I was approached by someone to see if I'd be interested in reviewing a book from an unfamiliar author. Me being me, said absolutely. I love meeting new authors and discovering so many different styles of writing. I am so glad it's over said yes.
This book was so well written and perfectly executed. Your heart will run the gamut of emotions. One minute it's sadness, then happiness, then you want to slap the characters in the head and tell them to get it together already. It was the perfect slow burn and so uniquely different than the majority of the books I normally review.
I will absolutely be on the lookout for anything new coming from this author, and definitely will be going back to read previous books. This book is definitely deserving of 6 stars!
I first discovered Ara Grigorian’s writing with his debut novel Game of Love and put myself on a list to find out when his next would arrive. I consider myself lucky to have been granted an advanced reader copy. Once again, Grigorian pulled me in immediately with a simple, yet timeless story of love. While the jacket blurb lets you know that Pete and Sophie, best friends since childhood, will end up together, the narrative surprises and delights with all the embarrassing, messy, fantastic, and sexy ups and downs one not only loves in Hollywood romcoms, but can be found in every reader’s life. The horror of being the new kid in school, the gut-wrenching vulnerability of the teenage crush, the adult realization that who we think we love and who that person really is are often two vastly different things, the divorce that often follows, even the challenge of learning to take a chance again in our adult years - Grigorian handles all with realistic dialogue, efficient prose, and tender humanity - so much that this soft-hearted reader found himself unashamedly wiping more than one tear away and laughing out loud. A charming story, well told. Like the work of Nicholas Sparks, it’s easy to imagine the vibrant scenes of Grigorian’s Ten Year Dance on a movie screen, and both the cheers and tears it deserves.

This book is three part’s of friend’s lives from middle school through their 10 year school reunion. The main characters are Sophie and Pete. Sophie has loved Pete for years but he is stuck on Claire, who was taken away at the end of the senior year by her parents. Sophie had married Seth trying to have someone of her own. This didn’t work out. He was violent when he wasn’t on his medication. Read this book to see how the plot twist and turns throughout the years. Will Pete every figure out that Sophie loves him? Will Claire come back to the reunion and spoil everything for Sophie again? This book is a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the years. The story unfolds and you see how each friends life turns out. The story has demons from the past, betrayal, lust, emotional upheaval, love, and soul searching. Ara is a talented writer that has brought two dimensional characters and intertwined them in an emotional plot. I reviewed and Advance Reader Copy of this book and am leaving a voluntary and honest review.
Ten Year Dance, another fine romance novel by Ara Grigorian, follows on the heels of Game of Love, a Reader’s Favorite Book Award Winner. Set against a contemporary Southern California backdrop, the story follows a group of friends and lovers from high school.
The narrative drives forward without an ounce of fat, interspersed with flashbacks germane to the unfolding story. The primary and secondary characters are rendered with careful attention to make them memorable. The educated reader is treated to Albert Camus and T.S. Eliot references.
The plot unfolds in an enticing way with philosophical asides that are sometimes universal to the human condition. The action culminates in a 10-year school reunion during which the main characters achieve clarity about what they want after many inopportune twists and turns along the way.

This book is the longest book I've read in awhile but it needed to be for the story told. This story spans from the later part of grade school up to adulthood. Pete and Sophie have been friends from the moment he started school with her. However Sophie always wanted to be more than friends with him and his heart was only for Claire a mutual friend. In high school when none of the friends got to go to prom with their first pick everything seems to change for them. Sophie ends up dating the class bully and then marries him. Pete never really has a real relationship and still longs for what might've been with Claire. Now their tenth high school reunion is upon them and with it comes some big decision making. Will Sophie continue to let Pete keep her friendzoned? Will Pete open his eyes to what's been in front of him before its too late?
This was a good story. I can't really say much more without giving too much away.

