What if I do everything wrong?
When another girl offers to teach me the ropes, how can I say no?
That one night changes my world and gives me the courage to go after the only girl I really want.

Ashley

"Finally, a realistic lesbian protagonist! The dynamic between Delilah and Ashley was super intense. Their first kiss was insanely hot and I am very much impressed with Melissa Foster's talent for sex scenes. Lesbian sex scenes always end up TOO soft and feathery. It's not realistic. This author turned up the heat." Literary Meanderings review

Characters from the Love in Bloom series will appear in the Harborside Nights books.

Anyone unfamiliar with the idea of a reviewer going into a book desperate to love it has clearly never met Me When Faced with f/f NA. And I definitely found enough to like in the sex scenes that ordinarily I would've given this book at least one more star. But on Goodreads, 2 stars means "it was OK," and the biphobia in this book is not fucking OK.

First off, you have Janessa, the woman who "teaches" Delilah how to bang a woman so Delilah can bang Ashley. Now, apparently this sort of training requires exactly one hookup, which doesn't really contribute to feeling its necessity for Delilah's confidence, but whatever. This was actually much more uncomfortable to read than I'd anticipated, because although the terms are out in the open, they're both thinking/talking about how Delilah wants to be sleeping with someone else, which just feels sort of gross. But okay, personal taste, I guess. Foster clearly can write hot scenes between women, as evidenced by the ones between Delilah and Ashley, so it's obvious she chose not to between Delilah and Janessa, and that makes sense.

Anyway.

Janessa is bisexual, and has a child, but she and her child's father "aren't meant to be in a monogamous relationship with each other." Delilah would like to know why not. Here is Janessa's response:

"Because I like women," she explains. "Being with a guy isn't enough for me. I enjoy it, and I enjoy him. But it's different being with a guy than a girl, and I'm not ready to give up being with women."

Okay, look - feeling that way? Perfectly valid. Writing it in LGBTQ literature, especially f/f NA, of which exist, like, five? Should take more care with the fact that this inability to settle down is a huge bisexual stereotype that had no need to be there. There's not even the suggestion here that the father's feelings were taken into account, only that Janessa made the call because she wanted to keep hooking up with women. They could've broken up over LITERALLY ANYTHING, or just been friends who went too far one night, but no, of course it was about that the bi chick didn't wanna keep it in her pants. And it cannot even be that she just does not want to settle down, period, but must be specifically that men are not enough for her.

In a vacuum, even that might not have felt like that big a deal, but this thought of Ashley's, from when Delilah and she hook up, from when she is asking Delilah's self-ID because there is only one correct answer for them to move forward, is:

"If she's bisexual, then I will never be enough for her. Been there, done that."

No.

Perpetuating this is not okay.

Perpetuating that bisexual people are inherently untrustworthy - unable to be loyal - is not okay.

See, Ashley was cheated on, by a woman who actually had a boyfriend. Therefore, women who sleep with both men and women cannot be trusted. I understand some people are genuinely unclear on the concept of biphobia, so I'm going to demonstrate with this perfect example right here: Ashley doesn't have an inability to enter a relationship with a woman because one hurt her; she has an inability to enter a relationship with a bisexual woman. That is the class of women she does not trust as a result of what happened to her. Bisexuality is the cause of what happened to her.

And no, perpetuating that is not okay.

I mean, on top of that, there are literally no stakes to this book - Delilah has to come to accept herself as a lesbian after all the self-hate her parents instilled in her, but...they're dead. She has no opponents in this book except her own brain. She has absolutely nothing to gain by giving up Ashley; it's too late to get her parents' approval, and she's not lacking for anyone else's. And yet still the ending is tied up in an incredibly neat bow.

This book made me angry and sad, and neither for the reasons intended.

(audiobook) It was my first FF romance, and I didn’t know what to expect. I ended up with a out/not out couple. Nothing original, but it worked. Especially thanks to a few interesting elements.

First of all, the introduction of another woman who isn’t exactly the Other Woman, but help Delilah in her discovery of her sexuality. Of course, it brings some tension in the main couple once they get together, but she was an interesting character with a unique character goal. That she becomes a supporter of Delilah and Ashley together was a bonus.

The fact that internalized homophobia was the source of the main conflict for this couple was also quite compelling. In the context of Harborside and its community, where there’s a lot of acceptance, having Delilah still be afraid to show her attraction to the same sex created so much tension! And that her internalized phobia came from her parents who are now dead and to whom she can’t talk made Delilah even more interesting.

I wasn’t happy with how bisexuals were associated with cheating, commitment-phobia, and promiscuity. Most of the bisexuals in the story–and there are a few–can’t be satisfied with being only with one person, because they need the other sex. Ridiculous. That is not how bisexuality works. If it had been only one character, I’d be okay with that depiction, because it’s an existing fear. But all of them? Nope.

Misunderstandings between generations were also an interesting idea developped in the story.

