After years of being an outcast, Lexus finally has a chance to reinvent herself at Magna Virtus Academy, a school for students with special powers. But she never dreamed she’d go from social reject to the star of the school. When Lexus develops a unique ability no one else has, half the students envy her, and the other half are fighting to be her new partner. Add in not one but two hunky boyfriends trying to share her affections, and Lexus is definitely in over her head.
As if all of that wasn’t overwhelming enough, something strange is going on with their kind, and Lexus’ ex-partner Jaxson wants her and her boyfriends to forget the fact that he tried to kill them long enough to help him uncover the mystery behind their missing parents.
With a suspect no one dares accuse and a dangerous criminal their only source of help, are the teens willing to risk everything to save their families?
If you like paranormal romance stories with supernatural magic, a love triangle hotter than Twilight, and John Green style teenage angst, you'll be captivated by Taking Flight!

Taking Flight The Caged Series, Book 3 By: Kellie McAllen Narrated by: Heather Taylor This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. This series just keeps getting better and better! The threesome, yes you heard me right, the threesome, gets closer and closer and their powers get stronger. They had decided that since Lexus couldn't decide between the twins, they would share her since their powers where both drawn to her and they both loved her and she loved them. It makes a very interesting time in the school where they are trying to develop their skills. Jackson is the one she is still stronger with but he did have a knife to her throat last book so things are difficult esp. when they are needing him in this one. Big, big details are exposed in this book!!! You don't want to miss this! The narrator is the same and she is so excellent! The perfect person for this series! 10 stars!
By far this is my favorite of the series. We FINALLY got growth in Lexus AND she showed some backbone! She finally finally finally (!!) stood up for herself. I think she's finally accepted herself and has seen her value.
The guys were perfect as always and despite how the previous book ended they are starting to see that Jaxson isn't all bad. Yes, he crossed a line and handled things wrongly BUT there is common ground between all of them and it will ultimately bring them all together. Jaxson is just as lost as the twins and Lex even though he hides it well.
We saw a lot of progression in this book and I didn't expect the twist. The next book has a lot to wrap up and relationships to established - I say established because in case you didn't know Jaxson is joining the group as a love interest 😍. I look forward most to THAT progression!!
I'm dropping the series almost at the end and I should feel bad about it, but they're starting to kill my last grey cells.
Am I the only one thinking that they're a bit young for starting a menage? They might be of age and do whatever they want but they don't scream responsibility nor maturity. It felt just wrong.
I love these characters and I love the story, but I had to downgrade my rating because it was just too, too much "Twilight"! I get that Lexus can't decide between twins Griffin and Phoenix, but enough is enough! Maybe it's because I'm an older adult reading a YA book, but the whole threesome thing was just a little too much for me. Then, add in Lexus' attraction to Jackson......I love romance, but not to the detriment of a good story! At least one-third of the book was about this romance. In a "real" book, I would have definitely skipped a lot of it.
Lexus and her boyfriends, Phoenix and Griffin, are trying to learn all they can at the MVA about controlling their powers as Catalyst and Conduits. However, they are learning some very disturbing things about their parents and it appears that Anders Grant, the head of the school, might be behind all of it. All of their parents have gone missing and the teens vow to find out what happened to them.
Plenty of magic, some unexpected twists and turns and a cliffhanger.....so we know that there has to be at least one more book! The narrator is perfect for this series and the writing and the story are wonderful.
I was offered the chance to listen to this audiobook by the author and chose to review it. I look forward to reading the conclusion so I can get my burning questions answered!
This was an awesome installment. I liked it more than the last book. There were so many twists and turns that I couldn’t stop reading. Looking forward to reading the next book. Five glittery stars.
