

I believe that God used Michael Anthony to write this book, “A Call for Courage: Living with Power, Truth, and Love in an Age of Intolerance and Fear” to hit so many nails on their heads that it built a house! I think this book could apply to any era of time, but especially such as the one as we are living in right now, where the need for change in America (and in our world, really) is at a critical level. It’s not just change in legislation and politics that is needed; a unified spiritual movement (lead by the Holy Spirit of God) needs wash through our whole nation from coast to coast. There are so many truths delivered in this book – truths that every single person needs to soak in – that it should be read over and over again until it flows through our actions.
Of course, I believe that the best book that has ever been written is the Bible; the second runner-up (in my opinion) is “A Call for Courage.” It is educational, refreshing and encouraging – you’ll definitely want to grab a copy of this and read it as soon as possible! It will drive in the need for Christians to humbly and courageously rise and speak up in love. After decades of Christian books I will admit I’ve become skeptical and a bit reluctant to read many new releases. With all sincerity, I do not hesitate to highly recommend Michael Anthony’s new book, “A Call For Courage”.
Our current society is extremely polarized and there are so many divisive issues that people are reluctant to strike up a casual, friendly conversation with a stranger. Shouldn’t we instead be openly discussing these issues? Shouldn’t we as Christians be confident in what we believe and able to share in a non-confrontational manner with others.
A Call For Courage is unique in that it covers the full range of those currently divisive and polarizing issues. Mike openly discusses these issues from a Biblical perspective and at the close of each chapter he gives a review of how to answer the issues as a Christian, in a manner honoring to GOD.
LET’S HONOR GOD WITH CONFIDENT AND HUMBLE RESPONSES.

Wow! This book doesn’t shy away from any of the hard topics that we face today in society as a Christian. It offers a scriptural understanding of how to be a true citizen in our communities and nation, as well as a steward of what God has given us. It doesn’t just point out what the problems are, but it also offers plenty of ideas on how to show up courageously. Each chapter has a succinct summary of the highlights at the end. Every time I thought I had just read my favorite chapter, the next one was just as good. I was challenged and convicted throughout the entire book. Not only is the content good, Michael Anthony is also a very talented and engaging writer. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a challenge to be a Christian with the courage to speak up and be the difference you want to see! "A Call for Courage" by Michael Anthony addresses the need to not only recognize the problems in society, but to face them with "humble courage". Jesus said that the church in Laodicea was Lukewarm because they accepted the "status quo" of their comfortable situation (Rev. 3: 15-16). It is said that one cannot legislate morality, yet someone's morality is being imposed whether one likes it or not. There is a movement of intolerance for historic Judeo-Christian values that has been increasing in recent years. Michael Anthony not only points out this opposition, but relates practical ways for Christians to stand up in both truth and love (Eph. 4: 15). To stand for Jesus and the Christian faith also means to care about the nation one lives in. This book will enable those who are willing to leave their fear behind in order to move forward in the courage of a Daniel and to make a difference for the Kingdom of God.

Michael Anthony challenges each of us on a personal level to take a look at how we view God and the Bible; and how that translates into our everyday lives. Too many of us need to re-evaluate our walk and then, humbly and courageously, completely surrender to Christ. With Michael’s and God’s help, we can see where we are falling short and how our apathy is affecting the world around us. He exposes the Christian's fear of and indifference to elements that wage war against the foundational Judeo-Christian beliefs. He delivers a sound rebuke and a siren call to awake and to wage spiritual warfare for the souls of men and women. He admonishes us to "stand and to be of good courage". He lays hold on the root of our beliefs and shakes us to our core- all from a position of humility. Unless we wake up and walk in truth and in the love of Christ we will lose everything we treasure in the not so distant future. I highly recommend this book.

This book reads more like a manifesto! In every page there is vital information about how we can help change the culture in which we live and help bring our country back to what our forefathers imagined. As Christians, we feel so assaulted by the swift change (negatively) of our culture it is like we are all stunned into inaction. Anthony provides many ways in which we can continue to influence our world and culture for good, while retaining Jesus' command to love those around us. Excellent book and one I will be recommending always.

It appears that our world is in a downward spiral when it comes to morality. However, the Bible tells us what is right and what is wrong. A Call for Courage is encouraging for Christians to stand up and speak the truth in love. Pastor Mike’s ‘A Call for Courage: Living with Power, Truth, and Love in an Age of Intolerance and Fear’ is thought provoking and a guide on how to be the change that God wants us to be in this day and age. Other than the Bible, if you only read one book this year, this is the one!

A Call For Courage is exactly that! American culture has morally lost its compass and if Christians do not speak up now, America as we have known it will be gone. Michael Anthony is calling all believers in Jesus Christ to step out of our comfort zones and courageously speak up in all settings, no matter the reactions by others. I highly recommend this book to join in the movement to get America back on track - morally and spiritually. This book provides very practical and useful ways to speak up and be heard. God can change America and I want to be a part of it after reading this book.

Awesome book. Very easy to read, understand, and apply to life's challenge. I feel a desire to get more involved in the community to inform people truthfully about Jesus. People of faith should be heard and to be part of our community. This will help people understand how and where we should be more involved. A wake up call. Clear, forceful, and gracious. A welcome break from the usual hysteria about how all of our problems are someone else's fault. The author presents a compelling argument for how the solution begins with each of us - Making it our business to know what's going on, thoroughly integrating our faith into our social communities and the political process, and doing so with an undeniable love for people. Highly recommended.

I just finished reading this book and I highly recommend this to everyone who follows Christ! This is a wake-up call for the church to "stand up and speak out when the world tells us to sit down and shut up!" I cannot say enough about this book. Pastor Michael Anthony writes a literal "How To" manual for today's Christian to "Stand up and Speak out" about all the issues of today, without sounding like a bigot or a "hater".
I bought three copies of this book so that I could hand some out to friends and family, that's how much I believe in this book, it's message and the man who wrote it.