Narration was particularly good. I loved how both narrators emulated the other’s voice. Very nicely done. They knew how to bring the sexyness as well as the deeper emotions. A pleasant listen at least.

Quickie

- Series: Harborside nights #2 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #FF romance #small town romance #friends to lovers #secret relationship
- Triggers: homophobia, mention of suicide, deadly car accident, cheating
- Main couple: Delilah Armstrong & Ashley Carver
- Hotness: 3/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + the idea that acceptance was also a generational question was interesting
- – I didn’t like at all the depiction of bisexuality as promiscuity and lack of commitment, with a side of cheating

Over the years, the definition of ‘relationship’ has evolved. With more interracial, same-sex and mixed faith relationships, society is starting to accept that love comes in different varieties. But, for Delilah, growing up in an extremely conservative home with parents who weren’t shy about expressing their distaste over same sex relationships, she was forced to conceal her sexuality. In the past, she had even dated guys to rule out her attraction to them and keep her family and friends from finding out her secret.

Months after her parents’ untimely death, Delilah is still haunted by the beliefs her parents tried instilling on her and her brother, Wyatt. But living in Harborside, where there is a high gay population, makes her wonder why her parents chose there of all places to live and start a business.

As Delilah continues to conceal her sexuality, her feelings for her friend, Ashley, grows. She’s never had a ‘girlfriend’ nor has she had any intimate contact with a girl. Unsure of how to proceed, and even more unsure if Ashley is even into girls, Delilah is more confused than even. But one night, after her feelings for Ashley become so strong that she feels as if she might explode, she gets the courage to tell Ashley how she feels. She was surprised to learn that Ashley reciprocates her feelings.

Being in a first time relationship with a girl, Delilah is still not willing to fully disclose her sexuality. This not only takes a toll on her, but also puts a strain on her new relationship. But will Delilah be able to break the ties that her parents had on her before she loses the love of her life? Or will her insecurities and past be too much for her to release?

It still surprises me that, in this day and age, so many people still have prejudices over nonconventional relationships. It’s hard enough to find love, but who are we to judge in what form it comes in? In Discovering Delilah, Melissa Foster does a great job addressing the (still) sensitive subject of same sex relationships and the stereotypes, prejudices and sometimes even consequences of being in one. But this book doesn’t only focus on that one topic. You will also see the beauty of friendship, the love of family and one’s metamorphosis from confusion and pain to self-discovery and acceptance.

No matter if you are heterosexual, homosexual or asexual, this is a must read for everybody!

This book picks up not long after Catching Cassidy, and I couldn't wait to find out more about Delilah's story. This covers a female/female relationship line, which for some it might not be their cup of tea - for me I read anything and this was beautifully written that it didn't make no never mind to me that they were both women.

It will stir up a lot of emotions as you follow Delilah coming to terms with being gay and always wondering what people will think of her because of it. Her brother loves and supports her no matter what but she is left feeling that her parents hated her as before they died she came out to them and saw (what she thought was) disdain and hurt in their eyes)

Carrying that weight on her shoulder is enough to make anyone feel uneasy about accepting who they truly are.

Ashley is a wonderful character and her and Delilah make a brilliant couple. They go through a lot of up and downs throughout the book and she is so patient with Delilah. Delilah gets to lay her demons to rest regarding how her parents feel when she goes back to empty the house of their things and has at talk with her aunt.

I am loving this whole series and especially how well this book was written, I still find that in this day and age it hard for someone to be with the person they love for fear or being targeted by bigoted people. A brilliant book and I cant to read what happens next in the Harborside Nights series.

The first book in this series really stirred up all kinds of emotions in me, and I couldn't wait to read this next installment. Discovering Delilah was no different. It picks up not long after Catching Cassidy left off. In book one, Delilah and her brother lost their parents the night after graduating college. It was a shocking blow, and Delilah is still trying to cope with its aftermath in book two. Delilah is struggling in a different way than her brother, because just before their death, she confessed to her parents that she is a lesbian. Their reaction was just what she had feared; judgmental and disappointed glares that send her on a guilt trip.

Feeling a hatred for their lack of support, she blames their death in some part on her hard feelings for them. She has made huge amounts of headway into her emotional recovery, partly through her relationship with Ashley. Their relationship is touching to read about; it's romantic, passionate, solid, and very real. Although they struggle with jealousy, and the occasional fear of one not caring as much as the other, the real focus in this book isn't on the petty concerns of so many relationships. They are honest with each other, caring, and it's a touching romance.

There was a great cast of secondary characters. Ashley’s is a real family full of love and support; I loved reading about their interactions. And we get to spend even more time with their group of friends, back from book one, and they're a very realistic group who are easy to relate to.

The final step in Delilah's acceptance of herself was bittersweet, and touching. It wasn't perfect, and I feel for it to have been perfect would been a cop out on the author's part. It was, however, just what she needed to let go. Nothing about this book was a disappointment, and I can't wait to read the stories to follow. ~ George, 5 stars

Growing up is hard. Even harder when your parents pass away the very day you're supposedly an adult—the day of your college graduation. Add in the feeling of guilt over going against your parents beliefs and you have one very confused, guilt-ridden, sad, Delilah Armstrong.