I have to say that I am just loving this series, and Taking Flight has turned out to be my favorite. Pretty much picking up where book two left off, Taking Flight has Lexus and the twins Phoenix and Griffin comfortable with their relationship together. Things take a turn when they are caught together by Jaxson. I think Jaxson is alittle intrigued by what he sees, jealous maybe. But he wants to enlist the help of the small group, help in finding his parents, and maybe finding theirs as well. But with too much bad blood between them, the whole taking Lexus hostage thing and trying to kill the twins, they don't trust him. I don't want to give any spoilers but something big happens and Jaxson helps them. And the hunt begins to find their parents. What will they find? Good or bad they will get to the bottom of all the secrets, who is involved, who can they trust. Lexus really seems to be growing into her own, and I am really liking her role she is finally fitting into. The twins, what can I say but I love how they love Lexus and their need to take care of her. Jaxson had to grow on me alittle bit, but he is getting there. There is a cliff hanger, but as always it sets up for book four nicely. If your looking for a good youth Paranormal RH, then this series is for you. I do recommend that you read the series in order as they contain events and relationship building from the previous books. I would also like to add just how beautiful these covers are.
Taking Flight is full of twists and turns, secrets and revelations. There is never a dull moment. This book was much more intense than the first two in the series. It definitely held my attention from beginning to end. It's well-written with fully developed characters.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the relationship between Lexus and the twins. I know teens have sex but I have a problem with two 16-year-olds sharing a 15-year-old. Especially when it appears another male may soon be involved.
I do recommend reading Taking Flight and the rest of The Caged Series.
The Caged series written by Kellie McAllen is a slow burn YA paranormal RH, although ménage is probably a better description for the first couple of books. There’s 4 in the series and I purchased the complete set on audible.
So first off I listened to about 10mins and couldn’t handle the narrator. Her voice really set me off and I was cringing when she was doing Griff and Phoenix’s POVs. I think I may have enjoyed it a lot better had I read the books rather than listening.
The characters are well developed. Our FMC Lexus comes from a disadvantaged upbringing. Her father is in prison for manslaughter and her mother is the town drunk hussy. From an early age Lexus has had to look after herself and fight her own battles given she is the schools outcast she is bullied relentlessly. That is until twins Griffin and Phoenix move to town and instantly are interested in learning more about her. Sparks fly when they’re around each other, literally, and when they find out that they are Special they find themselves embroiled in a world they never new existed.
Through the books Lexus struggles with her identity and her desire to keep both boys, it becomes worse when she develops feelings for Jackson. Whilst she is shy she has a massive sense of justice and in the last book we see her overcome some of these struggles when she takes her enemy face on.
The twins are in foster care they have been trying to find out what happened to their parents for the last 10 years but when they meet Lexus it’s the first time they have care more about someone else. But this is also the first time they have never wanted to share so for the most part Griff and Phoenix have this underlying competitiveness to impress Lexus so she will choose one over the other, they bicker and argue for most of the first book and the pressure to choose carries into the second. When they realise that their rivalry is hurting Lexus they must change and try to share. Many times I had a face palm moment because of these two (especially Phoenix). Phoenix in particular is impulsive and a bit abrasive, Griffin is calculating and this time round didn’t want to give up the one thing he wants most.
The story itself is good there are many twists and turns that kept me interested and there are so many slimy characters that you can help but hope our heroine and heroes destroy but obviously you’ll need to read to find out. Just know that by the end of the series there is a HEA.
I don't like leaving spoilers, because I feel it spoils the experience for others, so I will review as best as I can. Kellie McAllen has managed to seamlessly continue Book 3.. from the conclusion of book.2. Without what feels like a heartbeat. I enjoyed the previous 2 books in this series so I was looking forward to see how this relationship with the characters would evolve. You do need to read the previous books in this series so you can work out who is who and what is what, so to speak. Personally I think i enjoyed this one the most, purely becaus, in the other books, I felt like I had a good handle on the characters personalities, and did wonder what direction book 3 could go in. Phew !! there was so many twists and turns from what I was expecting, that it felt like a revolving door, I would just master working it out, then something would swoop in and snatch me back round. As always the plots were easy to understand and see in the minds eye, but the storyline kept me up, way past my bedtime. It was good to see the characters transpose and watch as strength beyond strength emerged from the main characters, but more excitingly from the characters who upto this point had been more in the background. Kellie McAllen has a great talent for expressing emotions and for those emotions to be felt by the reader. I always seem to come away with A tug on my moral compass when I read any Kellie McAllen's books. It's never shoved down your throats by any means, and sometimes it's that subtle it could be missed, the saying "There but for the grace of god go I." Which was first spoken in circa 1510, is still just as relevant today as it was then. Anyway, I'm not going to go into how brilliant I find the imagination and ability of this author as I feel I have already covered this in previous reviews. So to end I will simply say, I am enjoying this series, the cliffhanger was ingenious !! I think it is a great YA novel, even though I'm well past that stage, so take it with a pinch of salt. if you like the description of this series you won't be disappointed. It has love, strength, discovery, mystery, denial, expection, longing, deceit and much more. Would I recommend it ? Most definitely
In the life of Catalysts and Conduits, you would think that things can’t go wrong. You would be surprised. Lexus, Griffin and Phoenix, a magical trio, discover things that make their heads spin in this third book in The Caged Series.
