USA Today Bestselling author P. Dangelico loves romance in all forms, furry creatures, the NY Jets (although she’s reconsidering after this season), and to while away the day at the barn (apparently she does her best thinking shoveling horse poop). What she’s not enamored with is referring to herself in the third person and social media. Although she was born in Milan Italy, she’s been Jersey Strong since she turned six.

I was intrigued from the bebinning and I was hooked! The story is fast paced and the romance slow burn! There is angst between Sebastian and Vera, and they have some really hot and intense moments!

A Million Different Ways by P. Dangelico is the story of Vera Sava and Sebastian Horn. It is also debut author that I am so happy to have read her first book...and cannot wait for the next one. There is a cliffhanger that sets the story for the next book about Vera and Sebastian, but I enjoyed this book so much I didn't really mind it. I wanted the story to keep going on about Vera and Sebastian...it was to good to end in one book. So don't let that hold you back from reading this great book!.

I have read the previous reviews and thought it might not be true that this author had a debut book that hit a home run so quickly. It has happened before for me with other authors, but reading the previews it didn't read to me that it would be a 'WOW' book... how wrong I was!! If you like a hurt (inside and out) alpha male hero with a strong on the run/in trouble women with a heart to big...then this book is for you.

Vera has been on the run for about six years after her father was in trouble for embezzlement and killed himself. Vera was also set up to a part of it by having money transferred into an account with her name on it. So she went on the run instead of facing the false charges. Her friend Emily who is involved with a Russian Mob has been helping her hide and move around.
Vera dream is to get into a residency to work as a Family Dr which she is trained in. While she wait to find that job she takes different jobs while on the run. One leads her to being a housekeeper for Sebastian.

When Sebastian and her meet she is quickly attracted to him but he has an attitude and is very hateful to her. Things don't get any better the next few times they meet. Which makes Vera uncomfortable but at the same time she knows any feels she has for him can move forward not just because she is his housekeeper... she has made it a habit not to get attached to anyone or make friends.

But Sebastian has moved past fighting his attraction to Vera. Vera tries to continue to fight her attraction to him but, he wins her over and they start an affair. Vera tries to make it clear that she plans on leaving as soon as she finds a job to start being a Dr at a Family Practice. That this is just a temporary relationship.

Can Vera stick to her plan of leaving when she get her dream job? Will Sebastian find out she is on the run and why? Sebastian has a lot of trust issue and needs to be in control. Can Vera deal with this after being on her own for so long and running her own life?

Surprisingly, the book started very well. I was hooked.

Poor h gets a job as an housekeeper at the H’s manor.
At first he is rude to her but of course it was because he is smitten by her. They are physically attracted to each other. There chemistry was HOT. I loved that part. But also after some point it got repetitive and boring.

Anyways the book ends with a cliffhanger.

Review posted at: Let me start this review by saying this book as some of my favorite things in romance books: a hero who appears to be a jerk, but actually isn’t (think Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice or Mr. Rochelle from Jane Eyre) and who is also a millionaire.

A Million Different Ways may have a hero that described like that make us think the story might be a bit “superficial”, but it’s just the opposite. I devoured this book from the very beginning. Vera, the heroine, is full of sass and has more than a backbone. She’s smart and kind and I really liked and connected with her. Sebastian Horn is everything I love in a book boyfriend. And I’m in love and want him for myself.

And the story. I LOVED the pace of this story. I absolutely ADORE stories where we can actually see (and feel) the main characters falling in love. It’s not a case of insta love or even insta lust. The story, just like their love, is built. It’s not a slow pace either. It’s just perfect for the plot P. Dangelico created.

A Million Different Ways has just the right ammount of drama to keep the story going and the story flows flawlessly. I was really impressed with P. Dangelico’s writing. Not only the story is well built and the plot well thought, but the writing is really good too. This was a great book to introduce me to this author’s writing.

The story will make you want to keep reading and you won’t belive how fast you read until you see you finished it. It does end in a cliffhanger, but not a bad one. Not for me (and I don’t mind them so much, I rarely get bothered by a cliffhanger and it’s not always I consider an ending everyone gets desperate about a cliffhanger). Despite connecting with her and the facat I really liked her, I got a bit frustrated by Vera, specially towards the end of this first book. I guess she has her reasons, but I think she could have handled things a bit better or even in a more mature way. Now I wait anxiously for the second book. I feel there’s so much more coming after everything in this book that isn’t yet resolved, but the author hinted about in the story.