How in the hell is she going to be able admit to the secret she's kept to the friends and family she has left? How does she even know if she's really a lesbian; she's never even kissed a girl. Fear and guilt have held her back at every turn. All Delilah knows right now is she really, really likes Ashley Carver.

I loved this book, Delilah and her struggles to overcome the beliefs of her parents and live her own life—especially since her parents aren't around to discuss what's going through her mind and her heart.

And Ashley, God love her and her patience. She's trying so hard to wait for Delilah, to get there—get “out” and freely express her love and feelings.

Of course, I have to also express my love for Wyatt, Cassidy, Tristan, Brandon, Brooke, Jesse, Brent and Janessa. Their unwavering support, unconditional love, and non-judgmental attitudes go a long, long way in giving both Delilah and Ashley confidence in moving forward. ~ Missy, 5 stars

Started reading this and realized how little interest I have in a book by a non-queer person (that I know of from looking at the author's social media etc) that centers on a queer character's struggle to accept her orientation and come out.

Then I read this and was so happy I DNFed: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I personally cringed in numerous parts of this book. I thought there were parts that were tasteless. The gratuitous "teaching" sex was unnecessary and unwelcome. I was not a fan of this book at all.

Discovering Delilah is the second book in the Harbourside Night series and my second book of this author. I had been seeing this book around the interweb and decided to take a chance on this book. As this author is one that I’m somewhat familiar with though I hadn’t read any until this week.

This book though it is standalone , carries on from events that were told in Chasing Cassidy. Delilah and Ashley were both introduced with the rest of the Harbourside gang and it was obvious that there was a story to be told for both them.

Delilah has faced a lot in last few months. The death of her parents and the fact that she trying to figure out the best way to come out and comes to terms what she has discovered. She is hurting deeply over those two issues as she worries what others will think after what her parents sprouted and taught their children. It doesn’t matter her brother Wyatt has been there for her and supported her. It time to cut the apron strings and discover herself.

Ashleigh on the other hand, is wondering whether Delilah is interested or not. She out and proud but is dealing with a past with girlfriends who were not out .She sick of sneaking around with a girl and wants to be with Delilah but she got a lot on her plate. They maybe close but will they figure out ?

Discovering Delilah is wonderful coming out NA romance that has its highs and its lows. I love this cast of characters that have become a rag tag family for each other and come together to help each other out. I love the concept of this series and the fact that they accept one and all. I must admit though I have steered away from the F/F genre because I couldn’t find a story to engage my interests. I enjoyed this coming out story and Delilah finding her way back. However it isn’t perfect as someone who has read numerous of books dealing with relationships of all kinds . This book does hit the right notes overall though it had it issues. There was some usage of words and they way things were conveyed by the author when it came to bisexual and that did disappoint me considering that I have read and heard of totally the opposite situation.

Otherwise I enjoyed the journey of discover that Delilah took us on and the girls finding their way to each other.

Book two in the Harborside Nights series.

Delilah grew up in a conservative household. One that she felt would never be accepting of her acceptance of being gay. She's known for a while that she liked girls more than boys and so she put up the front, with a fake boyfriend and never dating much less kissing any girls. The only people that know that she is gay is her twin brother and his girlfriend Cassidy.

Finally ready to tell her parents, she lets them know on graduation night, leaving her parent speechless and leaving Delilah angry that her parents are so unacceptable to her life. Then the unthinkable happens - her parents dying in a car accident on their way home from graduation and Delilah never getting to talk to them or confront them about how their silence made her feel.

Even with her parents gone, Delilah has a hard time coming out of the closet. The only thing is she has feelings for her friend Ashley and she has no way of knowing how to even approach the relationship and asking for more.

Delilah's story is an amazing journey of self discovery, forgiveness and learning to live for the first time.

I loved Delilah and Ashley and we get to see the whole gang in the Harborside series too. Love is love and finding that love can send you over the moon, but first and foremost you need to learn to love yourself and be happy with who you are. And this journey takes you through a rollercoaster of twists and turns. I can't wait for more from Harborside Nights!

I'm really struggling with my feeling toward the Harborside Nights series. I am so glad Melissa Foster is touching on LGBT topics, I feel it's something too many authors shy away from. So that's not my problem with this series. I believe it's the overall tone of the stories. They are wonderful stories but they really delve into death, grief, acceptance, guilt, etc. I'm not adverse to these things at all. I'm just having a hard time flipping that switch in my brain that assumes a Melissa Foster book is going to be 75% warm fuzzies and 25% angst instead of the other way around.

Please do not pass this book up because of the seriousness. It is a beautiful story of love and self-discovery and acceptance that should be read. Just know there isn't a lot of joking or playfulness in the book. But it's chock-full of love!

