Rule 1: No personal relationship with the client: Rule 2: No honeytrapping anyone you know. Rule 3: No sex with the target.
When investigator Ally Moore’s boss asks her for a favor, she can’t say no - even if honeytrapping her boss’s almost fiancé sounds like a terrible idea. She’ll find him, flirt, leave, and write a report. Couple of days, max. But when the target turns out to be her one night, no names, never forgotten fling, gorgeous single dad Jace Carter – who has no intention of letting her vanish from his life like she did that crazy moonlit night – is there any way she can resist him?
I picked this one up because of all the great reviews, but it honestly lost me from page 1 and didn't get any better! First - Ally works for a firm in which they send her to find out whether or not a spouse/lover is a cheater. She never sleeps or gets involved with her target. Jace owns a coffee shop and is a single father of a 17 yr old son (he got his high school girlfriend pregnant, married her, but she left him & her child when the son was born and he is very bitter & has trust issues). Ally & Jace had a one night stand a year prior to the story beginning. Jace tried to find her but without knowing her name or anything else about her, he finally gives up and starts a relationships with Crystal - Ally's boss. Things get very serious between him & Crystal and he is about to propose to her when Ally walks back into his life. (Side note: Ally was asked by Crystal, her boss, to do a special favor for her by checking to see if her boyfriend is a cheater before she accepts his proposal. Ally agrees - not knowing that Jace is her one night stand. When she sees him, she tries to back out but Crystal wouldn't let her). So we spend half of the book with POV's from Jace how he won't cheat on his girlfriend even though he wants to get in Ally's pants. More than half of the book is Jace's POV of how Crystal is the right woman for him (even though he had been obsessed with Ally) because he "enjoys her company and the great sex". We also learned that he slept with other women after his one night stand with Alley and before meeting Crystal. Ally in turn also has a booty call with a fellow colleague. While they reconnect, there is no cheating, except I hated how he would always throw the other woman in Ally's face and then at the same time tell her how much he wanted her. This went on back & forth for the half of the book and it killed it for me as I don't enjoy OW/OM trope... After he finally breaks up with the other woman when she shows her true colors, he goes straight to Ally and the stupid woman takes him back. Now I know this is a fictional romance but I expect my heroines to have some backbone and pride for pete's sake. The dirt bag was screwing her boss and she didn't care at all? There is a HEA at the end but it was too little too late for me as I didn't feel any true connection or relationship development from the two. So if you don't mind OW/OM trope in your fictional romances maybe you will like it. Not me though.
I honestly loved this story so much....from the very start to the very end it had you hooked!! This is a story of second chance romance....it honestly has you wondering which way it's going to go...
Jace and Ally have a one night stand and never see each other again....Unexpected events have there paths crossing again....I absolutely love the twists and turns the story takes you, I love the secondary characters and that they all play a big part of the story....it's such a lovely love story that has you smiling at times, but it also has you feeling other emotions....you feel for these characters, as well as the other characters in the book.
It is well written and the story flows so well....definitely gets 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me and I definitely will want to read more books from this author.
It's with a deep heartfelt sigh I write this. Honestly this book sounded SO interesting. The blurb definitely grabbed my interest from first glance. After diving into the story though was another thing altogether. The story wasn't particularly bad but it wasn't great. And I don't think I really liked the author's writing style.
The heroine's boss Crystal was SO LAME. The author didn't really seem to care about giving her any real depth and she was really one dimensional. As soon as her "true colors" are revealed I was left feeling bored and disappointed that the author didn't put forth more effort.
On top of that the sketchy line the characters toed with the "not cheating" but then acknowledging that they did "want to cheat" wasn't all that interesting and wasn't well written. It's an interesting trope in a book but in this case it was much like the whole book itself and lacked depth.
The heroine was obnoxious and seemed too self entitled or self righteous? I'm not sure what is the right term for her. She feels it's her "right" and "duty" to butt into the teenager girls life because she saw her scars on her back and assumed the worst. Like she was some heroic crusader out to save innocents? I mean, come on!
Lastly I wasn't feeling the connection between Jace and Ally. So they had a one night stand that was apparently "hot" and she being the "one and done" kind of classy gal she was played the disappearing act on him before he could steal a third round on that most magical New Years Eve. Um, so what? He apparently decided to go on a stalking/hunting kick and tried to find her with absolutely no info on her other than her physical description since she insisted on no names. I mean how does that work out? It doesn't sound very successful. Not even gonna mention the 0 to 60 from one night stand to supposedly being in love with one another in only a week of reuniting. Yeah, no.
