Just finished reading “Extinction: An Apocalyptic Horror Novel (Hell on Earth, Book 3) by Iain Rob Wright. Well, Iain has done it again! In a world teeming with demons and evil angels, heroes will come from the most unexpected places, and villainous reprobates will come from, well, the same place. Expect the unexpected and you will be fine. The plot moves so fast you may lose your breath. And look out for flying objects, as I was reading this book I found myself trying to get out of the way of flying human and demon parts. I literally found myself ducking out of the way. I also found myself saying what the hell was that all about (in a good way). I was glad I was alone in my living room when reading this book as I had a few outbursts. I love when a book gets you that involved...and Iain has a habit of doing just that. Great characters and a unique original storyline. I’ve read just about all of Iain’s books and have yet to be disappointed. I’m sure there is much more ahead...and I for one always look forward to his next release.

Synopsis (from back cover): Continue the epic story of mankind’s struggle against extinction in Book 3 of the bestselling “Hell on Earth” Series: EXTINCTION.

VAMPS: After dealing with his rival, Pusher, and escaping the clutches of treacherous Prime Minister, John Windsor, Vamps and his last remaining friend, Mass, set out with the mysterious Aymun. And can he trust his second in command, ambitious Lieutenant Tosco? Crossing the Atlantic was tough, but what lies ahead will be worse.

RICHARD HONEYWELL: After failing to save his wife, Richard now must keep his son, Dillon, safe at all costs. His new companions at the Slough Echo seem trustworthy, but how long until the demon that took his wife, Skullface, attacks again?

RICK BASTION: After reuniting with his brother and friends, what has become of fading pop star, Rick Bastion?

I am going to be a bit ambitious with this review. Rather than one book review, I am going to give you three. (I thought that I was going to be reviewing a trilogy, however thankfully these 3 books are hopefully only the beginning.
I present to you the Hell on Earth series (Books 1 - 3)

Iain Rob Wright is rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors. When I finished book one of this series, I immediately had to read book two, and when I finished book two, I immediately jumped into book three. Now, I have to wait like everyone else for book four to be released, which can't come soon enough! Here are my brief thoughts on each book:

The Gates (Book One)
If I had to choose one word to describe Wright's endeavor with this series, that word would be Epic!. This book is completely character-driven. Some chracters you will root for, other characters you will despise. Either way, you are with each of them on their journey of survival.

Legion (Book Two)
This one starts off with longer chapters than the first book (I am a fan of relatively short chapters), though in this case, the longer chapters are okay, as roughly the first 35% of the book is filling in the blanks from the first book (which is awesome) and introducing some new characters. (Speaking of new characters, I just have to say that the Caretaker needs his own story/book!)

Both books 1 & 2 end with "Collateral Damage" which help explain the flip side of certain parts of the story. (which, again, is awesome!)

Book 2 also has two (very captivating) Bonus Short Stories by author +Stuart Keane (who I will definitely be checking out!)

Extinction (Book Three)
Just to give you a time-frame - at the beginning of this book, it has been six-weeks since the gates first opened. You would think, by this time, some parts of the story would seem slightly stale. This is not the case, as Wright in no way makes this story repetitive. In fact, he introduces two new characters in this one (Beedle & Molok) who are, once again, deserving of their own tale. (and the identity of Skullface - whoa!!).

Before I sign off, I just have to say that it was hard not talking about any of the characters, as I do not want to give any aspects of the story away. I do want to say, however, that I love the fact that at the end of book 3, Wright begins to allude to some of his other books (some of which I have not yet read). This opens the door to magnificent potential! There is so much to love about this series! I cannot recommend it enough!

I had to drop this down to three stars due to the ending. It doesn't stop so much as it just ends. Although the book doesn't say so, it's pretty clear this was written with a sequel in mind. I've pretty much had enough. We never spent enough time with any of the characters to be fully invested in them, and the gimmick of the story wore off by the time we got to the end of the third book--at least for me.

They’re all back!!!

I love everything that Iain Rob Wright writes. My favourite part is that he always brings back characters that you have learned to love in a new adventure. His stories are truly character-based and they will take you an amazing ride. You never know where his stories will go and who will pop up next. If you haven’t read this author yet, you need to get started, as I promise you, you will end up reading the entire catalog of work.

The third instalment in the Hell on Earth series was probably my favourite so far. There are so many great characters in these books and we got to see them all a little further into the apocalypse in this one. Iain ties up some of the overall plot threads nicely in this one but opens some others. I thought the books were going to be a trilogy but I now wonder if he will continue on. I’d love to see a novella about Vamps in the future. The book moves at a fast pace and is action packed from beginning to end. It’s also pretty emotional towards the end. Some great writing here. Another winner from Iain.

