The Prophet of the Desert was recommended as an inspiring book on the life of the Prophet Mohamed. While it was a good book, I was not enthralled with it as I was with Karen Armstrong’s Muhammad: A Prophet for Our Time. For me, The Prophet of the Desert was dry and the narrative was slow. That is surprising given hope challenging and eventful Mohamed’s life was in reality. I can’t say that I am disappointed, but I also can’t say that the book met my expectations.
If you know nothing about the Prophet Mohamed, then The Prophet of the Desert is a good place to start. But, if you have read several biographies of Mohamed and a couple of histories of Islam, this book may fall flat.