One thing that would have improved this story, in my eyes, that has nothing to do with the overall tone...the friends. We were introduced to a whole cast of characters in the first book and we barely see them in this book. I'm sure it's because Delilah had to go through her emotions on her own and learn to be confident on her own, but I still missed them.

I was asked to give an honest review from New York Times & USA Today. I would like to thank them for giving me chance to review a Melissa Foster book, Discovering Delilah.
This book was a different kind of read for me. It took on a lot of things that back in the day generations would not liked being talked about or even see it out in public. But today in our generation now these days are more open to new things. (Different Bubbles - Melissa Foster)
Melissa has done it again! This book had a lot of ups and downs and twist and turns. Melissa managed to give all the characters in this book a life of their own. Especially Delilah and Ashley on their emotional rollercoaster ride of finding themselves and overcoming all the odds. With help from their friends and family along the way.

Discovering Delilah by Melissa Foster is the 2nd book in her wonderful Harborside Nights series. In the first book in this series, Chasing Cassidy, I fell in love with all the characters that Melissa introduced to us, including Delilah, the heroine of this book. I could not wait for this book, even knowing that this would be my first F/F read. Melissa is one of the best in giving us romances that are filled with love. Discovering Delilah was so well done by Melissa Foster, as she has created a wonderful group of diversified characters that will make up this series, heartwarming romance, as well as fabulous family and friendships to surround them with.

Delilah Armstrong is the twin sister of the first book’s hero, Wyatt. We knew right away that Delilah was gay, though she had not faced coming out. On the day of her graduation, she confessed to her parents her sexuality preference, and felt their disapproval. A short time later, her parents were killed in a car crash, leaving Delilah with a double tragedy..losing her parents and the guilt of telling them the truth.

Ashley Carver met Delilah when they came to Rockwell Island to stay for the summer and run the bar their parents left them. Ashley became a good friend to Delilah, when she needed a friend. In Dee’s (Delilah) case, her private feelings for Ashley, were stronger than that, but she was afraid to approach Ashley, since she did not know if she was straight or not. While in therapy, Dee meets another girl, Jessa, who becomes a friend that sees through the anguish she is going through. It is Jessa, who is bisexual, that will help Dee face the truth and teach her how to be what she wants to be.

Without going into detail, what follows is a beautiful beginning of romance between two people who love each other. Ashley is the confident and strong one in their new relationship, as Dee fears letting anyone see her being with a “girl”. So they keep it private, with Ashley trying to be patient, as Delilah must deal with her insecurities, and anger toward her parents, which caused her to hide her true feelings all her teenage years. This was so well written, with a wonderful supporting cast of characters, and I loved Delilah and Ashley.

Discovering Delilah is a story of two people falling in love, but also about fears and anguish that they face, and must overcome; but the key is the love of family and friendship that surrounds them. Melissa Foster does a wonderful job of giving us a beautiful story that focuses on a subject that is still sensitive, but uses her trademark of wonderful romances filled with love. Discovering Delilah was a terrific read, and I recommend you to read this book.

***I received an ARC from Beck Valley Books in exchange for my honest opinion.***

My review for this book was due on July 9th, and I've gotta say, I've had the book done & review scheduled since MAY 29. After reading Catching Cassidy and reviewing it, I couldn't wait to read Delilah's story & learn more about her! I kind of wondered how well I would like the book because it is a female/female love story, and I've never read one before. I've gotta say though, this book was amazing! If anyone can pull off a f/f love story, it's most definitely Melissa Foster! This story isn't overly sexual, not overly descriptive, etc. If you're worried about reading THAT, you don't have to worry about it!

Delilah had a hard time "coming out" and felt guilty because her parents died right after she told them she was a lesbian, and all she could remember was the look that they gave her after she told them. For as long as she could remember, they had drilled it into her head that same-sex relationships were wrong. She felt that everyone else would look down on her when she officially came out. Her brother fully supported the fact that she is gay, which I think is completely awesome. I mean, my kids are 8, 6 & 2, but I fully think that if any of them came out and told me that they liked the same sex, I would be fine with it. It's been completely normal in the time that I've grown up.

It honestly surprises me that still, in this day and age, so many people have issues with people in same-sex relationships. I have never had any issues with anyone in a same-sex relationship! Love is Love and you can't help who you fall in love with, or at least, that is my thought on the matter.

This book picks up not too long after Catching Cassidy left off, so you don't have to go back & try to remember certain things that are mentioned, as it's pretty fresh in your mind!

Delilah had a long talk with her aunt one day while packing up her parents house, and she realized that it's not just that her dad thought being gay was wrong, it was just that was how it was perceived in his generation.

