Robin T. Popp grew up watching Star Trek and reading Nancy Drew, Robert Heinlein, Sharon Green and Piers Anthony. She loved the daring and romantic exploits of heroic characters on grand adventures in otherworldly places. It wasn’t long before she wanted to write such tales to share with others. Though she was forced to take a thirty-year detour through the real world – which certainly wasn’t without its share of adventures – armed now with two masters degrees, a fulltime job and a family, she has taken the first steps toward realizing her original dream of becoming an author. Too Close to the Sun, a futuristic romance published in July 2003, was her first novel. Out of the Night is her second novel and represents her first foray into another of her favorite alternate realities – the realm of vampires. Robin lives southwest of Houston, Texas with her husband, three kids, three dogs, two frogs, one rabbit and a mortgage. She is living the American dream.

“Immortals: The Haunting” by Robin T. Popp is book number six in the ‘Immortals’ series. I’ve read ‘em all and there’s only one book left to come which will be a collection of three short stories; one by each author who contributed to the series. Even though this book is not about one of the main immortal characters from the story (though we do get an appearance by one), it’s still a very good read—especially for paranormal fans.
Mai is a wood nymph who joined in the great battle against an ancient demon who tried to destroy our world. Her magic has been unreliable since the battle and she is suffering from symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder to boot--nightmares, hallucinations, and voices. Heck, her last hallucination almost killed her! If it hadn’t been for a shadowy savior who appeared to save her, she’s would have been toast. Now her dreams are filled with her dream man who makes exquisite love to her…but she keeps waking up before the big finish, darn it. Good thing she just met a real man who makes her heart race and seems to like what he sees too. Who needs a dream guy?
Nick is a dreamwalker. He’s also a chameleon, able to assume to visage of whatever he chooses. Both of these abilities are his heritage and his duty. His ‘day job’ is working as a bodyguard and survival trainer. He’s happy with his life the way it is, good money and plenty of women. The absolute LAST thing he’s looking for is his ‘spirit match’. He’s interested in Mai…very interested. Then strange things begin to happen around Mai and soon Nick realizes the woman from his dreams is his match. How can he continue a relationship with Mai now that he knows his perfect other is real?
Very absorbing and very hot! These two will have you tingling at the same time you’re either looking over your shoulder or praying for really, really sweet dreams! They are both strong characters who aren’t used to needing, or asking for, help and it takes them a while to understand that assistance doesn’t mean weakness. Popp’s paranormal world is a cool mixture of ancient and American Indian lore set in New York. Her supporting characters introduce a mystery and a tragedy which (I’m pretty sure) will be continued in either a short story or an offshoot novel. The plot contained quite a few surprises for me and even some humor to round out my favorite things.
For those who have been following this series, “Immortals: The Haunting” is a not-to-miss continuation. For fans of Robin T. Popp, this is an excellent addition to her works. For paranormal fans, it’s just a darn good read. And take my advice…you may want to cover up your mirrors before you start the book! (Heh, heh)
World Building: A+ (love the new supernatural species we are introduced to) Mythology: A+ Plot-Twists: A (great twist, not telegraphed at all) Villains: A (they made this book spooky-scary) Girl Power: B+ Guy-Hero: A+ Love-Interests: A Suspense: A Feels: A+
For you clean-readers: this book DOES have mature content. You'll need to do some self-editing or scene-skipping to read this one.
This was such a great story. Mai (Lexi and Darius' friend from their book) is a wood nymph who has handled the year since the Immortals defeated the Old One badly. Suffering from PTSD, her magic is on the fritz and she has hallucinations. When her therapist is killed, her reporters instincts apparently go on the fritz too, because she just decides that the super hot man who helped save her and heal her is another figment of her over-stressed imagination. He's not. Nick is a spirit-walker who has control over dream realms, and he finds his spirit mate in Mai, but he doesn't realize that she is who he's been protecting and loving in his dreams. Yet he is drawn to Mai. She calls Nick when her neighbor Sarah goes missing, (into a mirror) and her big sis Jenna takes it hard, so they try to help. Meanwhile an expose that Mai's been working on has her fighting to stay alive. She and Nick save Mai, but inadvertently kill Sarah. We see a glimpse of Jenna and Dave at Mai and Nick's wedding, so I think they are the couple who set up the short story in book #8.