I also feel that more is coming for some side characters, like Vera’s friend and Sebastian’s best friend and also that more is coming from the villans in the story. I don’t think they’ve done nearly as much bad as they seem to be able to do. But I’m sure Vera and Sebastian will get everything sorted. I’m dying to see more of how they deal with their romance and them falling even more in love with each other. But they need to give each other that chance.

I really can’t wait for more of P. Dangelico’s writing and Vera and Sebastian’s story. The second book can’t come soon enough for me!

********************

I started A Million Different Ways at 3 am and now it's 5:30 and I already have a book hangover!!

I LOVED IT!!! P. Dangelico's writing hooked me from the beginning and my heart is feeling so many emotions right now!!!
Great book!!

Great writing and right upto the 40% mark, this was a stellar read! Even a dead-ex and the heroine watching the hero have sex with someone else (waaayyy before they get together) couldn't deter me as I absolutely adored the writing. And then.... once they got together... the normally stoic, arrogant hero becomes this clingy, whingy and lets not forget..grinning man. Felt like i buzzed into a different book. Add in the plot twist of jealous ex-lover taunting the heroine making her run away..and i was DONE. So much potential, but will give the next one a miss.

When someone reads more than a hundred books a year, it could be so refreshing to find a book that is really different that the others. It was so great to take a little trip to a European environment and somehow it seemed like we jumped not just in space but in time too, because the last book I read with a similar plotline took place in the XIX. century. Although the “housekeeper who works in a huge household and the rich lord” seems old, the subject of the illegal immigrants really is the problem of today.

The main character is Vera, who had to escape from Albania 6 years ago after the tragic death of her father. After the tragedy, she travels to Milan where a scholarship waits for her. After she gets her medical degree she moves to Switzerland but after she isn’t accepted for any job, and her visa expires she has to live illegally without job, money and food.

She gets to Geneva with some help of a friend, where as the housekeeper of the billionaire Sebastian Horn her life takes a new turn. She finally has roof above her head and food in her belly and she really puts her all into the work. However Sebastian has a horrible attitude towards her from the first moment. Until it reveals that his anger towards her is no other than attraction.

Both characters had to deal with a very hard past, but as we are moving forward in the story and the emotions are slowly unfolding, the deep scars of them also start to heal. The characters were great, and I loved that Vera was a really independent and strong woman. And besides the story contained so many steamy scenes the author could also inweave some really thrilling threads into the story.

I truly think that this story could have been a strong 5 stars read if it’s a little shorter, especially because the ending totally put me on the edge of my seat. It was so captivating! But in the middle of the book I felt sometimes that we are running the same rounds that I am reading the same struggles. But apart from this, I still think that it is almost unbelievable that it was the writer’s debut book. The story ends with a very thrilling cliff-hanger, so I can’t wait to pick up the next part of the Horn series.

The book starts with Sebastian's childhood letters to Santa, detailing the breakdown of his parents' marriage. They serve to show us that the gruff man we are about to meet was once a sweet little boy, however, I found them an unnecessary gimmick. Flash forward 24 years to Geneva, Switzerland, where our narrator, Vera Sava, has just lost her job. Desperate, and under the threat of deportation to her native Albania, Vera takes a housekeeping position at the Horn estate, even though she is a fully trained doctor. Vera's first encounter with Sebastian Horn, the master of the house, is anything but idyllic, but we all know they're going to end up together! The question is, how? She'll undoubtedly have some competition along the way from the rest of the young female staff and numerous wealthy socialites. But what secret is Vera hiding from her past that has led her to where she is now? And when will it catch up with her?

This book is a described as a contemporary romance, but it should be labelled as an erotic romance, and the cover should be changed to reflect this genre. There is not much to the story, which mostly consists of graphic sex scenes. My major complaints: I would have liked to have seen more of Sebastian's high flying business dealings and less of Vera's domestic dramas; there are way too many misunderstandings and incidences of lack of communication between Vera and Sebastian; Vera is a trained doctor but can't even work out what's causing her illness; French words are not in italics which can lead to some confusion (e.g., French diner means "dinner" but looks like a spelling error); there are numerous editing errors, mostly incorrect word usage not picked up by spell-check; the title doesn't come into the story until 80% of the way through the book, then it is repeated four more times; the story ends on a massive cliffhanger, leaving a plethora of loose ends.

