Geoffrey W. Sutton was born in London, England. He immigrated to the United States with his parents. He and his wife have one son and three grandchildren. He earned a Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He continues to do research, write, and give talks when not traveling or visiting with family.
