Entomologist Frank Travis takes his family on a weeklong vacation to a remote resort in the Amazon jungle. Frank doesn’t mind that the kids will be tagging along; he’s more worried that they won’t share his sense of adventure, especially how he is always bragging that everything is bigger in the Amazon. Words he will soon regret.
After an earthquake, the family gets separated and must struggle to survive in a perilous region of the jungle never explored before. An unbelievable world filled with incredible creatures and impending danger, certainly not the vacation everyone had in mind.
This was a good and entertaining book. The story started off nice and easy introducing you to the characters and keeping the story light. When the story picks up, it has a lot of action happening with all the characters, which makes the book interesting and keeps the reader wanting to know what will happen next. I would consider this a fun horror not to be taken too seriously, yet there is still quite a bit of violence. The one problem with the writing that really bothered me were the reactions and emotions from the main characters. The emotional response to many horrific events was severely lacking and unrealistic for myself as a reader. The storyline is very good and a fast read. The author also entertains with wonderful information on the science of Entomology, which I felt was very interesting and added to the story. The book was edited well and that is an important plus for me.
I will read more of Gerry Griffiths books and I do recommend this book because it was so entertaining.
While there's nothing shocking or "undiscovered" in this book, it's still fairly fun and campy. The jungle hides everything you'd expect: The characters get a quick intro, settle into their jungle resort, and then bam! They're off running from jungle danger to jungle danger. What the book lacks in gore, it makes up for in adventure.
Quick read. Action is plentiful but staccato-like, nothing of substance, could not get emotionally involved with any of the characters and that made it mostly forgettable
Not as scary or as gory (and hence, a bit less fun) as the first book. But, I did enjoy our protagonist family and their journey into the Amazon. Never did find out why some creatures were massive. Oh well, no biggie. It was still fun to read and I did like the beasties when they showed up as well. Good times. Giant bugs mostly. Now, I need to move on to the third adventure. What will they run into in Africa? Ha, more good times await! I liked this book and will recommend it. Enjoy.
I read this book completely through. I mean it is 2:39 a.m. This was a great book with decent language. Although the action was not none stop the book did not lag and kept me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed it. People lost in the Amazon jungle. How intense is that. Will be looking for a sequel. Remember, in the Amazon, all is not what it seems.
This was an interesting book and I enjoyed it. Did want to strangle the youngest son Dillon but to me it was his parents fault for not instilling the proper training not to go after baby animals and reptiles before heading on an Amazon adventure.
Very entertaining and enjoyable read. It had several different adventures going at once since the characters were split up by accident. Would recommend it.
This book should be labeled for young adults , it's not too gory and scary enough with children involved i as a adult i would not read anymore of this aurhor
