Overhearing the murder of her sister, Lacy Germaine grabs her baby nephew and flees for their lives. But not before she’s seen by the killer—who she’s certain is her lawman brother-in-law. Now an instant mom on the run, Lacy will protect the baby at all costs, and she trusts nobody. Not even her rescuer, K-9 cop Matt Callahan. Despite the police alert issued for the missing little boy, Matt believes that Lacy is innocent of kidnapping. Keeping them safe soon becomes his top priority. But no matter how deep they hide, danger finds them…until Matt is all that stands between the beautiful woman, the vulnerable baby and a desperate killer.
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the fourth book in the Callahan Confidential Series. I really loved the characters in this book. The two main characters where so great. I loved all the action and suspense in this book. Some of the action parts just did not felt real to me, but I liked them. The ending was everything I wanted. The ending was super cute.
So, clearly I've been missing out on something good since this is the fourth book in the Callahan Confidential series and I'm just discovering it now. I don't know how my romantic suspense spidey senses went so askew but, thankfully, the gorgeous cover on Shattered Lullaby screamed 'buy me' so I did! Now I'll have to check out the other stories involving Matt's siblings.
I can't resist a good K-9 story and this one is tremendous! That's Duchess on the cover and she's Matt's loyal partner who can double as a babysitter in a pinch. :-) She gave me plenty of gray hairs during this read though because she's fearless! And yes, there are some pretty cool humans in this story as well. You gotta love a dog lovin' hero dedicated to his calling in law enforcement but not afraid to trust his gut in touchy situations. Like the one Lacy finds herself in. Cue nerve wracking action and edgy suspense as Matt and Lacy dive through mayhem to solve an impossibly complicated case. Four paws up for this K-9 heroine and two-legged sidekicks!
Shattered Lullaby started off with a gripping scene. The heroine hears the murder of her sister and, scared for the life of her nephew, she flees and goes on the run. There was a ton a danger in the story and I never knew what was going to happen next.
I loved how Matt protected Lacy and her nephew. He cared more about her safety than his job, which was heroic. There was proof that what she claimed was true, so it wasn't blind belief. I also loved the whole Callahan family. I cannot wait to read the last book and see what happens next. ;)
All in all, Shattered Lullaby was a wonderful read and I recommend it.

This was not a good book. Poor writing, bad pacing, many plot holes, and overall it just felt like it was forced. I’m only giving it 2 stars because of the dog.
The riveting action and chilling tension from the very start of the story carries through the tale and kept me on the edge, feeling as fidgeted and frustrated as the characters as the clues were not coming in, the potentially deadly attacks continued no matter where they were hiding, and time was running out to stay in hiding. Talk about living in the moment with the characters - truly an intense reading experience. I have enjoyed the Callahan mini-series, the family that pulls together when the need arises, who always has each other back, and are ready to banter and tease as fast as protect. All the stories have been stand-alone novels even though the siblings have had roles in each of the stories. Matt Callahan might be the youngest of the brothers, but he is no less capable, smart, and brave like the rest of them. His relationship with his K-9 partner tells so much about the kind of man he is, loving, caring, protective, that I immediately liked him. Matt's faith in God is unwavering, he trust's God's guidance and protection even as he faces the life and death moments while performing his job. Lacy Germaine is a brave woman. I can't imagine the situation she finds her self in, yet she acts smartly and unselfishly, she puts the little nephew and his safety first and is willing to do anything to protect him, to provide for him, and take care of him in this dire situation they find themselves in. Lacy had never learned to pray or trust in the Lord, yet by Matt's example and guidance, she learns about personal faith in God and learns to pray both in need and in gratitude. I loved Lacy and Matt and the connection they had. With the little nephew and the k-9 partner, the four of them made an instant little family unit, a team that obviously cared for each other, and were there for each other. The attraction between Matt and Lacy was palpable, and the way the romance part was dealt with, given time for the feelings to mature and grow, was just brilliantly, naturally done. With intriguing, edge action and suspense, examples of faith in God both in good and bad times learning to trust in His guidance, mixed with sweet and tender romance, and a loving, rambunctious family, the story kept me mesmerized and captivated while I was completely absorbed in the tale. A great addition to the series! ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
Lacy gets the surprise of her life when she wakes to the sound of her brother in law showing up in the house followed by a few gunshots knowing there's no hope for her sister. Quietly she escape with her nephew and runs into a K-9 officer while shes on the run. Things get even more complicated when an amber alert goes out on her and the child and she reveals to the K-9 Officer, Matt, that her brother in law is a officer and truly when it comes down to it who would the court believe? Matt will do everything he can to keep Lacy and her nephew safe while he is on the case to protect them and see what is really going on.