Good Storyline

I appreciate how the book reads. I can get into the story with most of the characters, pictures of them in my head and hear the conversations. I love when I can feel like I am part of the tale. LK

This series started out great! I loved it! It's a biblical apocalypse. Gates to Help are opening all over the world and demons are coming through to claim Earth and escape from Hell. The demons try to eliminate humanity to weaken God. Books 1&2 were very enjoyable. They were narrated by Nigel Patterson. This series takes place in the UK. Nigel had the perfect accent for this series and even did an great American accents for the few Americans in the story. Book 3 sadly uses a different narrator who, in my opinion, ruined this series. The story of book 3 is still good. If the series started out with Brad Gillam narrating, I would have given up after the first 10 minutes, but I was already invested in the series and wanted to complete it. Not only was the narration bad, but the editing was the worst I've ever heard! The narrator constantly messes up a line and then repeats it without editing out the mistake. I frequently hear him turning pages, drinking, and swallowing, as well as a few other background noises which were extremely distracting. His character voices all sounded almost the same, even the female characters. The narrator makes no effort to do any accents. The pacing of his narration was terrible as well. There were too many long pauses. I had to check to see if my phone died a few times. There were numerous mispronounced words! Another thing I didn't like was the yelling. He'd yell out some lines with his mic clearly too close. It was so loud that it was almost hard to understand. Nails on a chalkboard would have been more pleasant. My advice for this series would be to read it instead of listen. It's definitely worth the read. If you must listen, then get books one and two on audible and book 3 on Kindle. Having your phone's monotone voice narrate the ebook would be much better! And if the author sees this review and has any say in who narrates, please consider redoing this book with the original narrator if available, or at least a better narrator. This is a great series and deserves better than the horrible narration it currently has.

Armageddon

Full disclosure – I was provided a copy of this book by the Author as part of his Advanced Reader’s group, however I have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own.

The gates of Hell have opened. Demons and fallen angels alike roam the Earth freely laying waste to all in their path. Humanity has been reduced to a fraction of what it once was, but those who remain continue to fight. Guy Granger has succeeded in making the trip across the ocean from the US to the UK and is determined to locate his children. After landing in Portsmouth, he and a small group set out amid the destruction and demon armies to tackle the evil head on.

First off, I want to say that I find it difficult to write this review out of respect for the author not because it was that bad, but because it was just that good! “Extinction” is the third in the Hell on Earth series by Iain Rob Wright. While the timelines for the first two books “The Gates” and “Legion” ran pretty much simultaneously, you definitely want to read one or both of those before reading this new one. “Extinction” is action packed from start to finish and for me there were quite a few “what the heck!” moments that had me laughing, crying and even screaming at my kindle. For anyone who is a fan of Iain Rob Wright this book will not disappoint.

One of the main things that I adore about this author is his ability to weave a handful of core characters throughout his stories. “Extinction” also has a touch of this element present, however for me to say more would be to spoil the entire book and I will not do that. If where will be a Hell on Earth 4 is hard to say. I can see where there is closure in this story, but there also appears to be several other stories that could spring from this this series. Until that time, I am looking forward to whatever Iain releases next as I am sure I will be blown away.

Review: 📚 Extinction is devilishly delightful if struggling to push the series forward 📚

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Author (Platform): Iain Rob Wright (Kindle)
Length: 280 pages

Extinction is both exciting and frustrating. It sadly falls into the same trap many an apocalyptic horror does, with its no one is safe approach clashing with keeping consistent overarching storylines, most of which end in a sudden and sad whimper. Repetitive plot points and recycled dialogue is also beginning to crack the series’s dark veneer, and Extinction tries to fill in the gaps with far too much fluff.
On the flip side, Extinction does find its moments to advance its mythology, deepening the fantastical elements that compliment the brutal horror. When it isn’t repeating another rousing, existential speech, readers are treated to some juicy world-building, capping off the story with a much-needed break in the status quo.

Good Guy, Good Writer, Good Book

This book is the third in the series but unlike many series it stands up as a good read without having read the previous books. That said there is a thread that runs though almost all of Mr. Wright's books not just this series. Almost all of the authors books have a connection some more then others. If you enjoyed reading this book or any of the writers previous works, I highly recommend going though his entire catalog many of which he will gladly give to you for free because once you become a fan of this man's work you will be waiting patiently for his next book. Lastly as an American I find it interesting to read books set in other countries and learning the differences of other cultures. I highly recommend joining his fan club not just for the free books but of being able to speak with an author who's books you enjoy.

Surprised by how much I liked it!

The 1st book of Hell on Earth series popped up on my Facebook feed and I’d skim past it a bunch of times. Then I thought why not look it up on Amazon. I read the 1st one, then automatically downloaded the 2nd and 3rd. I am surprised that I like it as much as I do. At 1st I thought the descriptive gore was going to be too much but I got over that. The story is good and soon I didn’t want to stop reading. I really felt these characters and i wanted them to succeed. When they didn’t I was sad but when they did I cheered them on. I also liked how they came together to fight and help each other. Now I downloaded the 4th book and can’t wait to start it.