Even though it is touted as a Young Adult book, I couldn’t put this book down. Same for the first two books in this series. Lexus, Griffin and Phoenix have a lot of things happen in this series, yet they handle everything that comes their way with level heads, so there is not a lot of teenage angst. I can actually picture myself as Lexus as she navigates through her high school years with special powers. I wish I had special powers back in high school (and now, to be honest).
Kellie writes compelling stories with interesting characters that take place in descriptive settings. I highly recommend this book, but I strongly recommend starting with Book One, Flightless Bird, to get the most enjoyment out of this series. Kellie does a great job of making each book stand on its own if you haven’t read the previous books, but knowing the back story makes them even more fun to read. Warning: Cliffhanger. This series won’t disappoint, but you will be ready for Book Four when you finish this book!
I loved this! Taking Flight is the 3rd book in the Caged series and I felt this was the most action-packed so far. Jaxson has shown another side to him towards the end of the previous book and now Lexus and the twins are trying their best to stay away from him.
However as time went on, they discovered that Jaxson is quite a complicated character, and sometimes the decisions he made aren't completely within his hands. Jaxson isn't as bad as they initially thought and they discovered an unlikely alliance with him.
Lexus has also grown a lot in this book as well as her relationship with Phoenix and Griffin. They've really progressed a lot since the previous book and it's very interesting to see how it progresses. The students have also begun to discover some startling things within the Academy and will try their best to uncover the truth and bring justice to those behind it.
The ending is brilliant, with another cliffhanger-ish feel to it and it really made me look forward to finding out more in the 4th book!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
Another strong chapter in Kellie McAllen's The Caged series, it's a real pleasure following along Lexus, Griffin and Phoenix as they develop in terms of maturity, understanding and power. The context may be different but the same sort of path in followed, with well-crafted new characters and some returning characters have important roles (hello, Jaxson). I'm not going to summarize the (truly excellent) plot as I don't want to accidentally spoil anything. Having said that, this isn't really the book for newcomers to the series (they really should start with book 1, which is excellent) and, as for others, the kindle blurb does a good job in describing this book and I can pretty much guarantee that if you liked the prior books you'll love this one.
This is Taking Flight, book three in The Caged Series, written by Kellie McAllen. I am enjoying this series and I can’t wait to read the final installment. We pretty much get left hanging over a major cliff at the end of this one. We are in a world full of Specials and Normals. It’s quite difficult to figure out who is good and who is not, especially since they are constantly controlling one another’s minds. I sure hope Ms McAllen is going to be quick with the exciting conclusion! I couldn’t put this one down because of the fast and exciting pace of the story. You won’t want to miss this series. I received an ARC for review consideration.
This is the third book in this series and it does not disappoint. It continues the story of Lexus, a girl who does not have a lot of confidence in herself, but keeps stepping up and meeting every challenge that comes her way. Phoenix and Griffin, twin guys who are both madly in love with Lexus, stand by her and give her the confidence that she needs to face probably the hardest challenge of her and the twins lives.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has suspense, mystery, and supernatural powers all working to make the plot and characters outstanding. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
I love the super powers and the school but I am seriously over the love triangle and Lexus' whiney poor me attitude. I dont know if it's because I am an adult reading a YA but honestly I enjoy alot of YA's. The love triangle and Lexus attraction to Jaxson overtake the story and I would love to see it take more of a back seat - more fantasy and less romance, way less. I also wish that Lexus would grow and get a back bone - her poor me whiney attitude is draining and I don't know how either of the twins can stand her at times. They all need some self esteem and to get a back bone. I will keep reading because the core story is a good one.