If you are looking for a clean christian romantic suspense book then look no further. This was such a great book with loads going on to keep the readers hooked. I loved seeing the drama unfold and how much Lacy was able to do her part in helping Matt find out what is going on. Its hard to describe this book without spoiling it so trust me when I say if you love a good clean romantic suspense book then your going to want to check this book out.

I always look twice at books with service dogs on the cover. This is book 4 of the Callahan Confidential series and brother Matt is now front and center not only as a police officer but as a protector of Lacy and her baby nephew. She is a witness to her sister's murder and he's a cop. They try to pin kidnapping charges against her. A nice addition to the Christian based series. Not overly preachy but a nice change from extreme violence and gore.
Laura Scott has a wonder ability of drawing a reader right into her stories, making them feel like they are part of the story. Also helps the reader understand the need for dependence on God for the rough times in life.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Shattered Lullaby. This is the fourth book in the Callahan Confidential Series. This has been a great series and I have really enjoyed it. Laura's books always touch my heart. This story is well written, action packed, and full of faith. You are going to love it.
School teacher Lacy Germaine is visiting her sister for Spring Break. Her sister has a three month old baby boy and is divorcing her husband. Lacy came to help her. She wakes to the sound of shouting, as she checks the baby she hears her brother-in-law say he was going to kill her and her brat if she didn't tell the truth. Lacy calls 911 and then hears a shot. She takes the baby and runs. Who can she trust? Her brother-in-law is a cop, how can she trust his buddies. In the car she hears an Amber Alert on her and the baby, now what?
Officer Matthew Callahan was just heading home after a double shift when he sees a woman run out of the convenience store with a man chasing her holding a gun. He thought the man might be a cop until he starts shooting at the woman. Mat steps in yelling to stop, police! He turns his K-9 lose to go stop the man. The man runs off but harms his dog. He believes Lacy's story; he takes her and the baby with him to the emergency vet. Life begins to become one adventure after another as he tries to keep Lacy and the baby alive and well.
A Journey of two broken hearts trying to save the life of the baby and find out what is going on and who wants them dead. God protects them. He has a plan for them, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too; a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and let Him lead you out of your mess.
"Shattered Lullaby" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the fourth in a series, but you can understand this book without reading the previous ones.
The heroine was sleeping at her sister's house, helping watch the baby while her sister filed for divorce, when an argument and gunshots wake her. She calls 911, grabs her nephew, and flees the scene. But her brother-in-law is a police officer, and apparently he's put out an Amber Alert on her after killing her sister. Afraid of the police not listening to her and not having positive experiences with men in general, she's reluctant to accept help from the K-9 officer who soon saves her from gunfire when leaving a convenience store. Together, they figure out why the bad guys are after her while dodging bullets.
I liked the hero and heroine, and they were a good team. I can see why they fall in love. The suspense came from the bad guys frequently attacking the heroine and the main characters not knowing who to trust. The hero teaches the heroine to pray when in danger and trust God for protection. They both learn to care for each other (and the baby) as they care for the baby and work together to solve the case. She almost accidentally managed to find critical clues as to who the bad guys were while at the same time some of her assumptions initially led them off the right track.
There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this suspenseful novel.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
Shattered Lullaby a Callahan Confidential series by Laura Scott. A very good Romantic Suspense. Someone killed Lacy Germaine's sister. Lacy was in the bedroom with her sisters baby boy. Lacy took off with the baby so they didn't kill her and the baby. Lacy stops at a convenience store for milk and other baby items. When the gunman came to the store and shoots at her as she is trying to get away. When K-9 Cop Matt Callahan arrives. When Lacy is shot at he gets her in his car and takes off. Lacy tells him what happens and he agreed to check further into it. In his and his brothers research they find out several police offices and a judge and a district attorney are all bad guys. A very good suspense read.
This is another fantastic book. I really enjoyed it. I'm so glad Matt, Lacy and Rory are going to be a family. They have certainly been through a lot. They deserve to be happy.
I really liked this book. Lacy is staying with her sister when an argument wakes her up. When she hears her sister's plea and a shot, she scoops up her baby nephew and runs. She has a somewhat chance encounter with an officer and his K-9 partner. She is worried about the police because her brother in law, whom she believes just murdered her sister is an officer.
