A song is just a song... or is it?Return to the Mer wedding of a lifetime with Patience and Gideon and discover the night that led to their unexpected connection in 1988 as musical nostalgia takes hold.Working at a Dairy Queen is not the life Patience imagined when she graduated with her art degree, but all that is about to change as Titus and Regus return to claim what they believe is theirs. In an attack on a stranger whom she feels strangely drawn to, Patience unwittingly lands herself in the sights of two of the Ocean’s most dangerous predators. Can Gideon protect her? Or is what Patience needs to be saved from a little closer to home?In the story of how a very large fork ended up in the wrong hands, you can hop into the little red not-so-vintage and join Patience and Gideon as they re-live the night that started it all. This book is a prequel to The Queens Of Fantasy Saga, and is best read after books 1-3 (The Tidal Kiss)
Hi, I’m Kristy Nicolle, a 27-year-old British writer achieving freedom from the pain of my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome diagnosis by bringing fantasy worlds to life for my readers. I currently enjoy spending time in my fuzzy PJs with my kitty arch nemesis, Moo, and love all things mermaids, unicorns, and glitter! My books centre around high detail, high action fantasy worlds, full of badass female characters who love to get steamy.
Kristy Nicolle is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors ever. I absolutely adored "Something Blue," a dystopian romance, so I joined her group and started following her on Facebook. It turns out that Something Blue was sort of an anomaly for her, and she has this whole other mermaid universe going on! I have the first three books of the Tidal Kiss Trilogy, but I have been bogged down with so many other things that I have not had time to sit down and read them. When she released this prequel, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get an introduction to the series.
I was not disappointed! Kristy has such an amazing talent with words. Gideon and Patience are very likable, and you immediately find yourself drawn in and rooting for them. I don't know anything about how their story turns out apart from the "present day" scenes, but the promise of the heartbreak, adventures, and struggles to come is really wonderful. I am even more eager than ever to begin reading the main series. I know Kristy has put a lot of thought into the universe, and I am excited about "diving in." :-)
This novella was the soothing balm I needed after reading another one of Kristy's books that had pur my heart in a meat grinder.
This book glued it all back together again.
Mind you, I recommend reading the full Tidal Kiss trilogy so tou understsnd the characters on this short novella as a whole. If you are new to the Kristy fan club and this is your first book of hers, it is still okay though as ypu get to see her writing style. I had this book and had completely forgot to review it (my apologies).
This is a classic, short & sweet novella with a bit of a twist. While there is a bir of action in it, it follows the sweetheart tale of a teenager falling in love. Even though yes it does involve mermen, it still is beautifully showcased the reality of falling in love in just a short span. The awkwardness of meeting. The impromptu events that can take place. The feelings of being scared of the feelings hiding just below the surface.
You get to see Patience & Gideon metring yet again and follow thier story on how they met. As with my reviews, I will not spoil the book in my review but it does contain spoilers for the Tidal Kiss Trilogy, hence why I recommend reading those first. Patience becomes the hero Gideon needed and he is the hero she didn't realize she wanted.
It truly is a novella that is sweeter than cotton candy. A must have out of the works of Keisty that show a softer side that many books lack nowadays!
I loved that this short picked up from the events at the end of the The Kiss That Changed Me but gave us a new perspective of the scene. The focus of this novella was on Callie's parents therefore instead of reading about the wedding from the main characters experiencing the event we get to observe all the little things that are happening as Patience witnesses them, like watching Karla chasing Azure wearing an oversized suit jacket. This was a nice change in writing style as instead of being caught up in the action you are able to really notice the other character and how they interact with eachother.
This led nicely into a flashback as Patience reminisces on her past when she met callies father Gideon. This part is set in 1988 and begins with them meeting at Dairy Queen where Patience used to work. With some unseemly characters entering the shop who were up to no good, Patience couldn't help but put them in their place to help out Gideon. When Gideon returned the favour by asked her to go with him to escape the "creatures" how could she refuse! Their evening adventure answered so many questions from the trilogy and made me realise how much I needed the backstory of Callies parents. If you haven't read the Tidal Kiss Trilogy then definitely go read it first!

Oh my Goddess, this story was the cutest thing ever!
Waiting for Gideon is a short story about how Callie's mother, Patience, and her father, Gideon, first met. Patience was working at a Dairy Queen when Gideon showed up and completely flipped her world upside down. It was like love at first sight for these two and the way she had instantly accepted him for what he was, was incredible!
So many emotions were crammed into this short story. I laughed, I even teared up a bit (at the end) and I got frustrated as well. Ms. Nicolle is so amazing that it doesn't matter how long or how short her books are, she knows how to take you on an amazing ride!
