How do you prepare for Pentecost? As followers of Christ, we are invited to become Easter people filled with the Holy Spirit. The Resurrection is the center of the Christian faith. Without it there would be no Christian story, Christian church, or Christian way of life. Did you know that the Christian calendar sets aside a season of 50 days between Easter and Pentecost? The Easter season, sometimes called Eastertide, includes our Lord's ascension and leads to the Day of Pentecost, when Christians remember the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Jesus' first followers. Have you ever taken 50 days to deliberately walk the path from Easter to Pentecost? Trevor Hudson writes, "If we are willing to take the time to pause, the season of Eastertide can become a time punctuated with precious moments of encounter with our risen Lord." Pauses for Pentecost offers 50 brief meditations that guide you to reflect on a biblical word and scripture passage, then do a simple daily practice. The daily practices do not take much time, and they are designed to let the new life of the Resurrection and the power of Pentecost flow into your life. Discover how to open your heart and mind more fully to the joy of Christ, the presence of God, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
Having read Hudson’s other ‘Pause’ books I was excited to get my hands on his Pentecost one. 50 days, a word for each day, a reflection on that word using a relevant Pentecostal scripture verse, and an invitation to act upon the reflection to allow the word to stick.
Like all Hudson’s books, this one is written in his gentle manner that invites the reader to step closer to Jesus and Holy Spirit during this important and often, underestimated church season.
As always, I find Trevor Hudson's writing insightful and inspirational. I have not seen very many short-term devotionals for the period between Easter and Pentecost so that alone makes it a worthwhile find. I will definitely be recommending this book to friends and co-workers. My favorite quote: "Easter people always seek to stand in the Wind."
Our Sunday school class has read several of Trevor Hudson's 'Pauses for' books. We enjoy the word studies and his application of the scriptures. We have enjoyed the studies. We actually did his book, Pauses of Lent two different years.
This is my second book by Trevor Hudson. Each day I looked forward to starting my day with a new word and a daily practice. I want more. Thank you for opening my heart and mind to this incredible gift of the Holy Spirit.
This was a very good devotional. I liked the study oriented around a word of the day. With a very practical activity for that day. I plan to continue the series for Advent this winter!