WOWZA! This is an Amazing book! Magic; Romance; Mysteries; lies and deceptions. There are so many twists and turns with each new revelation. This is the third book of the Caged Series. Makes sense and understandable even without reading the others. My daughter loved the book so much as well. She rates this book HIGHER than the Star Wars books and any Titanic. The book flows along nicely. Makes sense. I love how the complete story is slowly and logically unfolding. ****I am voluntarily reviewing an arc. I can’t wait to read the next book Flying Free.
Wow I really enjoyed this book. I think it has been the best book in this series yet. Some answers were finally revealed but left more questions about others stuff. Like, what is Anders really up too and what is the reason behind all his decisions? Power? For what? And the boys sharing Lexus is kinda weird but it's working For them so ...okay. And Jaxon turns into a friend instead of enemy like I initially thought he'd be. Anyway my curiosity has me wondering what's going on so off to the next book.
After all the events of the previous book, the story follows Lexus's relationship with Phoenix and Griffin, as well as the discovery of the powers they are capable of. And when Jaxson joins them and they try to figure out the whereabouts of their parents, things get interesting and tense. The story is full of startling twists, and the ending just left me open-mouthed. I can't believe that Kellie left us with this huge cliffhanger! I'm anxious for the next book. I highly recommend the reading.
My third read/listen from author Kellie McAllen the follow-up to Growing Wings (The Caged Series, #2) WOW! I love it! In just 3 amazing books Kellie McAllen has become one of my favorite authors. High school sucks, the age the stuff that some kids have to go through. This book touches on all that and more. No spoilers here this is a must read, buy the book, get into the book/series as I have. You too will enjoy it! Amazing listen, the narrator has done an incredible job with an amazing book!
Book three in this awesome series and the story continues. Lexus has Griffin and Phoenix back at her side and Jackson is still sniffing around
They team up to get answers on their missing family, and what they find is very disturbing and upsetting, they continue to find more to their powers and still have trouble trusting each other
Another fantastic read, well written with great character chemistry and an exciting storyline I highly recommend this book
I really enjoyed reading this book. I was glad it was included in the box set, since it picks up where the previous book left off. Lexus and her boys are the MCs in this book for the most part, and I really enjoyed taking part in the adventure alongside them. I would recommend this book for anyone that is a fan of YA fantasy/paranormal, and would strongly recommend you start this series with book 1. Each book leads directly into the next.
Book 3 in The Caged series is well written with an excellent plot and characters. It includes a threesome of special teens, two boys and a girl, but it is very tasteful and not at all explicit. It was a wonderful read! I received a free copy and could not wait to review it!
Things heat up in this third installment. I enjoyed how the mystery intensifies and truth and lies are uncovered. I definitely can't wait to find out what happens next. I voluntarily reviewed an arc from the author.
Amazing book to continue the story. Lexus IS finally at a school for special powers and is at the top instead of the bottom. I just couldn't put it down. Definitely ready for more by this wonderful author.
Jaxson, Phoenix, Griffin and Lexus are determined to find the parents they have lost. They team up to see what they can find. Does Anders know something that he is not telling them? Will they be able to find any information in his office to help them locate their parents?
This third book in the series continues from the second book and does end in a cliffhanger leading into the last book. In this story all the characters grow and learn. The story is fast and dramatic. I'm looking forward to reading what happens next.
Loved this continuation of the Caged series. Picked up where the last book ended and swept me right back into the story. I love the characters and I can't wait to get book 4!
I'm sorry I gave this book a chance. I was hoping Lexus would finally grow out of her poor me personna. She didn't, which drove me crazy. The three some thing going on as well bugged me a lot. It may of worked. But the way they where written it just did not work.