Mai, Lexi’s wood nymph friend is in danger from what might be hallucinations and is rescued by a mysterious spirit walker who turns out to be a security expert.
Okay story but all the mirror stuff seemed childish to me. The way the situations and characters were connected to the story seemed awkward and the romance was too easy. And the romance was too easy.
I wanted more to Mai’s story. And I felt badly for the genie and the sisters.
Footnote: 1) I don’t mind when there’s more than one POV, but I don’t it when there’s separation to indicate the change. It gets too annoying. Not sure if it was only my Kindle version or all, but I hate it.
Fave scenes: little Zach, the lightning bolt necklace, removing the bullets and the lava floor.
I loved getting to read more about Mai. She was intriguing in the previous books she had part of. I also loved Nick. The two had some crazy things happen to them, and I've never been so happy for a HEA! The situations Mai found herself in were terrifying to read, but fortunately she had not only Nick, but her dear friends, Lexi & Darius. I definitely love this series, and will absolutely be getting more books by this author!!
OMG!! It was crazy how he was able 2 feel her and go 2 her rescue. There should have been a way 2 bring back the innocent girl that was trapped and died over a very stupid man cause he didn't think b4, he opened his mouth. It's good that she was able 2 have her powers working again. If the goddess was there 4 the wedding then she should have given them some kind of gift especially since she is the goddess mother 2 her grandson. I can't wait 2 read more soon
Mai Groves is an investigative reporter that is having trouble with hallucinating things that no one else sees for about a year and a half now. Mai keeps dreaming of man but doesn't know who he is. Nick Blackhawk is a chameleon and spirit walker that doesn't believe in spirit mates. When dream becomes reality Mai is left reeling. Can she stop these dreams or hallucinations? Find out in The Haunting.
The Haunting is book 7 of The Immortals series and is written by Robin T. Popp. This is a fast paced book. The storyline contours with Mai and Nick. Their ride to happiness is threatened by a genie. How do you outwit a genie? Read asking to find out just how difficult that journey can be.
Believing in the unexplainable and in what you know is true. Finding your other half and being willing to take the chance, even though you thought you did not believe.
Reporter and wood nymph, Mai Groves from The Darkening) is living with PTSD after her involvement in battling evil with the Immortals. She's convinced she's cured but after a brutal attack in her apartment she decides she might be wrong. She knows she was assaulted but there's no sign of forced entry. She knows her nose was broken and she was bleeding and bruised. She is sure she didn't imagine the mysterious man who appeared out of nowhere and scared off her assailant. But there's no forced entry and only the faintest bruise on her face. Her nose is tender but whole and there's no trace of blood, anywhere. Her hallucinations had never been this bad before but Mia knows she didn't imagine this when her shower fogged mirror displays the word Remember. Scared, confused and panicked, Mai moves into a new apartment and when her neighbor goes missing, Mai calls the only person she can think of, Nick Blackhawk.
Nick Blackhawk is many things. He's Los Paseantes de Espíritu (The SPirit Walkers) who have assorted abilities. One is that of a chameleon which means they can assume the shape of almost any living creature. Nick is also a bodyguard, mostly to politicians, and teaches survival course to corporate types through his company Blackhawk Securities. When we first meet him he's assumed the identity of his client, taken two bullets meant for the politician, and is waiting for backup. Later, after he meets Mai, we learn that Nick can spirit walk, in which is leaves his corporeal form and can walk the spiritual planes (dream and wish realm, subconscious etc.) and he can follow residual energy (spirit fingerprint) which he uses to help locate the missing neighbor. But in searching for the missing neighbor, Mai and Nick will uncover much great threats (including a genie and a wish realm and a .
