Nem Aster was seeking obscurity. The Aggadeh Empire was seeking dragons. Little did Nem expect that he would come face-to-face with both in the far north city of Balon. Is he destined to become an ally of the Empire? Or its prisoner? And what is he going to do with a dragon who might turn the city into a bloodbath?
I found this book intriguing and exciting. There are two different magic systems and Nem. There are two different monster types and Nem. There are many different political and religious factions and then there is Nem. Simply, the author did a great job constructing the hero. I also enjoyed the way the author embellished settings while weaving in character development. Sadly, the curse of auto-spellchecker is embedded in this work. This book is not for teens. There is a little more than sexual innuendo going on here. To be fair, it was done cleanly and in context. For this reason, I recommend this book for adult fantasy lovers. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Alright, I chose the perfect time to read the first book because the second book was out. However, the remaining series is still being written. I will tell you, the story just gets better and better as you read.
If you haven't read the first book, go back now and do so. If you have, purchase this book right away.
Freakin' awesome storyline and well paced, there are multiple character pov, but they are short and it doesn't detract from the main characters, I normally hate that but, it is surprisingly well done. I highly recommend this series, can't wait for the next installment.
Well thought out and original dragons and magic system. Human? hero and his magic nullifying sword Dragonclaw interesting. Together they scare young dragons. But abrupt cliff hanger stops at end of each book irritating.
The story is very interesting. Nem's life effects so many other peoples lives, even if he has not been in personal contact with them. I am looking forward for the next part of Tiamah and Nem's journey into the world. If you do a second edition this book, and if some one has drawn your attention to it: Morgan's sword Just before the sword fight- Alger "wasn't familiar with this particular weapon". After the fight, with the sword on the table- Alger said " I know the one who created this weapon ". On the Zephyr- " I created that sword myself ". How ever you wish to go with this story I enjoy your work. Thank you
Very good swords and sorcery with plenty of dragons of you like that. Manages to maintain several interesting plots. Lighter than GoT, which is a good thing.
I give this book full ranking. There are several stories within this book that are each worthy of their own book, and I hope are going to come. I like how the telling of this story is coming from different perspectives of its characters - which is probably why I get the feeling that there could be and should be several separate books here. Being the second book in this story, I greatly enjoy the tale that is unfolding. There obviously is still a lot more to tell, so I am left wanting the next book to come out - now. As this is a review for you potential readers, I hate to give away any part of the story, so let me just say it's a great fantasy, with dragons, magic, and heroes, in a world that is facing a change. I know this sounds similar to any other book about dragons, magic, and heroes, but I like how the characters evolve, even the minor ones, in their own perspective, that makes this book stand out. I like being in each of their heads.