This is the perfect example to me of true love. How it never dies, and it doesn't just go away. How it overcomes obstacles and always finds a way. I just love how, even after twenty years, these two were able to come together and pick up right where they left off. (Stupid Solstus!)
Such an amazing book with an amazing story! 5 out of 5 stars!
Waiting For Gideon: A Tidal Kiss Short by Kristy Nicolle 5 stars
I’ve been in a reading slump the last month or so. I picked this one up and OMG. This short hit me right in the feels! Something about the 80’s vibe and being back in the Tidal Kiss realm just gave me all the thrills and feels from the Tidal Kiss Trilogy. I love how this Author gives us more insight into the side characters from the story. Did I think I needed a backstory from Callie’s parent's POV? No, I didn’t think I needed it. Do I feel like I need it and then some now? Abso-freakin-lutely! Can Author Kristy Nicolle PLEASE give us more! I loved this flashback. I’m an 80’s baby so I LOVE everything about this time. I also really liked seeing how ultimately Callie came to be. I liked seeing how even though you think you are soul mates with a person (They thought) you can still have this uncontrollable pull to someone else. This is the 2nd short story of Kristy’s I’ve read and I really like how she leaves little easter eggs throughout the shorts that tie the other trilogies together. At one point in Waiting for Gideon, a family name was brought up and went over my head until another name was mentioned and I got way too excited to connect the dots from trilogy one to trilogy 2.
This short was an amazing addition to the Tidal Kiss. I LOVED IT! 5 stars
From the moment I read The Kiss that Killed me, I wondered where Callie came from and how she became who she became. Then reading the rest of the Tidal Kiss Trilogy made me even more curious, especially after we meet Gideon. Seeing a normal girl like Patience working her way through her dull life, trying to make ends meet in 1980's California, get involved with someone as exciting as Gideon, finally gave her the adventure of a lifetime, This story answered so many questions and left me with so many more. This story warmed my heart and gave the fantasy a place in reality.
Kristy Nicolle has a special way with a fantastic tale, and I always enjoy myself from beginning to end. Taking us on her water bound roller coaster ride, she draws us in with sights and sounds that give her stories depth and meaning. I can't wait to see what her extraordinary mind brings us next.
**I received a digital copy of this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.**
Aww, I loved this one! It was so sweet to look back and see how Patience and Gideon met and how their relationship started. The writing in this one was just so easy. I flew through it. Granted, it is super short, but I mean, I literally devoured this story. I just love this world and I’m going to miss Callie and Orion and all the fam something serious. I need moreeeee. I wanted this to be so much longer, but for the purpose, it needed to be exactly the way it was. I just hope we check back in with these guys at some point within the rest of Nicolle’s infiniverse.
The characters were done amazingly and the storyline was compelling and gripping. This author has clearly done their research as this genre of book has been portrayed perfectly. The chemistry between the two is extremley well done. And I loved the steamy scenes.
This book will leave you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. This book was extremely well written and has fast become of my favourite books. I will definitely want to one click future releases from this author. This book was full of different emotions with many twists and turns in the book that will keep you guessing what is going to happen till the very end.
If I could award this book more than 5 stars I would.
I received an ARC for an honest review. Read the same day I received it! I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed reading this awesome and creative world of mermaids that Kristy just entrances you into. From the kiss that killed me trilogy she has had me and in this I'm guessing a spinoff or pre-sequel book you will find how Callie's parents met and how adventurous Callie's mom and father could be! Loved it! And I hope there is more to their story 😍Kristy keep them coming!!! I love love love Callie's parents and hope there is more 😁
This is a short story, but gives you the flavor of the world the Tidal KISS Triology is based in splendidly! The story is sweet and explains how Patience first met Gideon. It was a great short that also featured plenty of action with a car chase and the sudden appearance of ice during a fight. It was good to understand how Patience and Gideon’s story began and it truly showed how quickly love amongst true soul mates can manifest. This is very well written and I have to say I am truly excited to read even more by this author!
I was so excited to get my hands on this little beauty! It was a perfect short story that brought back some favorite characters from the Tidal Kiss Trilogy. We finally get a little back story that is cutesy and eye opening. In the backstory we also get a few glimpse into the future. We get to meet characters and see small plot points that can carry through Kristy's promised Queens Saga. I can't wait!
This is my first foray into Kristy's fantasy infiniverse. I'm intrigued, I want to read more of her words and escape into her fantasy world of mermaids. This is short novella that acts as a prequel to the series, it gives you snippets into the world Kristy has created and I didnt feel lost in the plot, wondering what I had missed. This is a series that I would like to explore more.
This series... five stars just isn't enough to proclaim my love for these books. She has taken a basic love story and woven it into an epic tale of magic, mystery, and mayhem. Cheers and zebras to my new favorite author!