If you enjoy reading second chance romances then this is one you do not want to miss! Sophie is divorcing her husband Seth but he does not want to let her go and has taken up stalking her. Pete has been Sophie’s best friend for years from the time they were young and she moved in with him and his family after the death of her parents. Pete has had feelings for Sophie but she has shot him down in the past; not to mention that he is living the single life and is somewhat of a playboy. Can Sophie and Pete finally have a relationship after everything they have been through? This is one heck of a story that will keep the reader engaged from the beginning. There is so much going on in this storyline that you will not be able to put it down until the end. This is the first book I have read by this author and it will definitely not be the last. I volunteered to read an arc for a review.
I have a very special place in my heart for Ara's first novel, Game of Love, because it is such a wonderful blend of smart, funny characters, scandal and danger, and a fun and engaging romance. I felt that Ara struck gold with that book's main characters, Gemma and Andre, and doubted he would be able to match that level of chemistry and character development in subsequent books.
But I was wrong. Ten Year Dance introduces us to Sophie and Pete, friends since childhood, peas in a pod, everything to each other--except lovers. You'll root for them from the first page--that's how charming and authentic they are.
Complications arise and it's fun to see the way these two--as well as a host of diverse and interesting supporting characters--handle them.
This is a wild ride, but ultimately a touching one and a very, very worthy follow-up to Game of Love.

After a brutal divorce, Sophie has decided that since she can't have the one she loves, she will have to move on. Pete hasn't believed in love for a long time. Will Pete realize his feelings for Sophie before it is to late? Will Sophie finally believe Pete when admits everything to her?
Great book! This book took you through the emotional battle of two friends, who have both been in love, unknowingly to one and knowingly to the other for years. Couple of times I wanted to smack Pete, but then I thought about it and realized that maybe he was a little to comfortable with Sophie. Didn't blame Sophie for her reactions, but was happy that when it came down to it she was willing to push through.

This was a delight. From start to finish the writing flowed to match the ever changing emotions of the main characters and also the people around them. Love should be easy but we all know at times our egos and fears can stunt and interrupt what should happen so naturally. The story grabs, and it connects us to the action from the first word and never lets go. Beautiful use of phrase and pace gave the audience an absolutely wonderful and emotionally believable ride to discovering what we want is too often right in front of us. The reader walks away feeling so very good about life and that is romance, at least for this reader. Great, great read.
I received this Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review. A fabulous read by Ara Grigorian. Ten Year Dance is a book about second chances, misunderstandings, forgiveness and new beginnings. Sophie and Pete have been best friends since they were teenagers. Now adults, both Sophie and Pete are still friends. Sophie is going through a nasty divorce from her husband Seth, also one of their classmates. Seth does not want to let her go and has been stalking her for awhile. Pete is still single and living the playboy lifestyle. Can two people who have always been there for each other finally get their HEA? This book will keep on your toes until the very end. An amazing book not to be missed! 5 stars.
Ten Year Dance was an exceptional read! Once again, Ara Grigorian has done a superb job in sweeping the reader away with a page-turning, emotional experience. I was rooting for Pete and Sophie the whole way, and their story took me right back to the hallways of high school and all the crazy up and down feelings attached to it. I can always trust Ara to weave the best second chance love stories!

Ara Grigorian is a new author for me and I am so not disappointed whatsoever. Be prepared to go on an emotional journey that at times had me cry and at others had me smiling. The book is so well written, the story isn't rushed and the characters are so real. To be honest, the quality of writing within this book really blew me away. It is so worth your time to enjoy this romance of two people who have been "besties" but have always deep down had feelings for each other. Well Done.
Ten Year Dance was a wonderful read! Ara Grigorian writes a beautiful tale of romance. I felt drawn into the lives of his characters’ happiness, crushes, heartaches and all and enjoyed the way Ara wove the importance of family into the mix. Bravo!

