"Seeking the Shadow" was published in the anthology Tales of Assassins, Mercenaries, and Rogues . About this story, author Joseph R. Lallo says, "In the Book of Deacon 's setting, the Northern Alliance and its southern neighbor, Tressor, have been at war for generations. Almost since the war began an assassin has stalked the northern lands, quickly becoming a legend among the people for both its skill and its elusiveness. This story takes place between The Book of Deacon and its prequel, The Rise of the Red Shadow . It is the much-requested telling of how two of the most infamous figures in the setting first crossed paths."
A stranger is looking for a famous assassin, the Red Shadow, who is apparently more dreaded than death itself. Nice dialogues, interesting twists, the story maybe a little too long for the content, but it managed not to bore. Made me interested to read the main series.
It looks like I'm going through an anthology with these ones. Picked for the length and given how many I got through last night, I might've messed up. Short ones for transport. Long ones for multitasking. I did like this one. It felt like a bounty hunter until the twist. Straight forward bar fight types and then it gets weird. The shadow isn't human and the MC just wants to outdo his father and create a legacy. I wouldn't mind knowing what happens next.

A man seeking an assassin yet not in the way that you expect. As someone not fully familiar with the series a lot of the nuance was sadly lost on me. Still a short and well written story with a twist that I did not see coming. It was a shame one of the characters annoyed me slightly but I can understand his thought process in its own twisted way.
A short story about Desmares searching for the Red Shadow so that he can convince him to use the weapons he makes. We know from the Book of Deacon series that the Red Shadow is the only person Desmares feels has the skills deserving of his weapons.
It's a short story. As a new Book of Deacon fan, having a new story to read helps in the withdrawal symptoms. This is not Lallo's best work, but it's a solid read.
A nice short story of how our 2 companions join up. I rounded up with my rating from 3.5 to the 4. It was a good read, but maybe just too short to be a solid 4. But if you like the Book of Deacon series, which I do, it is a nice short story.