Warnings: coarse language, prescription drug abuse, numerous graphic sex scenes (including BDSM, voyeurism, and even bestiality in a dream sequence), ends on a cliffhanger.

I received this book in return for an honest review.

This book was just okay for me. While the sex scenes were HOT, they were often repeated and were the only thing that kept this book interesting in my opinion. The book really dragged on at times, which wouldn't have been so bad if the book didn't end with a major cliffhanger. If you're going to drag the story on, at least do it to make a longer book and not to make the reader have to purchase the second book in this series.

I found Vera to be quite immature at times, despite the fact that she supposedly had finished medical school and was searching for a place to complete her residency. I would have expected someone who had gone through all of that to be more mature, but unfortunately this was not the case with Vera.

The term "lover" annoyed me like you wouldn't believe. Perhaps this is a common term of endearment in other countries, but in the US I have never heard someone refer to their significant other using this term when speaking directly to them. It just felt weird and distracted me each time I read it.

Overall, the book was just okay. I hate when authors split books into two parts just to make readers purchase another book. Combined with the fact that the author admits that she didn't even plan a second book until she saw what the responses would be with this book makes me question how thought out the next book will even be.

A star crossed romance against the backdrop of beautiful Geneva? What could go wrong? Everything. If not done properly this book would have a been a waste of time and paper but lucky for us Ms Dangelico has done an amazing job with the background she had. Also to know that this was a debut novel? Amazing. I’m two years too late for it but I am in love with this book. The writing was right up my alley and I loved how non-one-dimensional all the characters were.

We have our brooding hero and our sweet heroine. Their love wasn’t instantaneous. It built along the way and we saw how it built. There was lust at first and later we see the romance. The whole journey of it was believable. I loved how everything played out except maybe the end. She took a stupid decision but I know she was trying to save him. I really hope their baby does make it. They need that healing moment between them.

I dying to read the second installment so nice I didn’t know this would end in a cliffhanger. Normally I stay away from books that have cliffhangers and if I don’t have the second book but I was blindsided by this one. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on the second book too.

I am so happy I discovered this new (to me) author. Her heroines are strong and likable and her heroes are 100% alphas, bossy and mercurial. With all of the current concerns over immigration going on in the U.S. it is refreshing to read a version of immigration as told by an immigrant from Albania who ends up living in Geneva Switzerland illegally. Every day is a struggle to survive for her, constant raids rounding up people without visas and the inability to get an internship so she can use her hard earned medical degree. I usually do not read billionaire stories anymore...too many after 50 shades, but this author takes it to another level. Based in Geneva Switzerland, this is THE playground of the wealthy and entitled. I am not going to reiterate the entire book description here, but this has everything I love, secrets, lies, suspense, really hot sex and likable characters.

Dear author,
once you decide to set the story in a country unknown to you please conduct a thorough research. Europe is a complicated political construct where various states are united by different treaties:
- Europe, the continent, consists of 48 states;
- 28 of these states form the European Union, whose citizens can live and work without visa anywhere within; neither Switzerland nor Albania are part of it so an Italian/Albanian would need a work visa for Switzerland and vice versa;
- 19 of them have a common currency called Euro. Once again neither Albania nor Switzerland participate. Vera would have 100 000 Schweizer Franken (CHF) in her bank account and not Euro. But as she has only visitor status in Switzerland I doubt she can open an account with a bank.
- 26 European states signed the “Schengen Treaty”, it means there are no passport inspections at the border. Switzerland is part of it, so Vera could have taken the train from Genova to Milan without fear of being controlled. There was no need to get a lift by a drug courier.

Albania is considered a poor country and that a dean could be able to afford an English nanny and later a tutor for his daughter on his meager salary is ridiculous.
Aleksander going to Brussels doesn’t work as well: he is Albanian, speaks Albanian maybe some English, whereas the language in Brussels would be French or Flemish.
Switzerland has a great medical system, everybody is insured so there are no doctors/clinics for poor people.

