this hooked me up from the first chapter

i don't know where to start? the betrayal or the shocking news that mehpisto has a brother or even the heart wrenching flashback we saw????

this volume was packed with so much to offer, a beginning of a new arc in BlueExcoricst where i don't know if i can predict anything??

all i can say that it is epic, we saw new sides from our characters today, a new light showed us the light and dark in their soul/past; not to mention the art was gripping, perfectly illustrated.

i need volume 13

I like how the story keeps your attention. That's what I like about this series. Well, and the lovely art and the backgrounds and attention to detail and of course the character designs are pretty good. Story getting interesting.

This volume gave me whiplash, after the joyful school feel of the last installment this one was as dark as the series has ever been. We finally learn about Kamiki's dark past and it made my heart break for her. I'm still not sure what to think of Shima's arc but I think him being a straight up traitor is too far fetched. Onto the next one

5/5 estrellas.

considering dropping the manga after shima’s betrayal ://

in my opinion, i feel like they could’ve used any other character to do what he did. i know it’s one of those “ooh big plot twist!! u never saw that one coming, huh?” moments, but it just really sucked :/.

i liked shima’s character up until that point. his motives are also weak and flimsy. he was such a cool character before, now he just seems like a conceited a-hole ☹️.

it was really nice seeing kamiki’s backstory though and seeing the exwires team up to go save her.

i hope the next volume will be better. if shima’s to be redeemed, i hope they do it properly and that what he’s done doesn’t get swept under the rug.

This volume made me sad. There were so many unexpected twists and turns that I don't remember being in the anime. It kept the volume super interesting and I need to see what happens to the characters.

Izumo Kamiki’s backstory and origins of the curse of nine tails is amazing.
And I’m really liking this new character:
Nemu Takara a puppet master summoner who can control dolls.
ONWARDS!

Kamiki confronts Takara at the Festival and asks him point blank if he’s in the Illuminati, as Arthur Angel and Lightning deal with one of the two Vatican spies. Arthur reveals his ruthless side when he says that since there is another spy, he doesn’t mind if this one dies! Under torture, the spy reveals that the Illuminati are going to kidnap a girl from the Japan Branch within the hour, and that girl is none other than Izumo Kamiki!

Shura instructs the exwires to begin a search for Kamiki. Meanwhile, Kamiki is still confronting Takara when help arrives… except this help isn’t quite what anyone bargained for. How can this trusted person be a member of the Illuminati? Nothing is what it seems, apparently. As if things aren’t confused enough, Mephisto arrives on the scene. One can never be sure what side he’s on. And right behind him is Lucifer, Mephisto’s big brother, who makes no bones about being a part of the Illuminati. According to Lucifer, they have declared war against the Knights of the True Cross. Lucifer and his cohorts depart – with Kamiki – to everyone’s chagrin. Mephisto instructs Yukio to take the exwires and get Kamiki back!

When they arrive at their destination, which is a theme park, they begin to realize something is not quite right here. Although supposedly visitors come to visit the Inari Taisha shrine, an inordinate number of them are obsessed with the food and with staying at Dream Town Inari. What’s up with that?

In this volume of Blue Exorcist, the exwires are faced with a major dilemma. Is one of their own a traitor, or is there more to the story, something they aren’t seeing? Betrayal is a bitter pill to swallow, especially in one who has been trusted as this person was. Rin gives him the benefit of the doubt, but Suguro is ready to rip his head off.

This volume also delves more deeply into Kamiki’s background than we’ve been before, and we catch glimpses of a horrific childhood, which has made her the standoffish, non-trusting person she has become. Not surprising, considering her parents. I don’t know what to think about the traitor in their midst – is he really a traitor, or is something else happening that we aren’t aware of? I’m inclined to give the person the benefit of the doubt, but I suppose time will tell. The appearance of the masked Lucifer is interesting. Who is the man behind the mask? And what is his agenda? A bonus at the end of the volume is an illustrated guide to demons, which is interesting.

So many questions that need answering! Looking forward to the next volume!

