God I hate a stupid heroine. First of all the prologue where the h's twin sister comes to her to tell her she is pregnant by a married man. The h is determined to save her sister from their father's wraith by some convoluted story involving the queen a nunnery and a story so farfetched the nuns would have to be drunk on sacramental wine to buy it.

Fast forward to the start of the story. The psycho father is leaving her stranded in a cave with no way out but jumping into the ocean and drowning. He thinks she's been sleeping around because she started rumors about herself to take the heat off of her sister. Apparently no one in the 13 century knew what a pregnant woman looked like. So starting a little gossip about herself would throw everyone off the track.

Enter the hero. Sailing on a ship and despite a gazillion to one odds he notices her on the cliff. Recognizing a damsel in distress he has them stop the ship and goes over to climb the cliff to save her. Is she excited? Happy? Thrilled to be rescued? Nope. None of the above. She doesn't like that he is a highlander and keeps insisting he go away . She's fine. Likes being stranded on a cliff. She'll just hang around there waiting to die. Maybe her father will recover from his "madness". Not likely. Obviously madness runs in the family.

Nevertheless the hero keeps trying to coax her down. Why? LEAVE HER THERE! She's an idiot and her father is deranged. You do not want to have children with this woman. But he's been in prison for 10 years so his dating skills are a bit rusty. And talk about coincidence. Her father was his lunatic torturer.

Gave it 2 stars because it's a dnf and for all I know she grew a brain somewhere along the story. However you couldn't pay me to finish it to find out.

Eliza knight knows how write good thought processes. There can be a bit on instantaneous love in her writing but the development of feelings is so seemingly that it does not feel as such.

Tierney thought Rosamond was a ghostly apparition and honestly if I had seen a girl standing at the edge of a cave in front of a cliff, I would have thought so too. Except I would have done the cross signal, prayed in the 8+ religious I’m baptized in and called it a day. I would definitely not climb the cliff to see if the woman was real and whether she needed help.

(She did need it. Turns out Rosamond suffered from the mad father and indifferent, spoiled, brainless sister syndrome.)

Giving that Rosamund as thanks brandished a burning log at him and burned herself in the process… I would say it was a good match.

The only thing that could have made the book better was either fixing the side plot of war/scheming to just not be page fillers or just getting rid of it all together. The romance would have sufficed.

My other complaint is that the sister definitely did not deserve the happy ending she got… it can be a bit harsh but she knew what she was doing and could not even take the fall for it. I would never make my sister take the punishment for my selfish careless actions. That as a sibling was something I could not swallow. Especially when it seemed like the girl did not learn her lesson at all. Not only was she able find a love that seemed genuine, she had not trouble appearing completely enamored but the next powerful men who walked into the room, clearly flirting with the King right in front of her fiancé… 🙃

She was a minor character but left quite a bad taste in my mouth.

Overall I really enjoyed the book. It was quick, sweet and just what I needed.

4.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Favorite quotes (SPOILERS AHEAD):