I wanted to hug Delilah. I really did. After she first came together with Ashley, she didn't want to come out to EVERYONE just yet. She was still worried about that. How do you carry on with this secret going through you? Being out in public with Ashley, she just knew everyone was giving them disapproving looks. (She was wrong)

Melissa Foster has written this book beautifully, and as usual, I'm super stoked for the next installment in this series :D

I won this book in a Women and Words giveaway. This author is writing a series of books on friends in a beach town and this is book two in the series.
I've never been a fan of first person novels so that was strike one. The story is told in first person by Delilah and Ashley.
Delilah has fallen head over heels for Ashley. Her parents, recently killed in a car accident were conservative and made it clear to Delilah that her interest in girls was an abomination.
Ashley, comfortable in her sexuality and a confirmed lesbian is interested in Delilah. What she doesn't want is another girlfriend who is closeted and will not publicly acknowledge their relationship.

I started this book with an open mind. I did not read the first in the series but assume it involved Delilah's brother Wyatt and his girlfriend Cassidy. Strike two for me was the volume of of characters, some hetero, some bi, some gay, some related who keep popping up on page. I know the author wants to interest the reader in her entire series but I found it distracting and annoying. If I want previews I will go to my local movie theatre. Please don't advertise your future books while I am trying to generate interest in the book I am actually reading.

The sex scenes in the first half of the book are incredibly hot. The Toaster Oven Award should be given to the scene where lesbian virgin Delilah learns how wonderful kissing and making love to a woman can be. This author could convert many a hetero woman to the joys of same sex lovemaking. Or would that be same sex sex?

Strike three for this reader was the constant insecurity shown by Delilah. I love Ashley...but my parents said it was wrong. I want to have sex with Ashley. Wait. My very conservative parents would not approve. But I love her. Sorry. My very conservative parents who died in a horrible car crash after I revealed to them that I like girls would be horrified.

I almost persevered because honestly, the sex scenes are very, very hot but I just got tired of the constant hand wringing on Delilah's part. Add in the many references to other friends who I am sure will show up in other novels and I decided it was not worth my time to finish this novel.

ARC REVIEW

I really, really wanted to read this one. It has been a long time since I've read a good F/F. I think Melissa Foster did excellent with it. Delilah has a lot of shit to deal with in this book. Delilah is discovering who she is. She is dealing with the death of her parents, suddenly becoming a business owner, and most confusing of all dealing with her feelings for her new found friend Ashley. Ashley has vowed never to be in another relationship where she is treated like the dirty little secret. Ashley meets Delilah through a mutual friend and instantly feels a pull toward the beautiful woman. Ashley and Delilah form a quick friendship and although they both are really attracted to one another they don't know if the other is straight or not.
Delilah has known she was gay since she was a teenager but her parents were very conservative and vocal about their feelings on same sex relationships. Delilah was so scared of what her parents thought that she never acted on her feelings. Right before the graduation ceremony Delilah finally told them the truth and what she saw in her father's eyes broke her heart and before she could talk to them privately again they were dead. Delilah and Ashley finally come together; but Delilah's still worries, her parents unintentionally made her feel bad about who she is and while she really wants to be with Ashley she still needs to move baby steps. Delilah has to work through a lot of grief and guilt and insecurity but Ashley is willing to wait for her and be there for her.
I love Delilah, I completely empathize with her. Delilah needed the confidence boost and she needed to feel secure in her feelings and her sexuality, how can she really know she's gay if she's never actually been with another woman, I understand that and I love that Janessa was there to help her. I also understand Ashley's feelings about that. I liked this one more than Catching Cassidy, it really is a great story.

This was just ... wow. Even now, days after I've read it, I find myself misty-eyed just thinking about Delilah's journey. This book was so much more than a romance story of finding a HEA...it was a journey of self discovery, acceptance, self love and above all, friendship!

I was lucky enough to have been able to read Delilah's story right after finishing book 1 in the series, Catching Cassidy. I met Delilah long before "her book" came along and I felt deeply for her even then. Delilah's entire life has been driven and ruled by guilt and fear. Fear of letting the world know who she really is and guilt for being who she is. She stirred something deep in me and it will be a long time before she is forgotten, if ever.

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Melissa Foster, but fan or no fan, as a responsible reviewer I would let you know if a story wasn't right. This story was not only right, it was flawless in its delivery. However, the romance of the story did take a back seat to the self discovery of the story. I think it's important for future readers to understand that there are really two journeys going on in this book and when that happens, one is always going to take a backseat. But it was the right way, in my opinion. The road to HEA for Delilah and Ashley could never have happened if the road of self-discovery and acceptance didn't happen with Delilah.

One last thing I want to point out is the diversity of this series and how great I think that is. Melissa Foster chose to write all kinds of relationships in this series and I think it showcases her talent as a writer. She can take any subject in any form and do it right. SO HUGE props to her! :)

Discovering Delilah is my first Melissa Foster novel and it did not disappoint. This book features a group of friends living in Harbourside and each novel is a standalone focusing on different characters. Discovering Delilah focuses on a young woman who is struggling finding her place in society after the death of her parents.

For Delilah the death of her parents is the catalyst for events that follow. As she reminisces on her childhood and her relationships with her parents, she realises she has been living a life filled with secrets and shame. Meeting Ashley has not only brought this to the surface but has forced Delilah to acknowledge that it is a time for a change.

