The women are really driving the narrative of this series, and I am fairly engaged with the story. I just wish Zenjirou wasn’t such a whiny little bitch.
Zenjirou returns to his beloved wife together with princess Freya with the intent to leave the negotiations about intercontinental trade to his wife. Things do not go exactly as planned, not only is the main military leader of the country getting married, Zenjirou has to visit. Culturally it is expected he takes along a partner, his wife if possible, or else a family member. He has no family though and his wife has no time, so whomever comes along is seen as Zenjirou's concubine. In an unexpected bid Freya volunteers. Can Zenjirou keep his marriage concubine free or will politics catch up?
Volume 6 of Sponger Life is much like the previous parts, slice-of-life of a royal consort with more focus on politics and cultural expectations then technology development. I enjoy this kind of story, but there is a distinct lack of action (of the combat kind). It is all about character interaction and a clash of values, although it is refreshing for the genre that the man is opposed to the idea of a harem and even the woman is not happy about it (but realizes the political practicality of it). This time the story was rather slow-paced though.
All in all, a good continuation of the story and I am looking forward to the next part.
