Mary Summer Rain's relationship with the old and wise Indian shaman No-Eyes, introduced in Spirit Song, continues, as she reveals to Mary her compelling visions of the future. From the setting in the simple mountain cabin, No-Eyes takes her on a sometimes frightening journey through time, viewing the upheavals to come through a unique perspective, on timeless paths that few have ever traveled.
Second in a celebrated and best-selling series, which includes Spirit Song, Dreamwalker, Phantoms Afoot, Daybreak, Soul Sounds, Mountains, Meadows, and Moonbeams(Young Spirit), and Whispered Wisdom, Phoenix Rising gives the reader an understanding of the relationship between the Earth Mother and the creatures who inhabit her domain. It's a book that is already a classic for its philosophical insight and the powerful lyricism of the author's portrayal of the beautiful mountains of Colorado. And, as always, the unique relationship between teacher and student is delightfully rendered.
Mary Summer Rain is a naturalist philosopher and prolific author whose lyrical writing and deep insight have inspired generations. Best known for her works on nature, dream symbolism, feminine spirituality, and prophecy, she brings clarity to complex subjects. Her novel Ruby was a finalist for the New Age Retailers 2005 Narcissus Award, and she appeared on NBC’s Ancient Prophecies. Mary lives in the Rocky Mountains, sharing a woodland cabin with rescue dogs and a crow named Merlin.
Summer Rain's book Phoenix Rising is filled with visions of the future, the turmoil between nations and government upheavals and changes the Earth has gone through and is still happening even now. It's a book of prophecy that is coming true today as I write this in December, 2021. I find it uncanny to be witnessing first hand many of the predictions made in this book. The Visionary No Eyes took Mary Summer Rain on many journeys into the future bearing witness to the horrors man has brought upon himself with his reckless disregard of our Mother Earth. No Eyes' vision of the future is our current reality and it's not over yet.
I tried and tried and much of what was discussed by No-Eyes has come to pass. I could not get beyond the entitled/helpless white female narrator whose voice is completely patronizing to her Native American mentor No-Eyes. This is my biggest complaint about cross-cultural stories, narratives and etc. Why must the White voice always dominate and patronize an otherwise very informative and useful text, WHY?
A lot of this book since 1985 has come true (minor sections have not). Everytime I see a 'self-serve' counter in a grocery store...it reminds me of this book. It also talks about how the government (yes, the US Government) will try to create jobs but will be fruitless since big business was going to leave nothing but empty shells for factories as they moved operations overseas.
Great book-look forward to that 'golden age' around the corner.....
I remember when I read this long long ago that I was disappointed there wasn't MORE from No Eyes in this book, especially given the title. Seems like there was more wisdom in Spirit Song.
I admit I compared Phoenix Rising to Spirit Song. The second of the three in the No-Eyes series, this was about No-Eyes prophecies for the United States. Some have occurred and are occurring. So much to think about. I look forward to Dreamwalker to develop a deeper understanding and perspective.

Full Name: originally Mary Leigh (Polish surname unknown), legally changed to Mary Summer Rain Born: December 12, 1945 at 3:05 a.m. Died: N/A, still living Profession: author Chosen Genre: 'Native American spirituality' (read: New Age)
Phoenix Rising was one of the first books I read when I became conscious on my spiritual journey, way back in 1989. I remember being both enthralled and horrified, and for the first time, I was able to relate to John's book of Revelation. Spirit guided me to return to No-Eyes' astonishing prophetic voice, and unlike so many other new-age prophecy, No-Eyes, blind from birth, has seen truly. Utterly without personal knowledge of finance or the global financial markets, she was nonetheless accurate in her predictions of downfall. Similarly, she is proving chillingly correct about issues of church and state. Be ready. Some of No-Eyes' most stunning revelations are yet to come.
If you want to become a nervous wreck and fearful about the predicted future in this book, I recommend it. Otherwise, stay away. If you feel at peace and want to try to end your peacefulness, read this book. I agree with one of the other comments below that the white narrator is patronizing and disrespectful of No Eyes and that deterred me from finishing it. I couldn't get past chapter 4.
More than a few of the predictions from "no eyes" have come true since this book was written. More will be seen in the days and months to come. A realty check for anyone thinking life will go on without mankind changing negative attitudes and negative ways of living on earth.
I've returned to this book several times. I always find something new and evocative in the prophesies. So much has come to pass that I would have considered impossible not that long ago
