Some see Mikhail Gorbachev's glasnost and perestroika as harbingers of a "global spring" in international relations. Yet, in today's world we see a continuing deterioration of basic human rights. Tiananmen Square was a brutal reminder that tyranny is still a reality in our world. Is there Biblical justification for American Christian involvement in international politics and foreign affairs? This carefully articulated Christian theology of international politics is based on a sound understanding of Christianity, international politics, and the relationship between the two.
Why is this book so underrated? I have a grad certificate in advanced international affairs from the Bush School of Texas A&M. Had I read this during my pursuit a few years back, I would have benefited much. What is most surprising about this book is that although it is as old as 1990, it is not "outdated" entirely. It retains the majority of the conservative Christian foreign policy perspectives. Also very useful are the author's judicious handling/introduction of various sociological, economical, and theological (e.g. the origin and spread of the variety of liberation theology) whenever needed. No pages wasted. Very clear writing. I look up to authors like this guy. What a blessing it is to have read it albeit way past my schooling days in international affairs.