Nick and Mai meet in an interesting way and they share an unusual bond (spirit mates). It was very fun to read and interesting to learn about. I wish we could have learned more about Nick's mom though. The chameleon stuff was so freaky but very fascinating. I thought the spirit walker parts were intriguing and cool, especially when Mai could go too. I didn't really understand what a shaman was/does (besides dream healing) and why Nick didn't want to be one. I could have used a little more explanation. I felt so sorry for Mai when she's trying to explain the what she's endured and Darius, Lexi and Nick don't seem to believe her. At times I wasn't sure if she was or wasn't hallucinating and I felt her frustration and worry and anxiety completely. And then the twist in the end with the genie (with Sarah and Nick) broke my heart a little. I didn't like Mia in The Darkening but I really liked the made over Mai from this book. I also really enjoyed Mai and Nick falling for one another and Nick's avoidance and misconception about who Mia was or wasn't. That was fun while it latest. I liked Nick for just always trusting her and being a good guy. Overall this was a cute and sweet story with plenty of mystery and uncertainty to keep you interested and always guessing.
I think this one can be read as a stand alone book without any prior knowledge of previous books.
Off to the final book and I look most forward to Jenna's story (the neighbor's sister) in this next one.
The heroine feels like she's losing her mind as she's tormented by hallucinations and dream like attacks. She seeks out the hero, a man well versed in dream walking but they're meeting was less than smooth as he thinks she's a stripper sent to him for his birthday. Despite this embarrassing misunderstanding, when her neighbor goes missing, she instantly calls him for help.
The hero and heroine have been meeting in their dreams but never knowing who the other person was but the hero knows the mystery woman to be his spiritual mate. Despite the fact that he's a witch and a pretty powerful dream walker he was pretty normal. The same vibe could be said about the whole book. It was typical romance with spurts of paranormal action.
Most of the book is spent with the hero and heroine getting to know each other by going out to dinner and such and I did love their chemistry and ease with one another. But then the heroine would suddenly be kidnapped or attacked and the hero would have to save her. It didn't really flow between the romance and then the action segments. That being said I really love the hero. He wasn't a macho man or possessive or overtly manly but he had presence and he was charming without being a rake. He did everything in his power to help the heroine and didn't hesitate to dream walk for her despite his aversion to the talent. And I really liked the heroine because she held herself together so well in the face of everything going on. She cried in secret when the hero hurt her feels but she was strong enough to accept his help for the sake of her friend. She fought tooth and nail for her life in every dangerous situation and was never willing to give up, something I admired. I guess in this world paranormal creatures are out in the open as everyone seemed to know she was a woodland nymph but her nature never really played a large rule in the scheme of things. I really liked this book and I can say I enjoyed it most out of the series.
In the seventh book of the Immortals series, Robin T. Popp brings us the story of Mai and Nick, neither of whom is actually immortal. They are magical creatures, though. Mai is a wood nymph, which I gather means she can teleport and is extremely horny. Nick is a Spirit Walker who can travel through the spiritual realms of dreams, wishes, etc. He can also morph into any living thing bigger than a hawk. Mai is also a reporter working on exposing a corrupt politician who is not pleased about her digging into his campaign. Also, Mai's new apartment building boasts a creepy maintenance guy who happens to have a genie under his control (loosely, which is unfortunate for all of them. This is not a nice Robin-Williams-type genie.) This is my so-far favorite of the immortals series. Mai and Nick are quite amusing characters with crackling chemistry. I enjoy the idea of a spirit mate, as well. Will, the super, is so creepy he's comical, and it's nice to get visits from Lexi and Darius from an earlier volume of this series. Highly recommended. Would work almost as well as a standalone, so if you haven't read the whole series, don't worry, you won't be lost.
I picked this up on Amazon mostly because the cover and blurb looked intriguing. I was pleasantly surprised to find a solid story with exceptionally likeable characters. I enjoyed Mai Groves, and felt she was someone I could see myself having coffee with. Nick Blackhawk is a drool-worthy hero to the story. I loved his hard-as-nails exterior, his protective nature and his softer side as well. I like the idea that he is a dream walker who can traipse around the spiritual planes, and that Mai turns out to be his spirit mate. I think the story would be more enjoyable had I read the prior one, which I can only assume told the full tale of Lexi and Darius. The other thing I found a little hard to get around was the abrupt change of POV from characters. I actually had to go back once or twice in order to see where the actual shift had taken place. Overall, a good read, and I do plan on looking up the other stories in this series.
