This was another amazing story with complex details to it, but not too much that it made the story boring.

The characters were the same and just as awesome as before. I still felt a connection with the characters.

The story-line, though very complex, was an incredible read. I love how the author takes us into a different place that no other author has been before. A place into many past parts of the previous books, which made this a unique and fascinating story. I am curious about where this author will take us next and I highly recommend it. I do recommend that mature 18 and older read this story due to the graphic scenes in the story.

“My dad has been having dreams about what happened while Starke possessed him.”

Canadian author E.H. James is a prolific writer of short stories – stories that test the imagination and call forth ghost like thoughts of the dark world about which we know very little. James is part of that conundrum as there is no biographical information on this gifted author as though that is meant to be part of the mysteries presented. We learn that she has read and researched in the areas of parapsychology and metaphysics, for the past 40 years, and has woven the real and imaginary together into stories of the strange and bizarre. The fruits of her labor show!

James’ mastery of the short story is obvious to those readers fortunate to have been introduced to her craft. In a matter a few pages she is able to conjure an atmosphere that challenges the reader’s courage to enter past the initial page, and the manner in which she quickly sketches lifelike characters and draws us into their interactions with the challenges they encounter is masterful.

THE DEMON SERIES of which ASCENSION: THE CHOSEN is the fifth volume demonstrates James’ mastery of the short story. In a brief 60 pages she elevates the suspense for the entire series even more. The entire Demon Series will cover centuries; the fifth volume opens in New York in 2035.

James’ synopsis covers the story well ‘Jesse returns from India, ten years later, in his arms a Katemara. But he is not returning to the world he left. Demons are possessing humans on a regular basis. Committing crimes and leaving the humans to suffer the consequences, the demons are amassing huge sums of money. Left to wonder what the demons could be plotting, Jesse knows they are after more than just mischief, pain, and pleasure. But when Cole confesses to one of Starke's murders, believing himself responsible for not having stopped Starke, Jesse and the gang have more than just demons to worry about. And when overwhelmed by demons bent on killing them, they must run. Will Jesse take his rightful place as the chosen one, or will the demon occupation prevent the ascension?’

Knowing that the series continues makes the mystery of part 5 a very exciting continuation and growth. E.H. James is a master writer

Continuing on from Book 4 Possession, Jesse is back from India some 10 yrs later, with the world full of demons and their scheming, possessing humans and getting stacks of cash, but for what purpose?

Jesse must step up to try and put a stop to the demons and their plans, with Cole confirming one of Edward Starke's murders, Jesse feels guilty for not having stopped Starke before. But the tables are turned and the demons are coming after him and his friends, will he be able to put things he learned in India to use and step and become The One.

I loved the continuation of the story and the with the connection of the characters and the story evolving from the previous books you are getting to see a bigger picture here of just what is going on. A very entertaining read that just adds to this Demon Series!

Jesse Miller hopes to overcome the burden that has been set upon his shoulders. Despite the fact that he's vanquished a slew of demons, the creatures brought forth from the underworld are still intent on claiming a world they now deem theirs. In the eyes of the entire world, he's been chosen to cleanse it of the filth the demons have left behind. If he's to succeed in sending them back completely, he'll have to fully accept a role he's been thrust into against his better judgment.

Picking up where the last book left off, we get to see Jesse overcome the uncertainties that have plagued him from the moment he became aware of the fact that Edward Starke still existed. He's no longer the bullying child his friends and family came to know so long ago, fully growing into his role of being a self-assertive and decisive man. Granted, there are times when he isn't sure if the decisions he's made are the right ones. It frightens him to know that the world as he once knew it is no longer the one he now lives in. Nevertheless, he'll do whatever is necessary to ensure that the demons do not overcome the world he's trying his best to save.

E. H. doesn't disappoint when it comes to further branching out the world she's created around these characters. She's given us so many complex sides that it truly keeps you guessing. I like the fact that she continues to tie up loose ends left behind from previous books. With every new book, she gives us further insights as to the why's and how's of Edward Starkes endeavors. She's shown us that this is a ruthless man, one who lives and breathes only for himself. Nevertheless, there are those who are willing to thwart his plans in every way possible.
