This entertaining and informative guide provides both the big picture about work in early childhood classroomsthe theory of teaching young childrenand the details of developing and implementing preschool curriculum.
What a treat it would have been to be a student in Ben's preschool class. I read this book as an adult who is not in the business of young childhood education, but enjoyed reading about how the author used his own interests and passions to develop curriculum for his students. There is a lesson here for everyone though: your capacity to inspire other people about any subject matter is closely linked to how much the subject moves you, and how well you are able to express that passion. Also, if squirrel road-kill in your freezer is too much for you, don't marry someone with Ben Mardell's passion and creativity.
