A kidnapping offers an FBI agent a second chance at redemption in Elle James's Covert Cowboys, Inc. miniseries.

After witnessing the murder of his partner, former FBI agent Zach Adams suffers the weight of his own guilt. An unexpected assignment hunting down the members of the Texas gang responsible—who have kidnapped a local woman—could offer long-awaited revenge.

Zach understands the danger of tracking the cartel, but it's his desire for the sister of the missing person that he fails to anticipate. Determined to find her twin, Jacie Kosart is as strong-willed as she is alluring. But when Zach's ruthless search for the kidnappers lands Jacie in the crosshairs of deadly enemies, Zach realizes he'll risk everything to keep her alive…even if it means confronting the demons of his own past.

Award-winning author Elle James grew up as an air force military brat. She received her work ethic from her rock-solid father, her creative streak from her artistic mother and inspiration from her writing partner and sister, Delilah Devlin. As a former member of the army reserves and a current member of the air force reserves, she's traveled across the United States and to Germany, managed a full-time job, and raised three wonderful children. She and her husband have even tried their hands at ranching exotic birds (ostriches, emus and rheas) in the Texas hill country. Ask her, and she'll tell you what it's like to go toe-to-toe with an angry three-hundred-and-fifty-pound bird and live to tell about it!

Her adventures in the army and air force reserves, and the wild antics of her life on a small ranch in Texas give her fodder for mystery, suspense and humor in her writing. Elle writes gothic, paranormal mystery for the Harlequin Intrigue line and paranormal romantic comedy for Dorchester Publishing. A former manager of computer programming and project management professionals, Elle is happy she now has the opportunity to pursue her writing full time.

Very good book. So far I really like this series. Based on my experience with Elle James's books I don't see that changing any time soon. Zach has been invited to join Covert Cowboys Inc. after leaving the FBI. He is still suffering from guilt and anger over the death of his partner and isn't interested until he is offered the chance to go after the gang who did it. This pairs him with the sister of a woman kidnapped by the cartel. He is very attracted to her but tries to keep her out of the action, not wanting to be responsible for danger to another woman. But she won't be left behind and soon she's in just as much danger as her sister.

Jacie was great. She is a woman with a very nontraditional job of being an outdoor field guide. She knows her way around the woods, is handy with firearms, and is cool in a crisis. When her FBI agent twin comes to visit she gets worried that there is something wrong. When the two of them take out a pair of hunters things go bad quickly and Tracie ends up getting kidnapped. Jacie's cries for help bring in CCI who quickly discover that Tracie was investigating a possible mole in her office. She and Zach strike sparks off each other right away until she is able to convince him to help save her sister from his partner's fate. I really loved the fact that she was so independent. She was also able to show Zach that they could work very well together. I especially loved the part where they worked together to question the cartel member they caught - she was very convincing. She did have a tendency to disregard Zach's orders for her to stay back when he went to do something dangerous. It got her into hot water a couple times especially at the end. Though it also saved Zach's neck a couple times. I really enjoyed the strength of their attraction, but that they were also able to control it when they needed to.

Zach had left his job with the FBI after his thirst for revenge interfered with his job. He's not too interested in the job with CCI until Tracie's kidnapping gives him a lead into his own search. Plus he can't handle the idea of another woman going through what his partner went through. He is unwillingly impressed by Jacie and her capabilities. Because of them he can't deny her the opportunity to help him find her sister. I loved seeing his attempts to keep her out of the action and how she ends up in the middle of it every time. He is also fighting his attraction to her because he doesn't want to open up his heart to another risk. Even though he tried his protectiveness kept coming out. He also had his gentle moments with her when treating injuries and trying to comfort her. I loved the effect that helping Jacie had on his need for revenge. She was also able to enable him to look at a future for them in a more positive way.

I liked the book and I’ll read more by this author, but the lead female - who I liked - kept ignoring the instructions of the FBI guy. It got to the point where I didn’t care if she lived or got kidnapped or was killed, just to get the annoying character out of the way.

Still enjoyed the book and have checked out a couple other Harlequin Intrigue novels by Elle James out of the library! :-)

Tracie, an FBI Agent, comes to Big Elk Ranch where her twin sister, Jacie, is a guide to get away from her job and stress. Instead she is kidnapped by a drug cartel and Jacie is desperate to save her. She turns to Hank Derringer and Covert Cowboys, Inc. for help.

Zach Adams is a former FBI Agent whose partner was kidnapped, tortured and killed by the same gang they believe has Tracie. He has a lot of scars from that and a lot of regret that he couldn't save her. He takes this job with CCI and promises Jacie that he will get her sister back.

Jacie is tough, can shoot with the best of them and will do anything to get her sister back alive. After just a short time with Zach, she will do anything necessary to protect him too. They fall in love working together to find Tracie and save her before it is to late.

Wow. I really think I like this series as one of the best of Elle’s. Lot of action, torture, death, hate. Hank is an amazing man. His Covert cowboy’s are amazing. Zach suffered a huge loss watching his partner be tortured and raped and murdered by the drug cartel as well as he being tortured and able to save her. He quit the FBI and quit life expecting to go out on his own to find those responsible. There is a mole in the FBI or DEA that were responsible for their set up.
Tracie, Jacie’s twin sister who is a FBI agent, comes to visit her at the Elk Lodge where Jacie is a trail guide Tracie has gone rouge to try and find the FBI mole. The trail ride with the hunters goes off the rails and Tracie is kidnapped by the cartel. Zach is assigned to help Tracie find her sister. All hell breaks loose, Jacie is kidnapped, Zach wants no part of this. It brings back the horror of losing his partner. He can’t get attached to another woman who he may not save. There is too much to say here. Read on. Hank gets information that will rock his world. Will Tracie and Jacie be tortured and survive?

HIGHLY ENTERTAINING AND SUSPENSEFUL DRAMA

A fast moving drama about a man who started the Covert Cowboys and the men is was recruiting for his company. Zach is ex FBI and very disenchanted with the FBI. At first he rejects Hank's offer of employment but when he meets a woman who wants help, he is all in. Her sister is FBI and has been captured by the Cartel. A gripping and intense adventure

Another wonderful story. The danger that Jacie and Zack were in was riveting. The intricate way the story was told kept me guessing.

In James’ romantic suspense novel, former FBI agent Zach Adams carries a tremendous weight—the memories of witnessing his former partner’s death at the hands of cartel members. An unexpected job offer gives him the opportunity to track down the same gang but to save a kidnapped FBI agent before the same thing happens to her. Zach is prepared to do his job, but what he isn’t prepared for is the attraction he feels for the sister of the kidnapped agent. Determined to find her twin, Jacie Kosart is unstoppable and Zach will risk everything—including his life—to keep her out of the crosshairs of the enemy.

A fast-paced, well-written addition to the Covert Cowboys, Inc. series.

Better second entry to the Covert Cowboys series. Zach Adams is a former FBI agent who left the Bureau when he and his partner were betrayed in Mexico. He has no interest in working for Hank until he meets Kacie Kosart, a trail guide for the ranch and hunting lodge nearby. Jacie's twin Tracie has come to visit suddenly and is kidnapped on the trail. Events spiral quickly while Jacie searches for Tracie. Lots of threads here and an ongoing mystery, too. Satisfying.

In this cross between Cowboys and Agents, a corrupt agent costs lives and nearly costs more lives. The group seeking truth and justice and their lost friend team up to determine answers. The drug lords are warring and someone wants the other side to look guilty. Pasts collide with the present and ignite sparks.

Review of. "Taking Aim" .

This was a fast read, a little 'sticky' in the love scenes, but I overlooked that and enjoyed the book.