“Rosamond wanted love. She wanted children. She wanted a husband who respected her.”
.
.
“The men had suffered much under his father’s rule. They had to go against what they believed in, else risk the lives of their loved ones. ”
.
.
“Lady Rosamond, I never do anything simply because my blood is running hot, as ye say. I have had much time in the last ten years to contemplate my future, and even if I had not come across ye, I would have wanted a wife every bit as full of fire and brimstone.”
She gasped, unsure if she should be offended or not. She thought she ought to, or at least it would be expected, nay? “Fire and brimstone! You might as well say I was bred in the bowels of Purgatory.”
“The way ye fight me I’m beginning to think ’tis a possibility,” he murmured.”
.
.
“The king sent for me, lass. He will accept me, because I pledged my loyalty to him a decade ago. My people, they follow me because they know where my loyalty lies and because I mean to protect them. They trust me. They trust my judgment. And they will accept ye, because I do. I choose ye. I may have been imprisoned for a long time, but that doesna mean I dinna remember what females were like, and ye, Lady Rosamond, are verra different. I want to marry ye. Let the consequences fall where they may.”
.
.
“We need this, ye and I. We need each other,” he said.”
.
.
“Is it luck, husband? Luck that you were set free? Luck that you found me?”
“’Haps a bit of luck. A bit of choice. What do ye think it was?”
She shook her head. “Is it too much to think it was her?” She pointed over his shoulder toward the sketch.
He tilted his head in thought, gazing at the image. “My mother and father would say: nay.”
“And what would you say?” She toyed with the hair at the nape of his neck.
“I would say I was born with a purpose, and I intend to see that purpose through.”
.
.
“Ye owe me nothing, sweetling. We are husband and wife. We are one. What concerns ye, concerns me. What ye need, I need. What ye desire, I desire.”
.
.
“I love to dance, Tier, teach me this one.”
A Scottish reel had begun, the men and women were kicking up their heels and circling about.
“All right.” He took her by the hand and led her onto the dance floor. “But I warn ye, sweetling, it’s been a while since I danced.”
“Then we’ll figure it out together.”
She picked up the moves very easily, perhaps even more easily than him, lifting the hem of her gown to kick her feet and twirl. She had grace and rhythm. A Scottish reel was no easy dance. The men and women of the clan seemed to adore her. When she swung back into his arms, her smile bright, her eyes sparkling, she looked up into his eyes and said, “I love you.”
The words struck him, as hard as an arrow to the chest. ’Twas the first time she’d said them, and he felt it all the way to his core. His heart constricted, filling up painfully with emotion. And an ache, a longing, intense and powerful filled him. On the morrow, he’d leave to complete his mission. And complete it, he would. There was no other choice but to[…]”
.
.
“And I know what I feel is the truth in my heart. I love you, husband, and not because of the legend of the cave.”
Tierney frowned. “Legend of the cave?”
She tugged him back toward their chairs, each of them were handed goblets of wine on the way, and regaled him with the story the healer had told her on the ship. “Do you believe it?” she asked.
“Nay. I dinna believe in magic. I love ye because ye’re full of fire, and not afraid to show it. Because ye’re beautiful and kind and clever. Because ye make me laugh, and because when I was afraid I wouldna be accepted, ye had no doubt.”
“And I was right, was I not?” She winked.
He leaned over, caressed her cheek. “Aye, love, ye were.”
Tierney kissed her then, not worrying about the crowd or who would lay witness to their passion. She was his wife, and legend or no, she was his one true love.”

Tierney is a man on a mission of revenge. He has vowed he will make the English and his tormentor while he was imprisoned, John de Warenne, pay and pay dearly. He pledges false allegience to the English king in order to gain his release from prison, then begins his journey back to Scotland, where he plans to rally his clansmen and oust English forces while battling under the flag of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland.

Along the way, Tierney rescues a damsel in distress, Lady Rosamond de Warenne, daughter of his sworn enemy, John de Warenne. Rosamond reviles her father for abandoning her in a cave to die and plots with Tierney to make her father pay for his many sins with the ultimate weapon of revenge... A marriage between herself and Tierney.

What starts out as a marriage of mutual convenience, and a weapon of revenge, slowly changes as Tierney and Rosamond are swept away by their passion for each other. As friendship, admiration, respect and feelings start to grow and develop between the pair, they wonder if they will be able to hold on to the truly special bond that they share. Or will the lust for revenge and the consequences thereof tear them apart?

I LOVE these two characters, Tierney and Rosamond. They have so much heart, warmth and depth. I felt my fondness for them grow along with their fondness for each. Rosamond is brave, strong, compassionate and smart. Tierney is a born leader, fearless and protective, yet also loyal, gentle and kind. These two were truly made for each other.

Knight was a "new to me" author, and she did not disappoint! This story was very well crafted with interesting characters and a fast-paced, riveting plot line. I am eager for the next book in the series and, now, would also like to go back and read the two books, that are prior to this one.

*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.

4.5 Stars - Great pace! In this story Redemption and Fate Collide!

Tierney MacDougall has endured 10 years in the Tower of London along with several of his clan members. He was imprisoned because of his father's betrayal to their King Robert de Bruce. John de Warenne imprisoned him on the King of England's behalf. He has been his tormentor for all those years. He will have his retribution, but he must prove his loyalty to his King if he is to lead his clan and regain his castle and lands. So with a plan in place, Tierney MacDougall is returning to Scotland along with what is left of his men. He comes across a fiery lass and is determined to save. To his surprise, he and Lady Rosamond de Warenne have a lot in common.