Otherwise the book had the typical Cinderella plotline including the evil sisters in form of jealous ex-girlfriends or socialites, the aversion turning into lust was well developed, the class distinction well decribed. In the end there was too much drama: assassination attempt, embezzlement in Albania, embezzlement in Genova, pregnacy, blackmail, flight, drug courier, flight, … The sex scenes were repetitive, her inner musings immature.

Need book 2 ASAP

Oh wow so much angst in this book. It had a fifty shades feel to it but without all the crazy bdsm parts to it. I can’t say that I absolutely loved the heroine, I liked that she was intelligent and educated, but at times she seemed weak which I didn’t like. It was going really good till the end. Her actions at the end seemed so completely idiotic that I couldn’t reconcile her previously shown intelligence with the decisions she made. I understand that the author needed a cliffhanger, but the way she went about creating it conflicted with the heroine’s character.

Regardless, I’m on to book2 because I loved Sebastian and i absolutely need to know how this story ends.

Yay for representation. The heroine is an over-qualified Albanian immigrant 20-something looking for a job as a medical resident in Geneva. For various reasons her shegged up past leaves her with no option but to end up as a housekeeper in a fairytale estate.

The hero is a grumpy billionaire with a messed up past and a couple of addictions. Didn't care for how high handed he was at times. This book is a hair's breadth from being European 50 Shades of Grey but I ate it up and licked the plate. It ends on a cliffy though so have book two ready!

DNFed at 75%.
Didn't realize it was a duet when I first started reading and tbh I'm not a big fan of duets.
However, it started off really well. I did like the characters, Vera and Sebastian, loved the chemistry they had together.
Unfortunately, I'm a fan of slow burn and these two got together way too fast for my liking. After that it got a bit repetitive. And I think that's why I got bored with it.
Another thing was that I realized there was another book. And I figured I was at the point where shit was about to hit the fan. So I stopped.
I was going to finish reading it later but just couldn't get myself to do it.
That's the plan for later. I will finish the series in the future.
So far it's a solid 3.5 stars from me.

Gave up at 70% (skipped fair bit too). Stilted writing. Juvenile hero. Daft heroine. Threadbare plot. Frequent sex scenes does not a good romance novel make. Disappointing - really expected more from this author.

A dark story about a woman on the run who finds refuge in the estate of a wealthy and damaged American banker.

Vera hasn't had the easiest life and has reached the lowest point when she has a bit of good luck and gets a job as a housekeeper. Sebastian, the owner of the estate, has yet to recover from the death of his wife and is not the most pleasant of employers.

Their relationship is antagonistic from the beginning, masking the attraction they both feel, but as they get to know each other, it changes to a passionate, yet dangerous affair.

A story that kept me engaged, but left me annoyed since it ends in a cliffhanger. Vera and Sebastian's story continues in A Million Different Ways To Lose You.

I'm intrigued enough to read the next book (though this should have been a standalone, to be honest.) The writing at first was GORGEOUS but then it became about sex, sex, sex--which is great if you like an abundance of it, but like, it was A LOT.

Also, no shade, but does this author have children? In another book I read by her, she has the protagonist go to her first ultrasound where she's asked if she wants to know the gender, which, if I'm correct, is WAY too soon. Isn't it closer to the second trimester--or in the second trimester, when a doctor can truly check?

Another instance is in this book, where she says there's a baby who's maybe two years old and has a single tooth. Considering most babies have a ton of teeth by the time they're usually a year and a half, I had to re-read the sentence to double check that I'd just read that. (Of course there are the medical and late developing exceptions, but this was clearly just stated as a "this is normal for toddlers to not have their teeth yet at two years old.)

Other than those things, this was so addicting. I'm finding that this author is insanely gifted in making her readers want to know more. I'm excited for her other books!

Happy reading!

Lover

I met this author this past weekend, at a book signing, she sat at our lunch table. We were talking and so I decided to give her books go, so this is my first read of hers and it won't be my last. It was a very pleasant unexpected surprise.

The suspense of this story drew me in, and let's not mention the sexy romance between these two, scorching hot. I one clicked book 2 and will continue reading her as soon as I'm done with this duet.

Highly recommend this author.