What a wonderful book and you'll fall in love with Pete and Sophie. Grab your Kleenex because you'll cry and you'll laugh. A great friends to lovers book that is so heartwarming and gripping. You'll find it hard to put this book down once you start. A great ten year journey that finishes with a ten year high school reunion. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
A very well written book. I liked the story line and plot very much. It has strong characters that meet again at a high school reunion. Sophie and Pete have always been best friends. I like the way they help each other when it is needed. I like their chemistry and the emotions they have developed. Characters are nicely described and develops through the story. It is written in dual POV and that gives the reader more of the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. This story is an emotional roller coaster and the twists makes it an amazing read.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is exceptionally well written and tells captivating story about second chances. The storyline is so engaging that I couldn't put the book down. All characters are well developed and compelling. Although there are no explicit sex scenes, Pete & Sophie's chemistry is palpable. This novel is one of the very best romance books I read so far. 5+ stars! A must read.
I received this book for a voluntary, completely honest and non incentivized review. I could not put this book down! I was invested from the first page! The characters were all frustratingly beautiful! Their stories were heartbreaking and heartwarming. A great read!
This is an incredible book. Pete and Sophie were made for each other. The ten-year journey went on from friends to lovers is so much more than I can describe. You must grab this book and read it for yourself. You will laugh and maybe cry when you go on this journey with Pete and Sophie!
Another amazing book. I was blown away with the story, I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong characters. I want more.....I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
First book I have read from this author. Good strong story with interesting multiple characters. Kept my interest til the end. Look forward to more books.
Well, Ara has done it again. With TEN YEAR DANCE, just as with GAME OF LOVE, I was completely swept away. Pete and Sophie are rich characters who felt rooted and real and full. Their story, along with that of their friends, had me gobbling up this book. Ara pulls the reader into the world of his book. It was completely immersive, and I was so invested I wanted to laugh, cry, and cheer along with the characters.