Matt Callahan believes Lacy's story and wants to help her. The two of them work well together. Lacy is hesitant to trust but needs to keep her nephew safe and Matt seems like the best option for that. I love how close the Callahan family is. They are there for each other, no questions asked.
This was a 4/5 for me. I truly enjoyed the book and can't wait for more about this family.
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of my book. I received this book in exchange for my honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
Lacy hears arguing and then gunshots and knows her sister is dead, so she grabs her baby nephew and runs. When an Amber Alert comes out stating she kidnapped Rory, she doesn't know what to do. Then she meets K-9 officer Matt with Duchess. He believes her, and vows to keep them safe. But trouble seems to be following wherever they go. Can he keep them safe and find out what is going on?
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with an action and character oriented storyline that has some kisses but no steam. The characters are vibrant and kickass, including Duchess! The Christian ideals are woven into the story and don't seem just added in. Read this series if you like your Christian romances with lots of action and surprises! Enjoy!
This is book 4 in the Callahan Confidential series. I have read all the books in this series and love them all, however if this is your first book to read in this series you will have no problem keeping up.
Matt Callahan is a handsome police K-9 officer. When Lacy Germaine is in desperate need of his help, he does all he can to keep her safe no matter what odds may be against her.
Lacy can't believe how her life is turned upside down. Will she be able to put aside her trust issues and trust this handsome K-9 cop, even though she knows not all police can be trusted.
I loved the action, suspense, mystery and romance in this book. The Callahan family have a great love and loyalty to each other. I look forward to hearing more from this series.
What would you do if you heard the murder of your sister and then have to go on the run with your 3 month old nephew? Never being a mom yourself you life completely flips upside down. Lacy must dig deep and rely on her instincts and common sense to care for Rory. After multiple threats on his life and attempts made on hers who can she trust? Will she make it out alive to provided Rory a Chance at a good life and future?
Caught red handed by Matt Callahan, Lacy isn’t sure if she can trust him or not. Will he turn her and Rory in to the police or will he offer her protection until the killer is caught?
As the storyline develops is there a chance at happiness for Lacy? Can Matt recover from the ghosts of his past and focus on the future?
I liked that one of the main characters was a K-9 officer (Duchess) and how well Matt and Duchess worked together and how much Matt cared about his canine partner.
I didn't like how rushed/compressed the romance felt. They're basically engaged in the span of 3-4 months after meeting each other. In real life, I'm not sure that's wise. Though it does seem to be typical for this line (Love Inspired Suspense).
I didn't guess who was responsible. There were lots of twists where you'd think the danger was passed and then a new part of the scheme would be revealed proving that the danger wasn't yet over.
This was a really good book to read if you like mystery's which I do. I was never sure who the murder was and I was never sure what the motive for the murders was. The only part I didn't like was their tunnel vision they assumed the book was about black mail and didn't explore any other options. I loved Lacy's dis-trustfulness of Matt and her complete trust of Duchess at the start, I'm one of those people who doesn't trust love at first sight. That was a really in character moment for Lacy considering her past.
Nothing like a family that always have each others back. Matt a K-9 officer comes upon a young woman trying to escape an armed gunman. Being a Callahan he had to step in and help her. The heroine is running for her life and the life of her orphaned nephew. Why is this person trying to kill her. This one kept me guessing until the end. Cannot wait for the next book in this series.
Guess what, you guessed it I didn't realize it was book 4 but again good news this one can stand alone. I will say we don't know the Callahan family as well as I should have by this point but it did not distract from the story. I didn't realize it until they started talking about how the other couples got involved in dangerous situations.
Matt Callahan stumbles upon an assault and helps Lacy and her nephew Rory escape. But sinister things are happening all around them. Can they unravel the meaning of the entries found in her dead brother in law journal? Full of mystery and suspense all ng with a bit of romance. Now to the next book in the series!
This one has less bullets which is good considering there is a three month old along for the ride. But it's still got action, especially the start. I did love the time they spend together taking care of the baby. It was nice to see what they'd be like as a family. An enjoyable read with some good twists to keep you guessing!,
I love the Callahan clan and how they always have each others back. Laura includes enough suspense and keeps you wondering what's next. Can't imagine how many babies are left orphaned by violence and have no-one to keep them safe. In to book 5.
A great story with the perfect amount of mystery& suspense. Who killed her sister & threatened to kill "the brat?" Who shot at Lacy? It unfolds in the last 2 chapters with a few other players within the story. A very fun read.
