What a wonderful book. I loved it very much especially after these two got married and adjusted to a new reality and life.

The book starts off with the heroine who works in a PR firm getting a new assignment, one she isn't sure she is upto. She has changed a lot, her marriage to a senator took away her self-esteem and she is now trying hard to build it and her assignment is the hero Caleb, a brilliant man who only lives for work so getting him to do what she wants will be tough.

The hero and heroine know each other, they went to high-school together but their lives diverged, he went on to become a researcher who considers himself to be a machine and not human and prefers that actually.

Seeing these two was fun, the heroine doesn't know what to do with their attraction while the hero has some ideas, he knows that she can disrupt his life and they do become lovers but then Glory backs off afraid while the hero finds himself angry.

I found the pregnancy announcement hilarious, she by mistake put it in his speech and then he chases her down in the ladies room and proposes, she refuses but he is persistent in a total, lost nerdy way, telling her what benefits they will have when they get married and what not.

He even asks his family for tips and they find themselves married. I liked it how it was not all easy-going, the heroine suffers from doubts, what if the hero gets lost in his work again and there are moments when he does and she is angry but she expresses herself and he apologizes, before she knows it, she's in love with him.

I liked how they showed marriage is a compromise, adjusting to each other's needs, the hero doesn't know what to do at times and feels panicked when he sees Glory sick, sad or even in a situation he perceives as dangerous.

My eyes even misted in the end, when Glory was in the hospital giving birth and the hero felt tears in his eyes at the thought of losing her. He found himself human and the heroine saw through him to the hidden truth about how much he cared.

The reason the book worked for me was because it felt real and even when the hero was talking all logical I could feel him falling.

EXPECTANT FATHER is the type of love story I like best. The plot is pretty basic, it's the characters who make the book so special. They are real people with flaws and insecurities who've been hurt/are afraid to be hurt and fear getting close to each other. They're not annoying, cardboard cutouts and I genuinely liked them. By their actions, thoughts and dialogue the reader gets to see them slowly fall in love. Never once did I pause and think "why the heck is she falling for him/her?" like I usually do. And best of all the hero, who's a bit on the arrogant side and who deserved a whap across his beautiful head a few times, gets tamed and he doesn't even realize it ;) I usually don't care for bossy men but this guy was a heart-stealer and sexy as sin. Although I didn't find this book as "hot" or witty as the author's previous book "A Date With Dr. Frankenstein" I still highly recommend it, especially to those who enjoy character driven stories, it's a feel good read with humor and lots of heart.

After turning in two PW reviews in as many days, I took some time and re-read one of my few B+ category reads - Leanne Banks' Expectant Father. It was still as good as I remember, and when I got to the part with The Velveteen Rabbit, I cried. Readers looking for absent-minded professors who are also brooding and passionate but locked within themselves should definitely look for this one at the UBS.

Aww, this was cute. No kidnapping. No amnesia. No Greek Millionaires. But it did have a grumpy science genius H. And the h was normal other than her emotionally abusive ex husband (The Senator). They knew each other in high school. He tutored her in science. She tutored him in English. They were just friends. FF years. She’s his PR rep on his speaking tour on Alzheimer’s research. Bing bam boom & they can’t not sleep together, lol. Of course, the first time that they sleep together they only have 3 condoms, but have sex 4 times which lo & behold = a baby! Thus the title. Rest of the story is about them getting used to each other & him learning what love is. There was this plot point that included The Velveteen Rabbit book that I thought was clever. This couple is really cute together. 🥰

First Thoughts:
I've been going through books that I'd read and given four stars to, the majority have been demoted. This is another example of those kind of books. I don't know if it's the loss of excitement from the first read but that kind of still hold true considering that I couldn't remember anything of the plot.

What Is It About:
Glory works for a PR firm, she's tasked with getting a scientist to make some speeches to gain attention and funding. This scientist is Caleb, a guy that's she's known from high school. There's an instant attraction between the two of them but Glory's hesitant after just coming out of an abusive marriage. As you can probably tell from the title and the blurb, she becomes pregnant.

What I Liked and Didn't:
I liked the characters of both Glory and Caleb and their relationship. I enjoyed Caleb's work ethic and the fact that Glory didn't try to change him from being a complete workaholic. I liked the banter between the two of them.
I didn't dislike any aspect of the book, it just missed certain bits that made it hard to give a high score, especially the four that I'd given it originally that I can't justify.

Final Thoughts:
It was a cute-sy kind of read and I can see why I did and have enjoyed it. While it was demoted, I still liked reading it. Would I recommend this? Why not, if you're into this kind of thing. I also plan to read the rest of the series out of pure curiosity because I liked the rest of the family.

Caleb and Glory knew each other in high school, then Caleb left and Glory moved on to marry a Senator. Her husband was abusive, verbally and physically, so she filed for divorce. Glory joined a PR company and got her assignment, which was Caleb.

After a night of high intense passion between Caleb and Glory, Glory gets pregnant. Caleb wants to do the right thing and marry her. Glory is not too sure if she can put up with his scientific research because he puts everything on the back burner, including her.

Over time Caleb finds and balance, Glory falls completely in love with him and they get married. However Caleb doesn't know that he loves her and he might just tear her apart before he gets the brains or heart to figure it out.

The book was pretty emotional. For everyone that has read "The Velveteen Rabbit", well it has lots in common with this book. I was thinking about "The Velveteen Rabbit" before they even introduced the book to this novel. It was great to read.