As Delilah admits to herself, Ashley and the world that she is a lesbian, we witness a journey filled with pain, grief and doubt. As Delilah deals with her feelings towards Ashley she must decide as to whether or not she will let her parents views on same sex relationships jeopardise the best thing that has ever happened to her.

Melissa Foster captures the heartache and uncertainty that is faced by the LGBTQ community. Her writing brings to life the reality of being a minority and what it feels like to deny your true self for so long. Foster successfully keeps a steady pace in Discovering Delilah and puts together secondary characters that support and encourage the needs of the Main Characters.

As the issue of “coming out” is very much prevalent, I recommend Discovering Delilah whilst trying to find solace and understanding. To know you’re not alone and be guided into a direction of light and positiveness. Discovering Delilah unfolds in the most cathartic way and readers will be curious and hopeful for a happy ending.

Discovering Delilah is book 2 in the Harborside Nights series for New Adults and beyond. Delilah and her twin brother are still reeling from the sudden death of their parents in a tragic road accident on the night after their graduation. They've had to grow up fast, take responsibilities and trying to work through their grief.

Unable to stay at the Connecticut family home because it was too full of memories, they moved to the family seaside holiday home at Harborside. Here they take on running the Taproom a bar business owned by their parents. They are surrounded by their friends who support them with all they need to deal with.

Delilah struggles to be strong, she is laden with guilt over her parents death. She had just revealed her sexual orientation was towards girls and their shock and disapproval made her wish they were dead, then just days later they were killed in a drunk driving accident and Delilah blames herself.

In a generation of friends who accept gays, lesbians and bi-sexual relationships Delilah slowly takes baby steps towards her future. Grief counselling offers alternative ideas and a friend, Janessa, gives Delilah the confidence to approach new best friend Ashley with her feelings.

The book is written in alternative points of view from Delilah and then Ashley. Melissa writes with great sensitivity and thought as the book deeply explores same sex relationships and young people "coming out", as well as showing the changing world of acceptance to many differing sexual relations. The romance is the main focus of the book and the stories of other characters will continue in the next books in the series.

received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads

This is the second in the series, and another great read. It would not be essential to read the first book, but it is definitely an advantage (and a good story anyway!)

Ms Foster presents a compelling story about a young woman who has been struggling for a long time with her knowledge that her parents would not approve of her being gay. Now that they are dead, she cannot shake the guilt, yet so wants to move forward and be whole in every way. Thanks to the support of her friends and the interest of one particular woman, she embarks upon a difficult but eventually fulfilling journey of release. I thought that it was really well done, and the passion as well as the romance played out brilliantly. I cannot wait to read future stories and watch this relationship develop as it surely will. Lots of thoughtful moments, plenty of heat and a wonderful community of friends.

I recommend that you give Harborside Nights a place on your Kindle - and quite possibly your heart.

I was so excited to read Delilah's story, I fell in love with her in Catching Cassidy.
It's hard enough for people to come out and admit they are gay, thanks to society... But when your parents drill it into you that it is wrong, how can you tell them the truth??
I wanted to hug Delilah and tell her everything will be ok..
How do you carry on living with this secret and pretend to be someone that you're not??
After a tragic accident that took her parents lives... Delilah can't get the look of disgust on her parents faces out of her head, after telling them she's gay...
This is her journey to find herself, after so long keeping the real her hidden.. Delilah's twin brother and close friends are there to support her.. But this is one thing she needs to work out for herself..
Melissa has written this beautifully, as I knew she would..My heart broke for Delilah... I felt everything she went through, this is such an emotional journey...
I will warn you to stock up on tissues, this is a definite ugly cry... But it's worth every tear..
Melissa has written this beautifully, as I knew she would...

Loved this book!!!! I was so excited to read Delilah's story. I fell in love with her in Catching Cassidy and couldn’t wait to see what was in store for her. In today’s society it isn’t as hard to “come out” and say you are gay but in this book when your parents drill it into your head that it is wrong, how would it be possible to tell others that you’re a lesbian/gay? Her family and close friends accept her. But how do you continue to live with this secret and then fall in love but are too scared to let the world know. You are too scared or don’t want to see the reaction of the people around you. After her parents accident/death Delilah tries hard to come to grips before it destroys her and her new relationship with Ashley. This is her journey to find herself, after so long keeping the real her hidden. My heart broke for Delilah. This is such an emotional rollercoaster ride but I enjoyed every minute of it!! I was given this ARC by the author for an honest review!!!
Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!!
Happy reading!!

This is a good story of two young adults coming together. Delilah is in the closest and getting over the death of her parents while Ashley is out and is getting over a bad relationship. While they want to be together they both have baggage that causes problems.

The story explores her parents apparent disapproval of the fact that she is a lesbian and why they might have thought that way. I thought this was well done and I like the way the story dealt with Delilah's guilt over her parents death and her sexualality.