I absolutely adored this short but exceptionally sweet book! I'm beginning to see that I'm going to love all of this authors work! I can't recommend her books enough.
Waiting for Gideon was not what I was expecting, however I still absolutely adored this short and sweet novella from the Tidal Kiss universe.
Once again Kristy Nicolle takes us back in time to before The Kiss That Killed Me and this time we meet Callie's parents, Gideon and Patience. They meet for the first time, amidst a whole lot of trouble and a bittersweet romance begins.
This novella was short and sweet and filled with lots of emotion, especially for those of us who have read the Tidal Kiss Trilogy and know what came next. It was written in true Kristy Nicolle style and I found myself completely absorbed in the story from the very beginning. Definitely one for fans of this author!
Why do certain things trigger memories? Certain smells remind me of home. "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leopard will always take me back to my wedding day. It doesn't matter how many years have passed, triggering a single one of the five senses plunges you headfirst into your own backstory. And everyone LOVES a good backstory.
It's like sitting at the mall and catching piece of story that wasn't meant for your ears. "Waiting for Gideon" takes place after the third book of the Tidal Kiss trilogy. . . so, if you haven't read "The Kiss That Killed Me", stop right here, because this could contain possible spoilers.
Instead of eavesdropping at the mall, imagine sitting at the reception of Orion and Callie. Watching the bride stuff her face with cake, you notice her staring at two people, who are covertly staring at each other. The man gets a coy smile on his face as he extends his arm questioning, 'Dance with me?' The flirtatious smile is replaced with sheer joy as 'Surfin USA' plays over the speakers. You can plainly see a memory dancing between the two of them. It's apparent that as the song ends, more than lyrics and dance steps were shared, as they reminisce the past they shared, and the future life they could build.
You're so caught up in a daydream of what they're trying to say, that Patience has her own daydream; of art grad days working the night shift at Dairy Queen. Existing through the monotony of trying to make a living. Thinking about walking the Louvre, and looking up at her own artwork. Sadly, reality came knocking in the form of a customer. Only this customer was a tall man, with blonde hair, a white t-shirt, and faded blue jeans.
This California dream has been watching Patience for a year now, working up the courage to talk to her. All it takes is an Oreo blizzard. Naturally, you have that awkward love at first sight reaction. Patience makes an absolute fool out of herself while working (admit it, you've been there!) and blames it on his god-like appearance. Curiosity gets the best of her, and asks him any question that pops into her head, while still maintaining her awkwardness.
Of course the one-on-one conversation pulls up short when trouble comes into the store- and they're looking for Gideon. Patience runs out of patience with her customers and tunes in to the squabble with Gideon. Call it instinct, but she steps in and throws a blizzard in a guys face, and notices that Gideon freezes the little patch of floor they are on. With the bad guys on the floor, Gideon tells Patience it's time to go.
Patience goes on the red of her life in Gideon's little red mustang (sorry 80s kids, no little red corvette!) finding out Gideon's little secret, and why the two guys were after him. What's great is if you've read Kristy Nicolle's other books, there are a couple of easter eggs you can spot which makes it loads of fun to read.
"Waiting for Gideon" is the summer short to get lost in. It's a great beachy read, or weekend read- something to absolutely get lost in with nostalgia. If you've ever had those awkward moments of "Hi how are you?" "Thanks you too!" moments, you will have a smile plastered on your face, remember what your late teenage, early twenties years were made of.
What I love is that this is an extension of the series readers fell in love with. It's like reading a complete series and asking "What if. . ." Kristy Nicolle took care of the what if and gave us a throw back to where it all started. If you're a fan of The Tidal Kiss Series, you're going to want to know where it all started- and you won't be disappointed.
AGHHH this book! It is fast, in your face, and packed with excitement. If you're looking for a spunky book that sets the tone for the whole rest of the series, this is it. I read this in one go, and was sad to see it end so quickly. Waiting For Gideon was one of the books that when I finished, I wanted to flip straight to page 1 and begin again. PS, and now I want ice cream. If you want to know why, grab this book and find out.
I have read all the books that Kristy Nicolle has published and I loved each and every story, including this one. This story is related to her Tidal Kiss Trilogy and gives some insight into Callie's parents and how they lived, loved and made decisions before Callie was born. It has enhanced my enjoyment of the series. I would recommend reading the trilogy first as this story, although mainly set in the past, aludes to things that happen at the end of the third book.
Kirsty is a very talented word smith and this story is beautifully written. Although short, coupled with the trilogy, there is good character development of both Patience and Gideon. It is a very good compliment to what we learn about them in the other books. I particularly enjoyed reading the interaction of a "young" Gideon with Patience.