Overall it was good, the characters need more. Most of it to me was a bunch of ' woo is me' , self doubt, regrets, and guilt. Mostly it was Pete's p.o.v and some from Sophie. 71 chapters, 4 parts take time reading this unless you want to skip parts for all the self doubting. Like I said it was good but Sophie and Pete lacked a deep connection, since he made his 'time to buck up and be a man' and admit to Sophie around the 92_94% towards the end. Childhood friends that that stayed friends for 16 years. Pete only saw Sophie as a friend and later a sister, he didn't see her as a relationship until in college years after coming back for a field trip. Pete only really had eyes for Claire and his struggle to overcome not having her as his women throughout school until the two weeks he did get Claire starting the night of Sophie's 18 birthday party. Claire made him the man he is today, only sees women for sex. Sophie has been a wreck for so long the one boy/man she loves wouldn't acknowledge her as anything other the a friend. She had a whole in her heart for him but he never took it so she forced her self to fine love in another. That didn't work so great and was physically painful on her end. Sophie always knew Claire was in the middle of everything that pertains with Pete, she always knew he would break her heart and he's done it a lot over the years. Will he change when he hears of her new promotion? How about their up incoming 10 year High School Reunion? Or will Pete get the women he always been in love with since high school at the reunion? She dont know but she keeps her heart strong until her answers come. I received this Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Ten Year Dance is just that, a ten+ year journey that brings us a new kid at school, new friendships, young love, marriages and so much more. Sophie and Pete are the core of the story but their friends are all very involved. A lot can happen in ten years. Just ask Pete and Sophie. They have been friends from they were young but there was always something more lingering in the background.
We visit the past often, it paints the picture of where their story began and what led them to where they are today. You have to pay attention to it all, because they both have different views on how things happen and what it all means.
Pete doesn’t do serious relationships, he doesn’t believe in love. Bit by bit we learn why and it will make your heart hurt for him but at the same time you will love him. He is super protective of Sophie and always puts her first.
Sophie was tough for me to figure out. She was smart and athletic in high school, had lots of friends but always seemed to be the “buddy” to everyone. Now she is still smart and athletic but she is making some big changes. One minute she seems to be going in one direction, then you aren’t really sure what she wants.
Over the course of a few weeks things between Pete and Sophie begin to change and get more complicated than ever. You will watch them evaluate their feelings while confronting past relationships and crushes. The Ten Year Dance is a story of moving on, second chances and looking beyond the surface of how things seems. It was a sweet story of friendships that last, crumble and turn into so much more over the course of time.
Earlier this year I read a marvelous romance called Game of Love. The book introduced two fascinating people and a romance who overcame seemingly impossible odds to come to their happily-ever-after. Ara Grigorian delivers a powerful story, so when I heard he’d written another romance I jumped at the chance to read and review it. I was not disappointed. Once again, we’re invited into the lives of two strong, intelligent, and multi-faceted people. The kind you watch in awe and wish you could emulate. Sophie is an attorney, sharp and driven. She’s also athletic, and soundly out-plays her best friend Pete. She’s endured a disastrous marriage and has finally made the decision to file for divorce. Pete is a successful architect. He loves his large, boisterous Greek family, but has given up on finding true love for himself. Game of Love takes you through Sophie and Pete’s lives from the time they meet in junior high, through the turbulent high school years, and culminating with their ten-year class reunion. Both of them have come to a point where they need to make important decisions about their professional lives. But before they can do that, they need to learn more about themselves and each other. The quality that sets a book apart is its ability to make the reader care about its characters. While reading this book there were times I wanted to hug both Sophie and Pete, and other times when I wanted to smack them silly for being so blind and foolish. I’m certain you’ll be caught up in their story, too.
Great slow-burn romance! Sophie and Pete have been best friends forever, but is there something else there? Well, it's a romance, so you already know how it's going to turn out. Still, the art is in how Grigorian gets us there. This felt much more substantial than most romances I've read: more in-depth understanding of what's going on with each of the characters, what their backstories are, what draws them together and what keeps them apart. The chemistry between them felt real, and I was cheering for them right away. Grigorian makes excellent use of a cast of supporting characters, both as foils for the love interests and as insights into Sophie and Pete's characters. There were only a few bits that didn't ring quite true for me: Sophie's ex seemed one-dimensionally evil and I never quite understood how such a fabulous woman got stuck with him, and there were points where the misunderstandings felt implausible between friends who knew each other so well. That said, all was forgiven when I got to the highly satisfying ending. The writing was so compelling that I couldn't put the book down: every chapter pulled me on to the next one, and I blew off real life so I could keep reading. I definitely recommend this if you like well-written romances with more meat to them than fluff.
P.S. Given all the reviews on here that were ARCs, I feel like I should add my own version: I paid full price for the paperback version of this book because I thought it would be worth it. And it was!
When Sophie's divorce takes a dark turn, she turns to her best friend Pete for help. Sophie and Pete have been best friends since middle school and tell each other everything, or so they think. Pete has been consumed with memories of his high school girlfriend, although he never shared the extent of their relationship with Sophie, and Sophie hasn't shared her own feelings with Pete. With their ten year reunion just around the corner, they both have a second chance to find closure.
This was an addicting listen, a really well written romance that had me hooked. I loved the writing style and the flashbacks to middle and high school days. This is one of those books with a great cast of side characters you want to read more about. I really rooted for Pete and Sophie, two damaged people who've found a way to stay strong together. I'll definitely be keeping an out for more by this author.
The narration was done well and easy to listen to. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
OK, this book is nearly every woman's dream! Who doesn't have a best friend who they wished was more than a friend? And to find out they have always felt the same for you, well, it's so common that that there are a bunch of song written about it - ie "Right Here Waiting for You". I love the recurring theme of Pete and Sophie dancing together through the years and how it is the basis for the title. It is fun when a couple has their "thing" that they are known for. I hate that Sophie's search to feel loved left her open for abuse :( SO thankful that she had the strength to put an end to that, even if it meant she was afraid of having no one. So many misunderstanding and misread cues that finally come together at the end. Makes you really wonder how many missed opportunities we all have had along the way in all types of relationships.