Discovering Delilah is a lovely f/f romance. I really felt the connection between Ash and Dee as both friends and lovers. The scenes where they come together physically melted more than my heart. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

ARC given in exchange for an honest review

I really enjoyed reading this book. This is book 2 in the series - I would say if you haven't read book one then you may want to read that first just so you can understand more of what happened and where the characters come from. This book has many emotions in it and if you are not a fan of FF reads then this book isn't for you. Overall the book is great and so worth the read.

Delilah has a long way to go, after receiving tragic news she must find her way. She has support from her brother, Ashley and other friends. She has a big secret and she hasn't told anyone. She must learn how to let go and live. She also wants someone but doesn't know if the person feels the same way. Such a heartfelt story and you watch a love form between two people.

Great job to the author, I really liked this book and looking forward to more in the series.

This book was truly a romantic, heart-warming, and powerful journey to go on. I found Delilah to be a fascinating character to read about. The way she learns about her parents and why they acted the way they did was an excellent twist. I like how, with the support of her friends and family that she was able to admit her feelings for Ashley without being scared. Delilah became a strong, mature young lady who was capable of taking care of herself. This book definitely lives up to its title and I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of romance. This book, above all else, is about being happy with the one you love.

discovery, growth, understanding, respect,

Overall 4 out of 5 stars
Performance 5 out of 5 stars
Story 4 out of 5 stars

First I have to give much respect and hi fives to the narrator duo of Andi Arndt and Ava Erickson. These ladies brought two very different yet similar young ladies to life. Their grief/loss, sorrow, confusion, connection, discovery, understanding and more together to paint the fab picture that Melissa Foster put to words.

New Adult Romance LGBTQ with one woman that was coming into her time of discovery and loss. Delilah has graduated college and lost her parent all the same day. She loved her parents and do not want to dishonor them but she wants to be true to herself. With the way that her parents took the news of her coming out, Delilah is confused and a bit hurt. These things were a lot for her to deal with at this time in her life. Delilah and Ashley met at the seaside vacation spot of Harborside. They hit it off right from the start. Painful circumstances brought Delilah there, but running from grief and more she finds that she is not staying in her childhood vacation home. She finds refuge with a family friend. no
Self discovery and self-awareness was a challenge but also a release for her. She does lots to grown up and grow beyond the expectations of other.

Ashley has her own reasoning for keeping her friendship with Delilah and not taking it any further. She's been in the place where her partner was not out and not sure. Ashley knew who she was and what she was striving for in life. Delilah was still playing catch-up. These two young women were working to take ownership of their lives just in different ways.

This was a sweet romance that required new skills and patience from both parties. NA-LGBTQ+ was done with the complication of accepting ones self and then being able to open to ones friends and family. This was full of what I have come to expect from Melissa Foster. Family, friends, and lots of love.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read Entertaining Inspirational Romantic Realistic Wonderful characters

This was a nice lesbian romance. I read the first book over a month ago and I’ll start the next, 3rd, book right away.

I’m not sure if I’d recommend this book to anyone unless they specifically want the “not out” “struggling in the closet” type. It’s not for me. I didn’t take away a star for this because I read the summary, and knew from the first book Delilah wasn’t “out” yet. I chose to continue the series.

Other than that, the book was great. The chapters with Ashley’s family almost bought me to tears. If I wasn’t listening at work, I definitely would have shed a few happy tears. I ABSOLUTELY love when an author can write a happy, loving family and it feels real. It was such a short part but Ashley’s family felt so real and loving. I dang near felt a hug from Ashley’s mom myself lol. I wish they were in the book more.

**This review will contain some spoilers!**

Delilah Armstrong recently lost her parents—on the evening of her college graduation, to be exact. For Delilah, this is more confusing and painful than it would be to the average person. Delilah is a lesbian and came out to her conservative parents right before they died in the car accident following her graduation.

Delilah struggles with her desire to come out to her closest friends—including Ashley, a girl she's been crushing on for months—and the look in her parents eyes when she told them about her sexuality. Their disapproval of same-sex relationships is still in Delilah's life even though her parents themselves are gone. She doesn't know whether to hate them for crippling her ability to love freely or to remember how they loved her and mourn them properly.

As Delilah works through her feelings about her parents' death, she also works through her feelings for Ashley. She takes a step forward, but finds it difficult to let go completely. Ashley has already been hurt in the past by a girl who refused to come out and acknowledge their relationship in public.

Will Delilah overcome her fears before she loses her first love for good?

First things first. This book is #2 in series, but I haven't read the first book. I was only interested in this book because of the f/f relationship aspect. I'm gay. I like gay fiction. Simple! Book #3 is centered around a m/m relationship, so I will probably be reading that one as well. Anyway, moving on...

