The Infinite League

Rate this book
Emily Watts had always wanted to be a police officer, just like her father. For her, the police are the real heroes of the world. Not those people that fly above her head every day, flaunting their special abilities and gifts and making ordinary people feel so inconsequential.

When Emily is involved in the accidental death of Andromeda, one of the world’s greatest and most beloved heroines, she finds herself in serious trouble. Faced with the threat of a prison sentence that would forever separate her from her son and sister, the government gives her an opportunity to avoid incarceration. It would mean lying to the entire world---and becoming what she detests the most.

Emily Watts is about to go on a journey that will change her world forever. But she’s going to discover that the death and cover-up of Andromeda was only the beginning of a dark conspiracy hiding behind the shiny illusion of the Infinite League.

JOHN YEO JR. has been a soldier, a casino dealer and pit boss, an administrative assistant, an actor, and a perfume salesman. These days, he runs a comics & collectible store with his wife. He also happens to love telling stories.

He’s far less interesting than the characters in his books, but his daughter thinks he’s a tireless super-hero fueled by chocolate and soda----so that’s okay. His wife just wants him to stop adding titles to his growing collection of DVDs.

He’s the author of THE BARREN DAGGER, THE INFINITE LEAGUE, THE KING'S TOURNAMENT, MAMA SAUVETERRE'S CURIOSITY SHOPPE, and he's also dabbled a bit with graphic novels. His next project, I LAUGH TOO MUCH, arrives in 2021.

He and his family live in northwest Indiana.

Thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Books about superheroes are not usually my thing. The synopsis sounded pretty good and there was a nice cover attached, so I decided to give this book a go. This book was highly enjoyable and I do believe the entertainment rating is very high. As a critical reviewer, I had fun to read this book, but it wasn't one of my favorites.

Most definitely a very enjoyable book. The necessary portions of action are there, as well as the plot-twists and great characters. The writer made some decisions in this book that didn't feel natural and weren't good for the story, in my opinion. I do believe that John Yeo Jr. is a great author in the superhero-genre and I'd love to see more books, or maybe even a bookseries about some awesome superheroes with creepy/astonishing abilities!

Gripping and compelling!

It's all about how a story is told and how the story plays out, and of course, the characters. The characters have a great depth, especially Emily, who is the main character and in deep turmoil. She has an interesting backstory that plays very well with her current predicament. She can either lie or go to prison. I like how this story was written and told, and it is filled with twists that are unpredictable. One minute you think she's going to do one thing, and then something else happens. I really enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more of Yeo's work.

If you like an action-packed, quick paced heroine story...you're going to love this book!

So much happened in the span of 288 pages that my mind has yet to catch up! If you enjoy comics and superheroes...stop what you're doing and read this now!!

You will be rooting for Emily from the second you meet her...trust me she's going to take you on one heck of a wild ride! The unexpected will happen, you will laugh, cry, and go into full shock. Mature, witty, and sometimes brutally violent moments await you!

Everyone enjoys a good underdog story...right?

Thank you Goodreads for sending me this book. I would say that this is an enjoyable read, but you definitely have to follow the plot as there are quite a few twits and turns. It is an action packed story and the basic premise is superheroes. The main character Emily has to follow a journey (full of superheroes)to cover up the accidental death of a well known heroine. If you like fast paced read, this is the book for you.

The story Worm tried to tell

I learned of this book on Goodreads and read it using Kindle Unlimited. The Infinite League is a fascinating superhero story. It's filled with action that isn't watered down. Death and destruction fill the pages. The only reasons it doesn't get five stars are the desperate need for thorough editing and the disappointing ending chapter. The rest of my review will contain spoilers.

The Good.
Emily is already a trained fighter and heroic woman at the start of the story. She doesn't magically get these abilities like so many superhero characters do.

Andromeda and Sadaf death scenes were unexpected. The simplicity hooked me.

The early hospital visit was played perfectly.

I also enjoyed the confinement dilemma Emily had with the DSA.

The gauntlets sewing themselves into Emily's arms was a fascinating concept.

The Shock Daddy fight was a highlight of the book. It was right up there with Wormhole's death.

How Seth framed Emily was believable and depressing. It added to her character.

I absolutely loved the concept of a chronal bomb. I could vividly see it's affects.

I enjoyed how Necromancer saved Emily from DeathTek. His infiltration was a great reveal.

The true identity of the Ambassador was a fun revelation.

The Bad.
This book crucially needs better editing and formatting. Paragraphs are indented at random intervals, chapters have awkward spacings, and there are numerous typos. I lost count of how many times blond/blonde were used incorrectly. August Lambino becomes August Gambino for several pages, then becomes Lombino again. Colonel Bridge is introduced as Colonel Bridges. Fiance is used for a woman instead of fiancee. The list goes on and on. These mistakes easily accounted for a review star.

The author is a little preachy early on. He makes a point to show how Emily's best friend is an oppressed gay, Muslim woman. Here name and hijab easily point this out. It was clear the author just wanted to make a statement about inclusion that should be obvious to all people.

The ending was too sappy. I wish the happy final chapter had been deleted. The book was better without it.

The Technical.
There is a ton of violence and profanity in this book.
