Devotions for Sacred Parenting: Growing in Christ as You Raise Godly Children (A 52-Week Devotional – The Perfect Christian Gift for Seasoned, New, and Expectant Parents
Raising children is a sacred calling—and not for the faint of heart. It shapes the parent every bit as much as parents shape their children. In Devotions for Sacred Parenting, Gary Thomas, author of Sacred Parenting, delves deeper into the conversation and contemplates the soul-transforming journey of being a parent.
Many books have been written about how to parent your children effectively, how to become a better parent, and how effective parenting produces better kids. Devotions for Sacred Parenting explores an entirely different reality: how parenting transforms you, the parent. It explores the spiritual dynamics of parenting and why caring for your children is such an effective discipline in shaping your soul and forming the character of Christ within you.
With all new material, 52 devotions explore the spiritual dynamics of parenting. These life-related devotions are creative, fresh, and encouraging, inspiring mothers and fathers to look at parenting from a different perspective—as a holy and high calling from God, and as an opportunity to grow spiritually as you strive to raise godly children. Devotions for Sacred Parenting helps you understand how God is parenting you as you parent your children.

Great devotional to go with his book Sacred Parenting. Here is my favorite quote from his book Sacred Parenting - "The process of raising children requires skills that God alone possesses, and we are decidedly not God."
This book was given to us when our first child was born. I appreciate Gary Thomas' perspective in examining how God uses the relationships and challenges of our lives to shape our soul. His insights are grounding in Scripture, church tradition and experience. A helpful, and introspective work. Don't read this if you aren't open to examining your own heart and being changed.
I have benefited from each of his books I read and this is no exception. I strongly recommend this devo, and I would also recommend Sacred Parenting.
There were a few really good devotions in here that really made us stop and think. Then there were quite a few devotions that made it clear that the author was a generation or more older than us… Our relational dynamics and reality are definitely not his with his time on the golf course and other different ways of approaching and interacting with the world. What was most problematic for me was his view of children—yikes! There were some deeply troubling reflections. We believe that all children have a God bestowed dignity and innocence. Even children who need our love in guidance and support are worthy of respect.
Genuinely surprised by this devotional. It’s been on our shelf for years, and it’s cheesy cover and purple pages kept me away, but there are some beautiful reflections on parenting and marriage here. It also has one of the best written descriptions of what being a child of divorce is like, that for me, as a child of divorce, meant a great deal.
Every single chapter was thought-provoking, biblical and practical. I highly recommend this devotional for Christian parents. Read it and you will be blessed and challenged.
The book leaves more for me to learn, but the author seems to have found biblical quote to fit the need for the devotion and I can see that they are being presented in such that the thoughts of the authors perspective which may not be the way about them. I can not tell if the stories are really well thought up to make a point or actually a part of someone's life. Either way this book is written with a great style and would be easy to believe.
I really love all of Gary Thomas' books, and this devotion is no exception. Great insight into everyday parenting, and how we can grow our children (and our family) closer to God.