Lady Rosamond de Warenne in order to help her twin, finds herself in a difficult situation, left in a cave to die. When she spots a huge Highland Warrior coming towards her. She defends herself as best as possible.

This is a well paced story and I loved the development of characters. It is a Romance that has a lot of substance. You find yourself rooting for these two characters from the very beginning. I just wanted a little more to bring it all together, but I still loved it! I fell in love with Tierney and was very proud of Rosamund.

Who could possibly punish his daughter for disgracing his name by leaving her in a cave with few supplies?

Lady Rosamond knew her father, John de Warenne, to be unstable.  She had been the strong one, the twin who protected the other.  In this situation, she is doing the same.  Her twin, Loretta, had been secreted away to a convent.  She is enceinte.  If her condition were discovered she would be severely punished by her father and her reputation destroyed.  Rosamond preferred to receive said punishment. If word got around about the de Warenne twins, she would own up, it was her, not her sister.

But she had no idea the punishment meted out would be so extreme.  There was no way down from the cave.  She had nothing with her to coil or climb over the side of the cave and down into the water. She was forced to consider death if her father didn’t come back for her. She was determined to find some way out of this pickle.  Her miracle came in the form of Tierney MacDougall.

Tierney MacDougall, now laird of his clan, had just been released from the Tower of London, after excruciating torture.  He never gave up hope while there.  With a promise he’d be loyal to the English king, as his own father had been, he is released to return home and be laird of the MacDougall clan. He is eager to get back to Scotland and his castle, Dunstaffnage.  Would his men still be loyal to him?  Perhaps, they think he took sides with the English king.

Both Rosamund and Tierney are heroes in their souls—both are noble.  They also have a grudge against John de Warenne.  Tierney would very much like his head, but he must tread carefully.  Their problems and challenges come from John de Warenne, not their attraction to each other.  Each are attracted to the strength of the other.  Rosamund quickly comes to love the man who saves her life, not once, but many times.

If you enjoy plenty of action, with a bit of magic, and honorable love which surmounts evil in a Scottish setting, you are sure to enjoy Eliza Knight’s The MacDougall Legacy series.

Absolutely loved this book. Read it a part of a novella series and then picked up the extended version once it was released. Eliza Knight never disappoints and although I may say that all the time, its an honest review all the time. She has a way of writing strong heroins that can seem like a damsel in distress yet they do not act whiny and meek. Her heros are always to die for and this one was no different. Its a love story that takes off rather rapidly, but when you read and get to know the characters, they do make you believe the attraction was a destiny as neither would be foolish enough to leap right in otherwise.
The struggles in the story were as expected, and highs were great as well. There were a couple twists that keep you interested and the chemistry between the two can not be denied and is a delight to read. Eliza writes such beautiful intimate scenes, Ive read her steamy ones, and the endearing ones, and she is never lacking for just the right amount of "oh yes" in each of her stories. Again, this story line was no disappointment.
Entertaining story with a bit of humor in the H/H! Thanks again Eliza Knight for gifting us another masterpiece!!!

“Our lives are made up of so many moments. Some that last hours, days, weeks, and some that are fleeting…It is in those moments that we choose the path we will take. How our lives will be determined. Even if our circumstances feel unchangeable.”

In an effort to protect her twin sister from the wrath of their father, Lady Rosamond takes the blame for an illicit affair. Driven to madness, Lady Rosamond’s father leaves her stranded in a cave high above the ocean shore with little means to care for herself.

Laird Tierney MacDougall has been imprisoned in horrible conditions in the Tower of London for 10 years. Ever faithful to his true King, The Bruce, Laird MacDougall is finally released. While traveling to his homeland, he sees a light in the cliffs. Drawn to investigate the apparition, Tierney is shocked to find himself face to face with a beautiful woman.

Lady Rosemond and Laird MacDougall’s courtship is as swift and powerful as the waves that crash against the shore. In Rosemond, Tierney finds his soulmate. But will her family lineage be a help or a hindrance to his goal of reclaiming his family’s lands and castle…his people’s freedom.

