Living a life of crime to support myself and my baby sister, I took the chance to turn my life around by working for the Interplanetary Space Patrol. I kept my dark secret and hid my telekinetic powers to fit in. Everything seemed to be working fine until Shey re-entered my life. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her, but when I discovered she wanted revenge for her brother's death, turns out she's not the only one who wants me dead. When sabotage and murder shake up the tiny Meta Base Station of the I.S.P., it compromises the mission and changes everything.

Compared to the first book I think the plot for “Revenge” was a lot more interesting and in general this book was better. However, I think there was still a lot of space for improvement.
Even though I had read the first book, I had trouble following what was happening in the beginning of this one. The story needed more information to remind the reader who the characters were and what had happened to them in the previous book.
“Revenge” was missing the necessary world building and character development, there were times that I had trouble imagining the surroundings of the characters, their personalities were not distinct enough and I could not understand their thoughts and motivations. I think this book needed a lot more descriptions in order to create the proper atmosphere and help the reader understand the characters.
Now when it comes to the plot, everything was very rushed. A lot of the things the characters were doing and saying were inconsistent. Even though both Shey and Berto knew for a fact that someone else was trying to sabotage them, they still didn’t hesitate to blame each other for the things that were happening. I think that kind of behavior was due to the author trying to keep them apart just for the sake of keeping the reader interested to the story.
For me though it had the opposite effect. It was really weird when Shey told Berto that she forgives and yet he kept repeating to himself that they can’t be together because Shey hasn’t forgiven him yet. Not only were those things inconsistent, but they didn’t allow the reader to enjoy the romance. I would have liked to see how those two communicate and behave when they are in a relationship. The main characters don’t have to be apart for the entire book to keep things interesting.
Even the few rare moments that those two stopped repeating that they liked each other but they couldn’t be together, I didn’t have the chance to enjoy the romance because it was very rushed and all they did was kissing each other and having sex. There was no emotional connection between them. According to them there were so many things keeping the apart but during the times that they were reconnecting, they didn’t say much to each other they just start kissing out of the blue.
Finally, there was a time were Berto acted without Shey’s consent. He had the gift of telekinesis and even though he hadn’t discussed it with Shey, he started touching her with his gift while he was in another room. It seemed to me such a waste when he used his gift on Shey without having her consent first, especially when I think of how much interesting their erotic scenes could have been if he had used it when they actually were together. The possibilities were endless and the way that gift was used was disappointing.
I voluntarily reviewed the free copy that I received via Reading Alley.
**** SPOILER ALERT **** With "Revenge" Lopez delivers another fine action packed love story wrapped in a mystery with plenty of twists and turns. The author continues to do a fine job of world building and character development. Q: Will Shey forgive Berto? Q: Will Berto solve the mystery of who is sabotaging his work and seeking revenge against him? Q: Will we, the reader, hear more of Berto's friends Adam and Genesis? A: Get this book, read it and find out for yourself. In the interest of transparency: I was given a free review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review. This is my own honest opinion.
This is the second book in the series and continues right where the other story left off. Now is the time that all of the pain that Drak caused (in the first book) is in the works of a rescue.
Berto's life changed when he was just a little boy. His mother died and his father left on the same day leaving him in charge of an infant sisiter. He finally gets a job opportunity that will keep him from stealing to survive. He was going back to the cave where is sister and he lived to tell her the good news. He reaches the cave only to find that his sister Mariposa 7yrs old, being held down by two boys as another rapes his sister. Rage and fury build up inside of him and the energy that came out threw two boys into the wall causing their death and the injury to the other. Drak found out his secret and threatened to turn him in to the I.S.P. (Interplanary Space Patrol) if he doesn't work for him. Adam the human man convinces him to confess to the police what happened all those years ago and pray that they believe him. That bit of advice changed his life. The police closed the case of the murders when they confirmed the story with a healer that helped his sister after the rape. He now has a job with the I.S.P.
Shey is a fitness instructor who was taken with other girls that were going to be sold into slavery. A man told her to keep the girls calm and that they would be ok. She had no choice but to trust him. Among the group is Genesis (first book) who is the bounty hunter that Drak kidnapped her and ship. Genesis tells Shey that she has a plan with the human man that they will be able to escape. When they take over the ship the I.S.P. boards the ship and everything changes for Shey.
Now the coumpound that Drak used is now the headquarters for I.S.P. The big bosses ask Berto and Shey, with several others, be part of the teams that will be locating the slaves. Shey is the fitness instructor and Berto is a student under her command. She knows that Berto was the man that was there when she was taken and was also the one that told her it would be ok. She hated him and fantasized about him as well.
Berto is also feeling the desire for Shey but knows that they cannot mate (marry) between other species. Not to mention she is his boss.
When accidents begin to happen it looks like he is to blame. Berto is straight up honest with the big bosses and they believe him 100%. During the workout on the track, an animal lunges at two women. Berto was behind them and used his special powers to strangle the creature. (It was not wasted because the cook took it immediately!!) A while later when he is talking to Shey on the same track another animal lurches for Shey. Berto blocks the animal and takes the brunt of the claws on his back before he could escape. It is begining to look like someone or something wants to kill Berto.
Shey is using her job as a way to investigate her brother's murder 14yrs ago. Only to find out that it was Berto, the man she loved. She was enraged even after he told her about his sister. Her father confirmed that her brother had done that before. Now she has to cho8ose to forgive him for her brother's death like she did for the abduction.
When a person is murdered at the compound and the entire building is under lockdown. Berto is upset that the man who is dead was gaurding the room that he was in just a short time ago. The results came back that it was murder, Berto began to think that maybe he was the target. He openly confessed to the cadets that he was a villian and was being bullied by a man who was ticked off that his sister was among the women taken. His sister was with the group with Shey and was released, but it didn't matter to him. Is he mad enough to tamper with the equipment in the gym? Could he be the man that murdered the gaurd or was there someone else?
The entire compound is a training ground for cadets to become officers. They will be the ones finding the slaves. Once they are trained and the ships are ready to go, Shey finds out that she is on the same ship with Berto.
In another ship Genesis and Adam are going to back up the lead ship. They are being attacked by pirates and are close to crashing. Shey's team races over to help them and is successful bringing down the pirate ships. But how did they know where they were going? Is someone on the ship bugged or a traitor?
Once they are on the ground they find that there is also pirates there in the towers. A few shots from their weapon and the bad guys are either dead or surrendering.
Berto, Shey, and Genesis are all praying that their families are inside and alive. Feeling relief that the mission was a success and families were reunited, Shey and Berto are torn about their future if they are allowed to have one..
This book gives a complete and well rounded description of the events happening to several main characters. The moral, legal, and revenge feelings are very realistic. It is easy to get lost inside of the pain and sorrow that these people are going through. I love that it adds to the story in the first book. I love seeing the decisions that are made and the hope that it will all work out.
Lots of twists and turns making you sit on the edge of your seat trying to solve the mysteries along side of the characters! I was given this book to review from the author/publisher through Reading Alley and in exchange I give my unbiased opinion.
This was an ok read. I did not enjoy it as much as the first book as I found the levels of angst too high & the back & forth with the two main characters was a little tedious after the first third or so of the book. A good background story, but for me too YA/young for the characters ages, not as good as book 1.
I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review. Although confusing for me at the start due to not having read the first book I found this to be a exciting story line. A good mix of characters with loads of action.
