I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review. I rate this anthology 5 Stars, a little something for anyone who likes Vikings, or just a good story. Also a big thank you to the Authors for excellent editing, I probably read 2 dozen or more anthologies a year, this is one of just a few I've read in the last couple of years that didn't annoy me with the terrible editing and constant missing or missspelled words.
Rise of a Viking by Sky Purington 5 Stars, I reviewed this book previously as an ARC and a purchased copy. I fell in love with Heidrek when he was just a child struggling to find his way in a world that was turned upside down, cringed when he thought to better his elders over a woman and marveled at the hidden strength and power we got glimpses of as he travelled to the future to help others in their time of strife. Now it’s time for Heidrek’s journey as he comes into his birth rite and steps up to lead his people. Will he find love as well? You’ll have to read the book to find out. Old friends also pop in as our new lasses from the future are pulled into place for their adventures into the past. Cybil has been looking out for her sisters all their lives, now it’s her turn to come into her own. Fate brings Heidrek and Cybil together, I have a feeling that they are going to be a real power to reckon with in their time, the enemy better watch out as they learn and grow. I am always amazed how Sky manages to keep her stories fresh, after reading all of her series I used to think after awhile I would know how the story was going to go, and yet she always throws in these nifty little twists and turns to keep you guessing and coming back for more.
Kingdom By the Sea Kathryn Le Veque 4.5 Stars I really enjoyed this short story, I just wish it was a tad bit longer. The ending was very abrupt and I would like to have had just a little bit more of an HEA. This story for me was kind of a little Romeo and Juliet meets Edgar Alan Poe, with a touch of Outlander. A weird combination that totally worked. Vikings and plundering don't always lead to a HEA and they didn't this time as well, but not for your usual reasons. A timeless love story that reunites two souls meant to be together, or so we hope!
The Rover Defiant by Anna Markland 5 Stars This was a very good story and well written. I mentioned to the Author on Facebook that I did get just a little frustrated with the Viking "uncles" and some others for thinking that they could "own" people, particularly their relatives, I know this was common practice (and unfortunately still is today) and I guess it's a testament to the author's writing ability that it made me so angry and frustrated that I wanted to reach into the story and shake some sense into them. Torstein was an honorable, brave and caring young man, who had to overcome so much in his life to be found worthy. At every turn it seems like someone is trying to keep him down and in his "place" and each time he reacts in an honorable way. Will he get the girl of his dreams? Well first he has to convince her that there is no shame in being born a "Thrall" but sometimes we find the true "slaves" are the people who think they are free but truly are unable to look past society's rules and grasp their chance of happiness in their own two hands. No spoilers here, you'll have to read the story to see if Torstein gets the girl!
Sheildmaiden's Revenge by Emma Prince 5 Stars I loved this story! This was my first story by Emma Prince, but it won't be my last (I've already purchased a few more!) I just adored Madrena, a strong woman who chooses to fight instead of giving up after a terrible event occurs in her life. She's strong and smart and she's not taking any crap from the men in her life. She's also more than a little headstrong and just maybe she should stop and listen to the people who love her and think before she acts, but what fun would there be in that? Runin is saved by the Gods when the ship he is on wrecks on the shore of Madrena's village. He is a man without honor who will do anything, promise anything to save himself. Or so he truly believes. He wasn't prepared for Madrena. As they fight each other, fate, and a cruel land on her quest for vengeance both Runin and Madrena must take a good hard look at themselves and each other. This story made me cry, and cry some more. I can't wait to read more about this family and their trials.
Love's Fury by Violetta Rand 5 Stars Another tale of Vikings gone a plundering and the poor unfortunate women who end up in their way. Except this time Konal may have met his match because Silvia has a mind of her own. I love stories with strong women, although once again I was frustrated by Konal thinking he had a right to "own" someone (Hmm, maybe this is why I don't read a lot of Viking stories as a general rule, lol) Silvia is raised by her Father amongst the Priests and Monks and is taught to read and write, a rare thing for a woman, since all they're truly good for is cooking, cleaning and making babies....She frustrates Konal at every turn, why won't that little bit of a girl just do as she's told???
Two love stories, one in modern times, as a chance encounter at an old grave site. The second was the story of Annabel Lee, a warrior princess and how she met the man that loved her, and stood sentinel at her sepulcher until wind and sea turned him to stone.
2: The Shipwreck by Glynnis Campbell
I love the way this author uses words and images to seduce the readers mind to a different time and place. A shipwrecked viking is found and rescued by a Picton lass, who had no empathy towards vikings, due to her past. They end up with much more than either of them could imagine. A wonderfully told tale.
3: The Rover Defiant by Anna Markland A freed thrall (Viking slave) falls in love at sight of a nobleman's daughter. They face a great deal of adversity towards their union. However, a new land, support from his prominent family and sheer guts, pay off. An engaging tale.
4: Aegir's Daughter by Emma Prince A dramatic short story of a woman and man meeting and being instantly attracted. Next morning, there is adventure afoot. Short but enjoyable.
5: Rise of the Viking by Sky Purington
This such an invigorating tale, I have ensured that I have the other books by this author. It has, prophets, shape-shifting dragons, viking mythology and a very vibrant love story. Oh! And time travelers also. What more could you ask for. Yes I am gushing, as it was one stupendous read!

An anthology with authors of various writing styles and genres, but filed with interesting stories!
A mixed bag of stories and genres, but all worth reading. Some stories were poignant, others filled with myths and legends. Spanning centuries and beliefs these stories give you a new respect for Vikings and the life they lead.
Loved all the books. Takes you away to another time and place. Makes you care about the characters really draws you in. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes historical romance fiction.
I love the writings of Katherine LeVeque. She inspires me to look beyond what love really is and sacrifices one must make. I feel like I am in the stories She writes. I didn't care for the shift changing time travel story, it took me a long time to get through it. I would recommend this book, and only read the 4 stories, unless your into shift changing time travel stories.
I truly loved all five stories. These are some of my favorite authors. A steal for sure. Grab yours, you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend this book !!!!