I couldn’t wait to read this book after having enjoyed The Gates and Legion, parts one and two of the Hell On Earth series, and Iain Rob Wright as usual didn’t disappoint. We back with the characters we’re familiar with from the previous books. Although not the final book of the series it had the feel of an ‘ending’ for a few of the characters’ stories. I’ll be interested to see where we go from here in book 4. Iain Rob Wright hooked me from the first time I read anything written by him and his very high standards are here in droves. He is a classy, imaginative and scary as hell writer that I just can’t get enough of. Now, where’s book four?

Ooops! Assumption.

There's a quote in Silence of the Lambs which goes something like this, "never assume, it'll just make an ass of u and me." When I reached the end of this book, which like it's predeccesors I thoroughly enjoyed, my first thoughts were...what the ......? I had assumed that the series was a Trilogy! I couldn't believe that I'd reached the finale. Thankfully, confirmed by a frantic internet search, I found out that more was still to come. To other readers I say, don't make my mistake, don't assume. To the author I say thanks for keeping me wanting more.

Third of this series... excellent read.

When I finished book 1 I knew I would want read books 2 and 3 as soon as possible, and having come late to the party I was able to do so immediately as they’d already been written. This book does not disappoint. Whilst some ‘good’ characters are lost and others survive, the ending to book 3 hints at other worlds being involved. Loved them! Sad there is not a book 4 to download, so I’ll just have to explore other books by the author. If you enjoy this genre then you’re in for a treat!

I first started this series optimistically, thinking all of Iain Rob Wright's other books were at least decent enough to complete, but so far as it's gone on it's gone from alright, to meh, to sort of pointless.

I was hoping this would be similar to Doom and feature some good demonic horror elements, but the demons never feel properly threatening or evil enough to feel particularly hateable to dangerous to our leads. Because I do have two more books in the series, I'll get to them eventually, but I'm still feeling disinterested.

Great third book. Felt like an ending with many of the plots and journeys coming to a close. Though the larger war isn't done yet. Great character moments from, General Wickstaff, Rick, Vamp and his crew. Others had great moments through fight sequences against the demons. Bravery moments for other characters. Deaths again happen at crucial moments where they come out of nowhere or you weren't expecting them. Descriptions were very visual as in previous books. Don't know what to expect going forward in the series. Though will continue it.

Best ever

Although it's the apocalypse, I can't help but love this world and it's all because of the author's mastery with characters and with action. He is an amazing storyteller! This is my third in this series. I think I'm in love with Iain Rob Wright. I can't, nor do I want to read anyone else. Now this is the risk you take should you choose to pick up his work. Well worth it! Even though hell factors into the storyline in a big way, I'm in heaven. I'm gushing; I know!

I have been enjoying the series but I thought this book was a bit rushed at the end. I felt the first two books were more character driven and this book started that way, but ended in a big rush and kind of silly in Hell. It seems like there will be another book coming and I will read it since I am vested in the series, but I hope the author brings it back around to the tone in his first two books. That being said, I would like to see a little romance between Tosco and the General!

Amazing and compelling read!

As like the other books i have been unable to put down this amazing book. The story is so gripping i am eager to turn the page to find out what happens next. Even when I think there is no more that could happen something else grips my attention. Iain Rob Wright is an amazing author and now definitely among my top favourites. I can't wait to read another of his books!!!

Well Iain. I finally read it EXTINCTION

The third story of the series (The Gates). What a great book it was. I loved how you brought characters from the last book back. It was like going back to your favourite soap and wondering will they live or die. It was well written with lots of tension hoping humanity will be restored. Liked the end also. Well done😄🔰

Great new twist on helll on earth

A new twist on the theory of bell and demons. Full of likable characters and enough new ideas to keep the story moving. A fun and quick trilogy. I am a Wright can and will keep reading his stuff. Always a new and interesting story with characters you can identify with.

And so ends the Hell on Earth series, or does it? Most horror novels bore me and the UK hasn't had a decent horror writer since the late James Herbert, but Iain Rob Wright is his natural successor in my opinion. Wright keeps the story going at a brisk pace with little time to draw breath. This has been an excellent series with this book the best of the three.

I really enjoyed this trilogy and I enjoyed the characters.
Vamps the gangster turned good guy with his gang mass and rick.

Excellent story and I'm sure I will read more of his books.

This series of books is like many of the author's other works.

His formula: 1) something bad is about to happen; 2)I we meet a bunch of people in a series of vignettes; 3) we follow those people around. Some die, most do not. Improbable connections occur throughout; 4) people survive and the story ends.

Very good

I think this book is very good. It kept my attention and I got really involved with the people as well. I don't know what I'd do if I had to fight demons. I hope I'm a better shot then a runner or I'd be a goner for sure. It's scary and provides food for thought. Hope you enjoy it. Happy Reading.

I cant believe how quickly I've finished this one!

Another brilliant chapter to the Hell on Earth series.

Iain Rob Wright has created not only a brutal dark war on earth but seemingly other planes of existence too. Along with a whole set of supernatural rules to go with it.
This adds a tonne of interest in the story for me.

I'm so so excited to read the next 3 😁
