A look at the environment, holistic health, dream and vision interpretation, and Native American culture presents age-old traditions and includes a complete guide to traditional Native American herbal healing.
In Earthway , Mary Summer Rain interweaves the inspired teachings of No-Eyes with a veritable encyclopedia of rare knowledge, showing us how we can bring to vivid life the beauty and power of this natural way, giving us a new hope for the future.
Mary Summer Rain is a naturalist philosopher and prolific author whose lyrical writing and deep insight have inspired generations. Best known for her works on nature, dream symbolism, feminine spirituality, and prophecy, she brings clarity to complex subjects. Her novel Ruby was a finalist for the New Age Retailers 2005 Narcissus Award, and she appeared on NBC’s Ancient Prophecies. Mary lives in the Rocky Mountains, sharing a woodland cabin with rescue dogs and a crow named Merlin.
"Earthway" is full of remarkable and necessary information about the need for humanity to remember their connection to Gaia and live in harmony with their environment. The information provided is vast and full of wisdom and I enjoyed very much reading the book.
There were, however, some ... inconsistencies? ... with some of the presentations of information. The diet advocated by No-Eyes, Mary Summer Rain's teacher, includes the eating of meat only from fish and fowl - no eating of anything with four legs. This is presented in such a way as to leave me, frankly, dumbfounded. Is the author trying to say that the native peoples didn't eat bison, deer, pronghorn, bear, etc.? Because that is just ridiculous. She also states that it is important to eat gelatin - which is made from hooves. So, don't eat the meat, but slaughter the animals for their hooves? That isn't the Native way, which was to use every bit of the creature they had killed and by doing so properly express their gratitude for the gift of that animal's life in order to sustain their own.
Also, there is a long listing of dream interpretations - many of them make a great deal of sense, but there are also instances in which the perceptions of the dreamer aren't taken into account. Different people have different perceptions of the meaning of colours, for instance; or the meaning of snakes, insects, rodents ... personally, I don't see snakes as examples of "underhanded dealing," but of rebirth, renewal, rejuvenation. I don't see rats are harbingers of illness, but as examples of social connections and camaraderie.
The author also states that there are many paths to God, but then makes the impression that the way she is recommending is the only one ... admittedly, that way is to look within, but still ...
However, these are minor matters, overall, compared to the knowledge imparted in this book - I recommend it, but also recommend (based upon my confusion over certain matters) that it would be better to read the other books she has written first, which apparently give a great deal of background information needed in order to fully understand what is written here.
If you were looking for a sign, this is it! Attune to Nature, discover who you really are and go chase your dreams. This book is the most spiritually practical and nature-informative volume I have yet come across. Certainly a review is not enough to do it justice. A kind author and her wise teacher show you the beauty and balance of Nature, health, food, even the meaning of dream symbols. After I read this book, my life changed for the better, forever. I keep it close and refer to it often. It's a well of wisdom.
I found this book on a shelf in the Welcome Bay NZMCA Camp Site, our first stop with our new caravan, on our new life on the road. Some interesting stuff is written in the page's, I liked the description of vibration, when I met my husband, it was as if we already knew each other, we fitted like jigsaw puzzle pieces, together 🙂. The diet part is a bit confusing as it's well known the native people ate whatever they hunted. But maybe no-eyes people ate bird's and fish. But Gelatin is cows hooves 🤮. I'm vegan so ... yeah nah.
So I have read the book, I mostly found this book interesting, but I couldn't really get the dream section, I don't seem to remember dreams 😔.
The overall message about how the majority of the human race are so blind to what we're doing to the world, how we are unhappy but look in all the wrong places. It's funny that after 3 weeks living on the road, without the majority of the "stuff" we had in our house, we're out in the world more, in nature more and I can say my soul is happier.
It's been an interesting read into something that I've been not really thought about before.
okay I have read this book a few times and will continue to reread it as a reference but Mary SummerRain is a very good author and if you are interested in earning some about the plants this is a great bvook to add to your library
I read her other book Phantoms afoot and I fell in-love with it, so I quickly ordered Earthway on Amazon, by the time I finished reading the book, I felt disappointed, like I didn't learn anything new. -
Beautiful book with so much information regarding health, wisdom, and ultimately love a story of a Divine women on a mission towards true wealth, inner wealth. Bringing you right back to nature the way Yah intended. Shalom
At first I was hesitant to read a book on Native American naturopathy written by a white girl who changed her name to Mary Summer Rain, but it turned out to be pretty cool and informative.
