Humancorp Incorporated is another wacky comedy adventure from author Andrew Stanek. Meet Sean. Sean is the worst employee in the whole world. After being fired, Sean can't find a job and enters a downward spiral. He becomes depressed, turns to drinking, and experiences thoughts of suicide and sociology professorship. Then, an idea dawns on him. He writes a letter addressed to "whoever runs the world" and asks for a job. The letter he gets back contains a job offer from a company he's never heard of Humancorp Incorporated. Homeopathic suicide pills, giraffe catapults, and the Mandatory Organization of Anarchists - all in Humancorp Incorporated.
This book is marked as humour and I feel that the author may have been so focused on writing a funny book that he forgot he was writing a book.
Things like character development and plot fall by the wayside so that the punchlines are delivered. This unfortunately makes the story more like a joke book collection rather than an actual story. 98% of the book involves very little happening with the last 2% being long-winded exposition and a moral. Add in all the characters who are named after their character traits (Nils the nihilist, Deniro the billionaire etc) and this feels like the author would be a fun person to know, but for me not someone who's other books I would pursue.
This is a clever book, possible too clever. The humor is so densely packed that, to me, it became tiresome. I got halfway through the book and i found myself having to force myself to continue reading it. A humor book should not be this tedious. Yet it was.
This was pretty damn funny! Looking for an escape from the daily grind? Andrew Stanek’s Humancorp Incorporated is hilarious, ridiculous, and incredibly poignant. You may not want to put it down, but avoid the suicide pills as they won’t keep you awake at all.
I loved this book. It was incredibly ridiculous from the very start. It’s almost at the same crazy level as the movie Idiocracy, but takes the inanity a step further and makes a better point about the insanity of society. It was not what I expected (as I’m loath to read anything that’s more on the non-fiction side of things or is out to teach me something- I do that all day long at my job) as I truly stick to fiction, comedy, horror, mysteries, thrillers, etc. This was a welcome surprise as it is nestled firmly, comfortably within my reading wheelhouse and had something poignant to say. Bravo, Andrew Stanek. Bravo.
It took two tries for me to get through this novel. The first time, the book didn’t gel at all for me and I stopped after a couple of chapters. The second time I must have been in a better frame of mind because I got about a third of the way through before the satire just stopped working and I had to force myself to continue reading.
The basic plot is that a worthless loser of an employee gets fired by other worthless losers and is eventually hired by a billionaire who thinks he runs the world. The billionaire manufactures humans and needs our rotten employee to help him track down and identify defective humans so he can get them out of circulation. The story is a slightly veiled excuse to satirize society that just didn’t work for me.
Hilarious perspective on modern life and our society
Fun read that really takes a kick at the modern corporate world, greed, inequity, political correctness and the hypocrisy of so much in our world. This book is probably not for everyone, but if you have a quirky sense of humour, perhaps leaning to the darker side there will be places where you laugh out loud. Really enjoyed this book. Funny, entertaining and for mine, topical.
If you need a complete escape from reality for a while then just read this book. A full manual for the deranged world leader would have this in the recommended reading list for further information as would the guide to corporate infiltration and world domination. Probably most people have had the odd daydream about running the world but most likely not in this way or ,at least, we don’t admit it.
This book is very funny with some actual facts thrown in for good measure. It was easy to follow and an easy read, for those who aren't total bibliophiles like myself. A pleasant time consumer for the more advanced readers. I would like to share this with friends and family, but I have no friends and my entire family is full of people who don't put any stock in actually reading anything...including the newspapers.😁
I don't know how people have ideas like this bit I'm glad they do.
Mr Stanek has kept away from too much DE&I content that a lot of writers seem intent on including. Instead focusing on the theoretical idea that today's billionaires may in some way be related to the batsh1t crazy characters in this very, very funny book.
I haven't enjoyed a "fantasy" book with so much reality in it before. Ever.
What a fabulous and unexpected treat. I picked this book because the cover n summary looked like a fun read and I wasn’t disappointed. If you want to take a quick break from reality and read how the world truly is run, then this book is a most!! And yes please I vote for a sequel!!!!
Having worked in the corporate world for years, I got a lot of laughs from this book. There are more than a few past coworkers that I'd like to share this story with. Good job, Andrew. I'll be looking for more from you.
Great story! I really enjoyed this book and I believe it is a better idea than the "You Are Dead" stories. Delightfully funny, especially the mentions of Trump! Well written.
Andrew Stanek writes quirky, amusing stories with a delightful thread of nonsense. Humancorp Incorporated is a little more moral driven then some of his other works, but it is no less entertaining. For a light-hearted read, I highly recommend it.
If you like the "Sign Here Please" series you'll love this book!
Just as hilarious as Stanek's other comedy books, well worth the price! His take on job-hunting rejection notices and the kinds of people who work at call centers will leave you in stitches!
This story was interesting. I enjoyed reading it and couldn't stop reading it until I finished it. Great read and I'm looking forward to reading more of this story with Sean as the mc. Just don't kill him off
We had a good time with this one. Adventure, Turbocharged donkeys, evil corporations and Donald Trump. Tanks, gun battles, walls collapsed, giga billionaires and Brain altering Machines.
This clever author has given us another opportunity to fall out of the chair with laughter while tears stream down our faces. You must read all his books. The books get better and better.
I liked the writing style and laughed a lot through out this book as some of the descriptions I could definitely identify with from my professional life. I just felt that the story was a little slow and the ending was a little unrealistic for me.
Very ummm, well, silly? No, not the right word. Irreverent? Maybe but not quite. Maybe a little bit closer to ...so sorry, I seem to have fun out of words.
