When former private investigator Kate Reed hears that the once-famous rock band founded by four high school classmates is taking a second shot at stardom, she’s as thrilled as everyone else in Crescent Creek. The group’s plans include a nationwide comeback tour, a new CD and a splashy reunion concert for loyal fans in their Colorado hometown.
Unfortunately, the joyful celebration ends almost as quickly as it began when the quartet’s drummer suddenly dies under mysterious circumstances. As the police launch an investigation, Crescent Creek buzzes again—with rumors of murder, jealousy and revenge.
Soon after hearing the tragic news, Kate is recruited by a local resident to look into the musician’s death. The resulting inquiry encompasses a strange mix of clues: a turquoise ice climbing rope, a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy motorcycle, a guitar linked to a legendary rock star, a bright red Golden Gate Bridge keychain and a baffling brown substance smeared on the sleeve of the victim’s vintage Van Halen T-shirt.
French Silk & Cyanide, Book 16 in the Sky High Pies Cozy Mystery series, includes a tasty trio of Nana Reed’s Sky High recipes!
This was an interesting premise that I’ve seen before in other book series. It is a classic murder option in mystery novels. The murder that was made to look like a suicide has many different ways that it could take place, however, in this book we got the classic hanging. I didn’t like how obsessed the sister of the victim’s girlfriend was about the murder and breaking laws to get access to information about the case. Despite that, Katie worked hard to figure out that murder.
The plot is very well formed and the characters, new and old, are interesting. The romance between Zack and Kate is still strong, but there is still no engagement. A suicide turns into a Underhill keep
I have been enjoying this series. The mysteries are engaging as are the characters. The bonus is the recipes at the end. It's nice watching Katie and Zack mature as a couple.
The old high school band with a huge following is getting back together when one of them is murdered. A few characters are a little to sappy for me. Good read but not my favorite Sky High Pies favorite.
Another great book. I love all the memories from high school. A few editorial issues which hasn't been an issue in all the previous books. Names and times were a bit messed up.
Katie never disappoints in helping to solve a mystery or keep her Sky High Pies running like clockwork. Cannot wait to see what happens next in this series.
Quick read . I thought like Kate Reed and Harper and Julia. The mysteries always has one of Nana Reeds goodies featured as part of the mystery. Love these mysteries!