OKAY! The first thing I have to express is how much I appreciate the fact that this book wasn't the typical lesbian-falls-in-love-with-her-BFF story. THANK YOU MELISSA FOSTER! Delilah has a best friend, Cassidy, but she doesn't fall for her and pine over her in secret for months or years. Delilah knows she is gay. She doesn't need to come to the realization of that due to her feelings for Cassidy, because they don't exist. Instead, we have an outside party—Ashley—gain her romantic interests instead. Ashley is a new friend in Delilah's life. She came into the picture in book one (Catching Cassidy) and she and Delilah became friends due to a mutual interest in painting and drawing. They've been helping each other with their techniques and such.

Fast forward a bit... Delilah has made the decision to tell Ashley how she feels (Delilah does not know Ashley is a lesbian), but she fears her inexperience will make her unappealing or embarrass her. So, when Delilah is offered a chance to "use" someone for sexual experience, she takes it. A woman from her grief therapy group offers herself up for nothing more than an evening of fun meant to teach and give her some experience. This part of the book was sort of unbelievable to me, but it was a small enough part that it didn't bug me for long. I just doubt a woman as ashamed of her own sexuality as Delilah is would take up a near-stranger on an educational one night stand. Nah... probably not.

The dynamic between Delilah and Ashley was super intense. Their first kiss was insanely hot and I am very much impressed with Melissa Foster's talent for sex scenes. Lesbian sex scenes always end up TOO soft and feathery. It's not realistic. This author turned up the heat. It wasn't too dainty and prissy. There was a lot of passion and realism in the sex scenes and I loved it. I also just loved the moments where they had deep conversations or acted playfully. It was sweet and really beautiful. The entire relationship and act of falling for each other was great.

Even as Delilah and Ashley get their relationship going, Delilah still struggles with her fear and shame thanks to her parents disapproval. This also causes Delilah to be very insecure. As she and Ashley try to build their relationship, Delilah constantly pulls back and picks fights over small things. I think this part was also very real and believable. I feel that anyone in Delilah's position would be afraid to really let go and give themselves over.

In the end, Delilah stumbles upon that moment of acceptance and it's with the help of some information about why her parents "hated" gays. I was a bit disappointed that this "news" wasn't really news at all. It was simply that her dad was raised by homophobic parents. Nothing big, just that. I guess it is realistic, but I was hoping for something more excusable than just the fact that her father was conditioned or brainwashed.

Overall, Discovering Delilah was a very enjoyable read. It was told in the alternating POVs of both Delilah and Ashley. I was fully able to appreciate the LGBT theme of this book from an experienced perspective. I think the author portrayed Delilah in a realistic and relatable way. She was a lovable character despite her flaws. Ashley was a supportive character and I really enjoyed getting to know some of the other crew in this series. I hadn't really planned on reading the rest of the series, but now I think I will! I definitely recommend this one if you enjoy a good romance with lesbian main characters or just a great new adult novel!

DISCOVERING DELILAH is an New Adult Lesbian Romance (#LGBT)

After the death of her parents on the day of her college graduation, Delilah Armstrong thought she could finally follow her heart and come out to her closest friends, but the guilt of going against her parents’ beliefs haunts her. The feelings she has for her best friend, Ashley, are stronger than anything she’s felt before, but Delilah has never even kissed a girl, and fear stops her at every turn.

Ashley Carver promised herself that she would never again date another girl who wasn’t out, but that was before she met intoxicatingly sweet and sexy Delilah.

When another girl offers to teach Delilah the ropes, it changes Delilah’s whole world and gives her the courage to go after the only girl she really wants. But coming out isn’t as easy as Delilah imagined, and moving past her parents’ death and the feelings of guilt she is left with is even harder. The intense passion between Ashley and Delilah is too strong to deny, but coming together means risking everything.

Discovering Delilah is an edgy, evocative, romantic story of friendship, family, and the courage to love.

Review:
This is the second book of the Harborside Nights Series. The series takes place in a small seaside community of Harborside. It follows the lives of friends who are more like family. Each book can be read as a stand alone novel. In book one we got to know the dynamics of these friends, but the main interest is on Wyatt Armstrong and Cassidy Lowell. Book two is about Wyatt’s twin sister Delilah and Ashley. Plot- Delilah is falling hard for Ashley, but she doesn’t know if Ashley is into women. Since Delilah isn’t positive that she is into women herself, it makes for a very awkward situation. One of her friends from her group therapy has offered to help her explore her sexual feelings and Delilah agrees to let Janessa teach her. Ashley has been attracted to Delilah since they first met, but she can’t tell if Delilah is into women and she doesn’t want to scare her away. Ashley will settle for just being friends for now. When the ladies finally do come together, Delilah’s guilt of her parents disapproval keeps her from being open about the relationship she has with Ashley. The chemistry between Ashley and Delilah is sweet, gentle, and loving. This was the first f/f book that I have read, and I enjoyed reading how the relationship progressed. The pacing was steady giving the reader the opportunity to absorb the details of the story. This book has a pretty powerful ending with a happy twist. The characters in this book are so diverse and enjoyable. I can not wait to read the rest of the series. Future books in this series are:

Discovering Delilah (F/F)
Tempting Tristan (M/M)
