Her new book Hedge Witch is forthcoming from Llewellyn in September 2008.
Years ago, I was meeting with the daughter of a deceased friend of mine and she held out an old shoebox to me that belonged to her mother. Knowing my friend, I instead waited for her daughter to open it. Inside was a male poppet, with a knife stuck into the poppet’s ‘special place’. Her first question was, “What do I do with it?” Silver RavenWolf‘s “Poppet Magick: Patterns, Spells & Formulas for Poppets, Spirit Dolls & Magickal Animals,” not only shows readers how to create poppets, but also how to decommission them as well.
This book is filled with a ton of creative ideas for poppet making. Besides the 36 different patterns that RavenWolf includes, she also incorporates multiple creative ideas for poppets, including potato and egg poppets, cookies, birdseed and dog treats poppets, and even snow. She also provides recommendations for various herbs, oils, and stones to incorporate within them.
RavenWolf focuses on positive magic, entirely avoiding negative and dark magic. However, the author does indeed give readers a warning that the misuse of poppets (and magic in general) always returns to the sender in one way or another. This book was well-written and inspiring, not just with poppet creation, but also the author’s approach towards healing and peaceful resolution.
Omgoddess. Silver Ravenwolf wrote a book about poppets. This is the best. Silver has been an inspiration to me since my "baby pagan" days. Her imaginative study of this subject does not disappoint. -Opal Luna, author of Fiber Magick, a witch's guide to spellcasting using crochet, knotwork and weaving