I’m so in love with this series! Highly recommend!

Laird of Darkness

The cruelty of the English kings were legendary for their cruel and savage torture. Tiernery McDougal had been imprisoned for 10 years during this time he was tortured almost daily and starved also. Most times when they did give him food he would give most of it to his men who were arrested with him. He still exercised and did his daily training procedures as best as he could do as to not lose his muscle mass and strength. When he was finally released he was not so weak that he could not defend himself. His King , Robert the Bruce, sent a ship for him. His friend was there waiting for him to bring him home to Scotland. During the sailing to his home to his home and his King. He meets Rosamond on this journey. She is the daughter of the enemy who captured him 10 years before. Read this novel to learn the story of Tierney and Rosamond.

As the responsible one, Lady Rosamond de Warenne took the blame for her sister's actions, knowing that her very unstable father could possibly kill her pregnant twin. Rosamond's punishment was to be abandoned in a cave, far above the sea, with no chance of escape. Tiernay, having been imprisoned by the evil John de Warenne, rescues Rosamond and the adventurous romance begins. This story was brilliantly written. You felt every bit of the angst of the Heroine and the depth of the anger of the Hero. I loved the concern Rosamond still had for her twin, even after the horrendous punishment by their father.
(This is an extended version of a previously released novella. I definitely enjoyed the added content.)

First thing, I've noticed that the female MC spoke with an Scottish accent at times. I not sure if this is a mistake or was intended. I thought that since she grew up in a English family she'd speak differently. I don't really know. I'm just bringing this to your attention.

Anyway, this story had a lot of scenes that connects with you emotionally. I enjoyed reading it. I really love how patient he was and how he made sure she understood his intentions. Some people might think it's ridiculous how long the MCs took to hash out their thoughts and form a true connection. In a relationship, it's always best to talk about you feelings and thoughts to each other.

This is a very quick and sweet book. Love it!

Honor and Loyalty.

Teirney is the MacDougall heir. Unfortunately he has been imprisoned in London for the last 10 years after he was betrayed by his father on the battlefield. When his father passed he was released to return home and serve the English king in his fathers stead. Tierney had no intention of serving England but agreed to his release and planned to serve Robert the Bruce. On the way home by ship he saw a woman in a cave on the cliffs of Cornwall and saved her. Rosamond had been placed there and abandoned by her father to die after a scandal. The journey that followed for Teirney and Rosamond was about personal growth, trust, retribution, honor, respect, purpose, and love.

I was 74% of the way through this book when I had to stop reading and take a shower. in the shower I realized there was no plot to this book. literally none. event happened that were completely unrelated. the "climax" (can we really call it that?) went off without a hitch, with little effort from our hero. don't know anything about the heroine except her father is an asshole.

I can't believe I finished reading this.

For The Bruce

Confined in the Tower of London prison for ten years, a Scotsman finds himself released when his father dies and makes him Laird. On his way home to Scotland, he rescues a young woman imprisoned in a cave, the daughter of his jailer. Are his feelings for her really love, or for revenge against the man who put him in hell? Good story for an afternoon read.

Absolutely in love with the series..Each story got better with Each book..No unnecessary revenge games & more emotional involvement which I liked the best.....Actually this was more of a redemption & finding oneself stroy rather than revenge-mariage of convience sort of plot..

I realized that whole triology was more focused on the leads itself...the viillans & the side characters were not highlated.. & It was definitely good for me..Besides how can I expect a lengthy description of each situation in a 18 chapter book..
So, if you are looking for a more well described type story it isn't for..However, if want a quick read with less drama, staright jumping into conclusiontype, you should try this one & will not be disappointed..

WOW. THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE AND YET NOT REALLY.

IN A NUTSHELL, the selfless heroine saves the day by the taking the blame for her twin sister's misconduct of carrying a married man's child. Abandoned by her father in a cave, she gets rescued by the hero who had no trouble at all falling for her almost immediately it sucked the fun right out of the story. And soon you'll just have a bit of a hiccup, and then the HEA.

Booorrringggg.....in my opinion. Where's the sense of adventure and smouldering passion? Or where is the depth to the characters?