All in all the story HAD potential in it's plot but either it was the author that kept it from reaching what it could have been or it was just the overall story itself. I don't know. I was ready to quit at 60% but out of boredom and a need to finish most books I read I trudged through it.
I was laughing out loud at the very first line! Not going to spoil it here, but it was worth the read all by itself. Ally’s job is to see if suspected cheaters were really willing to cheat, and to say it left her a little jaded would be an understatement. Ally and Jace have a torrid one-night-stand about a year before the story starts, but they keep it completely anonymous and never expect to meet again. Jace is obsessed with her though, and it takes a very long time before he even considers dating someone else. When Ally is sent to see if Crystal's boyfriend is the cheating kind, she has no idea until she meets him that he's her fling from the past.
This book was written for an intelligent audience, something I can’t say about most books these days. This author doesn't take the easy road to setting up her story or describing her characters and that gives us a more vivid reading experience.
Some parts of this story were predictable, and they should be - our book boyfriends should never be cheaters, and we definitely want them to be head over heels for the heroine of the story. There were other aspects that were completely unexpected but seamlessly woven into the main story and added a lot of emotional depth to the main characters.
Overall this is one of the better books I've read this year. I read this in one very late-night sitting, but I couldn't stop until I was done. It was that good. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Ally Moore is an expert at her job: a private investigator who honeytraps cheaters. She takes on a case of trapping her boss' fiancé with the promise of a promotion, but things turn sideways when Ally realizes she knows the man. Jace happens to be the one she had a hot fling with one New Year's Eve, and someone she never thought she'd see again. On top of it, Jace never really got over it. So when Ally comes back into his life, he wants her to stay. Will she keep focused on the job or will she give in to the passion she once felt for him?
This is a dual point of view contemporary romance with the trope of the other woman, and it's done in a fun way with the honeytrapping premise. Ally is no nonsense and determined never to let a man steer her away from her career, but Jace is hard to resist. He's an honest guy, a single dad, and caught in a bunch of messy situations. The tension between them is steamy, and I would have loved to see more done with it. This was a light and easy romantic read.
The Fiancé Trap: A Honeytrap Inc. Romance is a stand alone steamy romance featuring an operative from Honeytrap Inc., an agency that weeds the cheaters out from the keepers! It's a steamy romantic read with no cliffhanger.
It is the first book set in this world, two more are planned. These will also be stand alone books - no cliffhangers.
The Fiancé Trap is out on 7 July. It is in Kindle Unlimited. It is available in paperback: http://amzn.to/2soFCzQ
There's a goodreads giveaway where you can win one of two signed paperbacks running on goodreads from 9-16 July - remember, it goes live on the 9th! http://bit.ly/2ts02rm
This is the first book I've read by Tabitha Lane and I really liked this book and will be reading more by her! This isn't just a second chance romance, there are other relationships in question throughout the story. I liked all the dynamics at play and how one misunderstanding can make or break any relationship, whether it be between siblings, parent and child, friends, spouses, co-workers, etc.Can you really completely trust someone? Is faith in your relationship unshakable? I look forward to reading more books by this author!!
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review!
Ally and Jace had a hot one night stand the year before and have not seen each other since. Ally’s job is to catch any suspected cheaters and if they are willing to cheat. When Ally is sent by her boss to check out her boyfriend, the last person she expects to see is Jace. No spoilers, give this one a go you will not be disappointed!! This is a beautifully written story which is intense, with drama, and laugh out loud humour. This is the 1st time I have read any of this authors work, but my word, it will not be the last! Fantastic work Tabitha!
This was such a sweet love story that sucked you in. Jace and Ally have a short hot past when Ally is sent to temp him but unknown to her he is the man who she has been dreaming about. It was lovely watching their internal battle to do what's right when they just wanted to rip each others clothes off. There were some twists and turns that left you wondering if this couple were going to get their happy ever after. Brilliantly written love story.
So this is my first Tabitha A. Lane book and I really enjoyed it. This book is so much more than a second-chance story. This story has such a wonderful set of characters and the story is so wonderfully set that it draws you in that you don't want to put it down. Jace and Ally are such deep characters in this book that you have to root for them to win. I voluntarily read an advance reader copy for my honest review.
You think you have the story pegged when you first start it but there are a few twists and turns that leave you wondering how the story will go and end