Another entry in the Immortals multi-author series - and a good read. Darius and Lexi [introduced in book 2:] make several cameo appearances. Some of the best lines concern Lexi's mother-in-law [Sekhmet:] as she's trying to explain to her [relatively normal:] mother that the reason people are more worried about Sekhmet being upset than her 'Because you don't make the Nile run red with blood when you're pissed off'. You've got to love it!

OK, I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. This book was the first dud that I've come across in this multi-author series. There may be some information given in the book that is important to future books in the series so I'm not going to say "Don't bother reading this one." but it's pretty weak. This book deals with the wood nymph who was at the big offing of the Old One demon in book 4. She's not a strong character and her future mate just wasn't fleshed out very well either. This was like those movies where you catch yourself yelling at the screen. If you are dedicated to the series then go ahead and read this book, otherwise feel free to skim your way through in about an hour.
After the showdown with Tain and his Immortal brothers, Mai has suffered from hallucinations and problems with her magic. So when she is seemingly attacked but then left without a scratch, she isn't sure if she's going crazy or is really under attack. Nick Blackhawk, a chameleon, has heard her call from help across the dream planes, and finds himself her appointed protector.
This book left me quite confused at times, with reality blending into illusion and lots of sudden turns in the plot. Mai and Nick are an interesting pair. I feel a bit more apathetic about this installment than others.
Im not sure what it was about this one. But it wasnt as good as the others in this series. I really like Mia and remembered her from the other books. Nick was hot! But pretty arrogant. Couple of time I wanted to smack him. The action where Mia thinks she is hallucinating was very real and exciting . But the other parts kinda fell flat for me. I do look forward to reading more about Dave in the next book tho. The Spirit walking was kinda cool as well. Like I said I dont know what it was that made it just ok for me.
This is another in the Immortal series. This series is written by four different authors. This one that’s place eighteen months after Lexi & Darius meet and fall in love but I think I have missed an installment because … well you know how it goes. This is an alternate universe Mai the dippy ‘wood nymph’ from the other book is now suffering post traumatic stress from the past war and thinks she is losing her mind but the truth is she is being haunted on two different fronts. Nick the ‘spirit walker’ is the male lead in this adventure. Man this would be great if she could write better!
The epic battle is over, but Mai is still suffering from the aftermath. Hallucinations that hurt her, and a hero in her dreams that saves her. Is anything true? When threats make her leave her home for anything else, she´ll have to decide if she can trust herself. Nick is from a forgotten line of dreamwalkers, when he saves a mysterious woman he has no idea she´s his mate for life. Could he find her, and is he really willing to mate for life? PNR romance, suspense, action and smutty fluff in a great combo. Listened to the audio version and the narrator was great as always. 4.5 Stars
Exciting, thrilling, spellbinding great read. Mai is a wood nymph who accidentally ends up on the bad guys radar. They want something she has but she doesn't know about it. Enter Nick.....hot, hard and godlike..... Sparks explode
Another wonderful read! I love how they are engaging side characters, like Mai, and sharing their stories! It's one big family and I'm so happy we're learning about each member! As with the other 6 books in the series this ended in a way that wrapped my heart in girly warm fuzzies. I closed the book with a smile of satisfaction, knowing another member of my book family is content and happy. :-) Just read all of them! You know you want to! ;-) XXOO ~Hope

Thank god! I was freaking thinking Nick was trapped forever! I always cry then everything is ok. I'm telling you the woman who read for this book and the others is AWESOME! She makes the story so much better! Immortal series is always great to read and listen too. Wonder if there will be anymore books!

Interesting. Hero, for all that he didn't want to find a mate, seemed happy when he realized the h and the person he was dreaming about were one and the same. Heroine did have her moments of being a bit...stupid. At least she realized she had a problem. Too bad nobody believed her.
I had not heard of these books, but I'm glad I came across this one. Really good reading, I like all the magic, it's right up my alley. The love storyline really enhanced the book even more.