There is so much going on this volume, I did not expect that plot twist at all. I don't think any of us saw it coming.

*MAJOR SPOILER AHEADS. DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THIS SPOILER*
This is more of me making notes than leaving a review. Lol

So, this volume commences with Izumo confronting Takada and a fight between them ensues as Izumo is sure that he is the Illuminati spy. However, the big plot twist and reveal was that the spy is actually Shima!! He knocks Izumo unconcious while the hire ups in the Illuminati arrive for them to make their departure, but not before the leader, Lucifer, the older brother of Mephisto, declares war on the whole order of the True Cross. With that they launch attacks and destroy the barriers within each of the True Cross's branches. Despite, Shima's unexpected betrayal everyone wants to believe in their friend. Meanwhile Mephisto orders Yukio and the Esquires to go to Izumo's birthplace to go rescue her and scope things out.

Once the group arrives. There are many sus things happening in the town, but above all we finally get a reveal of Izumo's backstory and her reason for becoming an exorcist. Essentially, as she once stated, she comes from a long line of Shine Priestesses. Their job is to guard this relic that holds this Ninetail fox. The Izumo bloodline has divine blood, demon blood, making them important for this job. Izumo's mother was a strong priestess, but she was very neglectful and irresponsible with her duties. She loved this man who wanted nothing to do with Izumo or her little sister. Thus, Izumo's mother grew resentful of her daughters blaming them for that man. Soon, she becomes possessed by the Ninetail fox and attacks her daughters. In desperation, Izumo contacts the Illuminati for then to help her mother be rid of the possession. Ofc, though, it's obvious the Illuminati are only preying on Izumo and just used anything to their advantage to get close.

And as such this is how the volume ends.

Talk about plot twists. So much backstory and plot going on in this volume. Really not much else to say, but look forward to seeing what the Illuminati further plans to do in their goal of uniting Assiah and Gehenna as one, of bring true peace, and the nothingness that existed before everything was created. Which honestly, sounds loony and just like a death sentence for everyone if they reach their goals, but secret societies yo!

4.5/5

Holehhhhhhh. Fucking shit.

After the ending of volume 11, I was eager to get to this volume and it didn't disappoint. I am so here for this incoming arc with The Illuminati and Kamiki and her family being somehow involved? AND SHIMA'S BETRAYAL (and Todo's involvement?!). Lucifer and the attack on the school and so many emotions.

Omg. It was all so much.

I also love how clueless Angel constantly is. Yet that doesn't stop him from being an arrogant ass. Lol, gotta love it.

The reveal of the just who the real spy was was absolutely wild. That Shima is still ultimately himself, even more so (though we are seeing some potential cracks in the cheerful facade). I'm really curious about Takara and his role as "coordinator" and how the puppet seems to be its own actor so to speak.

I sort of get sending the kids after Shima and Izumo but at the same time it still seemed a bit foolish. NONE of the others could be spared for this? What about Shima's brothers? Also, the paneling of background info on the plane was a bit ... dumb, lol. Why y'all just talking casually on a flipping airplane with other passengers able to listen in on your shit? I liked seeing how Bon and Koneko are dealing with the betrayal of Shima and it's going to be interesting to see how things all play out.

The Illuminati peeps seem equal parts annoying and just grody. That man, Gedoin, especially is just so creepy. But it seems like the others definitely think less of "demons" and I wonder in their plans if they see Izumo and her family as just specimens. I wonder how this will play out with Shima because so far he seems pretty content to just coast along with this group, especially since the betrayal seemed to come a bit out of left field. He mentions Todo talking to him and that makes sense but there was never any other indication that Todo had talked to anyone other than Mamushi and the eldest Shima brother. I hope more on that is elucidated on.

And poor, poor Izumo. Man, she's had it rough and you can totally see why she keeps people at arm's length. Tamamo being willing to throw everything away just for a man... She really is the worst and I do not feel sorry for her at all. Izumo and Tsumuko need to be wrapped in bubble wrap and protected, especially Izumo. Poor girl just can't catch a break from anyone. Her mom, the fox spirits; just for Izumo!
